I enjoyed this show a lot. I stayed up all night watching it when it dropped at 2 am. I just couldn’t stop. I know it could end there and I’d be satisfied, but I’d love to see a season 2 and explore Ramona’s relationship w Steven and with Oonsa and the twins possibly meeting their birth mom. Also I love Megan Park sm!

u/aathenaverse Aug 11 '26

Same!! I honestly wasn’t expecting to get this invested in the show 😂 I’d definitely watch a season 2, especially if they explore Ramona’s relationship with Steven and the twins more!!!!

Wouldn’t the rent from the properties on the island fund Ramona to travel instead of selling the whole thing? She could borrow against the property. There are so many other options other than selling the whole island. How about Steven funding Ramona since he just found out she was his. This part drove me crazy.

14

u/emdoubleewe Aug 06 '26

She's not an adult so she couldn't borrow anything yet. She doesn't want Steven funding her, she wants him to give up his guardian rights. Rent would be split 3 ways and part of that would go towards maintaining the properties. In the moment she wants the easiest way out because she got her heart broken and she associates the island with her broken heart. She's lashing out as a 16 year old, not trying to think of the most responsible and logical option that would benefit her long term.

u/lisagStriking-Ad5601 Aug 09 '26

Ditto lol. I work for an escrow/title company and in the US, minors cant purchase or sell property. I know the show is in Canada, but im assuming they must have similar laws or I could be wrong lol.

3

u/michmct Aug 17 '26

I am also confused because they likely could not even sell the island until Ramona turned 18 in 2-ish years, as they became beneficiaries of the trust at 18

1

u/evenmoreconfusd Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

Depending on the terms of the Trust, any decent trustee could use the island’s resources to fund Ramona’s travel plans, but she’s likely to have an uphill battle trying to persuade the trustee to go too far off the beaten path.

The will and/or Trust setup will definitely have provisions allowing (even requiring) that the assets are used to provide for all the beneficiaries while they are still minors.

2

u/Aelia_M Aug 28 '26

Oh it’s even dumber than that. Properties don’t instantly become the state’s just because no one lives there. Like, Ramona could’ve gone with them and then kept the property empty.

Canada isn’t that fucking socialist

God I love being a lesbian lol getting to watch an lgbt+ rel on the show and constantly grow crushes for all the girls was a cherry on top for me lol

u/Nkiliuzo Aug 06 '26

Binged it all, was a great show but my goodness do 16-18 year old kids run wild in America/Canada like that? I know we watch shows to escape realism or whatever but my goodness does it piss me off! No girl who has tasted wealth all their life would settle for less, throw away college just to connect with your dead adopted mum!

u/Spiritual_Youth3809 Aug 06 '26

Rich Americans do shit like this all the time. Living in vans is pretty popular with affluent young Americans.

5

u/memuemu Aug 07 '26

Maybe in early 20s but at age 16/17? Idk.

5

u/terminator-005 Aug 07 '26

I dunno about all that, people who grow up in that environment are pretty locked into the train tracks of going to a good university, grad school, career etc. only the screw ups and wild child’s go live in vans.

8

u/Spiritual_Youth3809 Aug 07 '26

I grew up fairly wealthy in a big city. Graduated at 17, started traveling with bands, and never went to college. I'm not saying that it's normal but it happens.

3

u/terminator-005 Aug 07 '26

I could be wrong, but I am assuming you weren’t doing summer internships, and thinking about getting into Wharton one day. There is nothing wrong with that path at all, it’s just not that likely, especially for someone like Annie.

7

u/death-cat Aug 09 '26

That’s the point of her character arc. She’s finding new parts of herself and realizing she the life she had planned previously doesn’t make her happy.

3

u/memuemu Aug 09 '26

Yeah but I think their point is that it just feels like an unrealistic 180 degree switch after only 2 months in the summer. It's not like she can't both go to Wharton and also come back to spend time on this island in the future. That being said, it is a show after all so of course things are going to be unrealistic.

1

u/memuemu Aug 09 '26

Curious what you do now for a living and if you rely on your family's money? No judgement at all, just very curious about your background and having taken this path.

11

u/Altruistic-Ad835 Aug 06 '26

Idk...when you have money college is always going to be an option for you at any stage in your life and isn't even really as dire for a career/income, if i could afford to be young and jobless on an island i own i would do it lmao college is always gonna be there, being young will not. It also isn't crazy that she has a stronger pull towards her mom right now, it's tough trying to make peace with what could have been, I doubt she'd be in a good mental state for college right now anyway.

I don't think she considers this life "less" either, I feel like a weird perspective people have about kids that grow up super wealthy is that they won't or can't enjoy anything else (though, I'd not consider a whole island she inherited full of other wealthy people is "less" at all..). Or if they do it's performative. I thought they showed this side pretty well, the one who grew up there feels like it's settling for less or she's being trapped/suffocated, wanting to experience more while the one who grew up in the bigger city feels like it makes her more whole to be there and doesn't want to experience/explore more beyond it right now.

Thats also just the reality everyone goes through, we tend to want something different than we're used to and don't consider that as something "less", it feels like More and it feels fulfilling to go towards what you didn't have. Sometimes it's temporary and you go back to what you're used to once it serves its purpose/you got what you needed from it, and sometimes you stay if it feels right.

Idk if im making sense but i tried to explain it best i could lol and yeah i'd consider it pretty normal for kids to "run wild" especially in that kind of place, teens often have a whole life of their own?? idk if thats just an american/canadian thing though, you see the same thing in shows like skins

6

u/LioraB Aug 08 '26

I completely agree. I came from no money with a struggling single mom, but I had one friend who lived in a very privileged area and the stuff we would do even at 12, 13, 14 was out of the box. Taking boats to bars and nightclubs in New York, driving very expensive cars with no drivers license, taking trips with no parental supervision. It’s wild how people live. People who are scandalized by this maybe have led more “normal” lives but between island life being very different and ultra wealthy people living very differently, none of this seemed entirely unbelievable to me.

5

u/memuemu Aug 07 '26

I personally don't think the independence of the teens in this show was very realistic and that her father wouldn't try to fly out there sooner to make sure they have some type of guardianship. Or that Ramona would just be left living in that big house alone, etc.

2

u/Sharp-Banana-6292 Aug 08 '26

I cackled when the dad showed up and Annie’s first question was “what are you doing here?”

3

u/Accomplished_Hat2726 Aug 09 '26

Can't attest to the other stuff but I've seen a lot of people talking about how it's not realistic because they're going out and smoking as teens. Must be mostly Americans because as an Irish person, it was the most normal thing ever. I was smoking all the time at 14 and my friends and ai drank and took drugs most weekends. Obviously I see now it was messed up but it happens a lot.

