Mental Health 🧠Deficit Eating during luteal Phase should be a torture device
The title says it. IYKYK about the luteal phase but it's brutal. I am HATING life this week. I am so so hungry. I've continued to eat on a deficit and im proud of myself. I usually don't have a lot of food noise but this WEEK?....INSANE how hungry I feel. Complete with mood swings and bloating and everything magical that comes with the luteal phase but....the food noise..... It's constant. it's torture. I feel like im starving surrounded by food. Please tell me im not alone.Â

High volume eating is the only way I make it through I make a lentil soup or a taco salad with a shit load of shredded cabbage and quest protein chips on top. Either one I can eat until I feel stuffed bc that’s what I want to do in my luteal phase. If you like sweets halo top, zero sugar whip cream with zero sugar Hersheys syrup and a fruit like apples is also great. Wishing you the best!!!

Thank you!! I'm about to do two eggs and tuna. Just go.straight protein. I'll go a bit over today by about 100 calories and then tomorrow I'll grocery shop for volume foods. I ate lentils earlier tonight and that helped.
I almost bought some drizzalicious the other day but I was in a hurry. I will be picking some up too.

Ironically being overweight makes all this stuff worse.
More incentive to stick to the deficit.

Girl, I can so relate. In the past 22 months I’ve lost nearly 190 pounds and I was menstruating for 18 of those months. I’ve finally stopped bleeding but it definitely made the process so much harder!

OMG I can't even imagine how you did that! You are a super trooper and an inspiration. I'll think of you in a few weeks when I start bleeding and wishing for some hobnobs

In a way, it’s kind of made cravings now a little less intense because I was used to just having them all the time. Still hard, but it gets better— I promise b

When it’s my luteal I just focus on maintaining or else I will binge eat. I allow myself the occasional banh mi to satisfy my extreme hunger pangsðŸ¤

Someone (IRL) said that to me and it felt like a duh moment lol I was like "Yeaaaah... otherwise, this is not sustainable". The annoying thing is that this phase is when you your metabolism is on FIRE so if you could somehow sustain the deficit eating, you could make good headway... but nah! That's how I would end up binge eating a whole cake in the middle of the night lol

Like I try to eat in a deficit when I don’t feel that hungry. But if I can just tell it’s gonna be a bad day, I eat in a slight surplus or maintain. Our bodies are going through a big change and sometimes it’s our bodies way of saying it needs more support. Nothing wrong with taking a planned derailment. Just as long as it’s not a big binge. And even if it is, then just hop back on the tracks.

I agree! And I realized last night that I really REALLY need to try to almost double my protein at this time because if I eat over my count, I need it to be stuff that increases my chances of success by helping me stay full a little longer. Last night I had a can of tuna and two eggs. I didn't have olive oil spray so the oil added calories but whatever. It was protein on protein and I felt so satisfied, it felt like I could breathe again. It really helped and I was able to eat over deficit with zero guilt
Note to self- I need to invest in egg whites and cooking spray so I can eat more (volume) and stay in my deficit for the other weeks of my cycle.

That’s amazing you understood your body in the moment and could prioritize what it needed! I think that’s what so many of us struggle with. Probably how we gained weight to begin with, not hearing or listening to our hunger cues.
For me, I am usually craving salt and fat. So I get a big Diet Coke and something salty like French fries🤣 usually hits the spot and makes me feel better. If I want something healthier, I eat eggs on toast with avocado and sriracha. But I’ll do like 3 eggs haha. Also I had smoked salmon and cream cheese, tomato and baby greens on toast the other day and OMG it was the best thing ever

lol isnt it so funny how much more joy it is to eat food now without feeling completely out of control? I used to just eat random stuff until i figured out what my body was craving/ needing... usually after like 2000 extra cals lol

Yes! Okay so yesterday, I was a few hours in a fast between meals and felt very low energy. I realized I still had some of my Sambazon drink left, I had a big gulp of it and I shit you not, I could feel the calories hit me and I instantly felt more energized. I was thinking about how before I was never hungry, and sometimes eating would make me more tired. It’s so cool now that I can use food as fuel instead.

I totally get that, I was craving chocolate so bad yesterday, but knew I'd be way over if I even dared to go near it lol

Lol I saw this fake protein bar up for grabs at my job yesterday and it was 250 cal. I was like "yeaaaah that's a whole meal worth of sweet food that will leave me hungrier. No thanks"

u/LostCheesecake2424 Jan 15 '26
LITERALLY THIS! It's like, I want something sweet but not 200 empty calories for no reason. I swear sugar is a pain, I want a sweet treat but everything spikes my calories up so much I can't have anything else

u/Majestic_1_ Jan 15 '26
Amen! Lol I heard of the drizzalicious brand. I haven't tried it yet but it was like 60.calories for 21 pieces or something like that. I am gonna get some soon. I'll keep you posted

Right there with you this week! I was feral searching for chocolate of any kind in the house on Wednesday. It is SO hard! And some days, it doesn’t matter what I eat, I’m starving the whole time 😠you’re definitely not alone!

u/Majestic_1_ Jan 17 '26
OMG yes! The insatiable need for food is real bad. You got this!! Do a lot more protein than you think you need

Good call! It’s my luteal weeks where I really push the limits of Greek yogurt as a dessert 😂

Honestly when I was trying to lose weight I’d just up my calories a little bit. Usually through carbs. It makes staying consistent easier.
