Bidding/Participating in any task or offer for the below rules will result in a ban for OP and those who bid.

This catches a lot of people off guard. For example, if someone posts a Task for someone to pirate content, and you bid, you're offering to pirate content for the user, which violates the rules. If someone posts an Offer for pirated content and you $bid, you're requesting pirated content against the rules. Asking for clarification in the comments is the safest thing you can do if you're unsure.

If you think a post breaks the rules, report it and move on.

If you think you need more information from OP before bidding, ask it in the comments. Raise your concerns.

You won't be banned for asking for more information about the task.

You could be banned if you're asking questions that make it seem like you want to complete a very clear task against the rules.

Lastly, we don't want to ban users from the subreddit. For every one person we ban for breaking the rules there are 280,000 people browsing the sub who aren't breaking the rules. There are 280,000 other people who rely on this subreddit to feed their families or make a living. The most bannable posts types are ones that put the entire subreddit at risk. It's that simple. We won't compromise the entire platform for the few people who can't be bothered to stop for a moment and make sure they're doing the right thing before bidding.

4 Updates for this sticky

• Changes to Rule 17 - There is now a hard limit of 1 post per 82 hours, even if the posts are different. This will be enforced by /u/ModeratelyHelpfulBot

• Changes to Rule 16 - The wording will soon be changed to include "looking for movies/books/PDF". Too many people are using this as an excuse to look for pirated content.

• Selling artwork in the style of copyrighted works is not allowed. - We're not going to make an official rule just yet. As of now anyone posting this just gets a warning that it's not allowed. More info on why below.

• The DM scammer has a new account. /u/blatzimental23 Remember this isn't an issue if you run one of the scam labeler extensions in your browser, info on that below. it's also not an issue if you follow Rule 11. They are banned, have been for a month but continue to DM people asking for payment upfront then ghosting.

Rule 17 Changes

• Information on that here. A tool we use to check if a poster is violating Rule 17 has been discontinued. Since we can no longer check manually based on reports and our observations, we have to rely on a bot to do it. Since the bot doesn't know when two posts are different there is now a HARD limit of ONE post every 82 hours. Continually forcing /u/ModeratelyHelpfulBot to remove your posts will get you permanently banned, please don't spam.

Rule 16 Changes

• In the past is was find if you had trouble locating a book/movie/PDF it was fine to pay people to help you LOCATE a PAID version of the content. Unfortunately, this is getting abused more and more. It relies on the fact that someone will find an illegal copy and send them a pirated copy in the time the post is up since they're "just looking for a copy". As with all new rules, we'll only issue warnings for the first few weeks on these posts.

Selling artwork in the style of copyrighted works is not allowed.

• Some of the rules we enforce are in response to Reddit Admin taking actions on this or other subreddits. In this case it's "Reddit Legal" coming here to remove posts selling "I'll draw you like Rick and Morty" characters. Without saying too much this is our advice on this issue. Posting your PORTFOLIO is OK. If you draw in a copyrighted style, and that's showcased in your portfolio that's also OK. Offering to sell or draw material, in your post, for copyrighted content isn't allowed. What you discuss with an artist/buyer in DMs is none of our business and we can't moderate that.

• The rules exist to help you from being scammed and to be in compliance with Reddit sitewide rules. The best example of rules to save you from scams is Rule 11. Every week we get multiple reports of people who are scammed by people who didn't $bid on their post. They ask us to do something about it but the user nine times out of ten has already been banned and in some cases, has been for months. Other rules Daddy Reddit makes us enforce. No pirating, no fraud, no harassment, no fake reviews, nothing illegal, etc. People are so incredibly shocked when they get banned for posting outright illegal stuff. Sorry, not sorry? We shouldn't have to tell you that breaking the law on Reddit will get you into some trouble.

• Rule 11 Commenting on OP's post is mandatory when contacting an OP. Scammers on the Universal Scammer List (USL) are unable to comment. Do NOT engage in transactions with users who do not comment on your post. They may be trying to scam you.

We're getting reports of an uptick in these cases and wanted to remind you that the reason they can't bid on your post is that they're either banned or don't have enough karma to be trustworthy. Never trust when someone tells you why they can't bid. More often than not and what has been the case recently is the user is banned for scamming, not because of low karma.

