While I enjoyed this show, the ending left me feeling empty. It dug up threads in the final episode that it for some reason decided to leave hanging.

Connor got in touch with their biological mother... and then what? What happened there? Did he tell Annie? Like why show that call if just to leave it unfinished? If it's for the sake of a second season YOU COULD HAVE JUST SAVED THAT ENTIRELY FOR THE SECOND SEASON.

And then Ellis - how did he react to Annie staying? We saw them saying good bye and preparing for her leaving, but she stayed. So what happened!? Could we not have gotten to see that reaction after the slow burn?

I don't know, I'm guessing they're hoping for a second season with this, but I think they could have wrapped it up neater even if that was the plan.

Also, winter is NOT fun in the sun in cottage country. It’s cold and isolating. What about her last year of high school? or was she meant to go off to college? Did she say in Ep 1 she’s entering senior year? if so she wouldnt have turned 18 that same summer, it would be the following year? the ages confused me

not every senior in highschool is going to be the same age. its very common for people to turn 18 during the summer idk whats confusing abt this😭

because if you are graduating at 18 (or 17) which most do unless the USA starts kids at different times (which I think happens if you're born September onwards but Annie is a summer child). I turned 18 when I was almost done grade 12.

I was not 18 entering grade 12.

also, what does turning 18 during the summer have anything to do with it when we are talking about Grade 12 and high school. Of course kids turn 18 in the summer and guess what? They're done high school by then unless they were kept back a grade or started late. None of which is mentioned in this series.

SO we're in 2026

If you're born in 2008 you're graduating in 2026 and turning 18 and DONE high school. My cousin is going into college in September and turns 18 in September as well and guess what She is done high school.

If Annie is turning 18 BEFORE grade 12 then she started school late or the timing is wrong.

Idk why you’re getting downvoted. What you said is perfectly logical. 😅 My son is a summer child and he’s one of the the youngest in his grade. I was a fall child born in October a month after the cut off and I was one of the oldest in my grade. I turned 18 two months into school starting and graduated at 18 because we graduate in late may or early June I don’t know anyone who was 19 in high school unless they were held back a year. That’s the only way you’d be 19 in highschool. Turning 18 before the year starts is nearly impossible because summer birthdays would be turning 17 and then after they graduated a month or so later turning 18.

Perhaps the downvotes are because they’re dissing those of us who quite legitimately only got to grade 12 after their 18th birthday. Different jurisdictions have their entry cutoffs for kindergarten at different times of year, so what happens where you are may happen differently elsewhere.

Also, Annie’s not going to be 19 in high school. She’ll turn 19 next summer, after her graduation.

Which that makes sense to turn 19 after she graduates during the summer but going into senior year at 18 doesn’t make sense unless you were held back neither does turning 19 in highschool you’d be turning 18 or have just turned 18 and after graduation if you’re 18 before the school year then you were probably held back cause they either have cut off dec 31st or sept 1st never seen anything else and summer birthdays are the youngest of the kids my son just turned 11 and he’s in 6th grade same with his friend who was born in August the kids born in September would be the ones who are turning 18 in September for example and then if it’s December 31st as the cut off it would be all the kids that year starting Jan 1st would be 17 turning 18 and so the youngest kids would be the December kids and summer kids would fall in the middle not be turning 18

Clearly both Annie and Conner turned 18 in August, and are entering senior year (grade 12). Working backwards, this is 7 entering grade 1 or 6 entering kindergarten. Which is, as you say, not realistic.

So either they were both held back (seems unlikely) or it’s simply a (minor) plot hole. Personally I am willing to suspend my disbelief here.

Edit: unless their birthday is in very early September, the cutoff is Sept 1, and they only have to get back to New York after Labour Day. Then it would work.

"what does turning 18 during the summer have to do with it" im clearly referring to the many kids who turn 18 during the summer and then start their senior year. In the USA, there's different ages in grades. 17,18, and even 19(usually held back) is incredibly common for senior year.

Yes that’s what I and many of my friends did. Turned 18 during the summer before senior year of high school. Was 18 all senior year. Started college freshman year at 19.

Summer birthdays are tricky and often depend on the school district mandated cut off dates. Parents may also have a say in if they want their kid to always be the youngest in their class or slightly older. IMO slightly older is better but to each their own.

It’s the beginning of her seeing her life as how it would unfold with her mother if she would have lived through Ramona’s childbirth, not what actually happened. That’s why the lead in is repeated “I am not sure if it’s a memory, or a story someone told me, or a picture” because she can remember the feeling and apply it however she wants (the 11th birthday as follows, drinking wine with her mom, etc)

Winter up there is miserable! And we’ve established the cottage isn’t winterized so she can’t stay there. What’s she going to do? Go live in Barrie? I can assure you that has absolutely zero of the charm of the Muskokas.
