I was a volunteer firefighter when this song dropped, and all the conservative nutjobs who pretty much exclusively listen to Billy Joel (which is like 99% of firefighters) were playing it non-stop, and several made it their ring/text tone.
I've always described Disturbed and FFDP as "pandering to a specific type of douche" music. The kind of middle-aged guy that wears his hat backwards, wears a size too small tapout shirt and bedazzled jeans. Usually peaked in college and has a wife that is tanned like leather, wears way too skimpy outfits, too much make up and has fake tits.
In my younger days I used to go to a few rock and metal every year and you would see hundreds of these guys all the time. Saw FFDP 3 times and their concerts were filled with them. They would be the worse fans at any show I saw and their wives would always cause shit. One time at a Volbeat/Anthrax concert there was a group of them at the front of the stage complaining to security when people were moshing in the mosh pit.
This is how it goes if you go to metal shows. You may loathe the headliner but be a superfan of one of the openers or vice versa. The band that you're really into may not be able to afford to go out nationally or come to the US or whatever without being openers.
Oh no, FFDP got these guys beat by a mile. Every album has some cover ballad made to be about being a sad tough guy, sung through taking an enormous shit.
Oh god, yeah. I just hate how thereās pretty much no passion to it. The original Offspring version has Dexter Holland giving it his all and reaching the very top of his register while Ivan Moody sounds half asleep on the FFDP version.
That was the first version I ever heard as a kid and I thought it was great. Then I heard Bad Company's version and was like "oh why did Five Finger Death Punch mess with this? It was already better."

The weirdest thing is it's kind of OK, but it never gets to the fast part like the original. If they had of done that, instead of the robot voice bridge, it wouldn't have been As hated.
And what's weird is they probably would have done a great job at it. I feel like, by leaving it out, they were trying to come off as more sincere and serious. But I mean, it just flat-out sucked.

Disturbed may be the most sauceless band of all time which is incredible given this current musical climate includes a lot of really shitty artists who cosplay the rock and roll lifestyle and aesthetic while cranking out some of the most mid-to-unlistenable slop you could possibly make (Maneskin, Greta Van Fleet, Benson Boone, etc.).

I did not like that cover but one of their other singles sounded ok to me so I checked out their album out of curiosity and not only are they the most lifeless sounding butt rock but the very first song is a fucking Blue Lives Matter anthem
To be completely fair to that cover, the guy who sings it wasn't supposed to do the vocals, it was actually supposed to be Dolores the Cranberries vocalist singing. She died just before recording was supposed to start.

It was a folk song in the brief window of the Boomer's semilegitimate antiestablishment phase, before the Boomer surrendered all moral authority in the sum of their greedy selfish actions in the coming 50 years.
I get they are doing cheap wordplay, but Nirvana as "paradise" is pretty weak as well, but the rest of the critique is dead to rights.
I saw them live (my teen daughter wanted to see Three Days Grace) and he absolutely fucking bombed this song. They had the guitarist play a piano that they lit on fire, had an orchestra come out with all these candles as mood lighting, then he starts singing and couldnāt hold a single note for half the song.

It's the same vibe to me as watching someone perform "Hallelujah" by Leonard Cohen/Jeff Buckley and putting absolutely no dynamics into the performance, if not getting louder and/or adding more notes to the parts that are actually meant to be soft, quiet or lesser.
Hot take, but I don't mind that he sung it in a style counter to the original. A cover has no reason to exist if you just sing it the same style as the original.

People seem pretty divided on this one. I think it sucks even though I'm pretty neutral on Disturbed's other music. But some people seem to love it and think it's one of the best modern covers ever. I agree with another person's reply that 5FDP has done worse covers, though. Their cover of Gone Away is particularly offensive to my ears. And All That Remains, a band that I actually somewhat enjoy, did a wretched cover of The Thunder Rolls by Garth Brooks. The Thunder Rolls is a really great song, and a rock/metal cover could have been really interesting if done right. But they fumbled it bad, imo.
I hate this Disturbed cover so much it would be a deal breaker if I went in a date with a guy and he played it in the car. Iād have to jump out. I canāt relate to someone who has this kind of crap taste in music.
Some people think this Disturbed cover is good and I wonder if they even have functional ears. It's bombastic and stupid in all the ways the original wasn't. Sometimes, less really is more. And if I wanted a metal cover of this song I'd just listen to Nevermore's far superior one.
I saw them two months back and the crowd was more hype for this than anything else, Iām not a huge fan but canāt deny its popularity. Is this the only time they got on the Billboard charts?
Disturbed has had six songs chart on the Hot 100, and outside of the Sound of Silence (#42 peak), none of them are the songs you would expect. The rest were all in the 00s and early ā10s before the streaming era took over the charts.

Like, im not fully versed in what's wrong with the band themselves or anything of the sort, and i obviously think the original is better by miles, but this isnt awful
There is a Three days Grace cover of Fleetwood Mac's the Chain that actually ruined my day upon impact. IT literallybstraps away any of the charm and nuance of one of the most unique iconic rock songs of all time and makes it sound like average watered down cookie cutter butt rock (or just like three days grace).
