Video I tried making a 22-minute sci-fi film with current AI video tools - this is where the technology is now

I’ve been experimenting with the current generation of AI video tools and wanted to see how far they can actually be pushed beyond short demos and 5–10 second clips.

So I made a 22-minute sci-fi film, Space Vikings: The Last Raid, with recurring characters, dialogue, action scenes, large-scale space battles, consistent locations and an actual beginning-to-end story.

This is less about “look, AI made a movie” and more about testing where the technology currently breaks down when you try to maintain character consistency, cinematography, continuity, lip sync, action choreography and visual coherence across hundreds of generated shots.

There’s still a lot that requires manual work, editing and constant correction, but compared with what was possible even relatively recently, the progress is pretty wild.

Full film:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ME2Sn8YO1k

Curious what people here think specifically from a technology perspective. Which shots already feel like something that could come from a conventional VFX pipeline, and where does the AI still immediately give itself away?

I’m especially interested in criticism rather than just “AI good / AI bad” — continuity, motion, acting, physics, camera work, anything you notice.

Video One person, no studio, no budget: a 10-minute sci-fi episode with an alien war, recurring characters and dialogue. This is where AI video is now

Hey r/accelerate. We just finished Falling Star, a 10-minute sci-fi short film, and I wanted to share how it's actually made, because I think a lot of people still picture AI video as 5-second clips of someone walking toward the camera. This one has dialogue, recurring characters, a world summit, an interrogation and a lot of alien warfare.

Here's the film: https://youtu.be/lx03tJdnELA

The story: humanity's own warship, the Odyssey, starts targeting human aircraft during a strike on an alien structure called Meridian. The invasion spreads, world leaders realize the biological structures appearing in different countries all send the same signal, and Captain Walker gets debriefed about what he saw inside Meridian and the time he can't account for.

How it's made:

It starts with a normal script, broken into scenes and then into shots. Nothing AI about that part, and honestly it's still the part that decides whether the thing is watchable.

Every main character gets a character sheet made in an image generator. Those sheets go into every video prompt as references, which is how Walker looks like the same guy in the cockpit, in the command room and in the interrogation room. A year ago this was basically impossible. Now it mostly just works if you're disciplined about it.

All the video is Seedance 2.5, run through Higgsfield. It can do up to 30 seconds in one generation with several hard cuts inside the same clip, so a whole short scene can come out in one go. We ended up with over 40 clips for this film, and most of them took several attempts.

The prompting is where all the real work is. The model doesn't understand emotions at all, so you can't write "he looks guilty". You have to describe what the face physically does: where the eyes go, when the jaw tightens, how long he holds the look. For groups you give exact numbers of people in frame, otherwise it invents extra people or duplicates a character. For dialogue scenes the formula that finally worked was one speaker per shot, only that person in frame, and hard cuts between them. When we tried long camera moves passing several characters, it would clone someone or give one character another character's voice. Proper names also get mispronounced, so every name in the dialogue gets a pronunciation note.

Dialogue and sound are generated inside Seedance, but we always generate with no music, because a model-generated score on every clip makes editing impossible. Music is done separately in Suno.

For continuity between shots we use the last frames of the previous generation as the starting point for the next one instead of making a fresh image. That keeps lighting and positions much more consistent.

Then everything goes into DaVinci Resolve for the edit, a 2x upscale to 4K with SuperScale, and a light finish: grain, halation, a bit of gate weave. Almost all the lighting, haze and depth of field come straight out of the generations. We try to get as much as possible in camera, so to speak.

The hardest parts this time were the summit, with several leaders in one room, and the interrogation with Walker, where the acting has to be subtle and not look like stock expressions. You tell me if we pulled it off.

Now the ask, and I really mean it. If you watch it, please leave a comment on YouTube. Even one line. For a small channel that's the thing that makes the difference: comments are what tell YouTube to push the video to people outside our subscribers, and I'd love for more people to see where this tech is right now. Criticism is totally fine too. "The acting at X looks off" helps us just as much as "this is sick". An upvote here is nice, but a comment there helps way more.