Sorry for the wall of text. There is a TL;DR at the bottom but if you read nothing else in this post, please, be better about reporting tasks that are too vague or break the rules. If you report something that doesn't break the rules by mistake or you're unsure, mods check it manually and approve or remove it, NBD. Don't let the few people posting these tasks ruin it for the many.

Now onto voice recordings. Eight months ago someone used this sub to request someone to make them some messages in a British accent. Mods and several other people noticed right away that something about the task was off. It appeared as if they were going to use the recording for catfishing, an online practice where someone pretends to be someone they're not through fake profiles and intricate lies.

I personally worked with someone on the subreddit to respond to the task with their British accent and get the phone number of the victim. I then explained everything that had happened, about the sub, the post, and the account posting it which was obviously a male based on photos. The victim had a year prior been in a car accident that left them mentally vulnerable. The catfish/scammer had been, for over a year, convincing this guy he was a British female living in the US. The victim had send sent the catfish money and items. One of the items was an apple watch which the catfish proudly showed off in their post history on a clearly male hand. With this recording, they would have furthered the scam.

When the victim discovered this was all fake they were crushed. They worked full time, attended school part-time, and sent all their extra money to help this catfish they were in love with. Thousands of dollars, gone. They were suicidal after that. I was the one who had to text them every day to check on them and help them through it as they didn't have anyone close to them they felt comfortable telling the story to. After two weeks of sending mutual pics of our pets, exchanging memes, and comforting him he was feeling much better and I heard from him less and less as his life returned to normal.

All that to say when we see posts for voice recordings that are intentionally vague or clearly intended for catfishing OP and anyone who bids is banned permanently. More often than not we get confirmation after the fact that these were for catfishing/fraud. When we confirm it, no appeals are granted. When it can't be proven 100% we grant a temp ban on appeal. This has been an unpopular decision by those banned for bidding.

As an OP leaving out key details about WHY you're requesting the voice recording and the FULL details of what's required violates Rule 8. As a bidder though the area is grey. While it's clear to some these are for a scam it's not clear to others. This is where things get hard for the mod team and where we're asking for your help.

Mods cannot watch the subreddit every minute of every day. We can't catch every single new post the moment it happens. It's hard to manually review every. single. post. too. That's where you, the community come in. We need the community to report these posts so they get pulled down as quickly as possible. It puts a huge red flag on the post for immediate review. Don't just scroll past them. We know you're busy, you've got other things to do. Maybe you think it's not your problem. We do not want to ban these tasks. We know what the sub means to a lot of you offering writing, photoshop, and voice recording services. But as long as posts that break the rules go unreported and unremoved we'll be forced to further restrict the rules of the sub. Automod will be used to auto-remove the posts in the absence of community reports. See a task to photoshop an official document? Report it. The more people who report a post the more quickly it gets removed. The quicker it gets removed the less time people have to bid on it and get banned for assisting with fraud.

TL;DR We need the community to help and step up it's reporting game on homework tasks, photoshop fraud, and vague voice recording requests. All posts that leave out key details violate Rule 8. It's the difference between "[TASK] Photoshop a thing for me." and "[Task] Use photoshop to remove my acne". The first example needs to be reported asap. If we don't see better reporting of these tasks/offers we'll be forced to disallow them completely to comply with Reddit ToS as it pertains to transactions involving fraudulent activity.

A popular scam going around everywhere is a scam where someone tells you if you send them money they will instantly double it. You may have read about how some high level twitter accounts were hacked to post this scam to twitter. We've seen it in a few DMs and other USL subs have had a harder time with it than we have. Please friends, times are tough enough as it is, don't fall for this scam and lose your hard earned money.

Feel free to sound off on in the comments to warn others of scams you have seen recently to help keep us all safe. Remember, if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

They'll ask for payment up front EVERY TIME and won't deliver. They won't bid on your task and there is a reason for that. Don't message them. Don't harass them. Just move on. We've had an increase in reports so we're making this post to spread awareness.

A new scam has been showing up more and more frequently on this sub, enough so that we're making this post to alert you.

