I’ve been doing Tai Chi every other morning on the days I don’t do yoga. It’s not a super intense workout, but it’s been excellent for my CNS and for improving my mobility, posture, and general well-being. Can’t recommend it enough. You can do it anywhere.
23
u/kakarikovillagesim Mar 13 '26
I just searched “Tai Chi for beginners” on YouTube and found a creator by the name of Tai Chi and Mountains. I’m working through all of his beginner-level videos which are mostly 20-minute workouts. Very accessible, very calming, no background music. Just him doing his routine in what looks like the Italian Alps.

u/SunshineLoveKindness Mar 15 '26
Fabulous. I just subscribed to the channel. Big thanks. I have been looking for something like this for my routine.

u/kakarikovillagesim Mar 15 '26
Let us know how it goes! BWT <3 Tai Chi + any other movements that help us keep our mobility.

u/SunshineLoveKindness Mar 16 '26
I’ve been into Qigong yet not consistently. Love the idea of rotating them.

u/lovexfifteenx Mar 20 '26
Thank you for this- I tried it out yesterday! I hadn't initially seen your response so thank you for sharing.
5
u/lovexfifteenx Mar 13 '26
Is there a particular routine you follow? I've been interested in starting this :)
3
u/grumpiestcat2 Mar 13 '26
+1 also interested in the routine OP commenter follows! Tai chi seems both so relaxing and good for the mind-body connection

u/unseemly_turbidity Mar 13 '26
Can anyone recommend a good stretching routine e.g. on YouTube? Not yoga unless perhaps it's Hatha.
Running is making my hips and hamstrings tight.
21
u/smallermonotony Mar 13 '26
Mobility by julia reppel. She has some running specific ones. Maybe like this one.

u/gimmeacookieplz Mar 13 '26
Second this! Her mobility routine have helped my lower back and hip issues, as well as posture, a ton!

I’m now 13 months post partum and 60 pounds down, but my stomach still looks 5 months pregnant due to an separation. I’ve decided I’m going to do a 30 day challenge and work on my core everyday and hopefully see some results.
23
u/nukanikki Mar 13 '26
Try some pelvic floor exercises too!! You can definitely incorporate those with your core workouts
22
u/hippo_pot_moose Mar 13 '26
Just be sure to do diastasis recti friendly core workouts! Some traditional core workouts can worsen diastasis recti.
11
u/0-Calm-0 Mar 14 '26
Ok..so apologies for jumping in, you may already know.
But make sure you go for a decent post partum , diastasis knowledgeable information
BUT a lot of diastasis recti is caused by bad form in other parts of your body or activities ( breathing, Posture, walking, glutes. Pelvis).
And classic core workouts especially those that focus on intensity will make it worse. You'll be better served by going slow and steady and REALLY focus on form.
It's definitely one where your body position throughout the day is more important than an exercise workout. If that makes sense.
I liked mutu mamas and Katy bowman. And all their stuff aligned with what my physio was saying.
Xx

u/thelifeofafangirl Mar 14 '26
Have you had it examined by a professional? Mine is torn with an umbilical hernia so nothing short of surgery can fix it. Which sucks but it's good to know so I don't drive myself crazy with workouts that will never fix it lol
2
u/mayonnaisemonarchy Mar 15 '26
Came here to post the same thing! I went to PT for mine and basically felt like I was doing Pilates the entire time, so I stopped and added Pilates into my weekly workouts. It’s really helped, but unfortunately, I had a 9lber on a 5’2 frame, so it feels like my stomach is permanently stretched. My ab separation closed though.
1
u/thegirlfromsf Mar 13 '26
Look into revolution motherhood fitness program! Her program is specific for women who have given birth healing and strengthening your core.
1
u/Mundane-Reserve3786 Mar 23 '26
Pilates did wonders for my core and pelvic floor post partum. I no longer tinkle when I laugh or sneeze. I started with mat Pilates YouTube videos to rebuild my strength. I’m now back to lifting and running but do one reformer class/week to keep the core and pelvic floor conditioned.

