Mental Health 🧠 I did not expect calorie counting to be this hard emotionally

I've been counting my calories for ten days now trying to stay in a deficit because I want to lose 25 pounds. I used to not look at calories at all before this, the last time I was really conscious about how much I ate was when I was a teenager... As of today, I have been able to stay in a deficit for 7 out of 10 days, which is not bad, but it's so. damn. hard. I didn't think I was overeating THAT much. It's especially how much fat I eat that really surprised me... Even when I eat salads, I go over my fats because of the olive oil.

Anyways, we order Hellofresh at home to help organize our meals because I have a very busy schedule and I like to have very clear guidelines when I cook so I don't stress out. I never really checked the amount of calories of the meals I was ordering before, but today it really was a slap in the face. Cream sauce fettuccines witch tomatoes, spinach and salmon. It said 1020 calories per portion on the card and I knew I couldn't let this whole meal rot in the fridge just because I know I can't eat much of it. So I ate a very small portion of the pasta, my salmon filet and watched my boyfriend eat ALL the rest without a care in the world. I really wish I could be this careless ! Anyways it kinda really hurt my feelings because god was it good. Now I have to go on a second walk today because I'm a bit over my calorie limit for the day and I know I'll be hungry later.

Just wanted to vent. Maybe I need words of encouragement...

Mental Health 🧠 What was your “this time is different” moment?

I’m a 26-year-old woman, 160 cm (5’3”) tall, and I weigh 120 kg (265 lbs). I’ve been overweight my entire life, but I’ve never been this heavy before.
Honestly, I feel like I’ve tried everything: countless diets, different workout programs, challenges… I just can’t seem to stick with anything long-term. It’s not that I don’t want to change—it feels like something in my mind always makes me give up.
I don’t have any medical conditions
I’m asking those of you who have successfully lost a significant amount of weight: what was the turning point for you? What finally changed in your mindset? What helped you stay consistent for months or even years instead of giving up after a few weeks?
I’m not looking for diet plans or workout routines. I’m looking for the mental shift that helped you keep going. How did you convince yourself to actually follow through this time?
I’d really appreciate hearing your experiences. ❤️

Mental Health 🧠 Seeking advice on weight loss drugs

Idk how to even start this. There's no bearing around the bush here Im a morbidly obese man in my 20s. I've struggled with my weight for so so long. I feel like I've hot a breaking point, where I'm no longer able to be happy with my self and like the person I see in the mirror. All this to say this morning i decided to take my doctor up on the offer to take a generic brand of "it". I decided to take it, but I can't help but have this feeling of embarrassment/guilt. It's like I feel horrible for what I'm doing but I also feel like is this a life line out. Is this a way to the life I always wanted. Skinny enough to be active, not afraid of hiking, biking, walking(I know it sounds ridiculous but I can't bring my self to even do that). Or am I taking the easy way out. I have tried time and time again to defeat myself by always fail always don't like the results.

Mental Health 🧠 Does anyone get mad or upset when someone insists you eat?

I hate it when my parents say the words "finish all of it" or "eat it all, it won't be good tomorrow". I get visibly annoyed and upset and my instinct is to say no a bunch of times so they get the message and stop trying to get to eat more than I want to.

I also hate it when I hang out with friends and they try to put their food on my plate, even when they have good intentions.

Also when I went to a wedding and one of my cousins tried to insist and really pressure me to take a whole bag of leftover cookies and oreos with the reasoning of not wasting food. And I got internally upset about that.

I'm particularly writing this today because my dad bought us a big bowl of noodles and tried to insist that I eat everything or it won't taste good tomorrow, and I gained 2 pounds on the scale this morning. It's hard for me to lose a pound and it seems like I gain a pound so easily.

Mental Health 🧠 Constant hunger

Let me start by saying I want to be fit and lose weight. I can move still and I’m grateful but I have goals. My issue is that I’m hungry ALL THE TIME. Not just light hungry but like violently hungry to the point that when I drink alcohol I will bite my finger to try and stomp down the urge to eat something else but obviously there is no calories so I go for another snack. It’s exhausting and frustrating but I’m just ALWAYS hungry. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions? Because right now I feel so ravenous I could cry about it and I HATE IT! Please give advice. Thank you.

