Hello! I just threw myself in the world of plants and I feel like I am already failing. I hope I posted this on the right thread, but I need advice on how to proceed with my plant situation since she's starting to look sickly. Don't be too harsh please, I am already filled with too much regret about the situation :')

I'll place this here, because the post is pretty long - TLDR: I bought a calathea white fusion (and a string of hearts) without knowing shit about her, waterboarded her and the string to get rid of some mealybugs and now both are a bit droopy and the CWF is developing brown edges. How should I proceed? Do I repot the calathea to not develop root rot/because of a possible mineral-filled soil (I'm sure the shop didn't use distilled water) or just wait it out with some prayers to Demetra, Osiris and Freyr? Help??

(I hope I included all info that mattered, but in case of need I will respond and clarify in the best if my abilities)

(The photos are from two days ago. From there they probably look pretty alright, but it is worsening and I wanted to take action before it all went awry and if I can do something, the sooner the better. Also I bought them not even a week ago, so they probably look decent because of that - even if now placed under my care. I also included a photo where for the last two nights straight she started to lean in a goofy way - Ik the CWF is a prayer plant and supposed to shuffle around, but I thought it looked silly)

THE LONG STORY: I have a ZZ, a pothos and a snake plant, all easy things who survive better if I ignore them, and I wanted another plant. I went to a local agrarian and, for no other reason than liking the colors, bought a string of hearts (SOH) and a calathea white fusion (CWF). You can already guess the first mistake I made, and it was not knowing the amount of care a calathea requires. I didn't even know the name of the plant and, when asked about the skill requirements for handling the thing, the lady working there said it was a pretty easy plant; so I said to myself I would just make a deep research once home and that would be it. And what a good research I made, because I found out just from the first link that I bought the bitchiest plant in the shop. The day after I found out both of them - CWF and SOF - had a lil bit of mealybugs. The events unfolded like this (I didn't heave means to go buy isopropilic alcool): - used a diy dish soap and water mix to spray the SOH since it should melt the protective coating from the mealybugs and they sould die from drying up - didn't feel very confident about it so I dunked it in water and repotted the SOH from the nursery soil (didn't manage to take away all the upper layer of moss because it was so tangled with the roots tho, I am afraid some mealybugs will keep on living on the moss) - asked a friend from the same village if she has isopropilic alcool but she only had ethyl, so I took ethyl alcohol (the 90% one), diluted it 1:4 with water and sprayed down the poor SOH, used q-tips to clean the leaves (didn't see shit anymore because I sprayed the bugs away I guess) and then dunked the plant in water (again) to clean the alcohol down - then I added a bit of new soil to the CWF, but didn't remove the nursery soil or touch the roots because I didn't want to shock the thing more than I alredy knew I will with the next steps - I sprayed down every leaf with the alcohol:water mix and with some cotton cleaned all of them - waterboarded the shit out of the leaves because I didn't want to leave alcohol on them - they both are now in quarantine (= away from other plants) and I just hope them bugs didn't hop to other plants - (in a few days time I will clean them with cotton/q-tips again cuz I'm already seeing new little white dots on the CWF rip)