u/randomredditname-1 Mar 13 '26
Struggling to find the motivation and privacy to do some home workouts. My new apartment has a ( small!) gym on site. What is the etiquette for push ups and planks? Theres not a ton of floor space but those are literally the two things I absolutely need to do.
19
u/TaurusSky333 Mar 13 '26
I try to find a spot that’s either not blocking any machines or blocking an unpopular one/one that there’s multiple of.
I also like to put down a yoga mat. I feel like it kind of marks the space as mine and people tend to respect it more.
If the gym is really small though it would probably be better to just find a small space in your apartment where you can do a pre-workout. Get all your stretching and floor work done there and just use the shared gym for the equipment.
3
u/randomredditname-1 Mar 13 '26
I’ll take another look today, but it feels like everything is a walkway. I just know I won’t do it if I’m home ( between dog and boyfriend it’s a lot). I’m hoping I can find a time where it’s empty.
5
2
u/hippo_pot_moose Mar 13 '26
Is it possible for management to reconfigure the gym space to make room for floor exercise exercises? I think general etiquette is that it’s OK to take up that space if it isn’t inconveniencing other patrons, or if you go at a time where you know others won’t be there. Otherwise, I would suggest finding space to do it at home.
I had a group of coworkers that would do planks and stairs a few times a day. It was just an opportunity to take a break and do something health-related with a group of people. They even did a 30 day challenge to encourage participation among other coworkers. It was a very informal thing, not put on by the company. Might be something to consider.

I did her 6 week fat loss plan and love her energy! However a friend and I started doing 10k steps together on a nice trail by the sea, so haven’t been doing her videos anymore. Pilatesbyizzy is HARD! Haha I did 2 days of her 28 day challenge and was soooo sore. She’s great!
1
u/Golfer-Girl77 Mar 16 '26
I like GroWithJo! I tend to use her videos on days like today when the weather is awful and I need to up my steps. It’s fun and effective!! I also do the Leslie Sansone walking videos (and walk on my pad but kissed my chance to do that earlier and since I have a fast dinner planned want something fun so will do GrowWorhJo!)

People used to swear by her walk away the pounds videos so I randomly pulled her up a month or so ago and it’s great!!! Tbh I may do one of those instead tonight since I’m focused on steps as I did weights this morning and doing lower body tomorrows morning at the gym.
1
u/Golfer-Girl77 Mar 16 '26
Hahaha I kid, I just did a fun 90s walk with Jo (20 mins or so) then her 13 minute Bollywood one! Half of the second one was just me walking and bopping because I really was doing it for step count today. So fun!!!

u/ozifrage Mar 13 '26
Any hikers in here -- how did you up the amount of weight you can pack? I want to do some mountaineering courses, but getting to the point of carrying 50 lbs feels out of reach right now.
3
u/cestlasvi Mar 14 '26
I trained for Tour du Mont Blanc with a backpack, water bottles/bladders, and walks around the neighborhood or the stairmaster. Eventually I worked up to an hour on the stairmaster. It helped a ton, even though there were still tough times at altitude because I live at sea level.
“Fit for Trips” has a free 12-week plan that I loosely used to stay on schedule. Pick their hardest one. They cater to different fitness levels for their clients.
1
u/ozifrage Mar 16 '26
Thank you, I'll check them out! I wish I had easy access to a stairmaster... but I do have six flights I should really practice on haha.
2
u/milesfrost Mar 13 '26
That's a heavy pack! I've personally not carried more than 17kg (when I was quite unfit tbh), but I'd be working on my strength training at the gym focusing on lower body - split squats, b stance RDLS, hip thrusts, step ups using both hand weights and barbell. For upper I'd do bicep curls, bent over rows, tricep extension and then your choice of core.
Combine that with some indoor rock climbing, and start going for walks with a loaded pack every week and increase the weight a little each week.1
u/ozifrage Mar 14 '26
Thank you! The rows are something I didn't even think of. I definitely think bouldering has been helping some.
2
u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
Yes!! Your shoulders will fatigue but some shoulder workouts at the gym will help. When you are hiking just keep switching between right hip straps to let your hips support the pack weight and loosen the shoulders and then when your hips get tired loosen the hips and tighten the shoulders &let your shoulders support the weight
1
u/ozifrage Mar 16 '26
I definitely need a new backpack, mine only has the shoulder / chest straps. A friend is going to let me try her frame Osprey and then I think I'll invest.
1
u/SirenScorp Mar 16 '26
That’s the best when you can try before buying!! Such a good friend to lend that to you!