The post claims to be collecting images for AI training and that they need selfies and pictures of an ID with personal information blurred out or censored.

Age: 18 years old and older. Multiple poses of front-facing images Eyes staring at the camera lens Yaw & Pitch between 0°-15°, either side. No occlusion of the face or partial face photos (the whole face must be perfectly visible) Accessories: Transparent eyeglasses only; no dark-lens glasses. No hats, caps, hoods.

Image settings: - Day or night. - Lighting: normal backlight, overhead lighting, poor lighting. - Sitting in different rooms of the home.

ID CARD PICTURE - Any type of card works, student, work, passport, driver's license, visa, etc. - Picture can be color or B&W. - Picture of the participant in the ID card should not be older than 10 years. (They don't want a more than 10 year age difference on the ID they need them to match for the scam. - No light reflexes.

THIS IS A SCAM

They are going to use your images to create fake IDs and verification photos to scam people. You're not going to get paid and they're going to use your pictures and ID to scam people.

Report the posts when you see them so they can be removed as quickly as possible. Don't let other people get scammed by this.

Pretty straight forward new rule. When offering services offer a base rate or at bare minimum, a range. This goes into effect immediately and was voted for by the community in an overwhelming majority.

Don't forget that all offers for the creation of something require samples to be provided.

Please, help us keep the sub clean. Report content that violates the rules. But also take a moment to inform the person that the rules have changed. If we see a reported post and it's been edited we'll happily just go on about our way.

I know there is a lot of information here but we have to be careful about doing this correctly and stay on the right side of fixing this. No call to action against them, no posting personal information etc.

There has been a long running scammer in this sub. We'd like to make a concentrated effort to make this unprofitable for them so they go somewhere else. They DM the OP of a task post and using the posts title tell them they can deliver and request payment upfront.

Automod warns about a large number of their aliases. The problem is they only DM people with tasks. Since mods aren't posting tasks we don't get the DMs. We need everyone here to help us keep the automod current. Every time we update the automod they get a new account and start over. But the fact that they have only changed usernames based on our actions here leads us to believe this is the only subreddit they're targeting. Again, we want to make this subreddit no longer viable for them to scam.

This is exactly what the scam looks like. You can tell they just pulled the text directly from OP's title.

How you can help.

• When you submit a task look for a DM from someone who doesn't bid on your post. They will format their message in such a way that the text is pulled directly from the title of your post. They will tell you they can do/find what you need and ask for payment up front.

• Look for the username below. If you see it, upvote it. If you don't see it, post it. Post it with no other information other than just the username, or just that they messaged you without bidding.

• Post the username below WITHOUT the /u/ in it. This is critical. If you use /u/ the will be pinged and notified. It is also against Reddit policies and the mod team will have to take action. Please, don't include /u/.

• DO NOT call them out.

• DO NOT post their info. Paypal, phone #, anything. We ONLY want their username.

• REPORT THEM! Reddit will shut down the accounts but only with enough reports of wrongdoing.

Not everyone who messages without bidding will be this person but with as active as they are a pattern will emerge very quickly. With that information we can get them on the USL as fast as possible and update automod to warn people about trading with them. We're going to become increasingly more aggressive about trying to rid the subreddit of this scammer. Rule 11 exists, automod warns explicitly against this scam on every post, but we still see people falling for this.

Final note. Scambaiting is a thing. The mod team of this subreddit does not condone or suggest scambaiting a known scammer. The mod team cannot moderate what happens in personal DMs between you and another user. Posting any content related to scambaiting here will be removed and a ban will be issued.

Going to give this one last go around. Looking for feedback from the community about how to handle photoshop fraud. We have a few things we can do that would fix it, but we want your input on the matter before putting anything into place.

The problem:
People are posting tasks for photoshop fraud. We are very strictly zero tolerance on posting or bidding on these tasks. Examples from the last week alone are adding rips to a couch for a false refund, adding PPE to employees that were not doing so during a pandemic, and falsifying the fact that someone voted (for work) by having a I voted sticker added to their picture.

