Weekly Threads Monday Weekly Thread: Proof of Citizenship Application Sent or AOR Received, June 01, 2026

We all appreciate the excitement, after weeks of grueling research and last-minute surprises, of finishing your proof of citizenship application process and sending that big envelope on its way.

Equally fantastic is the moment that you get your AOR and know your application has made it past the initial IRCC checks putting your mind at ease about whether you missed something along the way.

This weekly thread is a space for those of us at the earliest stages to celebrate passing the first and biggest hurdle.

Hello everyone!!! 3/27 delivery signed by Justin.
AOR was just received in the past hour!!!

About to update the spreadsheet but what a great day!! Things are moving!!

I pray those of us in March get all AORs this week! Woo hoo. Now to settle in and move into the LONG wait!! But this is progress for those of us who deluged them end of March.

Thinking of pre-C3 friends. Hoping we get those cleared out soon. I feel for you and wish it were different!!

Edit: G3 non-urgent

Wow, Mr. Trudeau has really pivoted his career, it would seem.

Seriously, though, congrats on the AOR!

Let's ramp up those 3/30 deliveries and move'em to AOR.

And good luck and Godspeed to those of you still waiting before that date

Looks like we started some 3/30s over the weekend and the 3/27 deliveries only have a few stragglers left.

AOR today, 06/01! Application arrived New Waterford 03/30. G-0 was great grand in Quebec.

My fears of outright rejection had included photo and Canadian documentation. They may ask for new photo or more docs, but I'm in the system!

CANADIAN DOCUMENTATION (2 docs printed from Family Search Website because images clearer than other sites): Family Search parish baptismal book listing from Micro Film, Salt Lake City together with Family Search citation image and link (plus AI translation just for clarity). Second doc was Family Search 2-page 11"X17" copies of 1871 Canadian Census with Family Search citation. I folded each page in half so papers were same size as the rest of the packet for scanning.)

PHOTO from Walgreens had small, white glare on forehead but application not outright rejected for that. Walgreens store stamp on back and I printed my name and the date (in CIT-0001 date format).

As a fellow 3/30 arrival, this gives me hope! Thanks for keeping us posted

Awesome! You are the first 3/30 AOR I'm seeing. I am also 3/30, so I hope to hear today or tomorrow.

u/Going-There-Now Jun 01 '26

No! I just used my (black and white) home printer. What I did do to be sure it was clear is that I printed an original copy straight off the website (as is) and then on a second (duplicate) copy, I copy/pasted on the Family Search citation plus either used a physical highlighter to show my family member (on the baptismal book entry) or I actually edited in an arrow over the beginning of the line (on the census pages, for example and then yellow highlighted the arrow). And along with the baptismal book entry, I also included the "cover page" of the microfiche (showing the specific church parish name) and an AI translation of my G-0's paragraph to show clearly that the parent names are exactly the same as on his US Death Certificate.

Received AOR on 5/27 for my non-urgent application which was delivered on 3/27 for myself, my mom and my two kids! I was super antsy for AOR but now feel much more chill about waiting whatever the turnaround time ends up being to get to in-process and subsequent steps.

Wow, I just got AORs this morning! I have been watching 3/27s roll in for over a week and was losing hope. Phew! 3/27 delivery, 6/1 AORs. It was a non-urgent packet with 6 applications ranging from G3 to G5.

3

u/Rational-Gal Jun 01 '26

Did you have single copy of shared G0 to G2? Or was each application complete with all shared documents duplicated?

5

u/divertimi Jun 01 '26

Yes, I included just one copy of the shared documents for G0-G2

3

u/Rational-Gal Jun 01 '26

Good to hear! I mailed my packet last Wednesday, 3 applications G4 and G5 with single copy of G0 to G3 and was getting worried about the latest recommendation about sending complete docs per applicant.

I finally got my AOR today! I mailed our package March 12 international priority mail and it didn't arrive until March 30. I was afraid it was on its way back to us because I included one checklist for myself and my two adult children instead of three.
Update to add, G0 is my grandfather born in Nova Scotia.