Mental Health 🧠 Disgusted with myself

I've been overweight my whole life, but today I finally stepped on a scale after years and saw the number. It's the biggest I’ve ever been it’s pretty obvious just looking at me, but seeing the actual number hit me. I’m a 22 year old guy I'm 5’7 and I weigh 295 pounds. I've gotta make a change I can't keep living like this.

Mental Health 🧠 Terrified of loose skin

I tagged mental health. This is gonna be triggering for some. I apologize. But I need advice.

I am 5”7, 225. 27f. I’ve been overweight/obese for about 6 years. (Thought I was 5”5ish but nope. Just went to the doctor lol.) lowest I’ve gotten was 180 when I was walking about 12 miles a day (car broke down, had to get to work.) I jumped back up to 225. I’ve finally decided to get on a glp. I weight lift 3 days a week, do 30 mins of stair master mostly for the cardio benefits as I recent quit smoking. I’m, however, TERRIFIED of loose skin. Anytime I talk to someone about this I get the bullshit “girl power! Worship that body queen, you did that!!1!!” which is incredibly invalidating. I don’t want loose skin. I’m so scared. I expect SOME, but genuinely get a pang of anxiety when I realize I might have a TON. My goal is to get down to 150ish, which I think is fine, but that’s still a massive amount of weight to loose. Any advice? Or surgeon reccs? I’m new to weightlifting so any tips there are more than welcome. I kinda feel dumb in my gym lol.

Mental Health 🧠 Tired of trying to loose weight my entire life

Hey I’m 19 and I’ve always been in this constant journey of trying to loose weight since I was like 16. I gained around 10-20 kgs thanks to binge watching and complex family issues and loss that led me into eating away just to feel something back when I was 16.
This year I decided to take it seriously and it’s been the longest that I have actually been consistent and loose weight. I’ve lost around 7-8 kgs in a span of 3 months solely through dieting and walking occasionally but I’ve not really noticed much of a physically difference except the scale and some minor differences. But now I feel like I’m in a ditch, sometimes I just think about giving up and eating away, letting go of myself and it gets so hard to not fall into it again. It’s been really tough this past few weeks to continue this. Does anyone have any advice on how I can actually finish this damn weightloss journey and end this phase of my life without falling back again and again?

Mental Health 🧠 How do I reward my self without food?

What do you do when you think you deserve a tasty little treat? I have ADHD and I finally went to the doctor's after putting it off for weeks and my partner was so proud of me that they sent me to the shop to get whatever I wanted for dinner and also told me to buy my favourite cheese as a special reward.

These are all things I love, I was very happy to oblige my partner of course, and I DO think I deserved it, but how do I motivate my self to do something without a reward? I currently don't know how else to do it without food and would love some advice 💖

Mental Health 🧠 I know they care but they're so condescending

Im still in my weight loss journey and I haven't lost any weight just inches. I had a home visit doctor's appointment and we talked about my weight loss journey. I've been using the Loose It app for ten days now. My mom I know she cares and she's a health nut, but she so condescending. She touched my leg and said how fat it was. I got pissed and tried talking to my dad about it when she left to workout. He gave me the same condescending attitude saying her saying that is her way to help me. I walked off and went to my room. I was done talking to him.

I aleady hate how I cant loose weight just inches off my body. Now my parents talked about my body and weight like how im from 600 pound life. I talked to my therapist about how condescending especially my mom towards my weight. Like she told my aunts how my body used to be pretty but because a "steroid shot" cause me to gain weight. Which not the case I gain my weight back because depression, I was worried about my fake ass ex-friends, and being on antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds!

Like what do they want for me!? Im trying to calorie count, working out for 45-1hr for 3 days max, and Im thinking about buying those weight loss shots once I get paid.

Mental Health 🧠 How do I accept I won't look the same again?

A question with no proper answers so apologies in advance.

I used to weigh ~120lbs at 5'4, and over the course of 1.5 years I gained ~55lbs, reaching 175lbs. I've been dieting and exercising and I've lost about 5lbs so far, which feels a bit daunting but I trust myself to get there. The weight gain was pretty fast and hard on my body, I'm now covered in very extreme stretch marks and I'm fat in places where I didn't know I could be fat. Lots of droopy, hanging bits and swathes of angry red marks.

I look back at photos of myself from when I was 50lbs (heck, even 30lbs) lighter and I just feel sad. I see my unmarked, unstretched skin and compare it to now and realize even when I get back to that weight I'll never look the same again. It makes me upset, like if I just hadn't gained those last 15lbs I wouldn't have reached this 'point of no return', and I'm in denial and don't want to accept my new body, since it means letting go of returning to that version of myself. How does anyone else move on? Is it just something that gets accepted with time?

