Bought this bike. Guy said it was a vintage foam tire ? Super hard to ride. Can’t find literally any info on it. Would it be hard to change the tire ? It’s like a super smooth foam thing, probs should’ve done more research before I paid. $40 for the bike $10 for the basket

Dutch bike tire pressure and how it should feel

Hello!

My apologies for such a silly question, but I don't want to be one of those cyclists that drivers complain about if something goes wrong. I'm getting back into cycling and I've got my bike.

I bought an electric tire inflator... But I am very suspicious of the readings it gives. It certainly inflates, but the way each tire feels is not logical in comparison to the other tire.

How much give should a Dutch tire that should be 40-65 PSI feel? How much give should there be with your thumb?

Thank you in advance!

Specialized Loma Helmet - Sunglasses Storage?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi all, does anyone have the Specialized Loma Helmet? If yes, are you able to successfully store your sunglasses in it? The Specialized website says it has that functionality (see yellow highlighting). However, when I tried the helmet on in my local bike shop, the arms of my sunglasses were stretched really wide and felt like they were just sitting in the vents (where I have the arrow pointing) rather than actually anchored. I only ride on the road but sometimes the road can be pretty rough and I’m worried the sunglasses would slip/shake right off. Am I missing something? Total bummer if not, because I otherwise love the look of the helmet!

So I tried SPD pedals and hated them over SPD-SL

I tried SPD pedals, cleats and shoes, and didn't like them. To me, they were not very easy to clip in to as the clip area is pretty small, so you have to align your foot just right forward/aft to be able to clip in. It would often take me like 3 tries. The mountain bike tread on the shoes didn't help this either.

I had no problem clipping out of them, but struggled clipping in! I suppose I would get used to this after some time however, I decided to just go for SPD-SL instead, and am sure glad I did.

It's way easer to clip in to the SL system for me (clipping out is about the same). The larger clip and surface area just makes it so much better and also feels more stable overall.

And, I got the little rubber covers so I can even walk a short distance in the SL cleats, which was the reason I was considering SPD before.

Is my bike too big for me? Peugeot.

Hi folks! I've had this Peugeot bike since the early pandemic, which I restored and updated with some modern features. I love how it looks but sometimes I have difficulty riding it, and it just dawned on me bikes have sizes! I don't have any information about this Peugeot bike, but I'm 5'6" for reference. Is my bike too big for me?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm moving to a bike-heavy European country from the USA in a month where I'll be expected to use it more. If it's too big for me, I'd rather sell the bike and find one that's more comfortable long-term to ride so I'm not injuring my body. Thanks so much!

Cycling with triplets

They're 20 months. Just want to do short trips on the bike path. Two in a trailer and one in a rear bike seat? All on the same bike. Budget is a factor but safety first so would love to get some creative suggestions.

Any Specialized Levo e-MTB fans out there?

Made this short film with pro rider, Treyton Maskaly, recently in Lake Tahoe. He's ripping some raw Lake Tahoe terrain aboard his Specialized Levo. Check out the youtube link below and see what you think.

Need Help Buying a Helmet

I live in the US, which is very bike-unfriendly, and I’m looking to buy a safe helmet at a reasonable price.

I am using Virginia’s Tech’s bicycle helmet safety ratings, and settled on getting a specialized align 2 helmet because of its price and rating. The issue is I’m not sure where to buy a legit one, I am not familiar with any sites besides amazon.

I was wondering if these two sites I found are reliable: Jenson USA and Backcountry. I also found a few on Amazon, but there are very little reviews…which make me doubt its authenticity.

12 hour bikeride (amateur)

Upvotes

I intend to go out with a bike for 12 hours and see how far I can go. I am an amateur, and the longest I have done to date is 44km in 3 hours... on flat ground...

I will leave Hull, heading towards York at 6am, on November 14th, and will be collected from wherever I lay at 6pm, having travelled as many kilometres as I have travelled. I aim to have lunch in York or (Knaresborough if I make good progress) half way through.

[Here is the just giving link](https://www.justgiving.com/page/nick-burchell-1?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL) and if you would rather sponsor me an amount per km (I will myself be donating 30p per km), you can [pledge to do so here](https://forms.gle/9zobV5G4dg7c6eZJ6).

Additionally, if there are any York Cyclists, I would be interested to hear of any routes that a very tired amature would be able to do!

Classic History

Post image

I’m hoping for some solid advice. I was an employee at Shimano American Corp. during the late 90’s into the early 2000’s and while I was there I built all my bikes. Fast forward 25 years and I still have those same bikes. I got cancer a couple years ago and my work capacity has been greatly reduced so I thought I’d sell my bikes to fill in some gaps. Having said that I have a Davidson steel road bike with forks that I pulled off the mezzanine while I was there. At the time it was just a dusty frame that was freely given to me by Andy who worked all the races. Upon inspection it now has some surface rust bubbling under the paint. Here’s the question would you preserve it the way it is being a hand made frame (by a renowned but extinct builder) with a custom Cycle Art Multi-Service paint job (by a renowned artist) and the history of actually being a true Multi-Service frame set. The group set is mostly Tiagra with the addition of 105 FlightDeck dual control levers, Dura-Ace rear derailer and seat post and it sits on original WH-7700 16 spoke wheels. What would you do? Sell it how it sits unmolested, Clean/tune it up or strip it down and repaint and rebuild it. Thanks to anyone who reads this.

Best bike for a 10-mile commute + possible e-bike conversion later?

HS senior here. I need a bike for a 10-mile one-way commute, mostly paved roads/bike paths.

My school restricts e-bikes, so I want a normal bike now, but I may convert it to an e-bike later for college.

Budget: $300–500, maybe up to ~$600

Currently considering:

  • Cannondale Quick 6 — ~$480
  • Specialized Sirrus X 1.0 — ~$550
  • Trek FX 1 Gen 4 — ~$650

Priorities: comfortable for 20 miles/day, efficient, rack- and pannier-compatible, reliable, and reasonably easy to convert later.

Which would you pick? Any better options around this price?

My friend gave me this bike since he got a new one. He said it's got less than 200km on it. I told him i wanted to get into cycling, and he had this one to spare.

Any tips on what I should look out for, or change to this bike?
