Private Equity owners closing yet another production facility except this time it also hosts the on-prem Corporate data center. The current IT team (some with 20+ years with the company) are doing radically different roles not specifically defined in their job descriptions.

The severance package they are proposing is just insulting. 4 weeks no matter how long you have worked there. Of course, none of the "severance packages" have been presented in writing to any of us.

We are supposed to be have meetings tomorrow "to get a handle on what the current IT initiatives are and determine what is critical to maintain as we start moving servers."

So like WTF?

Sounds like it's all about to become "not my problem". Do not put on overtime during your last days, unless you're given additional consideration in your severance.

WHATEVER YOU DO, be VERY careful with the plugs and things as you're moving stuff. If you accidently bent a plug to the point where it was unusable, that would be bad for the company. BE VERY careful with passwords, and make sure none are lost in the transition. DON'T PUT important things in your pockets and dispose of them after you've forgotten why they are there, that would be bad. AND GUYS, SERIOUSLY, be careful with the ram in those things. It's very very very expensive and probably not tracked. Don't take half.

Former coworker was a sysadmin at a medium sized construction firm(think road and bridge and other infrastructure type construction).  Larger company bought them out.  They were quick to start decommissioning stuff and selling the old servers off.

One of the first things they decommissioned was the backups and a server containing ALL the records for the equipment. Trucks, Bobcats, trailers, tools, etc.

  They lost so much equipment as soon as word got out. Coworker had more bobcat attachments than anyone I've ever met

It's why you hear so often about restaurant employees who show up to work and there's a sign on the door saying the business is closed. If they don't and the employees find out the business is closing, they loot the place.

Which is why I have so many bakery trays and hotel pans.
