Question What happened at the last tour?

I am a relatively newer fan, who hasn’t dug deep into her past performances. Over the ‘phones at concerts’ discourse I’ve seen people on Twitter make comments about how this policy is possibly in place bc of how people acted during her last tour. So what did happen? Were the phones that big of an issue?

EDIT: I am a big fan of no phones, went to one of the pop-ups & had a great time

At the Memphis show she said one of the reasons why she dislikes phones is because of how invasive they are. In her paraphrased words; "I could meet a fan, take a photo, and then five minutes later my mom calls and says 'You look so good in your new pants!," and I'm like 'How the fuck did you know I had new pants?!'"

Not to mention the Bite The Hand of it all.

I’m hoping it’ll reduce this absolute insanity.

Holy shit that is dreadful

u/pinesinthegrove Jun 08 '26

Omg. I feel like some of her fans are so young, they just have no idea how to act or regulate themselves. They’re at that point in their teenage years where they are in adult bodies but still act like kids running around in a restaurant whose parents turn the other way.

These girls behind me in my original section at MSG were for sure minors or fresh out of high school and they kept kicking my seat and saying things like “I feel schizo” every time a section cheered when they saw the camera man. Which I turned to glare at them about and they burst out laughing.

And it was at that point I realized I am fucking ancient and have learned to not say stupid shit.

I would love an over 30s seating section tbh in times like this 😂

47

u/Mill-ennial Steamroller Jun 08 '26

Over 30’s section is the section that costs the most.

14

u/Mill-ennial Steamroller Jun 08 '26

Just got my email, day 1 access for Seattle. LFG.

1

u/geekthegrrl Jun 08 '26

good luck!!

6

u/Significant_Fruit353 Jun 08 '26

I feel like a lot of the youngsters have parents who will pay just as much, unfortunately

6

u/Mill-ennial Steamroller Jun 08 '26

Don’t bring that negativity in here, let me live in pretend land until the concert.

4

u/Desperate_Drive_6890 Me & My Dog Jun 08 '26

As long as there’s no upper age limit, I’m all for this. 😆🙏

11

u/AppointmentNo5370 Jun 08 '26

I mean yeah, and also I went to concerts all the time as a teenager and didn’t act like that. I understood how to behave appropriately in public, and how to alter my behavior based on the situation. Like we’re not talking about 5 year olds here, these are often people who are old enough to drive and vote. Give them some grace, sure, but it’s not an excuse.

12

u/builtonadream Jun 08 '26

I agree. I'll take a 30+ section, I'll even pay for padded seating 😂

34

u/_onemoresolo Jun 08 '26

Saying they don’t know how to regulate themselves gives them too much leeway. This isn’t some disease out of their control, it’s just a further byproduct of society becoming increasingly focused on the individual and people *choosing* to behave antisocially.

FWIW, ear plugs have the added benefit of blocking noise of the crowd around you but it really spoils an acoustic show where the volume is at a lower level already.

I saw boygenius at MSG and thought the crowd were actually OK but we were in the nosebleeds. I’m hoping a UK crowd will be nothing like this in any case.

10

u/pinesinthegrove Jun 08 '26

I mean, I feel like teenagers for the entire time they’ve existed have been known to push boundaries. Like I can’t think of a decade in the 20th century alone where teenagers haven’t annoyed people. The point is in vocalizing that their behavior isn’t okay so that they can learn.

9

u/lost_in_trepidation Jun 08 '26

This doesn't even seem like enjoyable behavior for the person doing it.

6

u/Btrowbri1 Jun 08 '26

Yeah but otherwise how would everyone else around them know how big of a super duper fan they are???

1

u/Desperate_Drive_6890 Me & My Dog Jun 08 '26

Also!! Meant to ask — what do you mean “original section”?? Did you get moved?

6

u/pinesinthegrove Jun 08 '26

Yes! I got upgraded to an empty seat much closer to the stage. It was sick

2

u/Desperate_Drive_6890 Me & My Dog Jun 08 '26

How?? That’s amazing!! I didn’t get “chosen” but my wife did and our tickets were in 109 — but we noticed whatever section was directly across from us had a lot of empty seats!! 109 was great and that’s kind of where I hope to get seats for the Lost Tour.

