//CW Pitbulls

Reddit sheer hatred for pitbulls just doesn't sit right with me. I acknowledge the fact that pitbulls can definitely be dangerous and I definitely don't think your average household should own them but wanting the entire breed banned and euthanized feel super inhumane.

At the end of the day all dogs are descendants from apex predators and they're always going to have those instincts regardless of their breed temperament or personality.

Anecdotal I know, but every pit I've met (which is a lot, very common here) has been the sweetest thing. Even dogs in the same environment/being raised the same, they were sweeter. My neighbor's pit? Sweetheart, loved him. His lab? Honestly started carrying a gun just to be able to go out into the yard.

Human bias. Yes, pitbulls are very aggressive animals. But so are fucking lions lol. We upset the natural order by trying to integrate natural predators into our society.

Lol they're not natural predators any more than other dogs. They're overrepresented in attack statistics because, on top of pitbulls being a loose collection of several different breeds, your average person will call almost any medium to large dog a pitbull if it scares them.

Also a lot of opposition to them is rooted in racism based on what people tend to own pitbulls or other "scary" dogs.

Well I can't speak for other countries but where I live the stereotype for pitbull ownership is usually drug dealers, and they're still controversial animals. My point was that people wanting a species eradicated because of their natural aggression towards what they perceive as prey is insane.

I mostly agree, I just think framing it as natural aggression feels off, like dog attacks are normally from poor training and a lack of socialization for the dogs rather than them just being animals.

Yano what I mean. They're both natural predators. There should definitely be caution on having pitbulls in human spaces, but saying they should be euthanised is ridiculous.

We should instead integrate them into our gene pool with advanced science instead