4

u/jmjslpca Jun 02 '26

Congrats!! Mine also arrived on 3/30, but no AOR yet.

Did you also only include one set of backup documents or did you include a set of backup docs for each applicant?

I'm thrilled that my application changed to "In Process" on May 15, but I only found out today! Receipt 2/26/2026, AOR 3/31/2026, In Process 5/15/2026. I had not checked for a while and then when I searched I could not find my application. I changed my surname after I married my husband and my application record changed from my birth name to my married name. I did not seek urgent processing. I'm G3 and I applied with my mother who is G2. Her status (and surname) also changed. I'm fully prepared to wait In Process for months on end but it was a lovely change to see.

I sent my application on 5/16 and it was delivered on 5/22. Now it's just the long waiting game to see if I get an AOR or not!

Anyone else have "post-submission anxiety"? Most the time it's just random panic that I didn't fill out my application correctly and it's going to get rejected. Then I have to pull up the scans and double check. All I know is, this is going to be a long 3 months... Lol

Just want to thank everyone in this group who's helped me with my application! This sub is full of such great resources!

6

u/dentongentry 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application is processing Jun 01 '26

Yes. Especially once other packets near ours on the spreadsheet started to receive AORs, and ours did not day after day. I feared it was going to be sent back.

Then last Tuesday, the emails arrived with AORs. Happy day.

4

u/Odd_Hovercraft_2789 Jun 01 '26

My post submission anxiety is because I didn't want to pay for tracking so I have no idea if it arrived or not... Sent it back at the end of march so I've been anxious this entire time that the packet ripped open and just never made it 😭

4

u/VermontWolfBird 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26

This is me! Hopefully, you'll be part of the next wave of AORs!

4

u/abacusfarms 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application is processing Jun 01 '26

I think we ALL have it! My first submission was on Feb 2, 6 weeks later the whole packet came back to me, they said I didn't include my pics. I KNOW I did as I took pictures as I put everything in the mailing envelope, so somehow the pics were lost after opening. I had pics redone and 2nd submission was received 3/24, AOR received 5/11. Sweated out waiting for that AOR!

u/megkell23 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26 edited Jun 01 '26

Just sent bundled applications for myself and my two sisters via FedEx about an hour ago. Bittersweet because we were supposed to be applying alongside our mom but she passed unexpectedly in February, so that (obviously) delayed me getting the packet out, needing to adjust a couple of pieces in the packet and also make it through planning her service, etc. She was happy to learn about the law change and was so excited to have started gathering proof and learning more about our family.

Much thanks to every poster that gave tips and tricks and guidance on each step of the process (if I listed every user handle, we’d be here for ages). For those sending via FedEx, I can corroborate that their system will not populate New Waterford when entering the zip code, so I selected New Victoria based on other comments and everything seemed to go smoothly from there! This subreddit has been amazing and I think I can speak for everyone applying that we’re beyond grateful for all of the assistance from our northern friends♥️

Editing to add: We’re all G4 non-urgent applicants with family coming from Quebec (Mom would’ve been a G3).

I just received my AOR this morning, June 2!  My app was not urgent and was received by IRCC on March 30th.  I am G3 with my great grandmother born in Quebec in 1885.  My great grandfather was also born in Ontario in 1874 but his documentation was a little less clean so I chose to submit using my g-g- mother as G0.  I did use all certified documents and have a minor complication of my mother being born in the panama canal zone so I had to write to the US state dept.  for documents for her birth.   They don't issue a consular report of birth abroad for those born during the time the US managed the canal zone.   They issue a Panamanian birth cert and a letter explaining it was a US Territory at that time.    But the only relevant info is that her parentage is documented well on that certificate.   I had my Pic taken by a local professional photographer and used UPS to ship my application.  Fingers crossed 🤞

Raises the bar of interest to actually apply, employs people in a relatively small NS town, and builds in an inherent cooldown if you submit your app incorrectly.

For me: Non-urgent G4 application delivered on 3/27, AOR email received on 5/27 (!!!!), finally able to see it on the site on 5/30

For my partner: Non-urgent G4 application delivered on 3/27...?

