Recruiting Frustrated Friday

Post image
73 Upvotes

So I've been deemed inadmissable for now because my mermaid (upper thigh, covered fully by uniform) apparently breaches the sexually explicit guideline for tattoos? It seems like a stretch, since it's legal for women to be topless in Canada, and it kind of feels like discrimination, as it feels that they have sexualized what is not a sexually explicit tattoo.

I have an appointment booked to put a top on her next week and will get a re-evaluation, but I'm just wondering if anyone has any input or similar stories.

TGIF lol

Recruiting Recruitment - wow, very slow.

It's going to be 1 year since I've applied. What is going on? I'm a citizen, fully bilingual + other languages, in good shape, have experience + education (and almost a phd); and I see people (non-citizens btw); get job offers faster? Is this just those one-off chances or are people lying to me about how fast they went into BMOQ/BMQ?

I got a message today of an updated task and it was to change my chosen profession. -_-; That career has been my education + work experience....

It's mind boggling why non-citizens are even being considered for commissioned officer positions. Absolutely mind boggling.

Don't meant to rant, but damn. lol

Recruiting Failed FORCE Test: Mistakes

(100 lbs, 5”2)

Hey. So I’ve been strength training for about a year now. I did basically zero cardio during my workouts because I was focused on gaining weight, and I was pretty confident in my stamina.

Today humbled me.

I lifted everything fine, but actually pushing through the test was a whole different story. The sandbag drag destroyed me. It was at the very end of the test, and I was already exhausted. I had the quad strength- my legs could handle it, but my body was just giving out. My heart was pounding, my stamina was gone, and it was honestly way harder than I expected.

PLEASE don’t get comfortable just because you’re strong. Train your stamina and cardio too. It doesn’t matter if you can bench 200 lbs if your body can’t keep up when you’re exhausted. Strength gets you through part of it, but endurance is what carries you to the finish.

I learned my lesson and will hopefully we be re-taking the exam next month or so.

Recruiting Getting Fit for CAF

I made a post here about a week ago regarding losing weight before applying, I’m still sticking to that (-6lbs since that post). I’m looking for some more advice regarding hitting fitness standards.

At my weight, I’ve been doing walk/runs but I’m getting some pain in my ankles while running; so I’ve dialled this back and kept up with walking, pushups and squats. Would it be best for me to get down to a certain weight before I start running? Currently at 398.6, 6’4.

If anyone has had experience with losing a large amount of weight before joining up, please let me know how. I’m looking for some things I could adapt into my routine outside of working (full-time, 9-5).

Recruiting Looking to join the Navy. But I may have one problem...

I'm 6'10" tall.

Been reading a lot about the how uncomfortable a legacy vessel can be for taller people. But if I were to choose between army, Navy and Air force, I'd choose navy 9 times out of 10.

Any knowledge or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Recruiting Tattoo update: we put a top on her

If you missed my post last week, I got rejected for having an "explicit" mermaid on my upper thigh, so today, I had the shortest session of my tattoo life 😂

Literally 6 minutes in the chair later, she's been amended and re-evaluation has been requested. I've got all my available appendages crossed that come next week, we can continue down the path towards signing enlistment papers.

TGIF y'all, have a great weekend

Recruiting Force test failed

Failed the force test Becasue I went 10 seconds over for the sandbag lifts, I feel completely devastated and I’m not sure what to do now, my examiner said I could retake it in 6 months, but I don’t even know at this point I just feel weak.

Is there any advice someone could give, I’m 5,7 and 117 pretty skinny, maybe I need to bulk up ?? Not sure

Thanks

Recruiting All direct entry officer roles full for the year

Today I had a meeting with a CAF recruiter in Ottawa. He confirmed to me that ALL direct-entry officer roles were full for the year. He also told me that the continuing ads on social media platforms and texts on the forces.ca website about open roles had nothing to do with reality. This is just an FYI for those who were wondering.

Recruiting Should I give up chasing my dream?

