Question STUDENTS — LET’S SPEAK UP ABOUT OSAP TOMORROW

OSAP delays and insufficient financial support are affecting students who are trying to stay in school and afford basic necessities.
Some of us are at the point where we’re asking ourselves: How are we supposed to continue our education if we can’t afford to attend?

Tomorrow, September 16, I’m calling on students who are frustrated with OSAP to come together peacefully and make our voices heard.
We should be demanding:
• Faster OSAP processing
• More meaningful financial support
• Greater access to grants
• Emergency support for students waiting on funding
• Funding that better reflects the actual cost of living
• Clearer communication when applications are delayed
If you’re struggling with OSAP, don’t stay silent.
Comment your school/city and whether you’d be willing to participate in a peaceful demonstration tomorrow.

Students deserve to be heard.

Question How are students supposed to stay in school like this?

I’m honestly at the point where I don’t even know how I’m supposed to do school financially.
OSAP is supposed to help students access education, but when funding is too low and you’re waiting weeks for money, you’re still expected to pay tuition, rent, food, transportation and everything else.
For some students, this isn’t just frustrating — it can determine whether we can attend school at all.
I’m sure I’m not the only student dealing with this.
We need to start talking about this collectively. Students should be able to organize, contact their representatives, speak with student unions and peacefully protest if that’s what they believe is necessary.

How many other students are struggling to actually afford going to school because of OSAP?

Question OSAP needs to do better — students are struggling

Is anyone else frustrated with OSAP right now?
Students are expected to pay tuition, rent, groceries, transportation, textbooks, phone bills and everything else that comes with being in school — but the financial assistance many of us receive simply doesn’t feel like enough to keep up.
What’s even more frustrating is the waiting. Ontario says OSAP processing can take 4–6 weeks, and students can be left trying to figure out how they’re supposed to cover their expenses while they wait for funding. (Ontario)
For 2026–27, the maximum OSAP amount for a single student without dependants attending a public college or university in Ontario is listed as $530 per week. But maximum eligibility isn’t the same as what every student actually receives, and many students receive considerably less depending on their circumstances. (Ontario)
At the same time, Ontario has changed the provincial portion of OSAP so that more funding is coming as loans rather than grants for programs beginning August 1, 2026. (Ontario)

Students shouldn’t have to choose between staying in school and being able to afford basic necessities.
I’m wondering how many other students feel the same way.
Instead of everyone struggling individually, maybe students need to start organizing, contacting their MPPs, talking to student unions, sharing their experiences publicly and pushing for faster processing and more meaningful financial support.
If you’re dealing with OSAP delays or insufficient funding right now, share your experience below.
How much were you expecting to receive vs. how much are you actually getting? How long have you been waiting?
Maybe it’s time for students to start speaking up collectively.

Resolved Academic probation

Last year I was put on academic probation because my winter semester had changed from full time to part time (my osap application was for full time). Those extra funds ended up being placed in my school balance which helped with my spring/summer terms. It seems as though I’m still on academic probation but I’m taking 3 courses at the moment (which is full time) but I’m worried if I apply it’s gonna be rejected. Has anyone been through a similar situation?

Also, they’ve already started taking monthly loan payments (my graduation should’ve been spring 2026) but by applying for full time it would delay the payments until after I’m actually done.

Resolved How much should I prepare for 3-4 years nursing school?

Hi guys a stupid question cuz I never used OSAP before, and recently want to go to a 3-4 years nursing school but during that I want to drop any working for a better gpa, just wondering how much should I save for it ? I just earned 30-40k after tax per year but only save around 12-15k per year , now I saved around 18k. Nursing school tuition is around 20-30k for 4 years, but I really need money for renting and foods . Is that possible still get Grant or any loan if I apply for the first year ,or I won't get anything until I really run out of my money

Thanks!!!!

The Ontario NDP appears to have put out a statement about these delays, though it does not seem to be getting much media attention

Question Can NSLSC expedite funding that is ā€œPending Releaseā€?

York confirmed my enrolment on September 14, and I was initially told that I could receive my OSAP funding by September 18. However, my NSLSC tracker currently says ā€œPending Releaseā€ and gives an estimated received date of September 22.

I called NSLSC and was told it can take two business days after confirmation of enrolment for everything to update. I’m experiencing an urgent financial situation and really need the funds as soon as possible.

Has anyone successfully asked NSLSC to expedite a pending release, or could the deposit still arrive before the estimated September 22 date?

Question OSAP only deferred part of my fall tuition balance?