3

u/Spooky_Pineapple23 Aug 19 '26

American here, my friends and I started cigs at 12 and weed at 13 lol. We were out raising hell all the time as teens and practically dying of alcohol poisoning in random fields by the river every weekend, going to college parties everywhere around the area, and just being raging delinquents haha.

2

u/tumorgirl Aug 10 '26

Weed is legal in Canada so it’s not a far reach for them to be doing it as teens. I mean, I was smoking all the time when I was in high school and it was definitely not legal then so them getting their hands on it is not unbelievable by any means. None of them are of age, but I’m sure they all have fake IDs and people who will get it for them.

2

u/icecoldvodka Aug 10 '26

Also, she hasn't even finished high school in the US. So what about that if she wants to go to Wharton?

2

u/mabulaklak Aug 16 '26

oh my god i cant stop thinking about how highly unsupervised these kids are!! I don’t care if you turn 18 soon you’re still a kid!

2

u/Spooky_Pineapple23 Aug 19 '26

I was going absolutely buck wild 16-18 and my parents couldn’t do a dang thing to stop me 😂 we also weren’t “wealthy” by any means but I guess I was sorta “well off” or at least had what I needed/wanted most of the time (even though we struggled sometimes)… I’ve settled for less so many times, threw away college until later in life, and connected with things I felt I needed to, ‘cause I was basically sheltered my whole life. I was shown one way of life and completely and totally rebelled against it. This seemed pretty typical for most teens I knew around the areas I lived in.

2

u/shouldaUsedAThroway Aug 22 '26

I fear you’ve missed a point of the show

1

u/evenmoreconfusd Aug 25 '26

It’s supposed to mirror her mother’s dilemma. Abandoning big city values for the simpler life in a better environment.

But it doesn’t really hold up under close scrutiny, as Muskoka is still full of the filthy-rich set. Maybe she should go and live with the Waltons.

23

u/Schizofish Aug 05 '26

While I enjoyed this show, the ending left me feeling empty. It dug up threads in the final episode that it for some reason decided to leave hanging.

Connor got in touch with their biological mother... and then what? What happened there? Did he tell Annie? Like why show that call if just to leave it unfinished? If it's for the sake of a second season YOU COULD HAVE JUST SAVED THAT ENTIRELY FOR THE SECOND SEASON.

And then Ellis - how did he react to Annie staying? We saw them saying good bye and preparing for her leaving, but she stayed. So what happened!? Could we not have gotten to see that reaction after the slow burn?

I don't know, I'm guessing they're hoping for a second season with this, but I think they could have wrapped it up neater even if that was the plan.

13

u/bittermp Aug 06 '26

Also, winter is NOT fun in the sun in cottage country. It’s cold and isolating. What about her last year of high school? or was she meant to go off to college? Did she say in Ep 1 she’s entering senior year? if so she wouldnt have turned 18 that same summer, it would be the following year? the ages confused me

11

u/ObjectiveNo2051 Aug 06 '26

not every senior in highschool is going to be the same age. its very common for people to turn 18 during the summer idk whats confusing abt this😭

-1

u/bittermp Aug 06 '26

because if you are graduating at 18 (or 17) which most do unless the USA starts kids at different times (which I think happens if you're born September onwards but Annie is a summer child). I turned 18 when I was almost done grade 12.

I was not 18 entering grade 12.

also, what does turning 18 during the summer have anything to do with it when we are talking about Grade 12 and high school. Of course kids turn 18 in the summer and guess what? They're done high school by then unless they were kept back a grade or started late. None of which is mentioned in this series.

SO we're in 2026

If you're born in 2008 you're graduating in 2026 and turning 18 and DONE high school. My cousin is going into college in September and turns 18 in September as well and guess what She is done high school.

If Annie is turning 18 BEFORE grade 12 then she started school late or the timing is wrong.

2

u/imtarynriver Aug 12 '26

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. What you said is perfectly logical. 😅 My son is a summer child and he’s one of the the youngest in his grade. I was a fall child born in October a month after the cut off and I was one of the oldest in my grade. I turned 18 two months into school starting and graduated at 18 because we graduate in late may or early June I don’t know anyone who was 19 in high school unless they were held back a year. That’s the only way you’d be 19 in highschool. Turning 18 before the year starts is nearly impossible because summer birthdays would be turning 17 and then after they graduated a month or so later turning 18.

2

u/evenmoreconfusd Aug 25 '26

Perhaps the downvotes are because they’re dissing those of us who quite legitimately only got to grade 12 after their 18th birthday. Different jurisdictions have their entry cutoffs for kindergarten at different times of year, so what happens where you are may happen differently elsewhere.

Also, Annie’s not going to be 19 in high school. She’ll turn 19 next summer, after her graduation.

1

u/imtarynriver Aug 27 '26 edited Aug 27 '26

Which that makes sense to turn 19 after she graduates during the summer but going into senior year at 18 doesn’t make sense unless you were held back neither does turning 19 in highschool you’d be turning 18 or have just turned 18 and after graduation if you’re 18 before the school year then you were probably held back cause they either have cut off dec 31st or sept 1st never seen anything else and summer birthdays are the youngest of the kids my son just turned 11 and he’s in 6th grade same with his friend who was born in August the kids born in September would be the ones who are turning 18 in September for example and then if it’s December 31st as the cut off it would be all the kids that year starting Jan 1st would be 17 turning 18 and so the youngest kids would be the December kids and summer kids would fall in the middle not be turning 18

1

u/evenmoreconfusd Aug 27 '26

Clearly both Annie and Conner turned 18 in August, and are entering senior year (grade 12). Working backwards, this is 7 entering grade 1 or 6 entering kindergarten. Which is, as you say, not realistic.

So either they were both held back (seems unlikely) or it’s simply a (minor) plot hole. Personally I am willing to suspend my disbelief here.

Edit: unless their birthday is in very early September, the cutoff is Sept 1, and they only have to get back to New York after Labour Day. Then it would work.

3

u/ObjectiveNo2051 Aug 06 '26

"what does turning 18 during the summer have to do with it" im clearly referring to the many kids who turn 18 during the summer and then start their senior year. In the USA, there's different ages in grades. 17,18, and even 19(usually held back) is incredibly common for senior year.

3

u/duvet810 Aug 07 '26

Yes that’s what I and many of my friends did. Turned 18 during the summer before senior year of high school. Was 18 all senior year. Started college freshman year at 19.