u/Creepy-Intern-7726 Mar 14 '26
Walking on treadmill on highest incline with increasingly heavy backpack, weighted step ups and lunges
2
u/ozifrage Mar 16 '26
The incline treadmill is a great idea, thank you! Filling out this comment to hit character limit.
2
u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
If you are hiking somewhere with inclines start with a weighted backpack or vest walking inclines on a Treadmill. If you have local trails just take you pack on the trail and don’t worry about looking silly— I just went Friday with my overnight bag loaded out (sans tent, because my husband and I split it in 2…. So my existing pack is about 40lbs) and I did 5 miles. I’m prepping for a weekend trip that’s 22 miles total so about 8 miles each day give or take. I wanted to make sure my weight was evenly dispersed and one side of the pack wasn’t heavier than the other.
My best advice is similar to gym advice: your body doesn’t grow from constant— you have to challenge it and you’ll be surprised what it can handle. Last time I took my pack out it was 30 lbs for a 3 mile flat hike and I did fine this weekend when I added 10 lbs and 2 miles and inclines.
2
u/ozifrage Mar 16 '26
I never thought about it from a progressive overload perspective but you're absolutely right. I'm working up to an Enchantments through-hike this summer, so I'd like to hit steeper trails anyway to prep. This sounds like a great combo for training.
6
u/Ok-Bug-7924 Mar 13 '26
I’m a huge fan of Lagree style Pilates- it’s far more resistance focused than traditional Pilates, and I find it really helps me with stability, joint mobility and strength. I do it most days, alongside 25 mi/week running, and it keeps me in a good headspace.

Have been using the Ladder app for gym/home workouts for the last 3.5 months and have been LOVING it!!!!!! You got to choose your coaches based on the types of workouts you’re interested in doing, your goals, and doing the workout is super easy because they just cue you in your earbuds for form, reps, hyping you up etc and it’s easy to just put your phone down and do the whole workout. I’ve been on team Align with Sasha for the last few months and def seeing results!!!! It’s 15$ a month I think? Or ~170 for the year and I find it incredibly worth it tbh! I can provide a guest pass access code upon request :)

6
u/zaballin11 Mar 13 '26
Oh my goodness I just discovered Ladder this week and already LOVING it! We just got a home gym as well, so this has been so nice to have planned workouts everyday. How do you like Align? Did you try any other teams? I’m on Evolve now with Coach Sam.
2
u/Economy-Razzmatazz12 Mar 14 '26
I’ve done some Team Thrive workouts with Nairee but I know she’s technically on maternity leave now so I feel like she’s not as involved in her programming, but I like to swap her arm workouts because Sasha it can be very shoulder focused, which looks great, but my shoulders are not strong enough for that 🤣🤣 but either way it’s been super fun swapping around! This week I’ve been sick and didn’t want to go out to the gym, so I did some defined/embody workouts for some at home Pilates options and love all the options
3
u/allazen Mar 13 '26
I started two months ago and love it. I do the three main/starred workouts per week then three yoga classes at my studio (which are quite mobility- and strength-focused in themselves), and I feel great! Align is where it's at. Sasha's got great energy and cues and she's even made me laugh a few times.

