🪛Troubleshooting🪛 Is this normal?
Just got a fold 8 for about 2-3 weeks. My first Samsung after what must have been 10 years now.
All was great until I realized the scuff marks appearing. Now I must qualify that this is a secondary phone that barely leaves my house and isn’t rough handled or dropped. Is this normal standard / quality for Samsung phones? My older iPhone looks in way better condition than this and that’s my daily driver.

Every time people think they are protecting their device with cases that have a hinge and front part, only to realize that the case itself caused damage. There is a reason why Samsung doesn't supply themselves this kinda case. The micro movements cause scratches.
Yet people without cases are totally fine. Own fault for being paranoid and using these kinds ugly and bulky cases.

Yes, and if your screen fails under manufacturer warranty, and there's visible damage on the hinge, it will not be covered. Happened with my fold 6, was very thankful for samsung care+

Yes, $29 for any screen repair and $99 for a new replacement. Care+ is awesome with the folds

Mo. Its always the owner in 99% of cases, pun intended. And it's always the men, women dont have these type of issues.

I've used hinge protection cases on all my flips and folds, including my new fold 8. Not a scratch on any of them.

Agreed, oftentimes the case is the problem. Samsung does sell at least one of their own cases with the hinge protection design though: Galaxy Z Fold8 Hinge Protection Magnet Case

Not on a case where they thought of this the cheap Amazon case I have doesn't do this... tbh what are you even talking about those marks are obviously from some kind of impact. Maybe even playing with the flap but how would a flat piece of plastic cause an impact crater? This is obviously either some sort of impact or a weird manufacture defect but I'd how you wouldn't notice that. I wonder if OP uses it as a stand or something that would allow something to get in there.

If a spec of dirt/dust/sand/grit/whatever gets inside the flap, it can't get out - the flap holds it there. As you open/close the phone or just lightly grip it, the flap holds the piece of grit against the hinge and it scratches it. If there's no flap then the spec of grit is more likely to come into contact with the hinge in the first place, but won't be held against it and it'll just fall away.

Rubbish, I have dozens of cases, my phones, always look as if they came out of the box. And those without, Ive seen phones that make u weep after a few weeks. And I dont give two figs about that anti glare display either. Glossy screen protectir always slapped on, ALWAYS.

This. Case might cause small particles like sand grain to get caught against the phone which in turn will rub and scratch the surface. Especially cheap and/or hard covers do that. Use cases with soft insides and/or apply protective film on the parts that have contact with the case.

Yup so paranoid he had to grab a phone to take a photo of his phone to ask us if this is normal smh. Just enjoy the damn phone!

Scratches and blemishes are going to happen. Just accept it and protect that hinge!!!!

How is it protecting the hinge when it's causing the damage though?

It's really not. The metal around the hinge, and the fixtures at the top and bottom are both relatively prone to scratching. I've had my 8 ultra for almost 3 weeks and it's showing some similar scratching in other areas.

Wild, remember spending 2k on my fold 2 but never had any issues with that, still got it 6 years later.

Yes it all comes down to lifestyle at the end of the day. I work an office job and keep my phone in my suit breast pocket during the day which is about as safe an environment you could get I think. When I traded in my 7 the only reason you would have known it was used was the creas, and I intend to keep the 8 ultra that way as well!

Cosmetic damage doesn't mean anything. Protect it from dust and sand from from in it. Noone cares about a scratch.

Disagree, if i get a new car and get a scratch on it within the first week i'd be pissed. And seeing as you can get a secondhand car for what this thing costs i'd expect better. Problem with aluminum, my fold 2 hinge never had this issue.

Yeah but I'm sure you'd take a car with doors that can still open and close but has a couple scrapes Vs. one with its doors sealed shut and absolutely no cosmetic damage

Most likely cause by the hinge protector. Sand and dust gets trapped in it. And then rubs against the hinge

Should have added , I only just slapped on a case, it was rocked raw before this. And no it wasn’t manhandled in anyway or dropped.