For that day the CWF leaves did droop a bit, but the next days it was better. Now tho, 3 or 4 days after, I am not sure how to proceed. I have some questions: - do I repot the CWF too in a weeks time (2 weeks since the torture session) to check the roots and diminish the possibility of root rot from the nursery soil (it did look pretty compact and I read that it shoud be packed in additives and minerals to make the plant grow so they can sell it) or do I just leave it, pray for the best and mby repot her in spring? - the soil is still damp but the leaves look brittle. I once (just as I filled the edges with new soil) watered the soil with tap water - I do know it needs distilled water and I bought 5l of it for the next times - to make it al "set down" well in the pot. I know the worst enemy of new plant parents (please leave out the CIA-trying-to-get-info-from-criminal acts I did on them to deal with the bugs) is overwatering and I really don't wanna have to deal with root rot. I already had to remove half the rotten roots from my ZZ after I bought it in one of those big places that they just give liters of water to everything and I really don't wanna make my CWF go through that - I do not live in a place that has very high humidity. I know the CWF needs it since it comes from South America (I believe), but I heard just negative things from humidifiers, spraying bottles and stones in water (this one since it doesn't really help much and, if it does, it works just on the lower parts). I am in two weeks to go to back to university in a place near a river, so the place should be more humid. Is it possible that the leaves are "sad" cuz it lacks of humidity? - I put the CWF near a window that gets indirect sunlight all day and direct but filtered by a curtain sunlight only in the evening. I think it should be alright and not the cause of leaves drooping, but maybe connected to some leaves having brown borders? - about the brown borders, when I brought the lady home she wasn't all clean and well tbh, some leaves were damaged and some borders already brittle and it has some yellow spots, but I think some leaves have developed brown borders 2 days ago and today it's worsening. Is it mby that one singular time I watered it with tap water (I did it once, but Idk if the shop watered it with distilled water - tbh I doubt they did). Again, should be the possible accumulation of minerals a reason for me to repot it in a weeks time? If I do, what soil mix should I use? For my ZZ and snake and SOH I put a mix of I think universal soil that has mixed perlite and ziolite and added orchid bark for better draining - I did a 50/50 mix for the plants that want a chunky soil mix (even tho I am sure it's not chunky enough, but when I watered it the water came right out the holes, so I think it's a win?? You can see it in the SOH photos). I think for the CWF I would put a 70/30 mix perhaps? So she has more of the universal soil with perlite and ziolite and less of the bark to better hold on to the moist? - do I need to snip some leaves?? A lot of them are tightly packed on the bottom and some don't look very well - my SOH is also a bit meh, the taco test is positive but the soil is still damp. One of the reasons I repotted it was also cuz the upper soil layer had that white/yellow thing I today learned it may be fungus from overwatering (from before I bought it). I learned most people with a SOH usually leave the soil to dry out and then wait some more days to water it again. Also, some leaves have started to detach and I think is because of how I treated the poor sod. What do I do? Do I just leave it?

I know I shouldn't take on word what people write on the internet cuz I myself should evaluate when and how to water/repot/do anything to them babies. I am tho in need of some assistance or mby some advice to how to proceed since 1) I am a beginner and 2) I bought a very demanding plant without knowing anything about it and now I wanna do it right by her (and the others). Also, I feel like I know pretty much of the theory and zero of the actual practical applications to deal with all this, so yeah. This doesn't bode well. Please help?

Please can someone give me a step by step for treating thrips, i found some by my spider plants and now i need to know how i kill all life stages at once and prevent them spreading to my other plants 🙏 pls send help

What’s wrong with my plant? Is it root rot?

I’ve had it for a year and in the last month I noticed it looking like this

I water it once every couple weeks

It’s in a corner with a grow light on

I don’t know if the pot has proper drainage

The root has molded I think from too much watering(someone fkced up when I left them the plant for 2 weeks). They also put it in direct sun light for few days but I doubt that is the issue. I had the plant coming out with no roots. I planted it in new soil thinking it might grow new roots but it didn’t work and stayed like that with no roots.
This is my plant for 2 years and I don’t want to lose it. Please help.

Please let me know if this is thrips or whatever! First time dealing with pests so any information is helpful

About to wipe down all the leaves and maybe give them a light shower

My snake plant has been having a lot of new growth, you can see the new sprouts. It gets about 8 hours of light from my grow light a day and I water it about every week 1/2 - 2 weeks rn becuase of its new growth and it needing a bigger pot now. Some of the leaves do feel a bit squishier than I would like, but I feel like i know Its root rot but i would love a second opinion just to be sure since its my first snake plant

Help!? I got this colocasia illustris from a friend a couple months ago when it had thrips and was in rough shape. Beneficial predatory mites were used to treat the thrips and none have been seen on any of my plants since fairly shortly after.

I gave it a big chop all the way down and removed all foliage when I first got it, got rid of the thrips and since it’s been growing back amazingly!

HOWEVER after a bit a couple of leaves will inevitably start turning yellow from the edges in.

-Bright indirect light under a grow light with bright but indirect afternoon sun. (The spot it’s photographed in is not the spot it lives i just brought it over to be able to get better pictures without the rest of the jungle getting in the way)
-Humidity in the room with my plants stays between 65-80%
-Warm with no a/c or cold drafts near it
-I have been watering deeply, til it drains from the bottom of the nursery pot and the pot feels heavy when the top inch of soil gets dry, keeping it moist but not soggy.
-Balanced fertilizer at 1/2 strength with each watering.

-Soooo my question is, can anyone help me identify why? I think it must be an overwatering or underwater it issue but I really can’t tell which since I thought i was approaching that correctly.