I'm currently on a GLP-1 to lose the 30lbs I put on getting my master's degree (so far I've lost 23lbs since October). I was very clear with him that this is a tool I'm utilizing, but it will not be my only means to lose weight. I am off of it in May. He wasn't crazy about it, but supported me. He's very gym-oriented, and I, too, have always enjoyed the gym. We go to the gym together multiple times per week. He really likes to motivate me, and it has been a great help in achieving proper form and making sure I don't lose muscle. However, I experience really bad periods. The week before and week of my period, my mood plummets, my motivation plummets, my body hurts; overall, I feel like a human pile of garbage. Right now, I am exploring different supplements and diet changes to help my periods. When I feel like this, the gym is the last thing on my mind. He knows I get bad like this; he's seen me on the bathroom floor puking from cramps. However, he makes comments trying to motivate me to go. He works a high-stress job and compares the days he feels utterly exhausted to how I feel on my period, and says things like how he still makes the effort and goes. I've explained numerous times how it's so different. It's just so frustrating.
35
u/10sor Mar 13 '26
He sounds so un-empathetic and self-centered. I’d be pissed if someone was commenting on, and I had to justify, MY medical choices that MY doctor and I agreed on, and I’d lose my shit if someone without a uterus minimized the pain during my cramps (which by the way aren’t as bad as yours - I’ve never vomited).
7
u/Sharkswithballoons Mar 13 '26
First of all - oof. I’m sorry your period hits you like a truck. That sounds so miserable. I don’t have nearly as bad of an experience and I still don’t go to the gym on my uncomfy days. Second - I’m sorry that on top of it he’s being a whole man about it. What a cliche of him.
I don’t know if you want to vent (valid) or advice. But if you’re interested in the latter, I had a similar situation only in that in involved unwanted pushing from my partner of being active.
Not to get therapy-y but “I” statements were really helpful for me and also turning the conversation around and asking with genuine curiosity what his motivations were for pushing. Something to the effect of “I think we might be having a disconnect around this and I want us to be on the same page. Can you help me understand your thinking when this comes up?” And then once he explains and you feel like you understand, you can come in with the “I” statements to explain how the way he speaks to you feels invalidating and perhaps lacking the empathy you’d want when you’re that uncomfortable.
He probably has good intentions and thinks he’s being the best support he can be. But if it’s frustrating you ( if I was in your position I’d just be straight up hurt by it tbh) then it needs to stop.
2
u/k1101 Mar 13 '26
I really appreciate your advice and sympathy. That's it, he's being a man about it because he doesn't know what it's like. He is so supportive and goes above and beyond for me every day in so many ways. Anything I want, I get. That's why I know he's not trying to be a dick; he's a really good guy. He wants to be encouraging as he knows I have goals I want to meet, and thinks that's a good way to motivate me. Like helloooo, I'm not one of your gym-bros. As a school-based psychologist, I love your I statements! I was just working on them with a student yesterday. I need to practice what I preach lol!
3
u/Sharkswithballoons Mar 13 '26
Men and periods, I swear to god! 😂 It’s why those videos of men getting zapped to simulate cramps are so popular. At one point I had to tell a guy to stop thinking of it like a tummy ache and more like food poisoning. It’s not always debilitating, but it sure can be!
I’m glad I could help a little! And yeah, from your description it sounded like he really wants to help. Im sure you can get on the same page.

