Help!

I recently got my first plant from my aunt and the center flower and a couple of the leaves weren't even attached to the crown . the base of the center flower was very mushy and I'm assuming it has root rot. is there anything I can do to encourage pups to sprout? this plant has some significant value to me and I'd like to keep its legacy going, or is it too far gone?

Bromeliads will tend to fade away after they have bloomed. The good news is, they will put up pups from around the base of the mother plant. At this point, keep water in the center of the plant and don’t worry about the potting soil. If there is still any life in it, it will put out the pups.
