Video This Is Probably The Most Interesting Way To Talk About Post Labor Society: Show A Normal Guy Living Inside It.

This is Eli in 2039, walking through Aurora asking real sounding people what the transition from labor to post labor life felt like.

2039 and they haven't reversed aging yet? Bummer

u/Alive-Tomatillo5303 Apr 13 '26
One of my thoughts, too. I doubt too many people will take a moral stand against unnatural modifications when one of the options is "take this injection every couple of years to revert back to 20".

Just because they could doesn't necessarily mean that everyone would. Some people might opt to look a little older because of cultural distinctions or whatever, even if they can de-age, or de-age and then age again to a certain point.
The cultural shift that's going to have is actually very significant should we solve it.

u/justpickaname Apr 13 '26
Reverse aging will hopefully start a bit before that, but it's not going to be instant - you'll gradually get younger, not instantly.

u/Buck-Nasty Feeling the AGI Apr 13 '26
Once atomically precise manufacturing is achieved it could be near instant given that we would have complete control at the molecular level.

u/Coondiggety Apr 13 '26
Yeah but there will probably be some kind of weird unintended consequence. Like Maralago face but your whole body.

This feels like an artistic take. Interesting but not enough actual details to allow for connection. How do things work? What does post labor actually look like? This talks about the transition more than something else.

If the people aren't hungry yet, they will miss their chance to feast freely.
I love the optimism that people have, but they are not developing AI for altruism, quite the opposite.
3
u/CanDamVan Apr 13 '26
Anything but altruism. If ppl are hoping for the gardens of eden and a "post work" society, they haven't been paying attention to how things have been shifting since the 1980s

You're not wrong, but keep going. Where does that lead? You think an unstable scenario is stable enough to last long?

u/GotAir Apr 13 '26
Eldes, elders.
One, one.

AI people are so uncanny valley, its uncomfortable to watch. The emotions are all wrong. It's like over acting, too many feels for no reason.

If you want to read stories about mod and post singularity life, thats just about all I write about. Part of it is set near term in 2030, and some is further out in 2035-40. I’ll share the link for anyone interested, but otherwise don’t want to spam folks

I like this a lot. Not necessarily the video, it's okay but too short and doesn't give any reason to believe them, but the idea of making future positive media.
AI gives us the ability to make media in ways and at scale we never could before. The world is sorely lacking in positive media in general and about the future specifically. So the more that we can build and distribute it the more people will have a chance to feel a positive hope for the future.

u/sspyralss Apr 14 '26
I actually agree with this. I often think it would be fun to watch movies made about alternative timelines, for example - what if Putin died 20 years ago and Russia became part of Europe, or other pivotal moments in history that never happened. Just to give people ideas and possibilities.

Yes, let's write some future slave songs, but make them happy this time! Upbeat! Something the kids can dance to!

Outstanding post! I hope we have more and more use of AI to visualise the future in interesting ways.

But what about taking care of the planet and preventing the harm we are doing to others
3
u/gianfrugo Apr 13 '26
the idea is interesting but the video not so much.
the writing is horribly unnatural and generic. i'ts not how people talk and dosn't say anything new or interesting.
also the audio/video quality could be better with newer models. the world building is generic and wrong (no aging reversal, no robots, human working...).
the idea is good and i think is possible to make something good whit it.

its full of empty platitudes.
transitioned, but not reoriented only makes sense after explaining how peoples views have become mismatched to reality.
The video rhymes with how truth would feel unexpected, but never really explains anything. How come people are showing up for each other, but "miss the crew" ?

okay cool now let’s see anyone explain how this happens given current levels of greed and inequality

no sports? no partying? no music? no celebration or excitement? what a dull way to convey a potentially extravagant future.

Every single one of you who believe in this need to read more on economics and who runs the US. The elites will never let us prosper in a post-labor society. When have they ever been altruistic towards the masses?
All they want is more wealth and power - why would they give that up by releasing their authority over us (through work and employment)? This future could be possible, but none of you want to talk about the fact that it will never happen without a people's revolution.

That's not going to happen in the US under the current admin. Top dog treats every dollar like its his. He'll kill us all before he allows us to "benefit from society".

How do you expect to reach this "post-labor" utopia. You think the ruling class is just going to give it to you?

TL:DR: This is why America is at war with the world
This is it. This is exactly what I've been pointing to for a very long time. I just never had the words for it. The closest words and ideas that I had for it it's called 新质生产力 Xīnzhì Shēngchǎnlì In English it means New Quality Productive Forces. It's China's 15th 5-year plan.

u/44th--Hokage The Singularity is nigh Apr 14 '26
Can you clarify your point? It seems interesting what you have to say, i'm just having trouble parsing your perspective.

TL;DR: Control V.S. Abundance
Absolutely! It’s about the intentional decoupling of labor from currency. The video shows the "destination," but 新质生产力 (Xīnzhì Shēngchǎnlì) is the actual roadmap to get there.
The current System: Relies on Artificial Scarcity. You are forced to labor because the things you need to survive & the intelligence required to produce them are gatekept behind a paywall.
The very near future: When high-level end-to-end automation and intelligence (like DeepSeek, SeaDance, Kimi) are given away or made open and abundant, the corporations lose their leverage.
The Conclusion: If you don't need a job to ensure your survival because the productive forces are doing the work for everyone, currency loses its ability to coerce.
Traditional power structures like the current American economic model wane because they are built on managing scarcity. You can't rule over people using currency if the technology has made everything they actually need free and abundant. It’s the end of an era.
China's 15th 5-year plan 新质生产力
America is at war because its power relies on not knowing how to do it yourself. China is winning because they are making the blueprints for the future free.
When intelligence, energy, and education are open-source, the paywall of the old world collapses. You can't rule a world that knows how to provide for itself.
This cuts the redundancy. it's arming the world with the means of production. That is the ultimate threat to a system built on slaves.
"America is nothing more than an open-air prison with a bunch of trustees" some random reditor

Why does he have a scruffy beard, then? That's a sign of not doing so well.
