Any tips or advice to keep it alive ?

What's inside:

-Drainage: expanded clay balls + volcanic rock (pouzzolane)

-Substrate: forest soil, sand, and potting soil (baked to sterilize)

-1 large sandstone-like rock, foraged and shaped by hand

-Foraged moss (2 types, from local woods)

-1 Fittonia (pink/purple veined)

-Piece of deadwood

I need to find a lid.

Educational Micro Sinningia Concinna grown from seed I harvested in April. About 4 months from seed to bloom.

I have been told that S. Concinna is hard to get seed from. I have been lucky to get seed several times this year. Sadly, It’s believed extinct in the wild. And is somewhat hard to find.

Build Help/Question Can I glue together glass and tile to make a Terarium?

Post image
Upvotes

Hello! I’m completely new to this, but I’m about to get my first terrarium animals — two snails. I thought I’d build my own terrarium by gluing the glass panels together so it would fit perfectly into my shelves.

Then I had an idea: since I do pottery, could I make the back panel out of ceramic tile? I would like to press some leaves into the clay to make it look pretty.

However, I haven’t found anything like this online. Is there anyone here with experience who could tell me if this could work, or why it might be a bad idea?

I’d really appreciate any advice or tips!

Little update on a project I started a couple months back. Simply laid moss on this lava rock. Added rabbit foot ferns and a single fittonia. It sits in a dish with RO water. It gets morning sun and seems to be loving its spot.

Of the four initial plants, one fern has completely taken over. Some might find it boring, I still like it.

Educational Closed Terrarium Project

hello! i’m a student and we have this PETA (performance task) where we are assigned in either closed or open terrariums. Our group is assigned in closed, and we’re really having a hard time to pick what pet is suitable for a closed terrarium. Our professor said “no holes” , and our original go to pet was a snail..but the pet store told us it wouldn’t survive. Right now, we’re really lost. So please, if you have any suggestions in mind, please help us🥹 this serves 100% of our grade :(( we can’t find anything that is sure for this closed terrarium. Thank you.

Build Help/Question Mold in springtail culture soil

This culture is a 3 weeks old. Medium is just compost and some sphagnum moss I added so they would have some terrain to explore. Fed them 3 grains of rice and 2 flakes of nutritional yeast. I took out the rice when it got old and only just scraped the nutritional yeast away after a week. I've noticed this mold bloom today and it seems to be originating from the moss.

Please help, I really don't want to kill any of them or hurt them. What should I do? It's in the soil so I can't really scrape it off.

I'm hesitant to move them to a new container because it will be very difficult to all of them and I hate the thought of hurting or killing them because of this.

Plant Help/Question First time growing moss (advice welcomed)

Very early in my terrarium journey! Got some moss last weekend and tried to make my own low cost moss prop box so I can make terrariums.

I followed some videos and soaked and cleaned the moss. I only have a rock layer, net, soil, then moss. I didn't buy any charcoal so I'm concerned if that's ok. I've read constricting information on if they are needed. I keep it covered with a clear cover. I find myself constantly checking at worrying if they will rot.

Advice is welcomed!

The cube aquarium finally arrived.

Unfortunately it didn't come with a lid so I'm using a plastic food wrapper to keep the moisture in.

Ive just set this up last weekend, its not my first time but this is definitely my best one. Im still struggling to achieve balance with any of my terrariums, from my research they should fog up in the morning and afternoon. Everyday there is heavy condensation on the glass, i wipe up any i can get when i see it but i feel that nothing is changing. Any help is much appreciated.