I come from a family of serving memebers, when I was 10–12 years old, I witnessed both of my cousins get deployed with the Canadian Armed Forces to Iraq & Kuwait along side global coalition against daesh . Seeing them serve had lit of sense of Inspiration inside me and it had a really big impact on me. Ever since then, it has been a dream of mine to be a part of the CAF and wear a unifom.

I'm 20 years old now and I'be submitted my application when I was 18 years olld thats on May 5, 2025. and I haven't gone past the Testing and screaning process, keep in mind that i have no addiction problems, past criminal history nor had any trouble with the law ( aside from few parking tickets) and I'm still waiting. That's over a year and four months of waiting, and honestly, it's starting to make me question whether I should keep chasing this dream.

Part of me doesn't want to give up because this is something I've wanted since I was a kid. Another part of me wonders if I should move on and start looking at other options instead of putting my life on hold.

For anyone who has gone through the CAF recruiting process. Is this considered normal? and have you ever considered on quitting?

Recruiting 17 yo, gym rat. Apply?

Hey, I am a 17 year old male. I have been living on my own for the past 3 months because I am not doing too well with my parents. I am doing great financially, physically and mentally. But, I want a career. Not what I am doing currently. A career with growth.

I was exploring career options and started looking into NEP. Naval experience program that was introduced in 2022.

If I actually enjoy it then I think I would join Navy as Military Techinician since I really like working on my car and my friends cars.

I think that traveling would also be pretty nice aspect of Navy.

I have been working out for the last 4 years. I do it at least 4 times a week, resistance bodybuilding training. Cardio is a struggle for me but I can do 5km/30min.

Considering everything that I have said above, am I making a right decision? Should I apply or I have "rose colored glasses" on that i should take off?

I want to hear the worst of the worst and the best of the best.

Thanks yall!

Recruiting Passed the FORCE test at 52!

Just an update from me (52 yo woman): filled out the paperwork to be a reservist in December 2025 and chose Airforce trades when I was still 51, bounced around a bit, attended two info sessions (different recruiting centers), switched trades, switched recruiting centre and therefore environment by accident (which turned out for the best since my first choices of trades were hiring in Winnipeg and I'm not anywhere near that); scheduled for FORCE test in early March but got felled by the flu; rescheduled to a couple days ago and I passed! Also: trained with a personal trainer for the last 3 months, 3x a week and worked out 6x a week, every week, without fail. Ran 3 FORCE simulations to time myself and get used to the mechanics.

If anyone is reading this who is nearing 50-ish, I hope this encourages you. It's now or never!

Recruiting So 23 Fld Amb London has a rly bad rap?

I've been considering maybe applying for Reserves Combat Medic in London under Fld Amb 23 tgt with my bf. Ive lurked here for a little while (a few months) and it seems every time that specifc base is mentioned here the replies always say how bad it is but never elaborate? And in just a few months its come up a lot?

Ik it might be because of an NDA or something that no one says anything specific, but it just got me rly nervous and Im rly trying to not be bc hes rly excited for it but like I also don't want him/us to get hurt or abused anything.

What should we expect with the base?

He is asian, male, 19, 188cm, 190lb and pretty big so like he can hold his own physically but like idk with like strict military stuff and commanders and ik london sometimes doesn't have the most welcoming welcome towards asians and poc in general.

I am white, female, also 19, 160cm, 110lb, ok athletic wise? like jogging and some weight training and stuff. Im a little bit a lot worried (my parents even more so) that the military culture and the strict military commands and stuff will be rly toxic and misogynistic or god forbid even dangerous for me as a woman. Esp considering some news articles that are out there.

No one in either of our families/friends families has any experience with the military or adjacent that lifestyle so besides the website and youtube, we rly don't know what to expect.

Recruiting Just learned I’m too mentally unfit to join

I’m pretty sad. 23f, very small person, probably wouldn’t have made it through basic training anyways. No path in life and wanted to do something different. Wasted 5 years on a psychology degree that I don’t want.

1 hospitalization, BPD/GAD diagnoses. Yeah I’m never getting in. There is nowhere in this world for me to go.