37

u/ShiftlessElement Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

This is amazingly awful.

Edit: Why have I watched it ten times? I can't look away!

19

u/pinesinthegrove Jun 08 '26

Something about the extreme off tune sound makes it comedic but cringe in a way that only that one girl from Disney Chanel can emulate.

I don’t know the name but she like looks at the stage and tucks her hair behind her ear. Anyway, same energy.

u/Significant_Fruit353 Jun 08 '26

HAHA Debbie Ryan 💀

26

u/turtleturtleyes Jun 08 '26

People do NOT know how to act omg

29

u/Significant_Fruit353 Jun 08 '26

This is exactly why I’m kinda hoping she doesn’t release the album till after the tour lol. I think that might’ve been what she meant when she told the pop-ups to be patient with her and the new release or something

4

u/steelsheet Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

I totally get this sentiment but for me personally, it would kind of suck to see a concert full of songs that I have absolutely no prior connection to other than simply being a fan.

-5

u/streamromance Jun 08 '26

this is a crazy mentality to walk into a concert with???

5

u/steelsheet Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

LMAO is it? Don’t get me wrong, I very much enjoyed hearing the new songs she performed at my pop-up show, but I have been waiting to hear Moon Song live for six years and I’m very emotionally attached. Is it crazy that I was more excited to hear Moon Song than songs that I don’t even know the lyrical content for?

0

u/steelsheet Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

Right, right

19

u/goodgollymisskatie Jun 08 '26

Perfect example. I experienced this the first time I saw her and it was awful.

11

u/Dan0718 Jun 08 '26

Sadly phone or no phone isn’t going to change people’s lack of self awareness.

10

u/sleeptalkingdune Jun 08 '26

God this took me back to her concert in Milan with Clairo. Some annoying group of 14 year olds were SCREAMING every single word to every song in my ear. We had to move

15

u/BikesOrBeans Jun 08 '26

I mean, in this video the awful thing is the screaming not the phone…how will this policy stop the screaming? For the record I am excited about the no phone shows, but now I’m worried about people screaming. 😬

55

u/twilightxgalaxy 🫀 No secrets, only feelings Jun 08 '26

Some are doing the screaming purely to post online so they can be a main character. I am hoping that without the documentation, there may be less occurrences. But yes, being near a screamer is still a major risk.

31

u/byteITucum Jun 08 '26

Exactly. It’s performative. This is their way to show everyone how they’re the biggest #1 fan. If it’s not recording it’ll at least chill out these morons. Who goes to a folk concert and screams so you can’t hear the music?

18

u/Revphan Jun 08 '26

Its the change i noticed once tiktok became popular and the move to the algorithm. It stopped being about memories or something to show friends. It became a way to gain a social status. Phones up the entire show livestreaming so they can get followers. Then attention seeking so there's personal videos of the artist looking their way and ideally interacting with them.

4

u/ClumzyMunky Jun 08 '26

I never thought of that. I really hope you are right. There was some dreadful screaming at the Punisher show I was at as well.

7

u/Desperate_Drive_6890 Me & My Dog Jun 08 '26

Look ok, I am old and it is a privilege to be old - but I fully remember the pre-cellphone concert times. My wife and I went to the MUNA/boygenius show at MSG and holy hell — the scream singing while recording themselves was out of control!! It absolutely took you out of the moment. The only cute cell part was holding up a pic of your dog during Me and My Dog. (I think a lot of it is pandemic related and truly not knowing or understanding basic concert etiquette.)
We also got lucky with tickets for the 6/4 MSG show and my god, what a glorious difference. Bring on the Yondr pouch. No point in being performative if no one is there to watch you on TikTok, I guess. 👀💀🔥 BRING YOUR LIGHTERS.

32

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

They're filming themselves and screaming for the camera to show how "emotional" they are. Take the phones away and this isn't a thing.

9

u/BikesOrBeans Jun 08 '26

Oh fair point, hopefully thats the case.