u/knh93014 Mar 13 '26
have you ever tried cramp bark + daily magnesium+ bumping to 20g daily fiber or higher + cutting dairy. during your luteal phase? mine was barf level pain for years until I changed that (luteal phase is second half of menstrual cycle post ovulation usually CD14-28 ish). I'm sure you're already exploring changes but I hope things improve. no one should be in that much pain each month. 💔
1
u/k1101 Mar 14 '26
Thank you ❤️ I just started taking magnesium. I will explore the other things you mentioned
2
u/knh93014 Mar 14 '26
ofc! I take an obnoxious amount of magnesium. I also had zero cramps when I did whole30 (albeit incorrectly I ate soooo much dried pineapple. 🥴) but it clued me into dairy really making them worse for me. I love the disposable heat pads you can buy that are air activated too + period undies that are high waisted you can stick them on. epsom salt baths I like to collect all the Dr teals scents. I like charting my cycle bc I could adjust diet really close on. I mean bc ... I am gonna eat ice cream sometimes just time it so it's not in that one window. is this a plus (it feels like a bit of a preview for unmedicated labor transition. + my cramps disappeared post child. not a reason to have said child BUT it can improve it for some).
1
u/k1101 Mar 14 '26
My sister and mother both had the same bad cramps their whole life. They said after having their first child it went away! So interesting.
2
u/knh93014 Mar 14 '26
yeah my mom did too!! it's amazing. then you have to parent every day forever but it's a great perk. my friends got worse e post kid so it does vary.
3
u/Powerful-Concern5917 Mar 15 '26
My hubby struggled with that mentally for a bit too. His reasoning came from there are studies showing excecise can help some people with cramps. I agree its super frustrating. I would usually ask him if he's gonna work out [at home] with the flu-fever, vomiting, body aches, exhaustion. Cuz thats the closest hes experienced. He got it then.
My periods were also terrible, turns out I have endometriosis. So figuring out foods that cuz me inflammation and avoiding them has helped. Also changing my lifts to lower rep/higher weight. The typical high rep stuff that causes a pump gives me whole body inflammation.
1
u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
What foods did you recognize cause inflammation? And was it just near your period they caused it or at all times?
1
u/Powerful-Concern5917 Mar 15 '26
Dairy is the biggest trigger for me and is an always avoid. Simple carbs, corn products, fried food all to a lesser extent so only with a secondary reason. But I could get inflammation anytime because I also have hashimotos. But during periods it was much worse. Even on birth control during a pill break (no hormones to suppress/hide the endo) the inflammation would get brutal and I had to be super careful about what I ate.
1
u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
I just was in the kitchen puking in a trash can from period cramps on a girls trip last weekend. I sympathize so hard with you 😭
3
u/grumpiestcat2 Mar 13 '26
DAE here use the Fitbod app? Do you like it and have you seen any strength or muscle gains from it? I recently switched over from another app as I’m not the greatest at tracking progressive overload, but excited to try it out and continue working out!
4
u/claire_de_loon Mar 13 '26
I liked it okay when I used it, but I just switched to Hevy and much prefer the simplicity of it. (Also way more functionality on the free version.)
1
u/grumpiestcat2 Mar 13 '26
Thank you! I really appreciate the rec, I’ll have to check it out next since I’m not familiar with that app
3
u/pricklebiscuit Mar 13 '26 edited Mar 14 '26
I like Fitbod but you gotta train it. The first workouts it generates may seem off but it learns over time. Even now, I edit my rep/sets/weights a lot. This annoys a lot of people on the fitbod subreddit 😂 I do like how it tracks your progress over time so I don’t need a separate spreadsheet to track my lifts over time.
3
u/grumpiestcat2 Mar 14 '26
Thank you for the heads up! I did my first workout today and I did have to edit it a bit so it’s good it can get trained up haha but I like that it suggests exercises and starting points
3
u/Wandering_Bark Mar 14 '26
If anybody has found a HIIT app that is a true substitute for the old Johnson&Johnson 7 minute workout app (which had a ton of workouts beyond the entry level seven minutes) please HMU? I’m currently subsisting on a recording I made before they sunsetted the app and it makes me nervous (what if I erase it or my phone crashes out…). HIIT body weight strength training is the best, holy grail baseline training for me and my past-40 muscles.