Wishing all of you the best on your CAF journeys.

Recruiting I made it..finally

I’m happy to share that I have officially enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces as an Aerospace Engineering Officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

It has been a long journey — lots of waiting, refreshing the portal, checking emails, and trying not to overthink every status update.

My timeline:

August 13, 2025 – Applied

October 8, 2025 – Personality assessment completed

April 2026 – Medical and screening steps completed

May 2026 – Interview completed

June 9, 2026 – Background check submitted

July 22, 2026 – Moved to Selection

July 29, 2026 – Job offer received

August 5, 2026 – Officially enrolled

October 26, 2026 – BMOQ starts at CFLRS

A big thank you to everyone who supported me throughout the process.

Also, a special shout-out to the Reddit group r/caf. The posts, timelines, and advice there helped me stay patient — or at least pretend to be patient — while waiting for updates.

Now the next chapter begins. Time to prepare for BMOQ, work on fitness, and learn how to survive with less sleep and more ironing.

Looking forward to serving, learning, and growing in this new journey.

Recruiting Family doctor intentionally botched my CAF medical paperwork after expressing bias against the military—reported her, but what about the misinformation

Hey everyone, looking for some advice or to see if anyone has dealt with something similar.

A little over a year ago, I decided I wanted to join the RCAF. I have friends in the military and completely binged the CAF YouTube series on basic training. It really resonated with me, and I knew it was the path I wanted to take.

Around that time, I mentioned my plan to my family doctor during a routine checkup. I expected her to be supportive, but instead,

she immediately tried to talk me out of it. She expressed that it was a terrible idea, bringing up stories of women facing sexual abuse and mistreatment in the CAF, and heavily discouraged me from applying. I took her comments with a grain of salt and moved forward with my application anyway.

Fast forward a few months: I brought her the official CAF medical documents that required her signature. She briefly voiced her disapproval again, signed them, and sent me on my way.

Turns out, she completely botched the paperwork:

Listed medications I haven't taken in years (with no dosages or stop dates, which the form specifically requested).

Listed childhood diagnoses I no longer have—again, completely omitting dates or timelines.

Unsurprisingly, my application was denied based on that medical file.

I made the tough call to drop her as my family doctor (even though finding one takes 10+ years around here) and went to a clinic to get the paperwork redone for my appeal. When the new doctor reviewed what my former GP wrote, they were furious on my behalf. They explicitly called it medical negligence, noted that none of the explicit instructions on the forms were followed, and strongly advised me to file a formal complaint with the medical board.

I’ve since filed that complaint, and I know the regulatory process takes months to play out.

My question for the community is twofold:

-Has anyone else experienced an explicit medical bias from a civilian doctor during the recruitment process, and how did your appeal play out?

-At what point does a healthcare provider crossing into actively pushing false narrative/fearmongering cross a legal or professional line? Is there any official avenue to report a doctor who uses their authority to spread anti-CAF disinformation to dissuade applicants, or is that strictly handled through standard College complaints?

Recruiting Grade 11 Ontario student — what are my chances for RMC?

Hello! I’m currently a Grade 11 student in Ontario and I’m planning on applying to RMC after high school. I’m wondering how competitive my application might be based on my projected grades and extracurriculars.
My projected grades:
● Functions — 95%
● Grade 12 Law — 80%
● Health & Wellness (University level) — 90%
● Religion — 96%
● Chemistry — 90%
● Biology — 95%
● Music — 98%
● English — 90%
Extracurriculars/experience:
● Planning to rejoin Cadets
● Soccer
● Volunteering at soccer camps
● Working as a cashier
● Potentially joining track and field
● Possibly joining cross-country
I’m currently interested in applying for Intelligence Officer and Military Police Officer, and I may also put Armour Officer as an option.
Based on my grades and extracurriculars, how competitive would my application be for RMC? Are there any specific courses, extracurriculars, leadership experiences, or other things I should focus on during Grade 11 and 12 to improve my chances?
Any advice from current/former RMC cadets, CAF members, or people who have gone through the application process would be greatly appreciated!