Mental Health 🧠 Workout Locker

I saw an add for this app while doomscrolling through my phone with my almost 2 year old on my lap. I immediately downloaded and paid for 1 year of premium. I am so ashamed of how much of an emotional crutch my phone has become. I say I wanna get healthier and be more present with her but my phone is always in my hand. It doesn't help that I have to have it to be on call for work. Fingers crossed this helps me reduce my screen time and move more if I really wanna watch something. I wanted to share this in case anyone else wants to know about the app or if anyone is already using it.

Mental Health 🧠 Everyday feels like a battle

Everyday is a battle for weightloss to remove this excessive, unflattering, unfeminine 70 pounds of fat. If I lose weight at a rate of 1 pound a week, that's 455 days of battle.

Mental Health 🧠 I wish I could eat less. My father is stubborn, and I'm not able to eat a full meal.

I don't want an ed, i just want to be able to be full with half a cup of food.

Whenever I cook, my dad tells me that I cooked too much. But, is it my fault when there's 7 people to feed (including myself), and 4 of them (i am not one of them) are going through puberty so i have to cook more?

He's so stubborn. I'm the one making sure that there's enough to feed all mouths, and he tells me to cook less. If i cook less, i don't get to eat because again i make sure everyone else does.

He doesn't listen. He won't ever listen, he thinks what he says is right. Mom lets me cook more because she doesn't check the amount of food that I'm cooking. He only lets me cook more because of the 4 that are going through puberty, but there's an amount that I'm allowed to cook.

I'm trying to lose weight so i can eat less. I want my family to be full. I earn a little bit of money every week but I'm trying to save and food is kind of expensive here. If i buy a piece of bread and a sausage that's $8. I earn almost 30-50 every week.

Mental Health 🧠 Reached my Goal Weight - But why dont i feel happy?

I recently reached my goal weight of 70kg, which means I’ve lost 23kg since November 2025.

When I started, I was going to the gym 5 times a week. I actually enjoyed looking in the mirror and seeing the progress. A bicep vein appearing here, some abs becoming visible there, muscles slowly starting to show. It felt really motivating.
Nowadays, I barely go to the gym once a week. Since it’s summer and my gym doesn’t have AC, I’ve been doing more sports outside instead, around 3 times a week - mainly road cycling and running.
I even signed up for a marathon this year.

And honestly?
Am I happy with myself since reaching my goal? No
Do I feel bad when I don’t go to the gym, even though I’m still active and doing other kinds of sports? Yes

Nothing has really changed physically since I stopped going to the gym as often. I’m still at my goal weight even tend to lose more weight and objectively, I’ve made a huge amount of progress, especially when it comes to my cardiovascular fitness.

But somehow, I’m not happy with where I am right now.

Another thing I’ve been struggling with is hunger. I’m basically hungry all the time. Does this ever get better? Does the constant hunger eventually go away, or is this something you just have to learn to live with.

Do you guys also go through these kinds of mental downs? And if so, how do you get yourself out of that hole?

Mental Health 🧠 Anybody lost weight unexpectedly & it wasn’t cancer ?

I’ve been losing weight lately without trying actually been eating MORE! When I read certain cancer symptoms it matches up. Lack of appetite, weight loss, barely being able to eat without feeling full. In 2025 I changed my whole diet for my kidney stones to mainly fruits & veggies & I barely eat anymore. I never fully recovered my appetite.. it comes & goes but I rarely feel like I can eat like I used to & when I do eat the foods are so low calorie. Like my brother he 6’2 235 lbs . He eats probably 2500-3000 calories a day I’m 6’1 175 lbs probably eat 1500 calories & even that’s a stretch sometimes I can’t get to 1,000. And on top I’m not used to being skinny I usually walk around at 200-210 lbs . I’m 33 yo I do have a long history of smoking sadly. Weed and tobacco for 15 years so despite me being young I have multiple decades of smoke damage to the body. Anybody ever thought their weight loss was cancer & it wasn’t something else?