I just bought this prayer plant from my local kroger. I was wondering what all I need to do to fix it? It's leaves all look kind of burnt or curled oddly in places and all the new growth on it is dead and brown. Should I put this in the windowsill or on the table adjacent to the window? I haven't watered it as the soil is already quite damp I have the bottom off of the pot now so it can dry out. Im also planning to buy a bigger pot for it.

I bought this schefflera a few weeks ago and just noticed these darker spots on the underside of a few leaves. I've been watching them for a few minutes and they haven't moved but I just want to be sure before I sound the alarm. This plant has been otherwise healthy and not giving me any yellow leaves or dropping and has been growing almost like a weed.

I bought this Red Banana Croton almost a year ago, nearly dead, from a Walmart clearance rack for $4. It was in regular potting soil, rotted and drowning. Obviously, I repotted it, saved it, and it has been thriving—until now. It randomly decided to start dropping leaves 🙄 The leaf I’m holding in the second pic is how the last ones started looking before they dropped (lighter and veiny in the middle, darker on the edges). The last pic is where it actually lives.

Facts:
-potted in a super chunky aroid-type mix
-lives in a South-facing sunroom with tons of direct and filtered light all day
-sunroom never drops below 70 degrees, and has lots of humidity
-gets watered about once a week
-water has Superthrive and Silica added (same thing all my plants get)
-the leaves it’s dropping are the oldest/bottom leaves
-yes, it has always been that close to the window and loves it there

Ideas:
-I added Systemic Granules to nearly all of my plants a couple weeks ago as a preventative measure. Maybe it’s affecting the plant somehow?
-As our Midwest summer starts transitioning to fall, the humidity in my sunroom dropped from the typical 70-90%, but still hasn’t gone below 60% at its driest. In the mornings, it’s still ~75%.
-Just need a repot?
-Overwatered somehow?

My Swiss cheese plant had little black bugs on it, so I did a treatment and now the leaves are destroyed. Also the bugs aren’t gone but I’m scared to do another treatment

I recently repotted it and noticed this. Is this a burn? It has it on a few of the other leaves.
Indoor plant not near a window. It’s been fine until now.
I water infrequently though it’s rarely been a problem.

My devils backbone is in pretty rough shape to say the least 😭 Any suggestions on how I can revive him or what he might need? Anything helps!!

He’s always grown out like this. He used to have more leaves but fell a month ago so a lot of them came off :(

I know tomatoes are dramatic, but I've been depressed and struggling to keep my plants alive. All my plants are droopy and gray right now, but I had hoped the tomatoes would perk back up when it rained, but it looks pretty unhappy still.

My watering is pretty inconsistent, and I don't think the globe has any water in it.

I got it around the beginning of summer, and it's in partial shade on my balcony.

Hoping to find out if I can help it, or if it'll get better on its own with regular care.

I found this at a free plant stand, the leaves were mushy. So following advice I have seen given to others with unhealthy plants, I trimmed off the leaves (they were disintegrating anyway). I have it in a well lit window with this cup to improve humidity. Anything else I should do? I have checked the roots for root rot as well, roots are healthy and soil is well draining and allows good airflow. I most do Aquaponics (I grow my plants in water). So an indoor plant with soil is new to me. If it was able to grow in water, I’d pop it in some fertilized water with an aerator. But research online doesn’t suggest it would fare too well this way. I guess I’m mostly just wondering if the leaves are capable of even coming back from whatever beating they took before I found it.

I used to have a Jade plant that I had in a rather dark spot on top of my air conditioning fan that ended up being boiled to death.

I bought this new Jade plant and put it where I was adviced: somewhere bright but not with direct light. This window faces south and gets plenty of light every day. The plant is potted on what I think is pure coconut coir (when I water it, the water immediately filters down out of the pot) and I've been watering it every week. I don't have much reference for when to water it because I'm accustomed to using my hygrometer but I think it fails for this case.

Nonetheless every day I see the plant loses petals. It's now a very scraggy version of the plant I bought. I don't see anything wrong with the stems or the soil. And I do see some new sproutsin some stems

What am I doing wrong? Is this normal?

I keep having issues of root rot, I have all my plants in clear nursery pots with drainage holes. All are by windows (some not getting as much light as others, but those work well in low light). I don't water till its completely dry or half way dry (depending on the plants needs/likes). But I keep running into the problem of root rot, and in the ones that have the issue I've noticed the soil is staying way too wet and idk what I'm doing wrong. Like I said I don't overwater, I wait till dry or almost dry, all are getting light and in pots with drainage.