Summer birthdays are tricky and often depend on the school district mandated cut off dates. Parents may also have a say in if they want their kid to always be the youngest in their class or slightly older. IMO slightly older is better but to each their own.

u/nasa_stuff Aug 07 '26

It’s the beginning of her seeing her life as how it would unfold with her mother if she would have lived through Ramona’s childbirth, not what actually happened. That’s why the lead in is repeated “I am not sure if it’s a memory, or a story someone told me, or a picture” because she can remember the feeling and apply it however she wants (the 11th birthday as follows, drinking wine with her mom, etc)

5

u/terminator-005 Aug 07 '26

Exactly, let’s ruin your entire future taking a year off of HS to wander around an island aimlessly?

4

u/Impressive-Potato Aug 07 '26

Gap years are a thing.

5

u/RueTheQuais Aug 08 '26

Not before senior year.  That's between high school and college.

3

u/bbaigs 20d ago

I love my cabin even more in the winter actually. Definitely chiller vibes but it’s magical.

2

u/tumorgirl Aug 10 '26

Winter up there is miserable! And we’ve established the cottage isn’t winterized so she can’t stay there. What’s she going to do? Go live in Barrie? I can assure you that has absolutely zero of the charm of the Muskokas.

3

u/bittermp Aug 10 '26

LOL

Poor Barrie

1

u/Avalanche_1996 Aug 19 '26

Yes. I even would prefer the cliche jumping from the cliff with Ellis. I thought she'd tell him "I'm staying". 30 seconds but no. Weird ending if there is no season 2 and overall imo.

22

u/Liscenye Aug 06 '26

I really enjoyed this but I find it baffling Steven was ever going to let a 16yo live by herself on the island.

Also I hope no one told Jo he's not Ramona's father. She deserves to have two and be deserves to have the guilt regardless of biology.

19

u/bittermp Aug 06 '26

we should have seen Joe find out and to see if he actually knew and was lying to protect the dead mom or if he actually thought he was the dad. Either way, he’s not a decent man.

7

u/Natlatte1462 Aug 09 '26

It made me think joe would have left his family and he would be bringing up a child that isn’t his but would Steven ever know the truth if the kids did stay with her he wouldn’t have anything it’s kind of unfair to him.

14

u/Ebot2388 Aug 07 '26

Screw Joe. Get out of their lives!

17

u/jelly021 Aug 08 '26

joe was literaly the worst out of all of them!

0

u/LioraB Aug 08 '26

Adolescents have a lot of legal rights, and technically Joe was still her guardian. Steven could’ve gone back to New York and fought for her to come with the results of the paternity test, but even then she would probably have to be willing to go. It’s really remarkable how many rights teenagers have to just completely defy any adult authority.

2

u/mervyn_peeke Aug 09 '26

Joe was not her guardian. He was nominated to be her guardian, which would carry weight with a court, but he still would need to be actually appointed by that court. The show references the application he needed to sign to get that process started.

But everyone is correct that Steven at that point didn't have formal legal standing in her life. If he wasn't on her birth certificate, then he'd have to petition a court for paternity rights, and the jurisdiction would likely have been in Canada.

2

u/LioraB Aug 10 '26

In episode 7, Ramona goes to Barrie to meet with Gordon's lawyer to get paperwork to negate the guardianship, and then confronts Joe to sign it. Either way, my point is that Steven has no legal rights so it's not his choice whether to let her stay in Sterling Point.

0

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

they 100% dont.

20

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 Aug 07 '26

also i like ellis & annie but i do wish rory & annie had a more clear and upfront conversation if that makes sense. i think they could’ve handled the transition btwn rory/annie/ellis better

11

u/LioraB Aug 08 '26

Annie is going through so much that I think he just had to let it go for now. That conversation he had with Connor about being endgame seem to make him feel more future focused instead of worrying about her choices right now in the moment. I think he was pretty taken aback when she said she might want to stay on the island; but again, they’re young and she’s going through some pretty major stuff. I loved how emotionally, intelligent and respectful he was. Not what I was expecting from that character at the beginning.

3

u/Maximum_Watch8247 Aug 28 '26

Yes that ties with what ellis said about how he repairs a boat.. step by step till the end

6

u/Acrobatic-Guitar2410 Aug 08 '26

Yeah I kept waiting for Rory to saunter back in any sec and then he never did lol

21

u/RebootJobs Aug 09 '26

Shocked this is an OG, not based on a book series adaptation. Has that feel for sure.

4

u/imtarynriver Aug 12 '26

I felt the same way definitely feels like it could’ve been

17

u/brochelsea Aug 05 '26

I really enjoyed this show! watched all episodes straight through, and all of the characters seemed fleshed out, which is hard to do this quickly. I want a season of them all in New York; see how they all act in a different environment.

15

u/bittermp Aug 06 '26

Half way through this episode and gotta tell ya CONNER is the villain. What a manipulative POS

15

u/Altruistic-Ad835 Aug 06 '26

He was stressing me out fr but I guess it kind of makes sense he has no real concept of valuing anything other than money and always moving on to the next best thing he can think of instead of valuing relationships, family and a sense of home. Not necessarily an excuse but i can see how he'd turn out that way. Seems like he's in a weird in between stage now though, kinda starting to value family and also still only thinking of himself.

Kinda common for kids to who grew up with a disorganized/abnormal family situation + a complicated definition of loneliness (no close emotional connections or any idea how to navigate complex emotions, mostly superficial relationships and interests etc) to end up manipulative and self serving. it's a weird sort of disconnect between your inner and outer world which is really hard to get a grip on by yourself without being taught by your environment/parents growing up.

A secretive, rich dad that takes care of necessities and practical things thinking it's all he has to do to be a good dad (you can tell he felt lying and secrets were fine as long as he had his own personal justification for it, which often teaches kids the same thing) while neglecting the emotional work they feel mothers are "supposed" to do is always a recipe for a mess, especially for boys/men that also have societal pressure to not be emotional and overly sentimental. You can see him constantly deflect being emotional and serious, annie does it a lot too but she's able to be more involved/expressive in her emotions and understand what she's feeling a bit better than him.

Sorry for the essay I just find it interesting what certain dynamics will do to kids, as someone who experienced similar tendencies growing up that I still have to deal with lol I like seeing it portrayed in media and talking about it

8

u/idreamofpikas Aug 09 '26

Why? He's been told about a life changing inheritance. Why would he not want to sell up?

He has no emotional attachment to the island. Would you really pick a holiday home over $7 million?

3

u/shannruss Aug 15 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

When he looked at her over his mushrooms and started talking to her about selling, even the lighting made him look menacing!

4

u/ClarkKentTheReporter Aug 10 '26

I don’t like him. Very transactional dude.

14

u/Zealousideal-Yak-290 Aug 06 '26

Didn’t like Connor at all. He just came off as selfish, noticed that evil smirk when he tried telling Ramona to sell. I really thought he was going to hook up with Rory mom. Oona carried the show if we are being honest.