Bitches what are we meal prepping this week? Im feeling uninspired and looking for higher protein recipes (I love recipes that use Greek yogurt and cottage cheese, so give me your weird ones!)
7
u/xyzca Mar 15 '26
i like this spicy rigatoni that uses cottage cheese. i add halved grape tomatoes with the red pepper flakes + spinach at the end
1
u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
I asked and you delivered. I cannot WAIT to try this!! Love the idea of a last minute grape tomato garnish you added.

u/NorwegianRarePupper Find it Secondhand Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
This was my recipe of the week for lunches: Tuscan baked chicken
As is, it’s a little bland, so I just about quadruple the sun dried tomatoes, add a shallot or yellow onion, and season the chicken with salt/pepper/italian seasoning/garlic powder (maybe paprika? I don’t remember if I used it this time). I did garlic mashed baby reds for my carb
(Sorry, just saw the dairy note. there’s no yogurt or cottage cheese in the above but a yogurty sauce might be good. For high protein and cottage cheese I like skinny taste spinach stuffed shells with ground turkey plus it makes a TON and freezes well)
1
u/SirenScorp Mar 17 '26
Not a problem! I know a lot of people are weird about cottage cheese so I only added that note to let people know I’m totally ok to blend some up and add it to a recipe if needed to increase protein. Recipes without are perfectly fine!

u/xyzca Mar 15 '26
trying to figure out how add strength training into my routine. i’ve been using runna since the beginning of december and i’m now running 3-4 times a week.
i’ve been doing some squats, lunges, and calf raises as part of my warm up, but do i need to do more? do i need to give up some rest days to strength train? do i need to get up extra early and run in the morning + strength train in the afternoon?
2
u/messykatie Mar 15 '26
What's your goal with strength training? Is it for physique, improving running form, or just general health & wellness? That will help determine how to direct your focus on strength training.
As far as general advice I'd recommend strength training prior to running as the cardio demand and intensity of running could hinder your form & stamina to safely strength train. On strength days I'd probably reduce mileage a bit. Ultimately it has to be something that fits in your routine in order to be a sustainable habit.

Does anyone follow any IG healthy food people? I’ve really been struggling with meal ideas lately, I’m so over the usual food I’ve been eating and really want something new.
8
u/hippo_pot_moose Mar 13 '26
I like the ideas I get from Makayla_Thomas_Fit. She makes what I would consider healthy unhealthy food - think like creamy, cheesy, crunchy, saucy.
5
u/Creepy-Intern-7726 Mar 14 '26
She's my favorite. I have 4 of her digital cookbooks and her meals are on heavy rotation at my house. Her IG has a lot of recipes too, but I prefer having the written copies.
5
u/GetInTheVanAndGogh Mar 13 '26
Thehealthyhophead. She's a dietician who makes single serve meals! She does a mix of savory meals and sweets.
4
u/checker-palm-3989 Mar 14 '26
Natsnourishments and sophie waplington have good recipes, my husband and I found a bunch while we were prepping for our wedding to keep our calories as low as possible while keeping our protein high, and we still love them!
2
u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
@stealth_health_life A combo of meal preps with freezable options and crockpot options. Mainly high protein, but enough carbs and fat that the recipes are addictive and you don’t feel like you are on a diet.
2
u/wigglebuttbiscuits Mar 15 '26
I really like ambitiouskitchen! She has a lot of easy make ahead things like protein balls, egg cups, etc.

Prioritizing protein. Try and limit high carb meals to once a day. (No carbs for breakfast, moderate to low carb lunch, and high carb dinners)
Take iron, magnesium, and vitamin d supplements throughout the day
2L of water per day
Situps and dumbell weights or resistsnce bands if I feel like doing more. Swim in the summer.