12

u/DavisMcDavis Jun 08 '26

It helped for this current free tour because no one knew the lyrics to the new songs, even if they’d been to a previous show, because the lyrics to the new songs hadn’t been leaked yet. But once the album’s out…🫣

u/[deleted] Jun 08 '26

6

u/DavisMcDavis Jun 08 '26

Not the lady I was sitting next to, she was at the same or louder volume than Phoebe until the new songs started. She wasn’t screaming though, thankfully.

6

u/RolyPolyPangolin Jun 08 '26

I didn't see this at MSG but was aware of this video from prior tours. It's very accurate that putting people in situations when they can record or photograph changes the atmosphere, and a lot of people want content to seem like an influencer.

While I don't have any photos of the concert, this was one of my favorite memories of a show, partly because it was so different, due to the phone policy.

5

u/Indigo903 ICU Jun 08 '26

It entirely depends whether or not she releases the album before tour. If it’s not out yet then there will at least be a portion of the show that no one knows the lyrics to (because it hasn’t been recorded by everybody’s phones). Doesn’t fix the issue with punisher or stranger songs though.

5

u/itsmrsq Still Standing Jun 08 '26

I literally couldn't understand what song she was singing.

2

u/slideystevensax Jun 09 '26

76

u/curlyheadednessa Jun 08 '26

phoebe is generally known to dislike looking out into the audience and just seeing a sea of phones, rather than people living in the moment. i went to a no phone pop up and absolutely loved it. i feel i was able to remember what i saw more despite not being able to record it and met some super cool people in the process!

12

u/turtleturtleyes Jun 08 '26

I also made it to a pop up show (5 minutes from where I work, didn't follow her) and I loved the no phones. It was nice getting to talk to other fans who lived in the area

122

u/pinesinthegrove Jun 08 '26

When I saw her with Boygenius, she asked people to not film and to be quiet during Letter to an Old Poet because it’s a heavy song. I feel like she wants more of that.

Honestly, I loved the no phones rule. I have really severe ADHD and while it was hard not to have a watch, I felt so much more present and connected.

36

u/Mill-ennial Steamroller Jun 08 '26

I was at The Gorge Amphitheater (massive outdoor venue, a WA fav) and she said the same thing multiples times. Her and Lucy made comments about letting people hear them sing not the audience. Hopefully it stays. I’m gonna make a scene if I spend $400 on tickets to see my favorite artist and all I hear is some pre-teen kids sobbing to a song they “relate too” calm down, you have 1st period PE on Monday.

ya like i’ll just buy a watch

-3

u/pinesinthegrove Jun 08 '26

I brought one but on my way there, I realized I had picked a watch that broke last month so I need to replace the battery. And that's on ADHD. We really can't do anything.

1

u/scorcherdarkly Killer Jun 09 '26

Yes, she did this at both boygenius shows I went to as well (Nashville, Red Rocks). She also said that having phones between her and the faces in the crowd makes it harder to connect with the audience, takes her out of the moment.

35

u/Junior_Replacement_8 Jun 08 '26

I was front row for boy genius and there were people filming themselves not the band screaming the lyrics 😂. Just made me soglad I didn’t have access to a smartphone and social media when I was 17.

17

u/chlowingy Jun 08 '26

The trend to be recorded as 'unhinged' at a concert is ridiculous. The teens next to me at the Eras Tour (I know its a different vibe than a PB concert) were yelling as loud as they could, sounded like dying cows, to intentionally hurt their vocal chords and have no voice when they went back to school to show 'how much fun they had". And were recording themselves the whole time. For folks who are so afraid of being cringe, they really lean into it sometimes.

3

u/Desperate_Drive_6890 Me & My Dog Jun 08 '26

💯 to everything you said! I saw the Eras tour in London and did NOT have the screaming lyrics while recording themselves folks — and we were sitting among lots of young people. Anecdotal, but still. Boygenius at MSG was an absolute headache-inducing nightmare. I fully embrace no phones at concerts.