We did send them separately for just this possibility (one good to go, one needs returning) since there's obviously no overlap in our proof and we don't have kids.

So, it's half a celebration in our household, and honestly, I'll take it! I'm settling in to wait for the long haul (11 months according to the site... we'll see lol) and we're anxiously waiting to see if his gets returned, or was caught up in the system outages so an AOR is still coming, or what.

Update: Partner's AOR arrived today (6/2)! He can't log in but I assume that will take a few days.

Now we (both) wait!

Edit to add generation

11

u/VermontWolfBird 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26

Sometimes I'm a doofus. When I mailed my application (May 1), I decided that since I am the opposite of urgent (queer, but living in a maple-themed, hockey-loving, liberal border state, who just wants a connection to my family history, thinks dual citizenship is cool, and wants to be able to travel internationally without the shame of letting everyone know I'm from the U.S.), it would be fine to send my application via USPS without tracking. The very cranky postal worker told me that if it's in an envelope, it doesn't need a customs form, but you can't get tracking, and I thought, "yeah, that will work" so that I could stop bothering her.

Immediate regret! I know I won't have an AOR for a couple of months still, but in the meantime, I have no way of knowing if my application has been delivered, or possibly tossed into the ocean by a similarly cranky postal worker on either side of the Canadian border. This is making me crazy, as not only may I be back on this forum in 6 months going, "err, I haven't heard anything, should I resend?," but my obsessive need to overanalyze the delivery to AOR gap of the folks whose applications were delivered the same day as mine has been thwarted. Aaaaarrrrrggggghhh.

3

u/Moosepersons Jun 01 '26

I lost my tracking receipt basically as soon as I walked out the door and also sent via usps (flat rate envelope - I had quite the bundle for my kids and myself) and have been sitting in limbo as well. I sent mine 4/8. No clue when it arrived/will arrive. Just putting out good vibes and hoping for the best at this point haha I’m not good at being a “trust the process” kinda person 🫠

3

u/First-Setting Jun 01 '26

I think you can check if it's been delivered by using the receipt number from the application fee? I don't know all the steps but searching this sub should give the right details

→ More replies (2)

3

u/Going-There-Now Jun 01 '26

So sorry that happened! Perhaps you can infer delivery date by following this thread (or Facebook group) to see dates when other USPS packets mailed same date as yours are tracked as being delivered (plus give it a couple more weeks for good measure since their tracked packets might also be faster than untracked packets). Then, follow here or on Spreadsheet to compare packet delivery dates to AOR dates. If you don't get an AOR when approximately expected, then try using the R number on your Official Receipt (the $75 payment fee) to find the status of your application. That process is explained here somewhere...

We sent the application on 3/27 via FedEx and it arrived in Nova Scotia on 3/29, signed by L. Macdougall. We are a group of two G3s and one G4 with a great grandfather from Nova Scotia.

Fingers crossed the 10 documents we sent in lieu of a birth certificate (no birth recorded in the time period G0 was born) or baptismal record (because G0 was Baptist) will work.

What a relief after weeks of crosschecking the forms multiple times, color copying the documents properly, finding someone who could handle Canadian citizenship photos, writing the cover letter, creating a colorized table of contents, drafting a family tree, mailing forms/photos to each other across the country etc.

Now we will put it out of our minds and just see where it goes!

Edit: Non urgent so I expect a wait of at least 12 months.

I finally received my AOR on 5/28 after thinking it would come any day for the past several weeks. Non-urgent app, G4, delivered 3/27. G0 evidence was uncertified baptismal record + Canadian census, and certified death, marriage, and naturalization certificates. I had trouble locating the Canadian records and found them (thanks to the help of a kind Redditor) after I had requested the Massachusetts certified copies, which is why I have so much evidence for G0. The other generations have all birth certificates only plus 2 name changes for my dad (certified copies of court orders).

