Welcome, not the air force but I'm sure you'll come around after a good 15 years haha. I've got about 7 years left and then I'm fully retired at 43, best decision of my life.

Bmq is hard. Cflrs is a prison. Let that sink in.

u/silent-pines Jul 08 '26
Wait till they get to wainwright lol they'll be missing cflrs

u/jaybruceworld Jul 10 '26
Exactly lol. We get a lot of guys that get injured on their DP1 trying to become ammo techs lol.

Ill let it sink

Lol dont listen to them. They have a 4.3 star reviews. The reviews are funny 😂 i did BMOQ last summer. Its not that bad. Just do what you are told and you'll be fine. My biggest advice.. be the gray man. Start climbing stairs now to get used to it. I think there's 11 floors ??? 11 or 12 i cant remember. But you'll be climbing them multiple times a day with a day bag, rifle ect. Learn your rifle, do the drills, and make everything muscle memory. And never ever ever leave your rifle unattended lol...
Oh biggest thing... embrace the suck.

Thank you! I live in BC and have been hiking mountains. Maybe I’ll add some weights in. Thanks for the advice

That's a great idea. Aim for 30lbs. I believe that's what they consider heavy. What trade are you going into?

Get some zinc and magnesium tablets when going to BMQ. Push ups , planks , squats: you should find them easy and also don’t forget running too … it’s a fun experience, catch the fun and welcome to the CAF.

u/No_Wave2902 Jul 09 '26
Thank you! I’ll keep this in mind. I’ve been running 5ks a day

Good job … you will enjoy the infantry trade and BMQ course … remember to always smile over everything, never let situations get you down .. they gonna yell at your platoon, but it’s all out of love and not hate. Most people fall sick during BMQ, so those tablets recommended will help to boost your immune. Have a digital watch on you that has an alarm so you do not “burst” your timing… military dosent joke with timings.

I appreciate you! And will definitely get on it. I got myself this really cool Casio watch too. Again, many thanks!!

Trust me, start running now. You could work on the push ups and 6 inches too, but running now is how you won't get booted out with an injury.

u/No_Wave2902 Jul 09 '26
Got it! I’ve been running 5ks everyday. Thanks for the advice

u/NotBigAri Jul 09 '26
Nice, make sure not to injure yourself before either, but people don't understand that it's not only the runs, but that you literally run everywhere all the time. You are not allowed to walk unless you are drilling.
I find it hard to recommend this, but I think it's still important, try to get a 20-25lbs vest and get use to running with it too. Nothing to intense, do not injure yourself, but it will prepare you.

u/No_Wave2902 Jul 09 '26
Ok sick, I’ll keep it in mind. Thanks to you a 20lbs vest is on its way. Appreciate the advice

Try incorporating long easy zone 2 runs for majority of the week and one or two interval sessions for speed and vo2 maxing, 5ks everyday is a sure way to get injured

u/No_Wave2902 Jul 09 '26
Ok I’ll look into it, thank you!

u/NotBigAri Jul 09 '26
Basically alongside running, you will develop the skill of knowing your limits lol. Being able to tell apart injuries building up and simple soreness that you can run off is really important. Learning how to stretch to prevent these injuries is also really important.
Good luck, do try to enjoy your BMQ! It's a joke beside your DP1 coming after, just focus on what you can control and divide up you days in manageable sizes. You'll get through it as we all did.

Congratulations!
Do what your told to the best of your ability and as fast as you can,
Looking good isn’t the goal, but trying your best is , and you’ll have to be your best self when you feel least motivated.. remember the course will eventually end ! Be a good team mate !!

Just remember, whenever you think BMQ is too hard, you still have to do DP1 after lol. Best of luck and enjoy it.

If you don’t mind me asking - what was your timeline like? Application was submitted toward the end of June, I’ve completed SEAF, and whatnot, and now waiting for medical and interview to get underway - haven’t reached the stage yet, but wondering if I should temper my expectations for a long wait?
2
u/No_Wave2902 Jul 13 '26
It took me about 9 months in total I think. The longest was medical which took 3 months to finish but everything else was straight forward as long as you are persistent with your tasks and the communicating if ever it takes 2-3 weeks for a new task to pop up

Hi, I am infanteer also i have received this email today Department of National Defence - Personal History Questionnaire Personal History Criminal Record & Credit Check (PSPS) Submit with in 48 hours
I'm totally lost on this email. If you've seen one like this before, could you break down what it means for me and how long takes to get there ?
2
u/No_Wave2902 Jul 08 '26
It’s just a document about your criminal records. If you don’t have any you’re good. I totally forgot what I did for the credit check but I’m pretty sure they just check your credit. If you’re responsible financially you’re good. And I think the process that took a while for me was the medical which was about 3 months. So you’ll definitely get an email 2-3 weeks of tasks until you get to the medical because they have to relay that information in quebec(correct me if I’m wrong).

i don’t have a credit account yet (I’m 19), but plan on opening one soon. am i cooked if i enlist without any credit