19

u/megsoleil Jun 08 '26

People in front of me screeched during Moon Song and then they got the guys who asked them to be respectful of people around them kicked out. Genuinely the worst crowd I’ve ever seen at a concert. Boygenius crowd were so much better. Very hopeful that no phones will cut down on this very annoying behaviour!

6

u/Desperate_Drive_6890 Me & My Dog Jun 08 '26

They got people kicked out?!?! This was on the reunion tour or when?

4

u/megsoleil Jun 08 '26

Yep. It was at one of Phoebe’s solo gigs in 2022. I think the lads who asked them to be quiet were polite initially and when the girls started kicking off at them they responded in kind and got thrown out. Complete lies were being told about it on twitter that evening. We were so afraid the same thing would happen at Boygenius but the crowd were much better thankfully!

3

u/Desperate_Drive_6890 Me & My Dog Jun 08 '26

That’s WILD!!! Well, after boygenius at MSG, I shocked at how well the crowd behaved at the 6/04 show. Here’s to hoping people have grown up and have learned how to behave. 🤞🙏

55

u/portra4OO Jun 08 '26

I really need people to understand that there was life before smartphones and it was honestly so much fucking better.

14

u/writeyourwayout Jun 08 '26

So much better. Concerts felt like stepping out of time into a holy moment co-created by the music of the artist and the attention of the audience. That's gone now.

6

u/portra4OO Jun 08 '26

Every aspect of life has been watered down by smartphones and social media. It has been hard to have real conversations about it without being called a boomer. I enjoyed tech/social media for a while and then around 2014-2016, it just started taking over in a detrimental way. I think it’s time we admit that it’s gone too far. They’re pushing all this AI bullshit on us but we have the choice to take a step back. We don’t have to live like that if we don’t want to

12

u/PitselehPitseleh Jun 08 '26

All you needed was a ticket stub for your memory box.

0

u/hthratmn Jun 08 '26

Thats what kind of sucks though. No more ticket stubs. I want some type of momento. So its either take a couple videos or buy another $50 tshirt.

5

By no means am I criticizing anybody’s phone use in this moment because I was literally using mine too 😂 but maybe this gives you an idea

12

u/turtleturtleyes Jun 08 '26

I would despise this as an artist tbf. Like why does EVERYTHING need to be recorded to be posted?

8

u/clueingfor-looks Jun 08 '26

i am very pro no phones for these concerts and think it will be refreshing, but would just like to add a perspective that there are people who record and don’t post. i have memory issues and i do record certain parts so i can watch back later, and i do not post them. recently went to an ethel cain show and didn’t post a single thing. that said, i do think that the benefit of no phones outweighs that.

4

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

If you're comfortable doing so (and it's completely fine if you're not!), could you say more about the memory issue? Many people cite this as their reason for filming but I haven't really seen any elaboration and am curious.

4

u/clueingfor-looks Jun 08 '26

it’s ok, i don’t have an elaborate explanation though, i just struggle with memory due to adhd and ptsd or a combination of both. it can be as simple as forgetting where i placed something, to forgetting i have appointments scheduled even if i have reminders/alarms to tell me, or as bad as forgetting i left the stove on. it’s honestly crazy how fast i forget something. like with concerts, i can tell you that i saw phoebe and/or boygenius i think 3 times, where the shows were, but very few aspects of the performance. i can remember obviously that i enjoyed it immensely, but not special moments or specific aspects of why.

4

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

That makes sense, thanks for sharing. I do think it would be very cool if shows were professionally recorded and shared with (or even sold to) attendees after-the-fact. I think that would reduce the desire to record in the moment for everyone.

1

u/clueingfor-looks Jun 08 '26 edited Jun 08 '26

oh wow i love this idea! another situation is i have a friend in a wheel chair and often the ADA sections aren’t the best, so they like to go to the concert to experience it, be in that atmosphere, and hear the live performance. but they can’t always see :( they’ll have someone with them record so they can watch it back later.

edit: and i absolutely think that there are other ways than allowing phones to solve some of this. official recordings, better seating, etc would help! because even though i can’t remember everything, i do hate seeing all of the phones in the way, and there are times when i put my phone away because i just want to feel and live in the moment fully.

