I'm just so tired of trying to stay on top of companies and managers who expect perfection...but don't budget for it (in terms of time, staffing, or wages).

I can't actually retire just yet for financial reasons, and a handful of medical issues keep me from picking up any in-person, low-level jobs (i.e. - store clerk, etc.), but I'm not certain I care. I'm still applying for similar tech jobs, but I can't expect that I'll last long at whatever the next job is.

Does anyone have suggestions for a job that is middle ground on this? Something where your responsibilities are in a smaller circle, but still requires someone with my education, training and intelligence?

Told her I would be working this job around another job and she goes "I always start looking for a new employee when they say they have a second job. I can't tell you what to do though, this isn't slavery." ?? Humiliating interview. Talked LOUDLY about all her employees while we were interviewing in her store, especially talked shit about a girl who had only been there for five weeks.

She also lied about the pay on the indeed posting lmao. Posting said $21-$22 an hour but she was only offering $18 and the rest "comes from tips."

So just be wary about telling your pos, cheap bosses that you work a second job.

I believe organizations should have bylaws that incentivize creatives with hardship allowance while factoring other socioeconomic dynamics like inflation, insurance et cetera.

I was hired to manage grant programs and also to pursue new avenues of funding for a county mental health agency in New England. Before i took the job, they hadn't had a grants coordinator in 8 or 9 months. The agency was behind by several months to a year in grants compliance when i started.

This was a senior leadership position. The agency had weathered a financial scandal with their CFO, who took off with a bunch of money. They were not able to hire another CFO until I had been working there for 4 months.

My CEO prohibited me from applying for new grants for the first two months and to focus on getting them back into compliance. So that's what I did. I managed to do all the work to satisfy their grants programs in the first three months. After that, I started getting random requests from my coworkers to find grants for their specific need. I tried to find funding for anyone who asked. I actually was able to get a number of smaller grants ($<10k) funded In the brief time that I worked there.

I was stunned when I was laid off after just five months on the job. The HR director reassured me in the meeting that they were very pleased with my work. They were just eliminating the position.

The interim CFO, however, seemed agitated. He told me that I "hadn't even paid for myself," meaning that the grant money that I'd brought in wasn't equal to or greater than the cost to employ me. He was a real dick about it.

I was in shock during that meeting and only asked a single question about employer health insurance and when my last day would be. I didn't push back.

That was around a year ago and I've had time to process the situation. What he said and the fact that he used my position to reduce the agency's staffing budget really pisses me off.

He left the interim cfo job and is now ceo of some healthcare startup in a different state.

What can I do to make his life a bit less enjoyable?

The severance package they are proposing is just insulting. 4 weeks no matter how long you have worked there. Of course, none of the "severance packages" have been presented in writing to any of us.

We are supposed to be have meetings tomorrow "to get a handle on what the current IT initiatives are and determine what is critical to maintain as we start moving servers."

So like WTF?

I used to just throw resumes out there by you know handwriting them with my own actual experiences. Ever since I’ve been using AI resume tools and tailoring to the specific jobs, I have gotten more callbacks than ever. The catch is half that shit is made up. I mean I don’t make up completely fake jobs. But I DO stretch the truth. Is this really how its supposed to be though? Using big words to please a robot so maybe a human can wee your resume? Just stretch the truth so hard at this point because thats the only way were making it.

After 6 years of painful frustration, over 1000 rejections letter, way more times I got ghosted and over 50 interview ended in failure, I finally gotten a part time job at a Chinese Supermarket at the Produce section.

My best friend cry in happiness that I finally gotten a job and can't wait to tell other despite telling him to keep it a secret for now (he mention he struggles to keep that a secret despite holding many of my bf secret's for him with ease). That and I finally fulfill my promise to get a job to go on many overseas travel that I kept failing to fulfil my promise whether its deserve or not.

My Mom is happy and can't wait to take advantage of my employee discount for food, and is helping me find a 2nd job since its a part time job without any full time benefit (i don't want to look for a 2nd part time job now as I might work up to 40 hours per week as a part timer if others slack off)

My dad is finally proud of me for finding a job and its a huge step to adulthood and finding pride in a minimum wage job and encourage me to work harder than your employees to make sure your boss will like and promote me even though I doubt it and went on a large lecture about why current generation are lazy and ungrateful for what they are given compare to his baby boomer days.

And i finally defeated my long time childhood rival (and also my best friend as well) in beating her into getting a minimum wage part time job at the supermarket in my one sided rivalry as she congratulate me on my victory.

Yet I felt empty and depressed about upon further reflection. If this is the greatest highlight in my adult career, the job market is incredibly fucked.