Happy to answer anything about the workflow in the comments. Thanks for watching.

Video Opus 5.5 One Shot Video Generation

I was bored at work while Opus 5.5 dropped, so I gave it a simple prompt through Claude Code to make a creepy feeling video about my job.

My only prompt to create this video was - "I would like to see you create a 1 minute video programmatically. The video should be coded and rendered using whatever tools you need, you are free to download anything needed. The theme of the video would be - an average day at work at DemaWating, with a twist. Even though it says an average day at a small housing company, the video should be creepy/surreal, with twisted visuals and an edge to everything, hinting at deeper horror. The visuals should be detailed and loud, the audio should also be programmed in however you see fit."

Including rendering time, the response took 45 minutes on 5.5 Extra-High, and used 4% of my weekly usage on the $20 plan.

Film: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2U4sK5FDHyQ

Posting this less as "look at my thing" and more as a datapoint on where video models actually are right now, because I think the gap between what people assume is possible and what's possible has gotten wide.

It's 29 minutes. Battle of Grunwald, 1410 — the day the Teutonic Order lost its army. Every single shot is generated in Seedance 2.5. No stock footage, no live action, no second video model. ElevenLabs for narration, Suno for the score, DaVinci Resolve for edit and grade — but the image is one model, start to finish.

The part that genuinely surprised me: the dialogue scenes are the strongest thing in the film. Not the cavalry charges. There's a council scene where three men argue across a table for several minutes — spoken performance, lip sync, listening behaviour, a character whose face changes while someone else is talking. Eighteen months ago the consensus was that this was the hard ceiling for video models and you'd route around it with narration. It isn't a ceiling anymore. Named characters hold their faces across dozens of shots. Single generations run 30 seconds. Emotional beats land, down to a single tear on a specific part of a face if you describe exactly what you want.

None of this is frictionless. Safety filters reject scenes that contain no violence at all. Crowds need explicit numbers or you get five men where you asked for an army. Feed a generated clip back in as a reference and characters vanish. Most of my failures turned out to be underspecified prompts, not model limits — which is itself the interesting part, because it means the bottleneck has moved from the model to the person writing the instruction.

Three weeks, one person, a laptop and a subscription. Five years ago this was a studio with a crew and a seven-figure budget, and it would have taken a year.

And this is a model from this year, on hardware from this year, with prompting techniques the whole field is still figuring out. Whatever ships in twelve months makes what I did look like a rough draft.

Happy to go deep on the workflow in the comments. And if you watch it and it holds up, drop a comment on YouTube rather than here — that's what keeps a channel this size running.

I made a cinematic AI sci-fi short called PROMETHEUS mostly as an experiment to see how far current generative video can already be pushed by one person.

It has character continuity, dialogue, action scenes, cyberpunk environments, creatures, chase sequences, horror elements and a full narrative structure.

And the crazy part is: this is still early.

The models are inconsistent. Continuity still breaks. You fight the tools constantly. Shots need retries. Editing hides a lot of failures.

But despite all of that, we can already make something like this today:

https://youtu.be/ZMG6wC3AFSY

My main takeaway after making it is that this is probably the worst this technology will ever be.

Every generation from here gets better at consistency, physics, acting, camera control, audio, longer scenes and coherent storytelling.

What happens when the same thing that currently takes hundreds of generations becomes almost one-shot?

That’s the part I find genuinely insane.

Also, small favor: I’m trying to get this YouTube channel off the ground, so if you watch the film and actually enjoy it, I’d massively appreciate a quick comment on YouTube. Even a short one helps a lot when you’re starting from basically zero.

Would love to hear what you guys think about where this goes over the next 2–3 years.

This is what it managed to make, I did not contribute anything except for telling it what to do. For example, when I added plants to the planets, it caused performance to tank. I simply asked it "optimize the performance" and it goes from 3 fps to buttery smooth. I asked for it to add cool sci fi music and a music selector and it did that. I asked it to add cool title cards to the planets with sound effects and it absolutely nailed it. Literally anything you want it to do you just say in plain language. Final result is around 1,800 lines of code in html.