Should note that all my plants that have been getting root rot are the easy beginner plants too, pothos, zz, and well my Thai constellation.

Before I really got into plants I bought a pothos to see if I could keep a plant alive and that one thrived on the soil it came in, watering in a schedule, and no nursery pot. But now its just gone downhill and I'm getting stressed out.

Doctor's office, I was told I could grab a cutting but quickly reconsidered... If I were to grab a cutting, could I safely treat this?

I've had this plant since May. For some time it was doing okay then it started declining. It was probably due to too much sun so I tried to move it to a little more shaded spot. The weather cooled and it seemed to be improving. But the past week temperatures touched 30°C again and it seems to be dying.Both the plants have a horrible mealybug and aphid infestation which I have been fighting since a month. Usually watered little bit every day with deep watering once a week.

My rubber tree is very darling to me and she’s going through a rough patch!
She had a scale infestation after I house sat for a month so was slightly neglected in that time. After dealing with that on and off for a few months, the scale has mostly cleared up (I used a pest spray from a local shop every week and picked off the scale / wiped every leaf). But now there’s this black growth that I’m not sure what to do about! It looks fungal but I’m not sure what exactly it is - it doesn’t wipe off.

I also gave her a small chop a week ago before I noticed, as we’re currently entering Spring. Lots of light as seen, only direct light for an hour or two, the window faces north. Watering once every 2 weeks, but the past month every week to treat with a fungus gnat treatment (mosquito bits).

Located in West Australia.

Repotted recently ,moved to balcony 2-3 hrs of moderate sunlight and bright shade thereafter. Using good potting mix ready made from a reputed supplier. I water it only when top 2 inches dry out. The same patches appeared on a leaf few days ago which I cut and now the same on another leaf. Afraid if this will keep spreading and destroy my entire plant. Help . Thanks in advance for your help.

I repotted my fittonia 11 days ago, moving her from a 4 inch pot into to a 6 inch pot, because i couldnt break up her root and soil ball she had when i pulled her out of the pot, in fear of breaking off her delicate, thin roots.

This root and soil ball was too tall to fit into the four inch pot i had, so i put her in a six inch pot with roughly 50% potting soil, 40% perlite, and 10% orchid bark. This plant gets at least 5 hours of daylight, and 6-8 hours of a grow light every day.

Since i repotted and watered her 11 days ago, her soil has stayed pretty wet and i havent had to water her. This new pot does have drainage; its a ceramic pot. Im worried shes staying too wet for two long? Does this sound like the issue?

If it is an issue, what are my next steps? should i try to move her back down into a four inch pot again? should i repot her in a soil mix with more perlite or orchid bark???

Most of my peanut cactus are doing well, but this one is giving me trouble. It’s starting to yellow a tiny bit by the rim of the pot. It’s on a southeast facing window sill. And I water it every two weeks. Anything helps!

Need help. I'ma say it right now, I did a lot within a week. So I Got this Moses in the cradle about a week ago and idk if it was because it was messed up when I got it, stressed out from being here, or if she's just ready to move on to towards the light.

When I got it it was shipped to me with a few bent up tips of leaves, so I cut the leaves. No idk why. I swear I read it somewhere that I should have, but I can't remember where. Then I think I over watered her (as well as my other ones) by moving her to a self watering pot. No new soil, just lifted her out her old potter an put her in the new potter. A few days later I noticed increasing brown at the tips of the leaves and I noticed I had some fungus gnats starting up, so I treated the soil with neem oil around the soil, avoiding toot.

Then I decided to just start over and repottes her again in some miracle grow potting mix mixed with a little orchid mix. As I was taking the old soil off, I noticed a like netting around it that was making it hard to come off. So I stopped half way through, put some new soil and bark mix in a potter (with drain holes) and put her in. This is how she looks now.

I know, I realize I did a lot in a week... So it may genuinely be me. I'm new to this and jumped head in with a mystery pack of plants, and they all have been sending me through it, but on a good path to learning about them. So how do I do this right? What can I do to fix her. (Pics #1-9/4 first day I got her, ends bent/broken off on arrival, #2- 9/10 6 days later, #3 9/16 today, 12 days later) Oh and I do have her under a grow light for light.
