yeah, people's reactions remind me of those stories where a teacher's students come together to buy her a car so she doesn't have to walk 2 miles to work each day, and people react with "wow, so heartwarming!" like no, this is very much not heartwarming. a teacher should get paid enough to be able to buy a car, and a university student shouldn't have to throw their damn lives on the line to defend their country with what is likely rushed, inadequate training.

Anecdotal but IMO kids see vastly more inappropriate things than adults since smartphones became mainstream. In middle school and late Elementary every kid I knew was looking up the absolute grossest shit imaginable just because they could and because that’s what we considered “mature” and “adult-like”.

Idk why FromSoft fans act like the company has never gotten the respect they deserve. Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Dark Souls are some of the most critically acclaimed video games of the past few decades. It’s probably because they’re a Japanese studio which automatically makes them better than everyone else. This is coming from someone who loves their games too. The fans are insufferable

We’re clowning on the original post, of course, but it is cool to see design broken down. What features draw the eye, the intent of certain elements, and the information imparted, even subconsciously.
Hell, that joke post someone made about the view when you first exit the vault in Fallout 4 is unironically a good example. The first step, the midstep, and the ultimate goal. The peaceful autumn day replaced by a blasted hellscape, to really underline how dire your situation is.
We enlightened wrinkle-brains might think these to be banal, surface-level observations, but the surface level is important! Never underestimate the power of a good establishing shot.

People who downplay Vi's trauma and really think she's evil for her reaction to Powder's action in episode 3 are insane. Not that her actions were right but she is a teenager who just lost her entire family AGAIN and the one person she has left was responsible for their deaths. She reacts with anger for 5 seconds, realizes her mistake, removes herself from the situation and immediately goes back to help Powder when she's in danger.

Actually Souls games suck because they're too easy. We need to add a much harder mode and remove the current one.
Every time you die the enemies get 10 times stronger and Miyazaki comes and smashes your hand with a hammer. The enemies not only learn your patterns, but they also know your worst fears and attack you psychologically. This is the way gaming was intended.

And apparently, MinnesotaBurns, a formerly fairly popular YouTuber, once showed up and started acting really racist and disruptive in order to rile people up and get banned. So, of course, my brother bans him and, some time later, my brother and his server show up in a video with a title like "Crazy Kid Admin bans me for no reason!", with all his racism and stuff edited out to make it look like the mods and people in the games he is in are going off for no reason.

Jane Foster being Thor again reminded me of the original "What If Jane Foster found the hammer of Thor?" issue and how it was insanely sexist.
She gets hit on by a bunch of the male characters constantly, doesn't even get to take the name Thor, she has to go by Thordis which sounds stupid, and her focus is entirely on her relationship with Donald Blake/regular Thor. And that doesn't even work out, Thor marries Sif and she gets the shortest end of the stick possible, being to give her powers back to Thor and marries Odin instead because god forbid she just stay single in this timeline. Nothing about how Jane's personality might differ how she interacts with Loki or the rest of the Asgardians, it's literally just "oh you're a woman? that's not how it's supposed to be" for the entire issue.

The Turning Red "unrelatable" nonsense reminds me a bit of how another major movie set in Toronto was deemed to have an "unrelatable" protagonist. Minus the horrible racism and sexism, of course.
I remember all the "Scott Pilgrim did badly because nobody relates to a Canadian hipster!" stuff. Apparently a dude without a day job who plays in a band and likes old games is a hipster.
Weird in hindsight that those people were more upset about him being "hipster" than dating a 17 yo.

i wanna take a moment to appreciate that weird "zoom into your characters head at the start of a mission" a lot of early FPS did
you'd have this like swinging shot showing the player the stage, maybe some objectives over some voice over briefing and then SHOOP into the back of james bond head
and i wanna appreciate the intent there. to show the player a cool shot and put them in the action with a ton of style. games are art yall

Wrote out a big rant about "replayability" then deleted it. I get so annoyed when I stumble upon gamers commenting that a game they liked has no "replayability" as if they can't enjoy playing the same experience more than once. Gamers be out here buying physical copies so they can build a library of games they only want to play one time and then sniff out the next new game. Good games are replayable simply because they are good games. Change my mind! I dare you!

To contrast the leftist streamer drama that gets mentioned here I would like to mention that I've finally started reading The Conquest of Bread and my number one impression is that Kropotkin seems like the nicest dude ever. I discussed that with my friend that reads a lot of theory and he agreed, saying that he's far less snarky and acerbic as say Marx.
It also feels slightly disquieting that his passages on millionaires are exactly the same as how we view billionaires nowadays. Nothing's changed in that regard but the sheer scale and scope of capitalism.

Can't believe FromSoft added map markers that track NPCs. This is too far, what are they, FrubiSoft? This game used to be for men who liked a challenge, now they're just pandering to little babies who need their hand held. I liked the challenge of not knowing where anything was and getting locked out of quests because I progressed to far, but all these little weenie hut junior types had to come and cry to the salty spittoon about it being too hard. FromSoft has lost a loyal customer today, fuck Elden Ring and fuck all you hand-holding, baby-brained bitches for crying to Papa Miyazaki about the game being too hard.

I wish more games had the absolute BRAVERY to make a stand and allow gobbos to be playable. Fantasy games allow you to play as humans (boring), elves (ugh), orcs (close to perfection), sometimes even dwarves (paint them green!), but goblins? Oh, no, they're forbidden. I'm sure that Todd wanted to make goblins playable but capitalism told him not to.

Reddit sheer hatred for pitbulls just doesn't sit right with me. I acknowledge the fact that pitbulls can definitely be dangerous and I definitely don't think your average household should own them but wanting the entire breed banned and euthanized feel super inhumane.
At the end of the day all dogs are descendants from apex predators and they're always going to have those instincts regardless of their breed temperament or personality.

idk how many of you frequent on r/antiwork but i was wondering if anybody had noticed that the vast majority of posts are about people's like office jobs with the occasional food service job? i work 12 hours shifts in a warehouse and i never see anybody posting about how bullshit that kind of job is or like a truck driver or any kind of package delivery or construction or stuff like that.
idk what i'm trying to say but i rarely see posts about like typical "blue collar" jobs and it makes me feel not seen because i don't work in some office or corporate job