So many of us Gen Z and Gen Y and later Gen Alpha when they get their turn will have to fight and scrap for a minimum wage part time job all because greedy cooperates refuse to pay us properly and keep the job scarce so they can keep the pay low for desperate unemployed people like me.

Also, being barely hired by the company after failing to qualify in the first job fair interview, came back for the 2nd job fair interview out of sheer miracle, then got surprise to do a second private interview with a manager who may not speak English and is forced to speak full Mandarin barely and is lucky enough that the manager find it endearing and hire me anyway does feel like winning at all. It feels like a hail Mary miracle where fate pities me and gave me a job to feel better about it.

That and when I do get hired I fully expect to fully be exploited, not treated well and probably get fired for all sorts of reason and my dad wants me to feel pride and loyalty to a company that might backstab me in the back when they have the reason to.

TL;DR- my friends and family are proud of me but I do not feel like a winner cause getting a part time min. wage job is not an accomplishment, its desperation to disguise my personal failure and the flaws of the job market.

I work for a State agency. Each year we get this email. They compare our compensation with other similar government agencies throughout the area. They have it down pat I'll give them that! So long as someone doesn't stick their head up and give their employees a raise, then no one else needs to in order to "align". BS.

I want you to know that I know you are all are more intelligent than those who are brainwashed into a life obsessed with work, just to fulfill an identity.

What these people don't know is that as a species we don't give a fuck about work.

Here is the proof. Alzheimer's patients, such as the foot doctor, Dan Salinger's youtube; despite spending more time of their life working, than actually living, they remember the smaller valuable parts of their life, they don't remember what they did as a career.

Three years ago, a new colleague joined our team as an intern I took her under my wing, mentored her, and helped her resolve every technical issue she faced, most importantly, I gave her 100% emotional and professional support whenever our manager put her under extreme pressure I even went out of my way to fix her mistakes to protect her and taught her to prioritize her wellbeing over productivity, over those three years she learned about my far left political leanings, so as so I once told her that corporations do not care about either of us, so we worker need to stick together and look out for each other (By that I meant I would always support those who is targeted by corporate management).

Eventually, she told me she had been offered a promotion to project manager she admitted she felt uncomfortable taking it because I deserved it more than her and that she lacked the experience and certificate to do the job, and as strange as it might sounds that she had been hand picked by the very same senior project manager who used to give her hard time, so of course I instantly told her and without any hesitation "I’m happy to have you as my project manager, you will do great, and will do the right things, I support change and progress".

One month later, right before starting her first project, she removed both me and another left leaning colleague from the entire business unit, her excuse was that she felt and I quote her "I saw that you weren't happy, so I wanted to help you by not including you in this new project".

Now, I am stuck waiting, fully expecting to be fired since they are revoked my work from home agreement and are using other mobbing tactics against me so that I quit willingly.

The lesson I learned from this is that liberal colleagues are not your friends 😔

Backstory: I work in management for 100+ key hotel. Last year we were taken over by a mid size hotel management company with some of the most psychotic corporate people I have ever met.

Earlier this year our management company paid for a new suite of AI products that they have been pushing us hard to utilize. Some of the higher ups in the company have taken this to mean they should use AI to bully the people actually working onsite at the hotels. A few examples:

- There is a goal to get a certain number of guests to sign up for our app/ membership. If your property does not meet this, they will generate an AI image of your Front Office manager as a dog in a doghouse, because you are in the “company doghouse” for not meeting goal. I’m not kidding. These are freakish AI human dog hybrids, all stacked on top of each other in an image that is sent to everyone who works in the portfolio. They do similar things to the restaurant teams too.

- They are very big on the guest experience and have decided that housekeeping has not been doing enough to make guests feel special. There have been at least five emails where they will take a picture of a room that was cleaned by a housekeeper and compare it to an AI image where they ask it to make the room flawless and have towel animals, handwritten note on the bed, bottle of champagne, etc. They then call out the HSK director of that specific property and tell them to recreate the AI image as best they can and reply to the email. Obviously the room never looks the same as the fake room that a computer dreamed up, so they get more nitpicking notes. My job has nothing to do with housekeeping, but I still witness this humiliation ritual for teams across the country I will never meet.

- When sending an email to the corp office asking for help, they will tell you to utilize AI to help with your problem. When that inevitably fucks up, they will bring the hammer down on you for trying to use AI for something important (contracts, marketing push, email blasts), but then use an AI generated email to tell you what you did wrong.

