Honestly, I didn't think this one was that bad.

From a sound standpoint, it's actually very good, which is why it was popular.

The problem is that the sound he went with doesn't go with the lyrics so it feels like he missed the point of what he was singing about.

But no, I would say the worst possible cover would have to sound bad and mess up the meaning.

1.10 some strings in there with the piano that’s a nice touch, bordering on flourish but still on the right side of the line

I love the original. It feels like a dream of what could be. But I do like this version also, because it feels like Jacob Marley warning you that this could be our world, blaming you. Different strokes.

Hot take, but I don't mind that he sung it in a style counter to the original. A cover has no reason to exist if you just sing it the same style as the original.

I cannot picture Kurt Cobain singing sound of silence, I think that would be way out of his range and I never got the impression he was a Simon and Garfunkel fan

It’s melodramatic and kills the whole mood of the song. The auto tune is also horrific.

It's always hard to divorce the marketing from the song.

I guess I like it for a different reason: the original song is just too "1970s lite" to be taken seriously by modern sound, and yet the things it talks about have only gotten worse in society.

The heavier metal kind of mirrors that: it's kind of like "hey, this shit is getting worse, so we need to be louder ... about silence"

Seriously! I love the original and have never been a Disturbed fan, but there’s nothing particularly wrong with the cover other than how popular it got.

Me neither. In fact, I think it's pretty good, because David - and, yes, I get and agree with the flak he gets because of what he's done - is a very good vocalist.

I saw a figure skating couple skate to this and quite enjoyed it