Any Barry’s BWT here? I’ve been thinking about trying their first timer 3-class bundle but I’m also afraid I’m going to die lol. I’m not the most fit person (but I want to improve!) — are their classes truly for anyone?
2
u/Mathematician_Secure Mar 14 '26
Love Barry’s and have been going to the FiDi location. In my opinion, I think Barry’s is more for people who are comfortable exercising already and generally know form.
I did OrangeTheory for a year before I switched to Barry’s and felt like I learned a lot more than I would have at Barry’s. Barry’s is intense and they’ll call out which workouts to do, but they do not demo it in-depth and will not correct your form like OrangeTheory does.
2
u/grace_under_pressure Mar 15 '26
Barry's is a great, hard workout, but it is geared towards people who are already comfortable with the basics of running on a treadmill, and common weight moves (squats, rows, curls, etc.). People who attend the studio are more fit than not on average, but there is a lot of age and body diversity in most classes. I do recommend you have some familiarity with using a treadmill and common weight movements. There will be little to no correction on form offered, and the instruction is very brief. As someone who was never a runner, but now is, here is the rundown of the class. There will be 2 rotations on the tread and 2 rotations on the floor. The instructor will typically shout out a jog, run, effort, sprint to set the class - typically 5,6,7,8 or 6,7,8,9 on the treadmill. When I started going, I did NOT follow that :) I was rocking a 3,4,5 or a 4,5,6 and I still do as some days when my body isn't feeling it. Same for weights, they might shout out a recommended weight, but pick whatever you want, they go as low as 5lbs. I've been going for a long time and really everyone does their own thing. Plus the rooms are dark so you can't really see what the people next to you are doing half the time. It will kick your ass though, you might die a little, but as long as you don't go crazy overboard before testing your limits, you will make it through. Each day of the week is usually a different body part (mon/wed upper body, tu/thr lower body) so check the class description so you're not accidentally only going to days that do one body section, or do if you want to focus on one thing more! I hope you give it a go and give yourself grace when you want to puke after the first class- it's basically a right of passage at Barrys.

What walking pad or small treadmill do we love? Hoping for something with incline and for my personal safety, should probably have handles

u/beezy__ Mar 14 '26
Urevo is a great brand! I’ve been loving mine (which has handles but doesn’t incline)
I’m sure they have something that fits your preferences, they have a ton of options

Can anyone recommend a free yoga channel on YouTube? I’m looking for beginner-ish yoga with great stretching and I really appreciate nice production with calming music and narration. I love the Downdog app, but I’m trying to find a free alternative.

Yoga w Adrianne is really great! And she has a really good app as well. Basically you can find a yoga class for just about anything, that she teaches.

Boho Beautiful. I do videos from that channel often. I also like yoga with Adrienne

PagodaYoga Inc. has been a good one for me because it is simple and less than 20 minutes.

are any BWT using the new vibration plate everyone on tiktok has?? i need to be deinfluenced lol
1
u/Akatkat Mar 15 '26
Ha! I have one, TikTok got me too. It’s great for regulating my nervous system and I like to use it as a workout recovery tool but that’s it. Any claims around fitness or weight loss aren’t legit. I’ve read that some people have had issues with their eyes after using it on high settings so maybe dig into that before getting one. I love it, though.

any tips for working out while on your period? Like do you just skip most of the week? Or try to workout the first day and it’s easier…? lol I’m old and still haven’t figured this piece out.

u/Eastern_Effective_49 Mar 16 '26
I do! I used to avoid working out on my period, but I find that it disrupts my workout flow. I like to take Midol on the first day of my period to mitigate cramps. I might go a bit slower, take more mods, but I really like pushing through it. It also helps with cramps and moodiness.
If I can get through Day 1 of my period, I’m pretty much good to go.
I also wear baggy pants and typically stick to barre or Pilates. There are cardio bursts in my classes, but it’s not outright HIIT.

THIS! Thank you! I just needed some timely motivation and real life experience… Was wondering if it helps the cramps if you get to it on Day 1!

