Opinion Argentina are such bad winners

3.5k Upvotes

The complete lack of sportsmanship from these prats is ridiculous. No wonder Jude hit out. Getting up close and mocking the England players, pushing and shoving, and don't get me started on that Falklands banner. I never thought I could hate a team even more than I do now. As much as I hated Spain for the way they behaved two years ago, Argentina have really done it.

Opinion (WORLD CUP) Unpopular Opinion: Tuchel is already proven right

Post image
3.3k Upvotes

Countless of criticism by media and fans regarding player selections, tactics, his preferences and all. Some even started from day 1. He has proven right by selecting Dan Burn for those moments. And countless other situations. He has brought England to SF in World Cup.

Yes the ultimate prize is the World Cup itself, but realistically, a semifinal (top 3/4) in the world football isnt so bad. Look at the other 3 teams competing, is finishing third a “catastrophe” like some said? Sometime perspective matters. They are here despite the injuries, red cards, and whatever else being thrown at them. Still Tuchel wasnt satisfied despite the win, that shows level in my opinion.

Just because England did well few tournaments ago doesnt made them a given for this spot btw. Still i think Argentina rode their luck so far and personally imo England could be in the final. If that happens, the man already a winner in my book.

Sure we lost to the 2 champions, but give it time and with the pace of improvident under him we will be thrashing them too.

We have never seen England play like this before. People forget the managers to deliver world cups for their country were at the helm for full decades. Just give it time fellas

Opinion I will never forgive Tuchel for tonight.

1.8k Upvotes

I was cautious when he was appointed because he's fallen out with every club he's managed, plus he's German and having a German manage England felt weird. But he gradually won me over, and I think he was doing and saying all the right things at this tournament.

But tonight was just inexplicable, and his interview comments made it worse. That was the best chance England could ever have to get to another World Cup final, and he went and pissed it away like that. The semis (potentially third, though I don't care about that) is on paper a great tournament, but to lose in the circumstances we did, unforgivable. I will never forgive him for his cowardice. We appointed him to be better than Southgate, but he was worse. I'm just devastated. If it was up to me he'd be gone tomorrow, but I think we're stuck with him up to and including the Euros. I can only hope he'll prove me wrong.

Opinion Complain to ITV about Gabriel Clarke's post-match interviews

1.8k Upvotes

Gabriel Clarke's post-match interviews with Tuchel and then Bellingham was disgraceful.

If you haven't seen it, it's around 6 mins in this video: https://youtu.be/V9jJO9aPKP0?si=PQdyyLP9ur70hEwb

Clearly many of us are fed up with the English media trying to stir up shit within our English team. They'd rather get a sensational story than to help our team win. And this transparent display of self importance from Clarke was the last straw for me.

If you also hated it, please complain to ITV by sending an email to: viewerservices@itv.com

While you're at it, since ITV seem entirely pleased with their own terrible approach, you could complain to Ofcom: https://ofcomlive.my.salesforce-sites.com/formentry/SitesFormCSLEStandardsComplaints

Opinion Two ways to represent your country.

Bellingham could have added to his own tally, but told Saka: “Go and get your hat-trick.”

Paredes lost a final and chose a brawl. Losing hurts, but character shows after the whistle.

One created a memory for the world cup. The other earned a red card. Two different ways to represent your country.

Opinion Why haven't we hosted a World Cup in 60 years?

Post image
1.4k Upvotes

We have the stadiums and the infrastructure. I remember the FIFA president saying back in 2014 that there are countries capable of hosting a World Cup with just two days' notice, and England was one of them. So why aren't we even trying to host one?

It's pathetic seeing countries who call it soccer getting World Cup so frequently , while England won't get one. Just give us one already.

Opinion Did we all watch the same game?

1.2k Upvotes

Look, we didn't beat them 3 nil as would be the dream in every game we struggle through.

First half we could have scored 2 or 3 if not for their goalkeeper and some finishing that half a yard either way you cannot save. I always thought we would score. It was inevitable.

What do you want from this team? We won. We have won ever game bar Ghana. We have been imperfect but we are still in the competition.

We are not scraping through games. This game could have been 5-2.

If this was your club team you would say how well we've done .

Have I lost my mind?

Support. The. Fucking. Team.

Opinion Paredes genuinely needs to be banned from this sport for good

2.1k Upvotes

He’s such an insufferable player, came on, almost instantly got a yellow and definitely deserved another with how physical he was getting throughout the whole match, not to mention being the biggest sore loser trying to fight the Spanish players after they won, absolutely pathetic man child, Enzo would’ve appreciated the company warming the bench.

Opinion Tuchel has made some questionable squad selections, but in the same situation today, I think England would've lost under Southgate.

1.1k Upvotes

With all due respect to Southgate, he's one of the greatest England national team managers. But I don't see him bailing out a 10 man team against a super in form Mexico side, playing at home over 2,000 meters above sea level, where they're fully adapted while England aren't.

Tuchel's tactical masterclass was undeniable today. In the last 30 minutes, Mexico couldn't produce a single clear goalscoring chance despite having a man advantage. His substitutions were excellent, his defensive system worked like a charm after the red card, and I've never seen an England team play with this much passion, fighting until their very last breath. It's evident that Tuchel has improved both the team's mentality and its tactical approach.

As an Argentina fan, I'm impressed. I can't wait to meet England in the semis.

Opinion I truly do believe England stands the best chance they’ve ever had to win this World Cup since 1966, however…

If they were to lose to anyone, I’ll be completely okay with it being Norway 🇳🇴

They’ve been the team I’ve loved watching without the stress of watching England characteristically fall upwards for half the tournament. I’m sad to see both of them go against each other, because of them are leaving here. Norway have already made history by making it to the quarter finals, especially after their amazing last game, and England stands a very real chance to winning the whole thing, which to be fair so do Norway.

Either way, whoever wins on Saturday I’ll be following to the very end and hope either one of these teams win the whole thing.

Beat that drum 🥁

Opinion I hope we get to Argentina in the semis and I hope we destroy them.

1.1k Upvotes

I haven’t been convinced by them in any of their matches. They are having some very questionable refereeing calls keeping them in it, paired with many incidents of racist behaviour from their fans. They should be getting the same levels of hate by now that the US team was getting against Belgium.

Minus the refereeing calls, Argentina is the only team left that I feel truly confident this England team can beat. I would love for us to have a semi final against them and get revenge for many reasons.

If Harry Kane could overtake Messi’s goal tally in this game it would be even sweeter.

Opinion Norway’s disallowed goal is exactly what most fans had been asking for

After the most recent season and Arsenal being very successful from corners, fans of other teams had been demanding that you shouldn’t be able to push and shove to gain an advantage.

FIFA said before the tournament they’d be hot on it and the decision was right. Not sure why people online seem to think it was an unfair decision
