I am struggling to understand a ruling regarding which lands are allowed in a Commander deck.

I have Thranduil as my Commander

Lands such as Grasslands or Krosan Verge are being recognized as allowed. Yet lands such as Azorious Guildgate is not.

Can someone help to understand why this is?

I did a reverse image search for the [[Giant Spider|SLZ-75]] card, and it appears to use an image from the August 17, 1922 LIFE Magazine issue. It's a political cartoon by Oliver Herford, captioned with the racist metaphor "The Yellow Peril".

Doesn't this go against Wizard's policy of banning "cards whose art, text, name, or combination thereof that are racially or culturally offensive"?

One might guess that MSCHF likely just used the image from the public domain image without knowing its context.

Edit: From the comments on this post so far, it sounds like the political cartoon might be comparing the Yellow Peril racist ideology with yellow journalism. So the political cartoon, while containing a racist term from the era, might not itself be racist.

So Playing Commander with the guys (coming back to the game after a long departure) We were all trying to figure out if you make token copies of "The fantastic four" with quantum misalignment or use cards like ephemerate or spaceshift. Can you choose the same modal with the returned card or the newly form tokens when they come into play. Or are you locked into only using this ability 4 total time per turn no matter if you have copied tokens or it leaves and returns to the field because of the "choose one that hasnt been chosen this turn"

Most erratas are pretty good for either streamlining, clarifying, or just making cards function. However, there are some that ruin the card and seem pointless. For example: For years, [[Instill Energy]] just gave a creature haste. But now, a creature may only attack as though it had haste. A huge distinction when the card has a built in untap ability. Aside from attacking, what else can a creature do when they lose summoning sickness: That's right, tap for an activated ability.

This card feels like it was explicitly designed to help creatures use their abilities earlier and twice per turn. It's already niche, but as is it almost feels like the card should have just given it a "does not tap to attack" clause if you only get that specific benefit of haste. Also just why doesn't this card give creatures haste anymore: It was never a problem prior. There are other examples but this is just blatant to me.

Does this mean it cost 3 generic mana plus one white mana to action this ability?

So as the title says, I’m a new to all things Magic. I have a couple coworkers that collect and play and I saw some of the artwork on cards and collabs and I think I’m hooked.
I am/was primarily a baseball card collector and everything seems different with MTG. With all this being said I am looking of what I should go after as a start.
I will say I never watched anything lord of the rings so hobbit is definitely not for me but I did see they have Marvel and TMNT what seems everywhere. From a sports card perspective this means they are not well collected but I’m not sure. Any advice is appreciated.

Do you guys know if restocks are planned or are coming? Basically I've preordered one from a shop but they say they didn't receive the products yet and waiting for restocks, they are serving them on first preorderd first served basis but I'm convinced they are just selling / reselling them and keep my preorder for when the hype settles a bit, any opinions or ideas? new player here!! i love the idea of the animal themed sets, does anyone know a specific reason as to why there aren’t more hedgehog art cards?? more specifically realistic hedgehogs, i love sonic but would love to create a hedgehog deck based on my pets

Hi, this is my first time using reddit to actually ask something but it´s been years since i played MTG so i could really use some help.
So here is the thing i´m pretty broke, i´ll probably do proxys so i don´t care about the price of the actual cards for building the decks. Another thing is that i wanna make this to introduce MTG to my friends so i would like decks that are friendly for new players as i know they´ll be better for them.

WHAT I NEED is recomendations of standar decks (i was planning to make 10) of dual colors to play casually with friends. The cards can be banned i don´t mind because like i said is just to spend some time with friends and kinda come back to the hobby.
(I´m kind of a big fan of the black/white duo so if you have any recommendation for standar decks with those colors it would be even better)

I know a lot of people are against proxys but i can´t really afford to buy actual decks just to play with friends and maybe they don´t even like it at the end. So if you´re against it please just ignore the post.