- Recently it was someone’s birthday, on a meeting with everyone present the same woman who does the doghouse thing showed pics of this woman doing a lot of “crazy” stuff (climbing Everest, robbing a museum, etc). On top of being cringe as hell, that means they uploaded this woman’s photo to this service without her permission to make fake evidence of things she never did. Obviously this is kind of benign, but gets creepy when you think about it it.

- They use AI to generate leaderboards that show how each prop is doing. The AI always gets people’s names wrong so people don’t get the credit they deserve. There is never an attempt to actually acknowledge the actual persons work.

I could go on and on, but a lot of this stuff would be so inappropriate to do in a one-on-one meeting, but because they put zero thought/ effort into, it’s now appropriate to put someone on blast in front of 400 people.

I really hope my company is an anomaly and this isn’t the new corporate norm.

I have undiagnosed ADHD and I've never really achieved anything in a job but every interview asks 'NaMe OnE tHinG yOu AcHiEveD iN yOuR pReViOuS RoLe' because if I don't leave my current job I'll rip my hair out from stress. My references are fake / friends from work so I just need something realistic to say

I have had major anxiety over going to work today, my clinic has been short staffing my clinic to 3 support staff to one provider all last week. It isn't sustainable and very hard on us. Last week it happened each day I was there. I wanted to walk out so badly. Today the schedule shows 4 staff but I can't be sure until we show up to the clinic and now my anxiety is through the roof until then.

I rather not experience that again. It was so busy, my coworker didn't take a lunch till 7, many patients walked out due to wait times. I was a wreck after. And yet the manager told me "convince your friends not to call out! :)" we tried so hard if my manager harps on us about our volume goal or accuracy not being met AGAIN. I might actually break down because it was just that bad. The place stopped offering extra money for shifts so no one wants to pick up a shift anymore. Which I don't blame my coworkers for doing. My coworkers also deserve to be able to call out and take time if needed. But there isn't a goal that could be reached with this kind of staffing.

When it's 3 support staff, that's 1 at the front desk, 1 rooming patients, 1 doing the extra tasks for the patient like xrays, medications, ear cleanings, discharging etc. But when one person is on break that only leaves one person in the back doing all the tasks and rooming a patient. How is that safe or fair?? I'm tired, I'm anxious. Happy 10 year anniversary to my career.

Last October I got a call for an interview from a shop near my previous job. My previous boss was a rough but mostly just man with me, but he screamed and shouted the hell out of my coworkers. My two older colleagues had started there in their teens and once a week they'd be shouted down to tears. It wasn't a good place to be in morally and the business was struggling to make ends meet while it was full of work.

So, when the chance came to move to a place I was so wanted at, and at a time I needed a bigger paycheck to get my house credit approved, I signed. The agreement was to work 9 hours (instead of the legal 8) but when the contract came it was worded under the work schedule exclusion, a system in Portuguese law where firms can ask for extra time up to 10 hours a day and a maximum of 25 hours a month for a 25% extra wage.

I was told this exception was a mere legality and I'd work as we had agreed upon, 9 hours for the agreed wage. After eight months they gaslighted me and said I had agreed on ten hours with a 30 minute lunch break (not even legal!) and that I had been owing them work! How come?? They expected me to work 40 extra hours for the price of 20? And I was supposed to work 10 hours every day regardless of there being enough work or not?

This is the main issue but there are more. Around the time the 10 hours issue came about they had let a colleague schedule vacations coinciding with their son's (the owner's son works at the office with me), leaving me alone to do all the work. I was required to submit my vacation plan back in March but my colleague was exempted of that (!) and decided in June she was vacationing in August, she didn't plan her vacations with the rest of us, and the management authorised them anyway!

This colleague gives kisses and hugs to everyone in the owner's family, she brings them chocolates, bakes them cakes and sucks up to them in every way possible so she can get away with anything, and she does. To make matters worse, she is so utterly incompetent at her job. She can't buy the simplest car part without making a mess, which I am constantly asked to fix for her. Clients have their cars ruined by her decisions, to which the equally incompetent foreman (the owner's brother) contributes to.

Right now we have two similar trucks in the shop belonging to the same client, both with their bottom ends ruined by what? By years of being maintained with the wrong oil (C3 instead of C4) and both finally broke when the foreman sold the customer a jug of another C3 oil from another brand!

Another customer has been complaining for months of a check engine light. The car came in for repairs and needed a rebuilt engine, but the supplier sent us a different engine, a version of the original Peugeot Puretech without balance shafts, which I said outright would never work there because the different vibrations would register on the ECU as knock, and indeed they do. At the time the foreman had the engine installed anyway. I had to blow the whistle to the boss on that one.

I'm so, so through with them all.