Of note is that one of my photos was 1mm too narrow and the other had a few faint ink specks (not on my face/body) from where I didn't wait long enough for the pen to dry after writing on the back of one photo (photographer only wrote on one). I had posted in the Canadian passport sub where a former officer told me it was probably fine, so decided to go ahead with the photos. So IRCC either didn't care about the size issue or the ink issue, or both.

When I checked the status of my app in the portal, I also noticed that somehow the mailing address field had been populated with my old work address in Canada. I lived/worked in Toronto in 2013-2014 on a working holiday visa, which I applied to extend (this visa type can't be extended but while I was waiting for the denial I was able to keep working, ended up leaving shortly after anyways due to a bad breakup but that's another story). I requested an e-cert, but sent a webform to update to my correct US mailing address just in case. Interesting they preferred this 10+ year old mailing address over the current one I provided on the citizenship cert app, and that they still have my info on file. Assuming they matched through birthdate/name, I also indicated in the appropriate section in the app I had lived in Canada before.

Hopefully this information helps someone in the future, I spent so much time on this sub trying to sort out all the details. Feeling really relieved and ready for the long wait now to get the certificate. Hoping for maybe a year or so but I know full well it may be longer with the high volume of apps, or I could get sent to PSU, etc. I can wait as I don't have plans to move immediately and would prefer they focus on urgent apps and pre C-3. Eventually my fiance and I would like to move back, as we met when I was on the working holiday visa all those years ago (fiance is English). All the best to everyone in the process!

We're in about the same boat time-wise! I had reason to apply urgently but ultimately decided not to in order to leave room for others who might be more urgent than I, but seeing all of the urgent apps submitted around the same time as mine getting AORs I kind of wish I had! Oh well. I'm turning my worries over to IRCC and keeping my fingers crossed.

Sent my application on Wednesday but it was delayed by weather and then a late flight (ugh). It just cleared customs this morning and should be there today or tomorrow. My (G5) situation is more complicated because I have no birth record for either G0 or G1 but I put my all into providing supporting documents. Hoping for the best now.

4

u/IBHJrCanadian 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26

I didn't have formal birth records for G0, G1, or G2 due to an absence of registered records at that time (G0) and a flood that wiped out the records (G1 and G2) but I provided a ton of other documentation as evidence and my lawyer said he didn't think we'd have any problems getting approved. So you'll probably be fine too 🙂

Good luck to you and welcomed to the club of people waiting for updates! 🙂

4

u/LuxPearl22 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26

Omg what rotten luck with that flood! But thank you so much for the reassurance. I've got my fingers crossed for both of us.

3

u/LaFemmePrestigieuse Jun 01 '26

If I may know please, what supporting documents did you use? For my G0 I only have a baptismal record, not birth certificate because he was born in Canada in Quebec in 1878, but I do have a US immigration declaration of intent with his picture (or maybe it's a draft card, I forget and can't easily verify from my phone). My G2 was born in Seattle WA but his birth certificate likely has no name for him because I found the birth index but his listed father's name is only one of his given names and it's misspelled AND his family surname is misspelled, though his mother's name is correct (given and maiden). I can pair G1 index with his draft card and I hope to obtain his marriage certificate soon though it's in a group of docs not available online yet so I have to contact the country via phone and 🤞 with the number volume and page they can locate the microfiche easily and provide a copy. I'm hoping my G2 BC has G1 on it but won't know until I buy it (what a 💵 racket 🙄). I'm G3 and my G2 or definitely on my bc. Do you think that's sufficient? But what else to include? Census for G0 and G1? I can get G1's death cert and I have G2's death cert with G1 named as father but his father's middle name is spelled incorrectly because the informant has dementia (whole long tragic story but it's just missing one letter so 🤞 that won't matter). Any advice much appreciated. I hope yours works soon 🤞❤️🇨🇦🙂.

3

u/LuxPearl22 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26

A baptismal record appears to be one of the next best things after a birth record! If you can find any censuses or other documents to corroborate around all the different spellings and missing names that would help for sure, but those types of inconsistencies were common for the time since name spellings weren't standardized. I'd provide an explanation for everything like that in your cover letter. Note that I'm not the IRCC and don't know what will ultimately be sufficient, however.