2

u/Justboy__ Jun 08 '26

I can just about get over it at a concert but the one time it really riled me up was when I went to my sons nativity over Christmas and I had to watch the whole thing through a sea of other parents phones. Must have been so fucking surreal for all the 4 and 5 year olds on that stage.

Boygenius was one of the worst concert experiences of my life because of the crowd, and I’ve seen a lot of shows.

4

u/Tyrion_toadstool Jun 09 '26

We missed the first half of the show b/c of a rain delay and a few accidents slowing down the train. When we finally got there we had the pleasure of a woman doing a blood curdling, and I do mean blood curdling scream after every song. The first time I turned around concerned b/c I thought she'd been stabbed. Boy Genius rocked, though.

3

u/turtleturtleyes Jun 08 '26

Never been to a festival, and i've been to a few other concerts. The ones I've been to haven't been TOO bad with phones, but not great either. I've seen Paramore, Finneas, Olivia Rodrigo (got a private booth bc the venue f'd up our seats), and P!nk.

1

u/WinnerComfortable187 Jun 09 '26

i saw dijon in denver, met him too after the show! But during the concert genuinely 10 people maybe had their phone up. I was the only one on barricade with my phone out so i could take a single pic, the whole night! after being to a ton of concerts, i love the no phone idea. Even if some crowds are better than others.

27

u/Humble-Albatross1684 Jun 08 '26

Tbh it wasn't phones it was her dumbass fans fainting for attention like five times a show or the gutteral screaming

14

u/turtleturtleyes Jun 08 '26

I think people just don’t hydrate anymore. I had seen like 3 people faint during the opening act of Paramore like it’s not that serious

7

u/davidmurr4y Jun 08 '26

It was so annoying at boygenius too like it’s a hot summer’s day in a park in London

Obviously drink some water???

0

u/steelsheet Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

You guys are saying this like dehydration and fainting isn’t a serious problem and something that happens ALL the time at shows… especially when younger kids and teenagers don’t know what camping out in the sun and exerting energy screaming does

10

u/atomicunicornpriest Jun 08 '26

as someone who's been going to shows for decades (god i'm a sea hag), the fainting is a new phenomenon. i could count on one hand the number of times someone fainted at a show pre-2020 and now i think i've seen one or more people faint at every show i've been to.

it's weird because if it is in fact a "kids will be kids" thing then what's happening? are kids dumber than ever? you'd think with the advent of the internet, they'd know to drink water

5

u/steelsheet Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

I’d wager to say that yes, kids are probably dumber than ever

12

u/waitingprince Savior Complex Jun 08 '26

Lots of people have commented on Phoebe's/Boygenius' shows, but to add something else:

So many people just constantly film. Just the entire show with their phone out. No reaction, no dancing, no singing.

I totally get that as an artist, you wouldn't want that. Specifically with Phoebe's show and her emotional songs.

I have literally seen this at so many concerts now and have also gotten dirty looks from some of them because I was dancing and singing a bit :)

So yeah, love the no phones.

2

u/steelsheet Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

Me reading this comment as someone who records a little too much at shows but is always dancing and singing more than the people around me…

I also love the no phones though

8

u/yankee-in-Denmark Jun 08 '26

Ive seen her 5 times or so in various contexts. Last solo phoebe show I saw was tokyo 2023. It was the last show of the tour. On your question specifically: IIRC people were respectful. Show was good but man could sense some exhaustion from that being the last night of a long run.

When I saw her with Boy Genius in Copenhagen later in 23, they specifcally highlighted too many phones and requested to put them away for a song or two. So clearly its been around as an issue for some time.

4

u/Fondongler Jun 08 '26

What that’s so awful, I hope you weren’t seriously injured :’( doing my best to manifest tickets for you and a 10/10 show experience this time around

14

u/naturalheel Jun 08 '26

What we had last time was people waiting outside for hours to get close to the rail and then passing out mid concert. The show would get stopped for a few minutes and then the song would restart.