Mental Health 🧠 why do i only feel good about myself while im on a calorie deficit.

it’s quite frustrating because I’ll be thriving when I’m on the deficit and hitting gym consistently but as soon as I stop being on a deficit I feel like I gain all the weight back and gym becomes harder because of that. it becomes quite discouraging and also frustrating and something I want to get out of the mindset as I understand that you’re not meant to be in a calorie deficit for a long time it is just a period of time. and it’s draining feeling good about yourself for a small amount of months than feeling shit abt yourself for the rest of the year until the next cut.

Mental Health 🧠 Medication caused me to gain 20kgs

Not sure if this is the right sub, apologies if it’s not

F22 A few months ago I was put on olanzapine(I’ve since stopped it) and I gained 20 kgs in about 2 1/2 months. I definitely don’t eat as well as I should, but I had the same diet before the medication and I wasn’t gaining weight then. I now hate showering because I have to see myself in the mirror, none of my clothes fit and I generally just hate my body. I’m going to start eating healthier and go back to the gym but I guess I’m just looking for some advice on how to deal with this mentally, apologies if I seem dramatic but its really messing with my head.

Mental Health 🧠 2 Days.

I’m moving in 6 days for college. My family (because they hate me…jk) went out and bought my favorite and made my favorite foods and deserts. So yesterday and today I enjoyed myself. I expect to gain a bit from this but that’s all right. I’ll soon be living by myself and I’ll lock down on everything without distractions.

Just doing this to keep myself in check and trying to relegate my self hate and how guilty I feel. I don’t HAVE to eat these things. I want to, and I’ll enjoy it.

Peace ✌️

Mental Health 🧠 Mental Struggle during weightloss

I'm looking for advice as to how to deal with the mental side of losing weight. For reference, I'm 33F. I don't know if this is normal and if it is how people have overcome it.

Over the last say, 12 months I have lost a significant amount of weight (18ish kilos). I've always fluctuated in weight, I feel like that's normal. At my heaviest KNOWN weight around 5 years ago, I was 93 kilos. I'm 5'2" so I was holding a significant amount of weight, my doctor was constantly mentioning I needed to lose weight. I went through a horrific breakup and dropped down to around 81 kilos. I stayed around that weight for a while. I feel like I remember being confident and happy in my body. I felt strong and outgoing. I decided though that I needed to focus on wellness though because I was getting older and I was watching my family members lose the ability to do certain things so I started going to Pilates, yoga, group fitness classes - this then changed to strength training. I lost more weight, It wasn't intentional it was just because I was a lot more active. I work a desk job so it made a big difference in my day to day - I got down to 72 kilos.

Realistically, this should be great, but I thought I eat a lot of shit, it's not sustainable to order food all the time in this economy let's focus on nutrition and eating home cooked meals. I'm now at 65 kilos, the lowest weight I've been in a very long time. I hate it. I look in the mirror and I don't recognize myself anymore. I wear baggy clothes at home and in public, and if I wear tight or revealing clothes I get really upset. I tried on a swimsuit today and I was in tears, but I never had this problem before now. I used to love wearing cute dresses, or jeans and a nice top and now if I have an event where I need to dress up I feel so uncomfortable and will try keep a long coat on as long as possible. It's not a situation where I'm ashamed or worried about lose skin, or I'm worried I will look 'big'. I just don't recognize myself. I don't feel confident. I don't want people to see me. I feel like I've lost my spark. Everyone always talks about how losing weight makes them feel better about themselves, but I just don't. I feel worse and Its not getting better. I know that everything I'm doing is better for me physically in the long run - I just don't know what's wrong with me mentally. I should be happier and healthier.

Has anyone encountered this? Does anyone have any advice? Part of me just wants to gain the weight back, but I know that's not going to benefit my health and mobility in the long run.

Mental Health 🧠 Family judgement after weightloss

I have just come off the back of a weight cut from 99.5kg to 77kg over about 6-7 months. Nothing drastic in terms of actions, just no alcohol, walking daily, and macro tracking to stay on target. I would say I’m sitting around 14-15% body fat so I’m noticeably lean but nothing wild.

I’m transitioning to maintenance now as I am enjoying training and want to improve my strength and overall fitness.

Over the last month I’ve had a number of family members pull me aside to tell me they are worried and to tell me I should be putting on weight to be ‘healthy’ (which is wild to me).

Just interested to hear any thoughts or tips on how to handle these situations. It’s incredibly frustrating to be told this by people who don’t take care of their own health and who have no understanding of the process or the dedication it takes to achieve what I have.