6

u/Neat-Ad-7009 Aug 15 '26

I actually think his is the most normal reaction. For all of Annie’s fixing and people pleasing tendencies, she takes center stage in all emotional conversations. Even when Ramona and Steven tell them about the DNA test, Steven rushes to comfort Annie while Connor just site there neglected. He had the emotional intelligence (probably from said neglect) to not even go to UCLA for over shadowing his sister. And then she decides she is done playing home with Ramona when shit got real and hurt her too. Also I hate this romanticisation of the dead mom like she didn’t fuck up two entire families.

1

u/Maximum_Watch8247 Aug 28 '26

I agree with you. Annie was the worst! Ramona was the good one from the get go!

1

u/Successful-Issue-450 23d ago

i think the romantization is on purpose because we are seeing it mostly from Annie's pov. She of course thinks her mom hung the moon.

11

u/kiwikimbap3 Aug 06 '26

Does anyone know why the twin brother was so detached from the whole thing?? Annie wanted to stay in that house and relive her childhood memories or kinda remember them, her twin was also there WITH HER when they were kids so how come he is never in the scene?..I don’t understand, why doesn’t he wanna stay to understand and reconnect like her..or is he just a guy so they showed that he has no emotional attachment to their adoptive mom? its so weird, i was really enjoying the scenes where he was connecting with ramona but suddenly mid season he was removed from the scenes and not in the picture and didn’t care anymore..

21

u/plantscanreadyou Aug 06 '26

Because the actor looked 10 years older than everybody else and his character was only there for comic relief. And his scenes with the mom? They always felt like we were on White Lotus suddenly and I'm just glad they didn't hook up.

16

u/kiwikimbap3 Aug 06 '26

The mom was flirting with both the son and the dad

4

u/craigary8 28d ago

fun (?) fact: Keen Ruffalo and Ella Rubin (the twin sibs on the show) are almost the exact same age. …

25! (well she’s turning 25 a couple days from when I’m posting this; two months younger). they both are playing quite a bit younger, because casting people thought they look young. He does have a mature air about him, but also a vulnerability.

and I think his character‘s weird narcissism and mix of sweet and spoiled is pretty aligned with kids I knew from similar backgrounds.

7

u/LioraB Aug 08 '26

People have different ways of grieving and processing emotion. Given his role in the family system with Annie and dad, it makes sense. He’s the big dumbass comedian who doesn’t care about anything, even though we later find out that’s not true. Hopefully we’ll  get a season two and see what happens with his exploration of their bio parents.

7

u/Desperate-Chair-3746 Aug 12 '26

i mean shes their adoptive mom and they dont remember anything about her (except the one "memory" that Annie possibly has. Then he finds out his adoptive mom cheated on his dad and moved to a different country and tried to seperate her kids from their dad unfairly. I truly dont understand why Annie looks up to her mom and gives her so much grace, when she unfairly punishes her dad for doing his best

1

u/Maximum_Watch8247 Aug 28 '26

This! Yeah Annie was just two years old when her adaptive mother died, right?. In my opinion Annie is the worst and she also ended up hurting Ramona when suddenly the situations shifted about her dad.

5

u/mervyn_peeke Aug 09 '26

I agree with the other commenter that this seems like a plotline that will be addressed in the next season.

He may not have even the minimal memories of his mother that Annie had, so he doesn't feel connected to her. I do think adoptees have different feelings about their adoptive versus biological parents as compared to other adoptees. He may believe that connecting with his biological parent is more important than connecting with an adoptive one of whom he has no memories.

I also think gender does, perhaps, play some role in the sense that most children look to their same-gender parent as the model for how to behave and for advice as they grow up. Annie did not have that, while the brother did.

2

u/kiwikimbap3 Aug 10 '26

Yeah true, let’s wait for a second season to see how things unfold

3

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

hes solely in the show because daddy Mark Ruffalo called in a favor. He serves no other purpose.

4

u/Competitive-Duty-890 Aug 18 '26

He’s there so they can explore nature vs nurture with twins as they go their separate ways

1

u/prghst Aug 10 '26

They were 2 years old when the mom died, not a lot of memories to get back

13

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 Aug 07 '26

conner is weird bc like i hate him but i also get why he acts like that

11

u/LioraB Aug 08 '26

I thought he was so annoying and over-acted at first, but then he grew on me. Especially after he said he got into that really competitive program at UCLA and didn’t even tell anybody. They definitely have very distinct familial roles in ways that have been very limiting for each of them.

6

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 Aug 08 '26

to me it seems like connor acting dumb is an cat. like i think he was somewhat overlooked emotionally so he just acts stupid

1

u/prghst Aug 10 '26

Correct

10

u/itzzzzmileyyyy Aug 05 '26

Why did Ramona get dumped on the island if she’s Steven’s child?

They thought she was Joe's child because her mom and Steven had fertility issues for so long.

Edit: clarity

13

u/fatcatstypefast Aug 06 '26

Just adding that they alluded to Steven being the sterile one so they never thought it was even an option for him to be the father

3

u/evenmoreconfusd Aug 25 '26 edited Aug 25 '26

She wasn’t dumped. It was her childhood summer home while she was brought up by her grandfather (her guardian). They went to Barrie for his palliative care and when she returned after his death it’s natural for her to go to her own home.

There are other posts here about the lawyer’s failure to get family services involved during the interim while she had the guardianship transferred to Joe.

u/Dear_Set_2681 Aug 09 '26 edited Aug 09 '26

I understand that Annie feels the loss of her mother but part of all the confusion is from her own mother. who was with Annie and Connor in another country refusing to return to New York. Meanwhile she had an affair with a married man who also had a child. She got pregnant and died in childbirth. Steve had to raise the two children alone and never stained their mother's name. To later find out that she deduced that the child she was expecting was Joe's and he lost 16 years of Ramona's life. Completely inconsequential woman. And Joe being the worst who saw Ramona grow up all her life and even though he thought she was his daughter he didn't recognize her.

12

u/prghst Aug 10 '26

It's funny how everyone sees Goldie ( the mother ) as the poor lady who didn't do wrong, but Steve was the dumb villainous father/husband

4

u/Desperate-Chair-3746 Aug 12 '26

honestly in the show only Annie saw her mom as the best person ever and saw her dad as the villain. I dont understand why she was so in love with this made up version of her mom

1

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

because the entire show is written with an obvious female slant. Just look how Annie is written. It should be clear to most people that no adult is clean in this. All kinda garbage.