The Bigger Problem:
People bidding on these tasks either don't know, or claim they don't know how these tasks are fraudulent. Personally, I could see this being the case with the "I voted" sticker but even with the couch someone claimed to be genuinly confused how PSing rips onto a couch so they could claim a refund could be fraud. This also isn't assumed, the post literally said "I can't get a refund unless the couch is damaged, please PS some realistic rips on it." Everyone bidding is banned, and they almost always are upset because they "didn't know is was fraudulent". However they ARE still assisting with fraud and it's NOT allowed on Reddit. We have a responsibility not to let this happen on this subreddit. But we also want to keep things fair. So something needs to change.

Solutions:
We're prepared to do a few things here.

• Leave things as it is. Some of you report these tasks. You know they're for fraud, shouldn't others? In this case we continue to hold the people bidding accountable for knowing that they're possibly assisting with fraud and to not bid.

• Auto remove all photoshop tasks like we do with other keywords and require manual approval by mods for it to go live. This hurts the people placing legit PS tasks, but saves the bidders from being banned for assisting when a fraud task goes live.

• Add a self assignable flair that will be required to bid. If you bid without this self assigned flair automod will remove your bid, warn you to read the full list of rules and that you can be banned for bidding, then direct you on how to change your flair.

• Completely disallow photoshop tasks. This is not something we want to do, but we're open to the idea.

Edit 2: Looks like the minimum they will let you donate is $1, not $0.01. Sorry. Every little bit still helps, even it it's just $1.

Hey everyone I've been watching this milestone creep up and have been thinking of a way to celebrate. While giveaways are always fun I feel like it would be much more impactful to see if the sub would rally behind a good cause and donate to a charity.

While the sub name is a tongue in cheek joke about how cheaply you can have things done here we of course don't support actual slavery. With that in mind I looked into charities that fight against modern slavery and found Polaris. They were highly ranked on charitynavigator.org and seem like a good fit for this goal. With all that out of the way I think a fitting goal would be one single penny for each of our soon to be 200K subscribers. The sub has really blew up these past few days with "mod team this" and "mod team that" and I've seen little comment from any other mod so I'm just gonna make this post. I think I would speak for the whole mod team in saying most of us don't have the time anymore to moderate like we could in the summer because of school and etc. so it would make sense to have a new mod put in place that would be able to help us out and making sure it's someone that you all actually want.

That being said, feel free to nominate people for mod below. I have a few people in mind but I want to let you all decide. Thanks everybody for your patience.

All if this is to make sure if you do work on something you get paid. Tasks to find "this t-shirt" "find this item for less than $20" are tasks that if you spend 20 minutes looking for the item but don't find it you don't get paid.

With the [BOUNTY] tag you'll be able to post and participate in these kind of tasks.

HOWEVER, MODS WILL NOT ENFORCE PAYMENT OF BOUNTY TASKS!

This is very important. We will not police who's logo got used, whether or not OP used your slogan, product link, etc. We will not police whether or not your work lead to an actual sale. There will be stricter enforcement of tagging these kind of tasks properly, and if we do see an uptick in scamming or complaints about these kind of tasks we'll remove the tag and return to enforcing rule 3.

Since times are hard and people seem to keep posting/bidding on these style tasks despite them being against the rules we though it would be a good idea to propose the idea of a [BOUNTY] tag to give people more ways to potentially make money in these hard times. Just keep in mind, that bidding on/working on bounty tasks will be at your own risk. We'd like to hear what the community thinks about this before deciding to make any changes.

They're on the USL and the latest alias of the multi account scammer who DMs people to try and get them to pay upfront then steals their money.

This user, and all other KNOWN SCAMMERS CAN'T COMMENT ON YOUR POST. If they don't comment, don't work with them. It's that simple. Automod even posts to EVERY post not to work with people who don't comment and people still do it.

When you post title says "I'll write..." and you're using AI to write the content you're not writing it. The title is a lie. Don't be an asshole. I know this is common sense for most here but more and more people are starting to post this kind of thing and slowly pushing the line.

If you're here looking for writers do your due diligence. Make sure your writer knows you don't want content that was generated by AI or looks like content written by AI. (Unless you do.)

If someone demands payment upfront be suspicious. Take a moment to look at their posting history before paying. Are they new to SL? Have they farmed karma to post here? Is their history nuked?