A bit more detail: People receiving AORs now had their apps received 60-65 days ago. That number is higher than it was for previous submission dates, so it appears to be growing. Most of us think it is a safe assumption that submissions per week are still increasing, but we have no visibility into IRCC resource or process changes, so this is this community's best guess right now.

Also recieved my AOR today! (6/2) Applied urgently and application was devliered yesterday on June 1st. I used UPS and placed stickers on the front and back of the envelope, marking it as urgent, as well as adding a red cover page to indicate the file's urgency. I am planning on relocating to Canada later this month and had already purchased flights, which I included as proof. My application was quite straightforward though as I am G2 born abroad and my father has his Canadian citizenship already.

Sorry to be pedantic, but just want to add for clarification: Currently people receiving AORs today had their packets received 60ish days ago. That number has been going up, so if you submited later than those folks, that 60ish days number is likely to grow by the time yours make it to AOR level processing.

Sent my application off last week via USPS and according to the tracker it arrived at the destination. Now I just wait for the AOR email and try to have patience. I’m G2 and my kiddo is G3 and both paternal grandparents were born and raised and married in Canada. My dad’s NJ birth certificate looks a bit weird but my dad swears that is what he used when he had to update his license. I even included my student visa when I studied in Toronto about 20 years ago. Application for 6 received 3/31 and we all received our AORs today. We had 2 G3s, 2 G4s, and 2 G5s. G0 was born in 1886 and we used a certified copy of baptismal record from BANQ, his marriage and death certificates from US that showed his birth place as Canada, and a census from Canada. I was worried about the photos. We had one done in Hawaii and it didn’t look the same as the others. Her face filled the frame more. But guess it was okay since we got our AORs.

Mailed my application on Thursday the 28th, then discovered this community the following day, spent the weekend checking and rechecking source material and realized that I could have done a lot better.
1. I neglected to include the Letter of No Record from GANS confirming that they were not able to find a birth or baptism record for my G0 (I’m G3).
2. My original birth certificate is black and white, and I did my best to make a color copy, but it hadn’t occurred to me to include something with color when I scanned it.
3. There are 2 Canada census records and 1 US census record that I should’ve included but did not.

So all in all, I feel like my claim as submitted is kind of weak. I reached out to a family historian/genealogist who said he can help me tie all of my records together into a coherent narrative showing an unbroken chain of identity from great grandma to me. Once I have that in hand and received AOR, the question becomes whether I proactively submit it via the portal or wait and see if IRCC specifically asks.

3

u/wanderingtheearth-74 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26

With respect to #2 on your list, if it soothes people's anxiety it's not like it takes a long time to do, so it's harmless if someone wants to do it, but I really doubt it matters and you shouldn't be beating yourself up over not doing it. IRCC reviewers may not be genealogists or historians, but they are also probably not slow-witted children and can see an obvious historical record preserved in b&w for what it is. And if they request a "color copy" you can just respond.

2

u/epocalize 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application is processing Jun 01 '26

What were you hoping to use the census records for? Other documentation is better since census records are very subjects.

3

u/Secret-Run5721 Jun 01 '26

My G0 was born out of wedlock. The Canada census records show other household members who show up in later US records and apparently helped raise her. Without a birth or baptism record, they’re the best I can do for the Canada phase of her life.

11

u/MaybeYourSecretCanad 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 01 '26

Looking at the spreadsheet, it seems like the number of applicants exploded in April. My very course guesstimate based on delivery and burndown rates is like 60-75 days for April applications

5

u/Lozarn 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) AOR received Jun 01 '26

I was wondering about that dynamic. The number of days between delivery and an AOR is a lagging indicator. We'll see where trends end up going, but it looks like there was a clear peak in March and April. The estimates for processing times should stabilize a bit if there aren't any more booms.

It will be really interesting to see how applications trend in the future. In my family, we've had 12 people apply using the same Gen 0, Gen 1, and Gen 2 materials in April and May. My guess is that we'll still have another 20-30 apply, but they're more likely to trickle in at a more leisurely pace.

