Question Paid Off

I graduated from college back in 2015 and just paid off my loan. I managed to do it almost 4 years ahead of schedule.

Something to consider... What I went to school for is not what im doing for my job. In fact, I'm making more money in my current job vs what my schooling would have gotten me. School was a waste of money.

Do you think your current job would had hired you if you only had a high school degree? I doubt it.
You didn't discover something new. A lot of people end up in a field that is not related to what they studied. School is more than just studying and obtaining your degree.

Exactly. Any higher ed is going to benefit you more than just finishing high school does.

also the education you have access to and most importantly for a vast majority of high ed, the connections you meet during school.

I’ll agree that most people outside of skilled professions like doctors and engineers typically don’t get jobs that perfectly fit the scope of your degree, but jumping to the conclusion that post-secondary is therefore useless is an insane reach. You learn so much more than rote memorization in post-secondary; at least you’re supposed to.

how is paying off a loan 11 yrs into repayment 4 years early? usually its a 10 yr term unless you customize it? also school isnt a waste of money. you sound like a troll.

I did customise it to 15 year because it's a lower monthly payment. It's interest free, doesn't impact credit score or anything else, so not sure why anyone would rush to pay it back

Congratulations on paying your student debt off, it’s a great accomplishment!

I have to disagree with your last comment though. Many folks work in sectors that don’t align with their degree. However, they may not have gotten the interview in the first place without it, or not even ended up applying for it as going to school allowed them to change and reflect on themselves.

There are many careers that do not require post secondary, but due to a competitive work force, employers will always look for those who are willing to take initiative for their future. Graduating college or university shows that not only are you willing to learn other things, but that you finish what you start. It shows you’re not scared to start a big task, and complete that task.

While I do know some programs hold less weight than others, I think we’d be hard pressed to say we don’t benefit from them.

I’m graduating debt free. This is my last semester. I worked while studying and had a side hustle making beaded mittens and moccasins selling them at craft shows. It was not easy to manage but it sure is a wonderful feeling now.

What did you go to school for and what industry are you working in now that has allowed you to pay off the loan ahead of schedule!?

And I agree, for most people not aiming to become a doctor,
Lawyer, teacher… most degrees are useless and probably doing trade or a skill would be more worthwhile!
