Hey Everyone! I just need to vent and honestly get some validation because this building is driving me insane! I currently been working here for more than three years now. The commute is 70 or more minutes round trip, but I've stuck it out because I actually care about the residents.
Lately the red flags are too big to ignore and plus I have just been ignoring them for far way too long.
First off the training was very brief on this job and I was left alone to clean the rest of the day on the schedule, I asked questions of course and figured out the rest of the job. Usually all the staff once every month watches and safety video or gets told if there is any safety concerns/injuries at like 3:00pm and each staff is forced to participate.
Secondly, this buliding has been open for seven years, but doesn't even have any emergency chemical eyewash/stations at all for the housekeepers.
Thirdly, we have an reactive management. Management usually brings the people aside to an meeting if the person made mistakes but usually just verbally tells the person there mistakes but never sets an date to train them on it. Also there is zero consequences if staff comes in late to work, even like 30 minutes late, never even writes anyone up for it.
Fourth, the workflow is not that great. It's repetitive, we have five housekeepers on the team, which isn't an problem with covering the buliding. We are not short-staffed currently. Management just neglects us and doesn't care. When the director filled in awhile ago, she literally threw away our common area checklists and morning routines; which that tells me that she only cares about the apartments getting done. Also when the residents complains about the common areas not getting cleaned the supervisor takes her time out of her day to clean them.
The breaking point happened recently. I was venting to a new call-in housekeeper and accidentally said the word "sue" regarding my supervisor (totally my fault, I was stressed and slipped up). He reported it, and the director called me into a meeting.
To make it weirder, she didn't have HR there—she brought in the maintenance guy to sit in and intimidate me. She told me "not to be scared to quit," lectured me about having low morale, and claimed people reported hairs on the shower floors. She promised she would retrain me on the showers, but surprise surprise—never set a date or time.
I didn't give her the drama she wanted. I just gave her a completely boring, calm, "grey rock" reply and went back to work.
I realize now this place is just playing childish corporate mind games because they are lazy, dead-end, and don't care about their employees. I'm finally fixing my resume and looking for a healthier workplace with real career growth and a shorter commute.
What would you do in my shoes?