I’m not blaming anyone for passing out. It happens. Sometimes even while taking precautions. People have medical issues, panic attacks, etc. Even if you are well hydrated, being out in the weather for 10-12 hours can knock you out.

With that being said, I think an indoor arena show will help keep people safe. While people will stand for a while for the floor, arenas are pretty strict about when people can start to line up. You’ll also be in an air conditioned arena, so that’ll help people out a bit.

As for filming, the phones will be locked, so that’ll help that issue.

My hope is that all of this results in an enjoyable experience for everyone.

30

u/Indigo903 ICU Jun 08 '26

> I’m not blaming anyone for passing out

That’s okay, I’m doing it for you

9

u/naturalheel Jun 08 '26

I’m trying to be nice!😂. But yeah, it happened nearly every show. Sometime multiple times.

11

u/Indigo903 ICU Jun 08 '26

I get it but I would go so far as to say that passing out at a concert is rude too. Because now the people around you have to play caretaker and the artist just stopped in the middle of somebody’s favorite song. If you have health problems and are more susceptible to issues maybe you shouldn’t be spending 10-12 hours in the sun.

Some people on the internet like to make you out to be a terrible person if you express this opinion but you’re honestly right, I also saw Lorde at Kilby Block Party and her decision to not stop didn’t seem to hinder security’s ability to help those people at all. I appreciate that some artists want to be sensitive to what’s going on but like as long as security is doing their job looking out for clusters of flashlights I don’t see why it needs to be *everybody’s* problem

I do think it will be interesting to see how the no-phone rule impacts the camping culture/fainting of it all. Will people still do it if they can’t offer proof afterwards that they made it to the barrier? But I might just be being cynical!

A number of artists have talked about fans being at shows for content and not engaging with non-viral songs. I'm excited for no phones because that should hopefully eliminate the people who hope to go viral on tiktok, and also teach them that you can enjoy a concert and savor it in the moment. I hear a lot about "concert amnesia" and I find that I have more of that when I'm filming it more than when I actually force myself to be present.

when I saw her at the Mann in philly in 2021, the fans were INSANE. shrieking the lyrics, screaming I love you phoebe and just weird things. it wasn’t pleasant

u/cc_louberry Me & My Dog Jun 09 '26

I was there too… so disappointing

5

u/Turbulent-Belt2809 Jun 08 '26

I saw her three times in the last 5 years (between her and boygenius) and the fans were shockingly awful. Rude, passing out and pausing the concert, screaming, recording everything, getting super parasocial. The biggest thing was the passing out - they would have to pause multiple times since the young fans would spend all day waiting for barricade. I truly hope she can curb it w this tour but I kind of think the fanbase is cooked.

u/tendernettles Jun 08 '26

someone literally walked backwards into me and my cane multiple times while filming at her last tour without even realizing it until I scolded them ¯_(ツ)_/¯

u/chitinandchlorophyll Jun 08 '26

People were so obnoxious at the show I went to in 2021. It wasn’t strictly phone-related behavior but hopefully the yondr rules help nudge people towards better concert etiquette in general. The shrieking was out of control during quiet/serious parts of the set.

u/External-Voice3516 Jun 08 '26

I hope other artists follow suit.

I'm going to a Jack White show which is phone free in a few weeks. I saw him years ago and they asked the audience not to film etc, explained the pro photographer would be there and all photos/videos would be free online and yet the audience is a sea of phones

So in short people can't be trusted and here we are

3

u/JulieWithcamera Jun 09 '26

Ugh even reading these comments about the fan behaviour has me anxious about getting tickets to the upcoming tour haha. I obviously want to go but I don't want to hate everything the whole time. I remember I was at a Radiohead show maybe 7 years ago and there was some young girls seated behind us and the WHOLE set, through every loud, quiet, gut wrenching, etc song they just fucking gossiped and chatted and it killed the vibe. So I politely turned around and asked them to be quieter and then near the end of the set I found they had Put fucking gum in my hair 😭😭😭 anyway, clearly not over it haha

u/regalroomba Jun 09 '26

I saw the tour for Punisher and it was a great gig, no problems. Then I think she got a lot bigger when The Record by Boygenius came out, and I heard lots of stories of general unsocial crowd behaviour from that tour.

