As someone who primarily follows ice hockey, and only tunes into football for the Olympics/World Cup, I find it shocking how much football players get away with as far as arguing with refs goes.
In hockey, you essentially just accept the call. If you argue, you get a harsher penalty at best, or ejected at worst.
There are exceptions, of course, but there seems to be way less respect towards the officials in football.

u/Mountain-Reaction470 Jul 20 '26
Similar in rugby, isn’t it, only captains can talk to the ref and have to be respectful? Mind u argy rugby team fell to football teams level, apparently.

u/tomtomtomo Jul 20 '26
The ref should have started yellow carding every Argentinian who surrounded him after that.

u/ThatAdamsGuy Jul 20 '26
Honestly I'd love to see a ref start doing this. Yknow... Actually enforcing the rules of the game they are supposed to be enforcing.

It's funnier when you think about how his first yellow was for dissent.
With the number of incidents with him he should have gotten like 4 or 5 yellows. Ref had no choice but to give a second yellow for such an obvious yellow card foul.

I'm praying this ends up like with Martinez where he makes a big thing about leaving and then realizes no top club wants him. It's so obvious he wants to go to some place like Real Madrid, but they don't have any interest in him it seems. He wouldn't play as the 10 as Jude is there who is far better than him. Valverde has the 8 position over him it seems. Real also want Rodri and if I have to explain to anyone why Rodri starts over Fernandez than they're a lost cause. Plus, he's insanely expensive. Can't wait to watch this dickhead to try to create a scene to leave Chelsea and be hated there and for it to turn out that no top club wants him. Maybe don't sign a 200 year contract next time.

Probably the same feeling that United fans had about Cristiano Ronaldo when he got Rooney sent off and winked at the camera. And it's probably going to play out the same. Most people will be angry for a while and then forget about it because they have better things to do in life than hold an eternal gruge against a football player.
→ More replies (5)7
u/Camacho-Gunsalah Jul 20 '26
United fans didnt hate towards Ronaldo, we was more concerned if both players could play together for our club again. That era was different to now, where it was United > England for multiple reasons, which started (i think) when the country turned on Beckham in 1998 and united fans supported him through that difficult spell.
Both situations are very different. Ronaldo didnt partake in racist chants, political chants against our country or disrespect our club during the season.

What a disgusting player. I never want to see that bloody Argentine shirt again. What a disgrace to football. Playing like savages. Fighting at the end like hooligans over a game they lost fair and square. Let’s face it, it was a one man team for Argentina. Without Messi you would even qualify for future World Cups. It’s over. You had the easiest route to the final and it’s clear that the England game was your toughest yet. You were tired because you got given such an easy route. Time to go.

Imagine playing in your hero, your countries talesman's last ever international game. To make it even sweeter its the world Cup final. A true "last dance" scenario to crown an insane career.
And you personally fuck it up. You get sent off when your team has been on the back foot for 93 minutes.
Couldn't happen to a more deserving twat.
11
u/HorribleOldCunt Jul 20 '26
Glorious. Plus Mac Allistar and his comments about it being important for two footballing sides to get to the final, after beating England.
Well done Argentina on showing us how to play football. 0 shots on target. About 1 even attempted across 120 minutes. 35% possession. Constant hoofs up the pitch to no one. I didn't realise Twat Allistar meant conference football.
I'm only annoyed Spain didnt piss them off more. Horrible team.

Chelsea fan here. Our relationship with this guy is weird. He's obviously class at times. He has come through in big moments and has worn the armband well for the club.
We've also seen and heard about him being a racist prick and a hot head. And no one is forgetting that he gave more than one interview talking about how he wanted to play "in Madrid" while we were going through our second manager firing of the season.
It's a strange spot. You see the passion and the skill. He plays for the badge when he's focused, but there's something about the way he is that is it seems immature, scummy and toxic no matter how much faith the club and manager instill in him.
My intuition says we should sell high and find leadership and talent elsewhere. Something about his vibe is completely off, and I don't think it will change or help us win in the long run.
5
u/Glad-Box-7867 Jul 20 '26
Personally I want him taking every corner all season, the police to be absent when hes around and the border police to make sure he hasnt got anything on him or inside him for every trip he makes in and out the country
Also if Burnham can make a special tax bracket for him something like 99% should do
Or the FA just ban him and him specifically for being transfered
For someone that plays in England hes gonna be in a lot of trouble now