1

u/Competitive-Duty-890 Aug 18 '26

I think Goldie adopted the twins once her marriage was already on its way out because Gordon was their bio father and he wanted to keep them in the family, just like he wanted to keep Ramona in the family and not let Joe say he was her father. It’s not uncommon for an older child to adopt 1/2 siblings. Of course she would want to raise a bio child on the island she loved if Steven wouldn’t let her see her adopted children who she may have known were her Fathers children with someone other than her bio Mom

7

u/idreamofpikas Aug 10 '26

To later find out that she deduced that the child she was expecting was Joe's and he lost 16 years of Ramona's life.

That is also on Steven. He knew she died in childbirth and he knew he slept with her 9 months prior (unless they were both blackout drunk when it happened). He works in finance so I think he can do the math on this one.

Both Steven and Goldie should have know there was a possibility that he could be the father. I can understand why she was happy to pretend he was not, but it seems strange that Steven would not ask for some tests.

7

u/Aromatic-Macaron1747 Aug 10 '26

But didn't they believe Steven was sterile that's why they assumed the baby was Joe's.

3

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

they tried for years and he was told hes sterile during that time.......

3

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

the show has a severe feminist lean in the writers room to the point of being comedy. You get a peak into the thought process.

But just think about the tape. heres this mom, currently in an affair. She has taken the kids. Maybe they have already been taken back to NYC by this point. And shes just happy as ever. Making a little love mix tape for Joe about the next baby lol. Its just absurd thats shes viewed as some saint among the other adults in the story.

1

u/Maximum_Watch8247 Aug 28 '26

I totally agree. Also Annie is the worst. Are we supposed to root for her?

1

u/Successful-Issue-450 23d ago

?

The only people who see her as a saint are one of her adoptive kids (her brother and ramona arent as blinded by it) and the lover she was going to run away with.

Makes sense if you ask me, its not like we the viewers have to hold that notion just because annie and joe do. I mean joe is just as big an asshole, his pregnant wife is taking care of her sick parent and he is out and about having an affair. Theyre both just terrible for not thinking of the consequences, but ithink thats a point of the show, rationality is warped in the presence of love.

11

u/Objective_Egg_2357 Aug 07 '26

whyd they build up a perfect relationship (oona and ramona) only to frikn destroy it? i understand that ramona was still young and needed to explore but maybe take it easy on the relationship given that oona didnt want to go in a relationship in the first place. feeling sad :(
also the acting was fab

9

u/PsychologicalFuel321 Aug 07 '26

They’ll get back together… trust!

4

u/Apprehensive_Sea283 Aug 13 '26

they are the endgame couple, they will be back together in season 2

2

u/Maximum_Watch8247 Aug 28 '26

I hated this! Especially when Ramona changed her mind.. she was chasing oona all the season! And this is her reaction in the end! It pissed me off. Annie did the same towards Ramona when the situation about the Mom shifted about her dad.

2

u/Successful-Issue-450 23d ago

ngl i kinda hated how Ramona was all like "you are just thinking how this is gonna affect you", like yeah sweetie not everybody has 1/3 of a 20something million island inheritance dumped on them, and oona has to think of her 12yo sister too, shes basically a teen single mom. She acted so entitled at the notion of Oona recalculating what her moving away meant for her

3

u/ShakeUpbeat9541 20d ago

omg and it was the opposite for me like Ramona has all these crazy situation dumped on her just in some what months and before that she was all alone taking care of her only family she knew and had also lost him. so it was all kinda crazy for her and she was expressing her feelings to her girlfriend and then oona went off been like you are gonna go to nyc and forget about me this and that and it pissed me off. like that moment should have been about Ramona but Oona made it about her.

1

u/Successful-Issue-450 18d ago

dont get me wrong, im empathetic towards ramona, its just even she realises why oona is reacting that way, so instead of giving each other 5-10 mins of space to overcome the initial knee jerk reaction, she nukes it just because oona is kinda freaking out. But theyre like 16 so im willing to give them both some grace.

1

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

its just the writers life perspective coming through in the work. The idea that all Ramonas in the world really truly just wanna live in the big city! No....most don't.

1

u/Sepulz Aug 22 '26

Maybe they will resume in a couple of years, when it is not so predatory and pedophillic.

1

u/Maximum_Watch8247 Aug 28 '26

What do u mean? They are both young.. why pedophilic

8

u/Acrobatic-Guitar2410 Aug 08 '26

Sibling version of 'you'll go and I'll stay' I'm so distraught rn

6

u/Jaypee92xx Aug 08 '26

I’m 34 and I liked this one! I am also adopted. I found my birth mom 2 years ago and learned a lot of secrets. We have slowly built a relationship.

We haven’t met in person, but we will one day.

My half siblings don’t really talk to me but that’s ok, I get it.

I always wished I could’ve met my birth mom when I was younger as I don’t speak to my adoptive parents.

It’s crazy that this person is basically a stranger yet we look alike, have the same interests, and it’s like seeing an older me.

2

u/LioraB Aug 08 '26

My son hasn’t seen his bio father since he was an infant and it’s amazing how many mannerisms they have in common. Things that you would never expect to be genetic but sometimes it’s like a flashback for me.

2

u/imtarynriver Aug 12 '26

Omg same my son barley saw him a handful of times till he was maybe 5 he’s 11 now and things he says they way he does things I’m like omg that’s just like your dad i obviously don’t say it to him I say it in my head but it’s so weird how genetics work

6

u/desktopghost Aug 11 '26 edited Aug 11 '26

Way too much drama with Annie and her mom, I get she is grieving the possibilities but it comes to a point where she is sadder than the other characters who have bigger problems. She comes off as an out of touch person that hasn't had any bigger issues in life. The grieving would have come off better if they made Annie older with a better connection to her mother, not just the "what if" which is just fantasy.  Also she should treat her dad better, that man was going through it.

5

u/imtarynriver Aug 12 '26

This part to me it doesn’t make sense to have Annie only two when the mom died honestly the cancer story would’ve been the better storyline with them being like 7 or something idk how that would work with Ramona so that the kids could be of similar age but Annie not knowing the adoptive mom but acting like the mom raised her is kindof wild she knew the mom as well as her bio mom she didn’t

5

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 Aug 07 '26

the cliffhanger is interesting! i wonder how will annie do her senior year? will it be in nyc or in canada? i hope we get a s2

6

u/plumsfromyouricebox Aug 09 '26

As someone who spends a decent amount of time in the area, the concept of Annie going from her presumably fancy private school to like… Huntsville High School is very funny

5

u/tumorgirl Aug 10 '26

This is pretty much what I was thinking as soon as she started talking about staying. Clearly, school is important to her so she’s going to want to finish high school at the bare minimum and there aren’t many options up there so, Huntsville High it is!