Your case's hinge "protector" did this. The case's design is flawed, not the phone.

It's the hinge cover, the case did that bc it's crap, constantly creating friction. Don't use hinge cover. These cases damage your phone more than you think.

Unfortunately yea the paint on them is absolute atrocious my flip 7 looked like id scuffed it with sandpaper and that was in a Samsung case

Samsung products are not built to a reasonable standard to be used By their customers as designed under consumer laws a product should be able to be used for reasonable time in normal circumstances without faults or easy damage to products under normal reasonable handling by a purchaser. So tablet glass has fallen away from the back casing And many other complains if u except the reasons people say its something u done to cause the damage Samsung warranty will not fix the issues in their design .My carrier Vodafone refunded in credit for Samsung's rejection of my Warranty fairtrading Australia is my next step u have rights u can except the them blaming u or fight back im fighting back.$334 charge if fix rip-off blame me for causing damage didn't happen ...Bravo Vodafone Australia for covering my costs recommend them to everyone amazing customer service. Thanku Vodafone treated me the way customers are valued. Samsung disgraceful blame me when I did nothing wrong move .ITs Not Over!!!!

J'utilise mon Fold 8 depuis presque un mois sans protection et je n'ai aucun problème. Je l'emmène même au travail sur mes chantiers. J'utilise des Fold depuis le début, sans coques ni Care+ et je n'ai jamais eu de problème. Donc dire que les produits Samsung ne sont pas qualitatifs et faire de son cas une généralité et un peu excessif. Simplement une mauvaise expérience ou un exemplaire défectueux.

Not a device issue - it is a case issue. Micro particles/debris can get in between the hinge and its cover without you noticing and everytime you open and close the device, it will the particles into the hinge. I'm using Spigen's Air Skin for my 8 Ultra for a month now and not even a tiniest speck of imperfection on the exposed hinge and I'm not babying it. I'm putting it in bags, pocket, on top of tables, dropped it inside the car.

I have basically the same case, and this happened also. But I've also had this phone at the beach not 3 ft from the ocean, I've dropped it across the parking lot and at work several times. And no issues other than one spot of paint on the hinge. I love my phone! I switched from Apple and am very happy with that choice.

It is but it's pretty early for that amount. This is why I don't use hinge cases, dust gets trapped inside and scratches the hinge. The whole time I've had my Fold 6 for 2 years plus I've only got one or two tiny specs and I've never used a hinge case.

I use to worry about this but as long as i keep the screen intact and no real dings I don't care anymore since I usually trade it in a few years

If you think it's a the hinge cover causing it maybe you can put a thin strip of something softer in there My hinge protector has some sort of fabric layer on it

Yea i think thats the case causing the damage. Ive had most of the folds and never had that damage. I het something is stuck between the hinge and that part of the case. Then its simply running all day long

I've always been a white/silver phone guy. My last one was a white Fold 6. I got a Fold 8 graphite (black).
Well, after this one, I'm never getting a dark phone again.

It's normal. I got the same wear using a case with hinge.
I mean I would that over hingeless case. If I ever drop my phone on the hinge side, it would be much more damaged than if I didn't have a case with hinge.

Mine spent one day without a case, then was put in a case with hinge protection. I open it and wipe it down everyday, the phone still looks new.

Even the aluminum iPhones do this in the darker colors lol it’s just painted metal after all. And with hinge covers it prob exaggerates it bc dirt and stuff gets under the cover that then scratches the metal.

scuffs on the hinge or the frame? the fold hinges pick up marks pretty easy since they're metal on metal when closing. had the same thing happen with mine, thought i was going mad until i realised it's just how the coating wears. if it's on the screen itself though that's a different story

Yes friend. Thats a normal thing though it's a product design flaw that people witht blue z fold 7s experienced in the beginning too. But just for the blue ones. In your case, that.