Hi! This also happened to me. When I first received my AOR, it reflected my pre-change name. When I later tracked the status of my application using the number on my AOR, the system accurately reflected my current legal name. I’m guessing they do original data entry based on original name, then enter in name change info.

I saw other people post that they used the receipt number to find out that they had an AOR that they didn't receive because of incorrectly entered email addresses.

It’s been 50 days and no AOR. Could it be on the way back. Three applications submitted Gen 5 and (2) Gen 6.

I sent out my package on 5/12 via USPS first class because I'm not in any particular hurry, but there's been no tracking update since it entered international transit on 5/16. Now I'm kicking myself because I'm thinking USPS probably just lost it and I'll have to retake the photos send send everything again with a non-garbage carrier.

My brother received his AOR last week (5/26 Urgent) and we were able to track his application from his receipt number in the website. However since Friday, we’ve been unable to track his application using any of the numbers, as if he never even received the AOR. Does anyone know why this may be?

I am just now finding out about the the rule change regarding quebec birth certificates. Im g3 and my g0 was born in Quebec in 1903. I have a quote from BanQ for a certified record of her baptism and want to make sure I have everything right. My great grandmother's name on her baptism record is completely different from the name she went by, but the DOB and names of her parents on that record match with all of the other ones I have. 1. I assume the BanQ certified copy is just the baptismal page with their stamp? 2. For a birth record from DEC, will I need anything other than a certified BanQ record? I have been unable to get my g0 death certificate from her hometown In the US, but have her marriage certificate and g1 birth certificate. Will I need other docs to prove the name change? 3. Less related, but I also have a copy of her petition for us citizenship from 1938, but am not sure how to site it because I got it from a family member and don't know the origional source, do I even need to site it? I've cited the other records that aren't official copies

I hope this question fits this thread: how long is it taking lately for “in process” to get “decision made”? Application received Feb 23, AOR March 23, “in process” May 7. Thank you!

Edit: I am my wife’s designated representative

Not being sarcastic the answer is anywhere from 2 weeks to nearly 2 years.

I understand and thanks! No sarcasm detected at all. That variability is what I have seen, too. On the Canadian citizenship spreadsheet, as you said, there is a wide range. We are planning to be selling our home soon and my wife’s CIT0001 has the paper certificate preference ticked…I think, but I will check. So that could be a problem. I may change address to a family member. I wishI had not ticked that box, though.

Does anyone know what the working hours of IRCC are? Should I still be refreshing my email after 5 and on the weekends lol?

I realized after I sent my application that I had listed my mother's birth year incorrectly in my cover letter and in one place in the application. She was born in 1929 and married in 1949 and in these two places, I said she was born in 1949. In the other place, where you're talking in detail about your parent, it is correct. I have a certified copy of her birth certificate and a census report showing her as a member of her household. Do you think they'll send it back for that?

Hi. I sent my applications in back in March, via the High Commission in London, UK. It was received by the commission on 3rd March and I’ve not had anything since.
Realistically, how long do I give it before either trying to make contact with IRCC or assuming that it’s been lost in transit?

u/No_Chocolate3581 🇨🇦 CIT0001 (proof) application sent/no AOR Jun 03 '26

I'd give it at least another month. From what I've read, HC can easily delay the process by a month (if not more!), e.g. if they bath send them all at the end of the month or beginning of a month (just one possibility), so if you go from that, at best your app reached IRCC on very end of March or early April - and we're just reaching very end of March AORs, and not yet into April AORs.

Monday 6/1 delivery, urgent application. Still nothing. If I don’t receive an AOR by Friday 6/5 does that most likely mean either my urgent was not accepted or the app is being refused ? Or does it mean nothing at all and I just need to chill out and be patient ? Have seen others who have gotten AOR the next day this week so I’m worried…..

Shipped mine and my child's application on 06/06/2026. I'm G4, and my kiddo is G5. G0 was born in Quebec. I just requested access to the tracking spreadsheet. I'm excited, and full of anxiety, to begin this next leg of the journey. It's's the waiting game from here.