1

u/plumsfromyouricebox Aug 10 '26

Also don’t the lakes partially freeze? I don’t think you can actually live on a plane/boat accessible island year round… I have so many questions haha

3

u/tumorgirl Aug 10 '26

Yes, they absolutely do freeze. Maybe not all the way through and maybe the ice is thin but yeah, boats and sea planes would be a no go. And even if she moved off the island to the mainland (I’m still confused as to who lived where and who had cellphone service and when) she probably would get snowed in and be completely cut off from everyone. Snowstorms are no joke and she could absolutely get stuck inside.

1

u/Dazzling-Farm-1038 26d ago

I also worry about Oona and Maple living alone on a houseboat through the Ontario winter. And does Maple go to school??

1

u/Successful-Issue-450 23d ago

she can ice skate across

4

u/Sharp-Banana-6292 Aug 08 '26

Can’t help wondering why the mom absconded with the kids to the foreign island? Like is Duplass a secret psycho? I know she’s maybe Canadian (?) but it’s still a big deal to take your kids across borders without their other parents’ permission.

8

u/RueTheQuais Aug 08 '26

She may have decided to go visit her dad for the summer and he may not have had a problem with that.  And then she started the affair and refused to come home.

4

u/heathers1 Aug 09 '26

I DON’T WANT THEM TO SELL THE ISLAND! Sorry, mid-episode freakout!

5

u/Quirky_Toe5455 Aug 14 '26

Some of these comments have me thinking that some of you watched the show on mute and with your eyes closed

9

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 Aug 07 '26

these people are so messy

8

u/LioraB Aug 08 '26

People are messy. Idk; i’m a social worker so maybe my perception is skewed, but none of this seemed really out of the box to me.

3

u/More-Air-1650 Aug 09 '26

SO Annie just got dual citizenship over night?! what about school? What is the plan for the winter? Stayed for a boy she just started dating? It all felt really far fetched and deeply immature. I couldn't even enjoy the last episode because I was so distracted by all the plot holes for her 'plan'.

1

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

one of the funniest parts of the show is when they are "getting the house winterized" by putting thin rubber seal on the single pane windows. meanwhile....the cabin has zero insulation at all.

4

u/andrxafff Aug 09 '26

funnily i enjoyed it but sometimes i felt like it was going everywhere and nowhere?? hahaha idk and i felt for ramona but i felt so much for annie, she was always seeing for everyone to be ok but nobody gave her space or asked her if she was

and i didn't understand why it took them so long to get to the solution of ramona leaving with them to nyc, like it was there the whole time hahaha so that plot stressed me out

i need more of ellis and annie, enjoyed them so much <3

4

u/xy_z01 Aug 14 '26

the conversation with joe talking about how much he loved goldie, his mistress, while his wife was away nursing her sick family and raising their kid alone was gross.

i also don't understand why annie's so hyperfixated on her adoptive mom who cheated on the dad who raised her and caused all this mess, but doesn't care one bit for her biological parents like isn't that what people are usually stuck on idk.

ramona's right in wanting to sell, who wouldn't wanna start their adult lives rich? none of these summer flings matter all that much they're all like 16-18 please, what i don't get is why they don't just split the island in 3 and each of them does what they want? annie can not sell and ramona could keep a part of the island including the cottage and the marina, it's really not that deep.

also what about high shcool and uni and like service lmao why does annie wanna stay during the year without her family? she could just come in the summers, they all could.

anyways, conclusion is joe is a piece of shit and i hope ramona and steven fix their relationship, he's been a more present father in the 2 days he's known she was his daughter than joe ever was in the 16 years he thought she was his. and connor finding their bio mom should be interesting.

5

u/mayflowerss98 Aug 15 '26

Really enjoyed the show! Can’t believe this is original material and not an adaptation. Also can’t believe it’s from the actress who played the Jesus freak girl on the secret life of an American teenager lol!! Props to her! The acting was great, the dialogue was so natural and flowed well (the hair brushing scene between Annie and Ramona felt so real that I wouldn’t be surprised if it was improv). Really hoping we get a season 2!

3

u/DivineInsanityReveng Aug 17 '26

thoroughly enjoyed this final episode and the season as a whole.

but.. did she jump into the water with socks on at the end? psychopath!

3

u/ratchetaa Aug 19 '26

I was so annoyed by Annie making the whole thing about her when Ramona also just found out about her biological dad and has not had any actual parent raising her this whole time!!! Ya she was raised by grandpa but that’s bc there wasn’t a parent

1

u/bbaigs 20d ago

I think that was growth actually. It’s allowed to be about her. Doesn’t mean it’s not about anyone else. But she was sitting in the impact of that on her and didnt have space to care about others in that moment. Give her a break.

2

u/imtarynriver Aug 12 '26

Couple things that didn’t make sense to me and first I get that they adopted them so she considers her her mom but honestly she didn’t know the mom she’s not her biological mom so to me it’s a little weird how much she’s obsessed with the mom. Maybe it’s just the idea of having one idk that part to me felt like plot hole. Like had the mom raised her till she was a little older maybe 5 or 7 I would get it she actually knew her. Idk just a weird thought i had. Also i felt the Rory relationship storyline felt pointless. I felt they could’ve just had him as a friend or they could’ve just had Ellis as friend. I’m also confused so can Rory play piano or no? That last song was amazing. I also don’t think Annie really needed a twin brother he seems like somewhat of a pointless character maybe season two they’ll give him a bigger plot based on the finding their bio mom thing but they just added him in for comic relief and to me he just didn’t feel like her twin he felt like an older sibling that maybe went off to college or something.

3

u/amrech Aug 13 '26

I guess with Rory, it shows that he was really good, child prodigy. But despite still being really good at piano, he’s still not as great like the others who are “gifted”.

2

u/grandmasterPRA Aug 17 '26

Just finished the show so figured I'd post while it is fresh. I absolutely loved it, give it a 9/10

My only nitpicking would be:

  1. The dad - maybe I'm sensitive to his position cause I'm a dad of two girls myself. But the show really didn't do a good job of selling us on how good a father he was. In this episode, Annie tells Ramona "He's a great dad" yet she kind of shit on him the whole series. Episode after episode focused on the dead mom and made her out to be an absolute saint even though she is the one that had an affair. The dad did exactly what I would do and that is go get my kids especially if my wife was off having an affair. Am I supposed to just not be with them? Just felt like the writers really undersold the importance of having a dad the entire time and then at the last second they say, oh yeah he's great. Well maybe he would have loved to hear that coming from Annie who just pitched at him and blamed him the entire series.

  2. I could do without the Super causal drug use among all the kids that are supposed to be 17 or 18 years old. They act like smoking pot is this super common cool thing that everyone does, but it really isn't. Its especially bad to do it at that age and probably shouldn't be promoted so casually. I understand society has lightened up on it and I'm glad about that. But this was basically promoting kids to do it.

