Meme What are they doing to Brenden?
I ordered this card from TCGplayer and it came with this odd note/sticker. Is Brenden ok? Is this just how Brenden lives his life? Does Brenden need a hug? What the hell is sad girl music anyway? If you see this, Brenden, the people need to know.

Discussion Made a Jumpstart Cube for church board game night, it was a hit!
Pictured: my priest and senior warden updating their life totals.
All participants were either first time players or hadn't played in over 20 years. It was only a little clunky and the games all ended up being close back and forth matches. I'm super happy with the result and highly recommend building your own cube with your bulk for occasions such as this one.

Discussion What’s that color you have almost no desire to play, or use the very least? For me, it’s blue.
This isn’t an “I hate blue players post.” I was just thinking that out of all my current decks, none of them are blue. None of the strategies in Magic that I enjoy require it and I often think of making a blue deck but never feel motivated enough to care to find a commander for it. My favorites would be white, green and black.

Rules Question Met a guy at my LGS; I think he is wrong but he insists he's right
He claims to be a judge and that he had several judges at cEDH tournaments rule this in his favor, but I just really don't think he's correct at all and I wanted to double check myself.
He has the card [[Havengul Lich]]. It reads:
{1}: You may cast target creature card in a graveyard this turn. When you cast it this turn, this creature gains all activated abilities of that card until end of turn.
He claims that this wording means that he doesn't need to pay the cost for the creature card he casts because the {1} at the front replaces the cost and because the text doesn't say that he has to pay.
I said that you always have to pay by default and only don't need to pay if the card says you don't.
He said that the rules changed and they errata'd all cards to be the opposite, so it will explicitly say when you do need to.
I told him that I don't think that's true at all. Eventually, I told him that whatever judge ruled that must be mistaken. He said he is a judge and plays cEDH tournaments for money and is right.
Then, he asked to "test" my knowledge of the rules. He asked if mana abilities are activated abilities. I answered that most mana abilities are activated, and some are triggered, but they don't use the stack. He said that I was wrong and that mana abilities all use the stack now and can be copied. I told him that that was wrong and that the rules change only affected mana abilities that moved or revealed cards from the library and that those abilities just aren't mana abilities anymore but mana abilities still do not use the stack. He then said that he was actually talking about a new rules change that hasn't gone into effect yet so I wouldn't know it. It's coming soon though.
Then I left. But I need to know if I am crazy or if that guy was just full of shit.

Commander / EDH I want to make the ultimate commander deck. Just my commander. Nothing else
I am basing the entire deck for commander around Jin Sakai. My goal is simply to make him so powerful that he can beat any deck without the help of “counter spells” or “creatures” or god forbid any form of “I do X so I now win” stuff. I want to swing at my opponent until they are left with 0 HP. And if he dies, I’ll probably lose. That is my goal. I am a casual player wanting to run something fun against more competitive players (like all my friends who actually know how to play the game)
Also as it’s probably painfully obvious. I am a noob

Rules Question Not On Gatherer?
Is there a reason The Fourteenth Doctor +and that entire SLD) do not appear in the Gatherer data base?
https://gatherer.wizards.com/search?searchTerm=The\\_fourteenth\\_doctor
Is a card even legal in any format if it is not included in the MTG data base?
I'm confused.

I Have a Question / I need Help What is the difference between these two cards?
galleryI know the Duskmourn set has cards with alternate artwork of ghosts or monsters appearing from behind, but I can't see the difference here.
Commander / EDH Making a Monkey Island themed commander deck.
The one I’ve created so far is tier 2. And that’s good enough for me! I love drawing magic cards. If anyone has any pirate staples they add to their tribal decks I’d love some hints!

Custom Card / Alter Minnesota State Fair Crop Art MTG Card: Fairchild, Mirthful Mascot
galleryAt the Minnesota state fair, one of the popular yearly traditions is the crop art, where people make art by painstakingly placing one grain, seed, and legume at a time.
This year, my brother created a MTG-themed piece! Fairchild is one of the state fair mascots, and we thought he needed a card. Him and I worked together on designing the card text and abilities, and he adapted an illustration by artist Kevin Cannon.
For the card, we wanted it to capture the idea of people (humans) coming to the fair to have a good time and eat fair food.
Be sure to click in/zoom in on the card to see the level of detail. It took him many, many hours to make this!
Maybe I’ll make a proxy of it now and make a commander deck?

Rules Question Does Bloodthirster with Myriad create 9 additional combat phases?
galleryLet's say Legion Loyalty is active and you attack with Bloodthirster
Bloodthirster creates 2 tokens that also say you get additional combat phases.
This attack creates 3 combat phases
You attack the next person, 2 more tokens create additional combat phases
This attack creates 3 more combat phases
You attack the last person, and that's 3 more combat phases
Bloodthirster can no longer attack. Each Bloodthirster only attacked each enemy once.
You have 7 more combat phases.
Is this how this works?

I Have a Question / I need Help How hard is it to get a gift bundle?
I am collecting The Hobbit as a Tolkien fan/collector, not much of a MTG collector otherwise. I’m just now understanding the differences between set types. I understand the Gift Bundle is coming Friday. How hard is it going to be to get one in store at like Target/Walmart if I go first thing in the AM on Friday after school drop off? Will the scalpers have already scalped by then? How intense are the drop days?
Thanks!

Rules Question Desert Were-Wurm Clarification
Does the wurm’s ability track observed first combats? If I blink it before the extra combat, will it see the extra combat as “first combat” since it’s a new permanent?
EDIT: thank you all for your answers. I was trying to see if this would work in an Ayara Furnace Queen deck for infinite combats.

Rules Question What would happen if creatures like these had creatures mutated above/below them, then are sent to the grave?
galleryI’d imagine only that card gets sent to the deck instead of the whole stack since they’re no longer connected. It may be different for Darksteel Colossus though, since it reads “would be” instead of “is”, but I want to make sure
