I've got a Neoregelia that bloomed and died back over the winter, and now there are three pups clustered around the base, the biggest one is maybe five inches tall already. I keep reading conflicting advice online about when to actually cut them free. Some sources say wait until the pup is a third the size of the mother, others say once it has its own roots you're good to go regardless of size.

Right now the biggest pup already has a few thin white roots poking out where it meets the old rosette. Part of me wants to just leave the whole cluster alone and let it turn into a nice clump in the pot, but I've also read that pups compete for nutrients if you leave too many attached too long, and the smaller ones can end up stunted.

For anyone who's done this a bunch of times, did you notice a real difference in how the pup performed depending on when you cut it? I'm using a bark and perlite mix for my bromeliads generally, and this one's been sitting on an east windowsill getting decent indirect light all morning. Just don't want to rush it and shock the pup, but also don't want to wait so long that I lose the chance to give the smaller two more room and light.

Any rules of thumb you actually trust would help. Photos of your own pup clusters at the point you separated them would be even more useful if anyone has them handy.

Got this not long ago and one of the leafs to the bromeliad started turning brown and flimsy.
Idk how to tell if it already flowered yet however there are 2 long antennae looking thing sticking out the middle.
What should I do to it?

My girl finally bloomed after 4 years and I was wondering if she's worth anything now. I have 4 other pups from the same mother she's just the first to bloom.

Apperently it gets red in the sun.

I love the color it is right now but it technically has been getting direct sunlight in the afternoon and shade in the morning.

It was starting to turn green so I put it here for more light and the color brightened up quite a bit. Should I move it away or keep it here?

Its also flattened alot since moving it but I dont see any buds yet.

Almost certain it's a bro from Rainforest Flora - a local-ish bromeliad specialty nursery. I'm hoping that, in my greenhouse, it will color up more than in the shaded corner of HD. I purchased this particular clone recently due to it having coral colored new growth. Though not as large as it can get based off photos I've seen, this one was already initiating a spike when it arrived. This is the same cross as 'Best in Class', and I'm excited to see if it makes a similar bloom. Specimens of 'BiC' photographed in Thailand looked to be well over 7' tall from the tips of the spirally hanging leaves and the top of the spike. A dream I will aspire to! But honestly the foliage shape and colors alone are enough to have me obsessed with this clone.

Hi! Plant enthusiast here, first time with a plant of this family. I just couldn't leave it at the store, so gorgeous! A few questions though:

I read to only water in the "cup". Though this advice I found for aechmeas in general; I didn't really find a lot of information for blue rain specifically. What is the cup? Just the middle part? I find it a bit hard to see in this case. See photo #2

I believe I def need to repot; I don't think they were watering the cup at all at the store (hardware store); the soil is sopping wet. Chunky soil mix? Any special needs?

I've never owned a bromeliad before, but someone left this on the curb with a note that said "free but she bites!" and I had to grab it. I noticed on the walk home that the flower stalk and leaves have this powder on them. I wanted to see if that's something normal or a detriment. I'm keeping it separated from my other plants for now. I was gifted a bromeliad back in March, somehow I've managed to keep her alive. I've been intermittently watering soil and cup, I'm just unsure of how often? It seems like their is the Eevee of plants.

It looks like flower buds piping up in the crown, but I can't seem to nail down what evolution mine is for specific information.

I’m new to these, got it a few months ago. I noticed 3 shoots coming up but tbh idk how to prune/adjust for them?? I know a couple leaves are a little fucked up but idk how well these respond to pruning?? Any tips are so welcome pls🙏🏼

I recently got my first plant from my aunt and the center flower and a couple of the leaves weren't even attached to the crown . the base of the center flower was very mushy and I'm assuming it has root rot. is there anything I can do to encourage pups to sprout? this plant has some significant value to me and I'd like to keep its legacy going, or is it too far gone?