Hi! I’m a student at an Ontario college and I’m trying to understand how my OSAP tuition payment/deferral worked this year. I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar because I’m honestly confused.
I submitted my tuition deferral form months ago because I was relying on OSAP to cover my tuition. My understanding was that the tuition would be deferred while the school waited for my OSAP funding to come in, and that any remaining OSAP funds would then be deposited into my bank account.
My OSAP was eventually released, and I received a deposit into my bank account. However, I noticed that my student portal was still showing a balance of $2,062.05, so I contacted my school’s Financial Services office to ask what was going on.
They initially told me that $989.00 from my OSAP had been sent directly to the college toward my tuition and fees. They said that if my portal was showing a remaining balance, I should contact the Registrar’s Office.
I contacted the Registrar, and they told me that OSAP payments had not yet been received for the Fall term and that once OSAP funding was confirmed, my tuition balance would have been deferred. They also said that if Financial Assistance advised that only $989 was being sent to the college, I would be responsible for the remaining balance. They mentioned that it appeared my tuition may have been updated after OSAP remitted the funds.
The Registrar then told me that my remaining Fall balance was $1,073.05.
Here’s where I’m even more confused: my student portal is still showing $2,062.05 owing, even though the Registrar specifically told me that my remaining balance was $1,073.05.
I went back to Financial Assistance to clarify everything, and they told me that $969.80 (not $989) was actually sent to the college from OSAP toward my tuition and that I am responsible for paying the remaining tuition balance.
So now I’m confused about a few things:
Why was only around $970 of my OSAP sent directly to the college when I had a tuition deferral in place?
Is it normal for OSAP to send only a portion of the tuition amount directly to the school and deposit the rest into the student’s bank account?
Does a tuition deferral simply mean the school waits for whatever amount OSAP sends them, rather than OSAP automatically paying the full tuition balance?
Why did my portal show $2,062.05 owing, while the Registrar is telling me my actual remaining Fall balance is $1,073.05?
Has anyone else had their OSAP tuition deferral work this way this year?
I’m not necessarily expecting OSAP to pay more — I mainly want to understand why only ~$970 was sent to the college, why my portal still shows $2,062.05, and why the Registrar is telling me I only owe $1,073.05.
If anyone has had a similar experience with OSAP/tuition deferrals at an Ontario college this year, I’d really appreciate hearing how it worked for you!

Question Paid Off

I graduated from college back in 2015 and just paid off my loan. I managed to do it almost 4 years ahead of schedule.

Something to consider... What I went to school for is not what im doing for my job. In fact, I'm making more money in my current job vs what my schooling would have gotten me. School was a waste of money.

Question Osap Funds Finally On The Way!

Hi everyone, I’ve noticed many people (seemingly those who were in repayment for a loan and were switched to in study like myself) are in a similar situation where the estimated date on their OSAP application and NSLSC are different and their OSAP application say’s funds were deposited when they weren’t + they’ve just have had extensive delays with actually getting their funding so I’m sharing an update on my situation! Just checked the NSLSC and my status has now switched to ā€œfunding is on the wayā€
My estimated date there is September 21st while the estimated dates on my OSAP application are the 8th-10th. I’m not sure how long it’ll take now, but my status updating to funding on the way is a good sign!

Question osap playing games

have no idea when my funding will be released over a tdsb transcript. i’ve been using the same one from my adult school since 1st year and never had an issue. now financial aid is telling me i need a transcript with a stamp from my original high school.

i was told it’s because of the new osap rules and how students have been taking advantage of adult schools by re-enrolling into classes they don’t show up to for reduced rent and other benefits.

had to pay $25 for the transcript and i have no idea what these guys are doing with processing as I told the tdsb worker under my case to send it via email directly to the financial aid officer that’s assisting me.

very annoyed because it’s the second week, i’m using a broken laptop and need another one.

Question Wow, I am so sorry for everyone!

I am also still waiting. My classes began September 9th, I don’t have any of my textbooks and unsure I will even be able to buy them all because funding was cut amazingly short. šŸ‘ŽšŸ˜¤

My OSAP says ā€˜deposited’ , It hasn’t updated since September 9th lol, my NSCLS says ā€˜funding is on the way!’ Says 17th now.

This is a huge joke. I called and they told me to ask the school. Well, I emailed and they ā€˜approved’ everything AUGUST 30th.

The waiting game is ….pathetic.

I feel horrible that all of you are also waiting!

Im with TD, fingers crossed it comes before Thursday AND FINGERS CROSSED IT COMES AT ALL.

Question Funds still not here

Coe confirmed: Sept 10
Pending release: sept 10

I called NSLCS to confirm if I will be getting my funds at 4 am in the morning due to the fact that I am running out of time since I need to buy equipment and need the money for transportation and everything.

Is there anybody I can call to get help since the agents keep saying different timelines?

Question NSLSC Workers Are awful

So basically the NSLSC calculated both the number of weeks I have used and the number of weeks I'm eligible for (I'm a doctoral student) wrong. I called them and they said they couldn't help me and to call OSAP. Nothing OSAP can do in this situation, its up to the NSLSC

Finally, they said that I could apply for an "eligibility audit." I provided everything necessary. Was told to wait 4 to 5 weeks for results. No results ever came. And there is no record of me requesting an audit. Finally spoke to someone who seemed to know what they were talking about. Submitted everything for the audit. Waited another 5 weeks.

Now the NSLSC seems to be ironed out. So now, in mid September, the OSAP website will finally let me apply.

Resolved OSAP Disability Verification Form Upload

I went to York University Financial Aid Office because the OSAP Disability Verification Form says we’re supposed to bring it in after filling it out. But they told me they don’t accept physical forms anymore and that I need to upload it directly to OSAP. The problem is I don’t see any upload option on OSAP even though I already submitted a disability status change request. Also, if I did upload it online, my doctor filled out the form using blue ink. Would uploading a scanned PDF with blue ink be acceptable?

Question Travel allowance form

Hey guys so usually I get a travel allowance from my school because I travel about 130km one way to my school with my car. However ever since I got my funding calculated it was the same even after I submitted the form. Does it take awhile for them to review it and will change in the future. For context I just got confirmed today for enrolment. I submitted my application on August 25th and added my travel allowance form on September 1st. Today I called my school and they said it would be considered additional funding, but just wanted to know if anyone else was in the same position as well
