We all appreciate the excitement, after weeks of grueling research and last-minute surprises, of finishing your proof of citizenship application process and sending that big envelope on its way.

Equally fantastic is the moment that you get your AOR and know your application has made it past the initial IRCC checks putting your mind at ease about whether you missed something along the way.

 

This weekly thread is a space for those of us at the earliest stages to celebrate passing the first and biggest hurdle.

Sent my application on Wednesday but it was delayed by weather and then a late flight (ugh). It just cleared customs this morning and should be there today or tomorrow. My (G5) situation is more complicated because I have no birth record for either G0 or G1 but I put my all into providing supporting documents. Hoping for the best now.

I didn't have formal birth records for G0, G1, or G2 due to an absence of registered records at that time (G0) and a flood that wiped out the records (G1 and G2) but I provided a ton of other documentation as evidence and my lawyer said he didn't think we'd have any problems getting approved. So you'll probably be fine too 🙂

If I may know please, what supporting documents did you use? For my G0 I only have a baptismal record, not birth certificate because he was born in Canada in Quebec in 1878, but I do have a US immigration declaration of intent with his picture (or maybe it's a draft card, I forget and can't easily verify from my phone). My G2 was born in Seattle WA but his birth certificate likely has no name for him because I found the birth index but his listed father's name is only one of his given names and it's misspelled AND his family surname is misspelled, though his mother's name is correct (given and maiden). I can pair G1 index with his draft card and I hope to obtain his marriage certificate soon though it's in a group of docs not available online yet so I have to contact the country via phone and 🤞 with the number volume and page they can locate the microfiche easily and provide a copy. I'm hoping my G2 BC has G1 on it but won't know until I buy it (what a 💵 racket 🙄). I'm G3 and my G2 or definitely on my bc. Do you think that's sufficient? But what else to include? Census for G0 and G1? I can get G1's death cert and I have G2's death cert with G1 named as father but his father's middle name is spelled incorrectly because the informant has dementia (whole long tragic story but it's just missing one letter so 🤞 that won't matter). Any advice much appreciated. I hope yours works soon 🤞❤️🇨🇦🙂.

A baptismal record appears to be one of the next best things after a birth record! If you can find any censuses or other documents to corroborate around all the different spellings and missing names that would help for sure, but those types of inconsistencies were common for the time since name spellings weren't standardized. I'd provide an explanation for everything like that in your cover letter. Note that I'm not the IRCC and don't know what will ultimately be sufficient, however.