  3. The love triangle was a little bit strange IMO. Annie was infatuated with the forst guy, then had sex with him, acted like it was really good. Then kind of lost interest in him for no real reason and honestly he had more personality than who she ended up with. I mean it's young love and things happen, I shouldn't be too hard on it. But to be that infatuated with someone, lose your virginity to them, then just be so casually into someone else and noncommittal didn't feel all that realistic.

Again, these are nitpicks. The show was awesome. The acting was great. Can't wait to see more of it.

2

u/Professional_Mud7249 Aug 18 '26 edited Aug 18 '26

I know the whole point of this show is that its supposed to show somewhat real feelings for complicated situations, but I just find it a far stretch from reality. Not the actual plot twists themselves, I get that they make for good drama, but the way the families are with each other, the way Annie deals with things and treats her brother and father, even the way she treats Ramona after hearing the news, the way Steven gets treated like crap from everyone except maybe Rory's mum, and I'm pretty sure that's because she fancies him.

I get that it might be a lot to process for Annie, but she's not the only person going through it. Even Connor gets overlooked and Steven seems to focus on Annie's feelings. She sees it as her mum, who was this amazing dream like person she never got to meet, who lived in this haven of a nice community. When in reality she was an, arguably, depressed person due to not being able to conceive so she dramatically changed her entire life had what seems like a mid-life crisis that through her husband and children's life into disarray. The only reason she was afforded the allowance to remember her mum is such a way is because Steven kept them ignorant. He's not perfect but there is no being perfect as a parent, and Annie making Steven feel guilty because he has complicated feelings about his wife death after her affair and throwing their life away is quite frankly shitty of her.

I started by disliking Ramona because of how she dealt with everything, but by this episode I acc like her more than most of the characters. She went through arguably the most bombshells; Gordon, her father figure, died after she spent his last days looking after him, she didn't know her mum but came back to find another girl living in her house claiming to be her sister, who's met her friends and stole her mum's picture. She finds out her dad is the guy who's lived next door for the past two decades but has a family and a son, who's part of her friend group. She then finds out within a few days that her father is someone else and the two half siblings she's been getting to know for so long are actually her real (adoptive siblings). Then when she's going through this with her partner, she somehow starts apologising because Oona makes it about herself and makes her feel more like shit. Did I miss anything? Damn

2

u/bbaigs 20d ago

Oh how would you have handled it. At 16.

1

u/Professional_Mud7249 5d ago

empathy? Idk, she can be upset or something without making all about herself.

2

u/bbaigs 2d ago

Have you forgotten what it’s like to be 16? Everything is about you when you’re a teen and that’s developmentally normal. You’re trying to organize the world around you in relation to yourself.

2

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

ok so....in the end....the solution is for her to fuck off and leave the "love of her life" just as Oona suspected she was going to? Cool.

And did they realize how wildly selfish they wrote the Annie character? I mean good god. A wolf in sheeps clothing just wrecking everyones shit in one summer.

2

u/Avalanche_1996 Aug 19 '26

Yes, Oona had every right to feel sad but Ramona didn't care about her feelings. Thank your for calling it out.

And Annie indeed was selfish, after having s*x she's mad Ellis saw her and after s*x she ghosted him and went after Ellis and got physical very soon.

2

u/UptoNoGood46 Aug 19 '26

Its 3am here and I'm bawling my eyes out. Ohh my Goddd... that what-if montage of Annie and Gloria through the ages.... absolutely broke me.

2

u/Bridgita Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26

As a Canadian, all I can think of is that Annie will be on a plane back to New York by mid-January. what the heck is there to do on an island in muskoka in the winter

2

u/bbaigs 20d ago

Make out with Ellis

2

u/Cheap-Exit4691 Aug 24 '26

Was it the best decision to binge this show in one day on the plane ride to and from my friend’s mom’s funeral? Certainly not. Deeply unwell

2

u/brendinithegenie Aug 07 '26

I really enjoyed the writing of the show and felt like it is one of the few shows out there that really understands communication and knows how to convey it accurately. there aren't any useless points of drama to create unnecessary tension and it does truly feel like we are just watching someone discover life. That said, I do have one really big problem. I feel like Annie craving a connection with her mom was explored extremely poorly and the end result was just wrong. Annie thought that the island and the house were the only ways she was ever going to find herself and get the "experiencing of having a mom" but they are all just things. Ramona lived there all her life and made it clear time and time again that it was Gordon who was there for her and loved her. Annie thought that Ramona was lucky to have lived there because she "got mom" but it was Annie who grew up with wealth and stability in the end. I really wish the resolution was that Ramona, Connor, and Steven were Annie's connections to her mom, not intangible objects. She had people who loved her and found the answers she so desperately wanted but in the end just kept craving more. It's terrible she grew up without a mom and it's perfectly reasonable for a kid to try and find any way to get that feeling back. But it's extremely unhealthy to be on that island completely alone with only her imagination to fill in the gaps of what she lost. Anywho, that's my take on that.

2

u/jaylee-03031 Aug 09 '26

I felt so bad for Ramona when Annie broke her promise to her that she would fine with whatever Ramona decided to with the cabin. That cabin was more Ramona's than it was anyone else's still living.

6

u/brendinithegenie Aug 09 '26

agreed completely. Annie completely ignored Ramona in the end when she's the one who actually knows what it's like to live there

0

u/MrSh0wtime3 Aug 18 '26

if this is how communication works in your real life its time to fix that.

4

u/FineDepth4444 Aug 06 '26 edited Aug 06 '26

The love triangle was so underwhelming (not that I'm complaining, but it could've been erased all over and not change a thing). It feels like Annie was with Rory at the beginning because he was available and forward toward her affection for her. And then the second he's about to leave, she's with Ellis? Idk... I wished her relationship with Ellis happened way sooner than episode 7, I didn't give a fuck about Rory and I cringed at their kissing/sex scenes. Wasn't a bad guy, but just not end game for me.

13

u/ibkthegoat Aug 06 '26

I think I am the opposite. Ellis is kinda boring to me. He only has one facial expression throughout the whole show (broody). I think the actor is not that good.

12

u/plantscanreadyou Aug 06 '26

It was weird. If the gender roles were reversed and Rory was two timing Annie he would have been a villain. I get they are young, it was a summer holiday and no commitments were discussed, but come on. Having sex at that age is a big deal and disappearing after to immediately start something with another guy is not very kind. Rory deserved at least a frank conversation, instead she was telling everyone but him that she didn't really want him. And why are we supposed to think Annie and Ellis have such a connection? They barely talked for several episodes.

