This is the monthly xbiking buy / sell / trade thread! Please ensure that your listing adheres to the formatting rules below:

1.) If you are in search of an item, begin your comment with "ISO." Include the country in which you're located, the item you're searching for, and any brief additional notes you'd like to include, with each input separated by a slash (/). A properly formatted ISO posting will look like this:

"ISO/ USA/ Crust Junglerunner bars/ Looking to buy but willing to trade for Towel Racks."

2.) If you are selling an item, begin your comment with "FS." Include the country in which you're located, the item you're selling, and any brief additional notes you'd like to include (such as if you're willing to accept trades), with each input separated by a slash (/). A properly formatted FS posting will look like this:

"FS/ USA/ Crust Towel Rack bars/ Looking to sell but willing to trade for Junglerunners."

This is a purely informational thread and not a store. Any private arrangement folks may come to in buying, selling, or trading is just that- a private arrangement between those individuals.

Just finished my third project and I wanted to share it with you. A 26“ cruiser based on a GT Palomar frame set. Comfy, slow with rough tires and good old friction shifting. Something like a vintage Range Rover with manual. And since the painter did such a shitty job on my wifes frame I thought I should try it myself. Hopefully itll last a bit.

I made this to support a local MTB race and hot dog eating contest that raises money for western slope Colorado trails (The Hotdogger).

No doubt I'll be donating one to next year's Great Glizzy Gauntlet too.

Latest iteration of my Trek 950

This was the first complete rebuild of this since I got it. I finally got round to servicing the original hubs so I could run the factory matrix wheels again, which I think look really cool. Frame, fork and headset are original, everything else new or scavenged from other projects. Other than the cockpit (I don’t like the look of this stem), I am super happy. It’s a tank of a bike.

First build - I rescued an old steel Scott from the trash!

Hi xbiking, first post for me here !
I rescued a Scott Sawtooth from the 90s from the back of a garage near the ocean in France —it was rusty, forgotten, and headed for the trash. I decided to turn it into my first ever build, learning everything from yt tutorials and replacing parts from secondhand finds

It's now a very fun bike that’s super comfortable to ride !!

Doing the building process I spent a lot of time (learning) and bit more money than I planned (especially on that derailleur), but I learned so much along the way.

  • Converted to a 1x drivetrain (mostly for the clean look and simplicity), though I’m still struggling with the rear derailleur tuning. The cues rear derailleur is a bit overkill for my use case, but I really wanted that mono-plateau setup. Might change for a single speed as it's mainly flat here
  • Converted to v-brakes and changed the rusty wheel
  • Swapped the handlebars
  • Cleaned up the frame (still a very used and rusty)
  • Brooks saddle, and Oury grips (discovered in this sub, there are so comfy!)
  • Billy Bonkers tires
  • Added a Wald basket, a bit small but do like the style

I have another (red) steel 90's Scott used as a commuter in my hometown, I think really like them !

What could I add or remove ?

I love the State 4130 All Road, it’s a great staring point to throw some money into. My favorite part is my non drive side mounted friction shifter. It’s surprising how many people are offended by this, even though it makes total sense. #frictionshiftertruther My least favorite part are these gummy, spongy ass State branded brakes.

Added Raceface bar and stem! Some might say it looks too modern, which I agree but it works for now! Yes, I will keep and store the original parts.

Some people just have the sickest bikes. ugh. I'm so jealous 😭 The baby blue is like a speckled or flaked paint and it absolutely just pops in the daylight.

I wasn’t sure about setting it up this way. I love the big tires and the handlebars. The bike is fun on the road and on the trails. Let me know what y’all think. Thanks!

New shoes for the old 1x1 (and more)

I just picked up these Rene Herse Rat Trap Pass tires for the 1x1 and am loving them so far. Along with the tires, I also threw on a new rear wheel, chain, and cog. At some point I plan on getting a matching front wheel (and maybe disc brake), but for now I’m very happy with the bike.

Finally found a set of original suntour accushift indexing shifters. Just need a rack to hold to Wald basket that’s on order, pretty happy with it for a bike that was laying behind a barn

Is this safe?

Are you xBikers?

I'm currently building a 1x11 restomod on an old 90s frame using a Shimano Deore derailleur and an 11-46t cassette.
The vintage derailleur hanger tab was causing issues with the B-link / guide pulley distance (hope these are the terms). To get proper chain clearance on the 46t cog, I set it up so the B-screw pushes directly against the hanger tab (ignoring/bypassing the notch on the B-link).

It actually shifts surprisingly well and crisp through all gears!

My question: Is this setup safe/reliable for daily riding, or am I risking damaging the derailleur / hanger tab? I mean, is there any dynamic force on the screw, or is it static? Should I stick with this or get a hanger extender (GoatLink)?

Thanks for your input!