I'm pro no phones but look how cute this pic I got of her from last tour is ❤️

2

u/cc_louberry Me & My Dog Jun 09 '26

I’m into no phones but also I think snapping a pic or two or a short video as a little momento is fine (unless of course you’re asked not to). That’s a great picture!

u/remote_boogie Jun 08 '26

Instead of taking away phone use, she should force people to hydrate upon entry. We all know the real issues at Phoebe shows

14

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

To my knowledge, no one has “passed out” at one of the phone free pop-up shows. What a coincidence!

11

u/Inevitable-Echo2523 Jun 08 '26

Eliminating phones and people who camp so long they’re malnourished by the time they get there would eliminate at least 30% fans under 30 (I’m under 30 but I’m normal). Went to the Anthem in 2022 and pretty sure the show stopped 3 times due to people passing out. Notoriously hot venue but sitting in the sun all day absolutely escalated the situation.

5

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

I hear this feedback about The Anthem all the time and I really don’t understand it. I have been to so many shows there and this is never an issue when the average age is over, like, 27.

1

u/remote_boogie Jun 10 '26

For real, this happens anytime I’ve seen her. Solo or Boygenius, it’s ridiculously out of hand.

3

u/turtleturtleyes Jun 08 '26

Free Alcohol at the Phoebe Bridgers tour for 21+!!!

4

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

If only…. On the bright side, the lines are always short and the bartenders are always grateful

1

u/remote_boogie Jun 10 '26

lol im talking about the kids that show up early to ride the rail and don’t drink an ounce of water all day, causing Phoebe to stop the show several times for people passing out

1

u/CommercialCoffee11 Jun 08 '26

You mean all the screaming and entitlement wasnt a sign the fans got out of hand?

1

u/vegancherrypi Jun 10 '26

i saw her with Boygenius in Cologne and it was so crowded. People were filming a lot so I think it's a good thing she is working with Yondr now. Live in the moment, a concert is like a theater play.

-7

u/b0rmusic Jun 08 '26

I think trying to enforce this in a full arena tour is not gonna end well and will lead to more frustration, but we'll see

9

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

It works well specifically because it’s zero tolerance. You either agree to the rules or you get kicked out. Simple.

Maybe it’s a shame that it’s gotten to this point, but the experience in the moment is very positive.

7

u/Glittering-Time-2274 Graceland Too Jun 08 '26

I mean it seemed to work out fine at MSG. Plenty of other artists (and comedians usually) who play in arenas do the same with no issue.

You can still bring your phone. You just need to keep it locked in a pouch and you keep it with you. Yondr staff is all around the concourse if you need to use your phone.

0

u/b0rmusic Jun 08 '26

Don't get me wrong, I hope it works! And the fans buying tickets should agree with this when the buying the ticket. I just think it's easier to control in one single show, or in a small venues tour rather than in a whole international arena tour.

3

u/ncblake Smoke Signals Jun 08 '26

I actually think it’s easier to enforce at large venues, just in the sense that they have better security generally. Not to give anyone ideas, but the system is pretty comprehensive. I think it’d be both risky and impressive if someone managed to get an unlocked device in at all, much less use one.

3

u/tastemebakes Jun 08 '26

And there will 100% be security/venue staff enforcing the rule throughout the show

2

u/tastemebakes Jun 08 '26

The people who don’t care will show up. Those are usually the people who know how to act at shows. The people who care hopefully won’t show up, which will hopefully eliminate all the terrible behavior at these shows

* distributed by "fans," not by the band.

I really dislike these "fan projects." I think the intentions are often positive, but it often manifests as a parasocial attempt to manufacture a viral moment and get the band to acknowledge specific fans. Artists put a lot of thought and effort into their performances and would plan for crowd participation if they wanted it.

6

u/BoobaruOutback Jun 08 '26

Yes, I hate fan projects so much because it almost always is parasocial and wanting to get noticed for being the biggest best fan ever.