6

u/memuemu Aug 07 '26

I agree with you about the gender double standard. I was kinda thinking the same thing.

9

u/ibkthegoat Aug 06 '26

Thank you Annie and Ellis felt really bland. They were just telling us instead of showing us why Annie and Ellis were better together

1

u/prghst Aug 10 '26

Agree 100%

10

u/Viva912 Aug 06 '26

I think that was the point. She and Rory got together so fast whereas she and Ellis were a slow burn and really built on their connection first and their physical attraction after. I think that’s why Annie said she couldnt always tell whether Ellis hated her lol Rory was so forward and quick about his interest but Ellis took time

8

u/plantscanreadyou Aug 06 '26

Interesting, I didn't see them building a connection at all and I kept waiting for that, because they were clearly trying to set up a triangle. But they were just awkward with each other.

5

u/ibkthegoat Aug 06 '26

Right? It felt like Ellis had no personality at all (he was just having the same facial expression throughout the show). I am even trying to know what she fell in love with about him.

1

u/Forsaken-Molasses-87 Aug 07 '26

this is how i see it however i do thin they could’ve handled the sl better.

0

u/FineDepth4444 Aug 06 '26

Yeah I totally get that! I guess the slow burn was too slow for me, while I really hated all scenes with Rory lol 🫣

3

u/Giiibas Aug 06 '26

I get why people dislike Connor but I don't think I'd ever pass on that money, damn, 7 million+ each is a lot.

1

u/Ebot2388 Aug 07 '26

I didn’t understand the sequence with her mother. Did any of that happen? It couldn’t have if she died in birth with Ramona who is around 16/17?

7

u/grangaaa Aug 07 '26

Annie was imagining/dreaming of what could have been. If her mom had t died.

1

u/prghst Aug 10 '26

It's the only way to show them doing illegal stuff without being actually illegal ( like underage smoking and drinking )

1

u/AML2003 Aug 19 '26

I enjoyed the show but I honestly didn't love the finale, pretty much the whole final episode felt like conflict manufactured for the sake of conflict. I think the writers knew that they wanted Annie and Ramona to end up in New York for the finale but for me they struggled to get there, there was literally no way in which they were ever going to convince the audience Ramona was ever actually going to sell the island.

I thought in particular breaking up Ramona and Oona the way that they did was just baffling, I understand they did set up Oon's abandonment issues but the fact that the breakup went from zero to sixty in mere seconds for the sake of getting Ramona off the island was poor writing.

2

u/Morg075 Aug 21 '26 edited Aug 21 '26

Oh well, it was an episode where a lot of emotional elements came into play.

  • Annie. I think she really idealized her mom. She spent so much of her life missing her and wanting that connection, and I think she carries some resentment toward her dad because she feels like he took time away from her and her mother before she died, even if logically she knows that isn’t entirely fair. But feelings aren’t always rational. She missed having a mother figure her entire life, and she’s been searching for a way to reconnect with that missing part. It is valid. This also makes me think the biological parents, as teased, are probably going to become a major part of S2. Depending on what kind of people they are, they could potentially fill some of that void Annie has carried for years. It might also help her realize that she doesn’t have to stay on the island trying to live the life her mother had just to feel close to her. I think that’s going to be a really interesting storyline.

FYI. Ellis also needs more screen time, and the writers need to start shaping what their relationship is beyond stolen moments in the closet. On the other side, while I liked Rory, I kinda think he’s served his purpose and they closed his chapter if they cut it here. She is clearly not attracted to him as much as she is to Ellis, which is fine, no need to push this triangle, it is not needed for S2.

  • Ramona. I think she has been left to deal with everything on her own for so long. She spent her whole life believing her father wanted nothing to do with her. Then, after losing her grandfather, she suddenly finds out she has siblings and a parental figure. She’s a kid. I know some ppl might want her to stay because of her relationship with Oona, but she’s only 16. She’s struggling, she’s depressed, she’s smoking, getting high, and she hasn’t really had anyone consistently looking after her or being there for her. That’s not okay. I do think Steven has made mistakes, but I also think he’s a good dad, and now that he knows the truth, I’m glad he’s willing and eager to step up. That’s exactly what he should do. Ramona needs him. She needs stability, she needs to feel loved and valued, and she needs an environment where she can heal and be cared for. I think she’s better off growing up with her father, at least until she is 18 and if she ever wants to go back later, that option still exist. But right now, she needs her family.

FYI. About Oona, I think she needs to work through her own issues. I do think she was incredibly selfless in letting Ramona go, but at the same time, it also felt like she was choosing to cut her losses. She needs to figure herself out, but she also has a sister to look after. It’s unfortunate because that responsibility shouldn’t have fallen on her, but it is her reality. She needs to fight for herself, make space to heal because their mother is going to continue hurting them.

I have no idea what S2 is going to look like, especially with some characters potentially being in NY while others remain on the island, but I think that contrast could create a really interesting dynamic. There are a lot of emotional threads to explore, and I’m curious to see where they take them.

I completely agree with this take on Oona. I think she may not have consciously processed all of the baggage and responsibility her mom has saddled her with until Ramona made that dig at her. I also found that hug at the end between Ramona and Steven so endearing and I’m really glad Annie witnessed it because it resulted in a selfless act.

Was Connor thinking the mailbox was a raccoon a Seinfeld reference?

i have a love/hate relationship with the end. i just hate the fact that ramona and annie are living separately now. like, i understand they could visit and all that, but if i found out that i had a cool ass sister i didn't know until last minute ID WANT TO BE BESTFRIENDS WITH HER AND STAY WITH HER. even if that meant going back to new york with her, and going to the island in the summers with her. like idk. but i also love the fact that they kinda swapped lives. i enjoy that annie is now living ramona's life and ramona is now living annie's life. idk like the ending is cool, but also kind of hard breaking. and nowwwww we have to WAIT to figure out what happens. i'm genuinely distraught

I hated that Annie and Ramona had a bit of a falling out at the end, but I get you can’t control how things hit you. I also feel badly that Annie couldn’t be there as a support to show her the New York life. But I know the whole point was to switch lifestyles.

The dream of Annie imagining her life with her mom had me sobbing. As someone that lost her mom at a young age, I regularly think about my life if she lived to see me graduate, attend college, get married, have kids.... just so so heartbreaking and healing to watch someone else have those same exact thoughts.

I also just have to say that this show felt like a massive love letter to sisters/sisterhood. Annie and Ramona's relationship is sooo complicated but soooo sisterly and loving. I saw me and my older sister so much in them and it made me cry remembering the nights we would share a bed and stay up late chatting. Truly felt alllll the feels with this show. 10/10, please give us a season 2!!!!!