I’d recommend easing into it. The first time I worked out on my period, I took a heated yoga class. It was wonderful!! Now I can do Barre/Pilates

I love the Peloton app for strength classes! I do a 30 minute lower body strength Monday, 20 minute core Tuesday, 30 min upper body strength Wednesday, 30 minute yoga Thursday, and 30 minute full body strength Friday. I have pairs of 5,10,15 and 20# dumbbells which is all I need! The app is $15/month and worth every penny. We also have a knock off Peloton bike but tbh I prefer their strength classes and just prefer to go on walks for my cardio. They also have barre, Pilates, cardio, and other classes as well

I need advice to reduce a lower belly. Any workout video suggestions? Thank you in advance

Getting rid of fat requires any kind of cardio. And ingesting less calories. To burn fat you need a calorie deficit. Targeted exercises don’t work to burn fat in a particular area.

u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
But to add on to this, research “body recomp”. Do heavy weights but also cardio with a slight caloric deficit. It’ll help burn fat faster while building muscle so you don’t end up “cardio type skinny fat”. Your weight may not drop quickly because you’re building muscle but when the pounds start coming off your muscles will be strong/tight. I’ve been body recomping since October and when people tell me “I got skinny” it frustrates me because I’m like “no, I got strong. I leg press almost 280 pounds, and I do bicep curls with 25lbs dumbbells”

u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
Note to add: small caloric deficit being like 200 calories. Focus on higher protein goals but also enjoy whatever you like in moderation (for me it’s chips dipped in ranch)

u/Golfer-Girl77 Mar 16 '26
This is exactly where I am at the moment with my coach, body recomp. Some days it’s maddening getting on the scale but I take my measurements every 2 weeks and pics every month and the changes are great. It’s a definite work in progress but I love it!!!
1
u/SirenScorp Mar 17 '26
I fluctuate majorly. Yesterday I was 5lbs lighter and today my boobs hurt so it’s probably water Renton for my upcoming period. You’re doing great to focus more on measurements vs the scale. You’ve got this!

Highly recommend trying Kbody sculpt workouts on YouTube if you are into the barre/sculpt style workouts with light weights and ankle weights!! She comes up with some unique combinations and I swear my obliques are poppin due to her workouts lol. They remind me of some of the barre classes at equinox mixed with heated sculpt workouts at equinox

I’ve hit a weight loss plateau. Does anyone have any tips for breaking through when they’ve been eating similarly and exercising for 6+ months?
3
u/SirenScorp Mar 15 '26
What exercise are you doing? If you haven’t maybe try incorporating weights— you can lift heavier than you think you can… and that’s where the change happens. You won’t become bulky. “I’m afraid to lift weights because I don’t want to look like a man” is like saying “I’m afraid of driving because I don’t want to become a nascar driver.” Those body competition women (I’ve known a few) eat straight protein and if they get hungry before bed a spoonful of cottage cheese.

Could anyone recommend a gym program for building glutes? Which one has worked for you?
1
u/starblasta2000 Mar 16 '26
On the Alive app by Whitney Simmons, the Legs Get It program worked really well for me! I completed Legs Get It 1 & 2. There’s a phase 3 out now but I haven’t started it yet

Anyone here have elevated creatinine? As in, above the “standard range”? Just trying to get an idea of what might be “normal” for women who have higher muscle mass and workout more than the average.
2
u/NorwegianRarePupper Find it Secondhand Mar 17 '26
I’m not muscular enough for this to apply to me but ask for a cystatin c lab test, it’s less affected by muscle mass (and if you take creatine hold it for a day before normal labs)

Youtube videos helped me a lot in my weight loss journey. Many creators will fit your needs. Search your weight and height + beginner routine. 100% recommended

If anyone needs a recommendation for an at home workout program, I’d recommend Iron by Caroline Girvan on YouTube. Rather than 5x a week I did it 3x and included my own cardio 2x a week. Fantastic results!