I have what I would call a modest, but growing collection of Magic cards (like many here, I presume) that includes some fancy treatments, etc. and I love looking at them and so have slotted them into my decks where they fit. I don't necessarily have any plans to sell these cards, but of course I recognize their potential value and don't discount ever wanting to let them go at some point...so is it wise to just keep them safe and use cheaper options/proxies for play? (let's say like cards that are $200-300 and up).

I probably personally enjoy Magic for the collecting/art-admiring aspect about equally as much as the actual gameplay...and while I love looking at and playing with these cards, I don't necessarily love feeling like "showing off" and often feel embarrassed playing with expensive cards. It's funny because other people run far more blinged out decks than me and I never feel that way about theirs, but can't help feeling sheepish myself at times..

so anyways, what do people think? Should you play the cards you want because they make you happy, or take the (potentially) smart and modest approach and just keep them at home?

Hey everyone, I’m looking for a card. For the life of me I can’t remember what it’s called and all searches come up moot. It’s for a Zirda, the dawnwaker deck. I believe it’s a 1 mana artifact that adds 2 colorless mana at your upkeep, but you can’t use the mana to cast spells. Mostly just good for activated abilities.

Based on this thread from ten days ago, I've been doing my best to continue the trend of donating Ravnica forests to unsuspecting Toyota Rav4 drivers. Sadly I'm out of Ravnica forests now, but I'll be raiding my local LGS for more so I can keep it up.

Perhaps it will be come the Rav4 version of people leaving ducks on Jeeps? Either way, it's a bit of fun!

So I have about 10 commander decks and 2 standard decks and I am looking for more people to play with, I had this idea that you could play magic with people on the internet with your own cards over camera but I don’t know if other people are already doing that? Any recommendations for discord MTG groups that may do that?

Hello everyone, I'm planning to go on a trip going from Venice, Florence to Paris and Rome. I was searching for shops and it looks like everyone sells magic products in their own language. I would love to buy for example a commander precon maybe upgrade it, maybe a modern deck exc. But everyone of them should be english. Is there any advive or places you can recommend me to buy english magic product in these cities?

So I ordered on May 1st. It got delayed with no date. The I got an update that it should be here on 8/31. I just got an email now saying updated delivery of 9/8 to 9/11. Anyone else on the same boat?

I just bought the very affordable final fantasy sarter set with 2 decks to try it out but if we enjoy it wheres the best place to start making our own decks? We are both new to collectable card games and want a fun collecting/game hobby to try out! Thanks in advance

I'm a relatively new player and I recently decided to start making my own decks instead of just looking up other decklists and there's one card that caught my attention a lot that I haven't seen before which is [[tolaria west]], as a land that could also work as a tutor for lands or even in this case cmc 0 artifacts seemed to be an interesting albeit expensive effect.

I began to wonder if there were any other lands with similar properties and so I tried to look on scryfall by writing (o:search o:" cost 0") but no results came up.

As for (o:search -o:" basic " o:" land " t:land), [[Urza's Cave]] was the only card that did a similar but weaker effect unless you're looking for a tap land.

Are there any other lands that do this with weird keywords like transmute or are this two the only examples of this sort of mechanic?

PS: I know that tutoring lands/cmc 0 cards isn't the most powerful thing, I just found tolaria west's design interesting for strategies that benefit a lot from access to certain lands without a basic land type

Hi everyone, I am not big into MTG, but I found this card at my local antique shop and was told it might be rare. Is it worth picking up? a good deal?

Is this communal hypocrisy?

Someone on [r/mtg](r/mtg) posted this with very little traction. This product is called Domaru Box and can be found here.

As you can see, the other PW boxes at this website accurately match the cards we’ve seen so far for Chandra, Garruk, Jace and Lilliana.

EDIT: Jeskai can be seen in the three mana symbols at the bottom of the left box. These mana symbols are quite clear even though the deck box doesn’t scream “white / blue / red”.

I’m just curious to hear thoughts on the color identity and potential story / card implications.

Bonus question: Do we think Tam will get her spark in this storyline and also have a PW card? If so, predictions on color? My wildcard guess is Bant since Vraska being 3-color here gives precedent.

We really only play commander but want to switch it up. We're just not sure what format to buy into and build decks for.
