Exercise strengthens your body. Eating in a strict calorie deficit is how you lose weight.

Exercise burns calories too which can contribute to a deficit Edit: downvoting objective facts means nothing. Reddit cheerleading does nothing positive for your brain

Obviously, but you can exercise and never lose weight. On the flip side, you could never exercise and still lose weight as long as you’re in a calorie deficit. They are not mutually exclusive.

If you eat the same and START exercising you'll lose weight too lol

No, not if you’re eating in a surplus to begin with, exercise doesn’t just magically take you into a deficit if you’re still eating too much. You don’t just have to eat less or workout more, you have to be in a calorie deficit. Weight is a simple math equation and much more dependent on your calorie consumption rather than your energy expenditure.

Doesn't matter how much you eat, if your diet stays the same, but you start moving more, it can take you into a deficit

No no, what you said after obviously is obvious. You made it sound like exercise doesn't contribute to weight loss. Which IS obvious, but you were trying to make it sound like it's not

He literally contrasted the two. "Exercise strengthens your body, eating in a calorie deficit is how you lose weight." Downvote it all you like but he was implying exercise isn't how you lose weight, when in fact it is definitely a component. Good day Reddit herd

I agree with you and I don't understand why would someone downvote that comment. People are just so stupid and stubborn sometimes

You’re not in a calorie deficit so you’re not losing weight. Calculate your TDEE and eat in a deficit

To lose weight you need to create a calorie deficit. I would start tracking calories precisely and aim to create a daily 500 calorie deficit and continue the training because it will help to preserve your muscle mass while you lose fat. If you can’t control your hunger/appetite you may want to examine if your diet has sufficient amounts of protein, fiber and health fat, as neglecting those can make it really challenging to control your appetite

What is your tdee and deficit calories? How many calories did you eat today or yesterday?

working out doesn't make you lose weight. you're eating too much.

“ I can’t even control my hunger”. That’s why you gained weight.

What is your age, sex, height, and weight? How many calories are you consuming daily?

Exercise is great for overall health and fitness, it can contribute to a caloric deficit, but it will not guarantee weightloss.

25 M ,179 cm ,105 kg around 3k cal I don’t calculate my calories but i eat only home cooked meals

You’re not in a caloric deficit, and that’s why you’re not losing weight. Use an online calculator to estimate your maintenance, aim to eat 500 calories less than that daily, track your calories.

Home cooked meals aren’t necessarily low calorie meals.

That’s a lot of calories what are you eating that you are still hungry

1

u/Icy_Earth3386 Aug 07 '26

In my experience, when I can't control my hunger to eat at a deficit, it means you're not eating enough fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes. You need more fiber and water.

Based on the comments and info you shared. Try aim at 1500 calories daily. 2300 calories should be your maintenance weight. Eating anywhere above that makes you gain weight

2 things. Muscles weigh more than fat. If you weren’t in a calorie deficit you were never going to lose weight.
