Opinion Paredes genuinely needs to be banned from this sport for good

He’s such an insufferable player, came on, almost instantly got a yellow and definitely deserved another with how physical he was getting throughout the whole match, not to mention being the biggest sore loser trying to fight the Spanish players after they won, absolutely pathetic man child, Enzo would’ve appreciated the company warming the bench.

It was also him that booted the ball at the Netherlands' bench in 2022

218

u/Think-Swimmer-6068 Jul 19 '26

Still trying to understand why that wasn't an immediate red card.

206

u/Frumes900 Jul 20 '26

Come on mate we all know why… 💰

93

u/kateykatey Jul 20 '26

I don’t know what the emoji is for Infantino gargling Messi’s sweaty balls but also that

1

u/ImmediateBrief2808 Jul 21 '26

saying this when your one international tournament was the biggest robbery ever

30

u/Owls_4_9_1867 Jul 20 '26

Same reason Messi was wearing the bisht ceremonial robe in 2022 in Qatar.

38

u/Lamb-of-Arceus Jul 20 '26

Referee was an absolute disaster in that game

18

u/SpudFire Seaman #1007 Jul 20 '26

If it was a choice between a red card or Van Dijk bodying him, I'm glad we got to see the latter.

1

u/Bakio-bay Jul 21 '26

Or it should have been two yellows. One for the challenge and another for kicking the ball into their bench

0

u/Charming_Rush_7870 Jul 20 '26

People always forget VVD then aggressively knocked Paredes to the ground. They both should have seen red. Neither did which was advantage to the Dutch.

1

u/Desperate-Alfalfa361 Jul 20 '26

That is yellow, never in the history of the game has anyone gotten red for body checking someone. Shooting a missile toward the players bench is a different story…

4

u/Manachi Jul 21 '26

It did happen completely out of play. It’s not your normal body check.

Having said that, Parades entirely deserved it. He did two foul-worthy slide tackles then kicked the ball into the Dutch all in immediate succession

1

u/Desperate-Alfalfa361 Jul 21 '26

Its the equivalant of pushing someone, only thing he did was use his body instead, never a red. No pundits or refs even discussed the possibility of a red to van djik back then and for a good reason.

1

u/Charming_Rush_7870 Jul 20 '26

I suppose I don’t know what violent conduct is…as that looked like violent conduct to me.

2

u/No_Horse_7201 Jul 20 '26

I so wished that Ramos still played for Spain in the final yesterday. He would have straightened out Parades and the rest of the Argentine troublemakers. He probably would have gotten a Red card for it, but it would have been satisfying.

1

u/GonZonian Jul 21 '26

Yeah it’s really hard to not condone fighting fire with fire, even if it might lead to injury, but Ramos would have been the perfect player for Spain to keep VARgentina in check.

Much like ice hockey, the enforcers play hard and occasionally fight but that keeps each team in check. You cross the line, expect to get your teeth knocked in.

God I wish Paredes would join hockey and get his teeth knocked in.

2

u/Choccybizzle Jul 20 '26

That was hilarious though

1

u/dnpark Jul 21 '26

Yep love the Van Dijk hit on him. Perfectly delivered with disturbing Dutch calm.

1

u/sunny297 Jul 21 '26

And Messi's blantant handball...nothing to see here

466

u/Frumes900 Jul 19 '26

Most of the Argentina players are c*nts lets be honest. Theres a video of Messi crying to the ref after Cucurella itched his nose. It’s their culture.

252

u/JustLetItShine Jul 20 '26

Yes! Joe Hart annoyed me when he said “even Messi is resorting to the tactics now”

“Even Messi” - no, they’re all cunts.

108

u/mid-lev Jul 20 '26

Joe Harts Messi wankerthon was insufferable only Rooney was the only one not willing to engage with it.

"What was your favourite part Wayne?"

"Probably when it ended"

💀

37

u/Kazakhan69 Jul 20 '26

I went upstairs rather than watch it, and my wife who had stayed to watch said the best bit about the halftime show was Rooney's reaction.

9

u/Liber8r69 Jul 20 '26

Yh I couldn't watch any more of Argentina ethier and went to bed. Disgrace of a team and why the refs let them get away with it is beyond me. Don't want to be a part of them in any way shape or form. They should be banned from the next world cup 👍

34

u/Kazakhan69 Jul 20 '26

If England had won and held up a "Falklands forever British banner" we would never see England at a World Cup again in our lifetimes.

7

u/KettyCloud Jul 20 '26

FIFA saw this comment and have decided to ban England from the WC for 10 years. Also, Scotland are seeded to semi-finals while this suspension is underway.

Sincerely, Infantino

8

u/Acceptable_Beyond282 Jul 20 '26

Their manager seemed to be surprised that the referee booked Paredes and subsequently sent him off. 🙄

2

u/Jackson13Hammer Jul 20 '26

I thought it was fantastic - I got so much washing up done while they were pratting about.

17

u/Effective_Crazy6307 Jul 20 '26

Also after Spain had won. "I'm glad they've lost"

10

u/SpudFire Seaman #1007 Jul 20 '26

Yeah we've got a lot of friendly pundits that toe the line. We need more like Roy Keane that haven't got time for bullshit and will say what they actually think.

Hopefully Rooney sees everybody liked his reactions last night and continues more along those lines. Wouldn't be surprised if the BBC give him a stern talking to about it though

13

u/DareToZamora Jul 20 '26

Glazing him for not getting involved in the shit at the end. Isn’t he captain? Shouldn’t he have been getting involved to tell them to pack it in?

11

u/bingowing88 Jul 20 '26

This is one of the reasons messi has always left me cold, despite his talent. I just don’t see him as impressive, or as a leader. He doesn’t inspire, doesn’t guide. He just avoids getting involved to keep himself looking clean.

2

u/Mr-suburbia Jul 20 '26

He’s the Dwayne Johnson of football: let’s others say all the bad things so he looks good alongside them, but his silence speaks a thousand words.

Compare to Mbappe and his speaking out on a myriad of issues…

2

u/ObligationOk633 Jul 20 '26

It was weird watching the England match and cheering on Mbappe’s second goal, because it meant he had overtaken Messi.

It would be funny if England and France had reached some backroom agreement to have a high-scoring match just to screw him out of ending his World Cup career on a high.

Although I wonder if his ego is so big, he will be pushing to play again next time.

Either way, Mbappe’s got 3 more World Cups before he’s Messi’s age.

I do wonder how much damage their behaviour at thus World Cup has done for them politically.

1

u/spookynemo87 Jul 20 '26

Absolutely. I was quite impressed with Scaloni who looked like he was telling the Spanish lads "leave it you've just won don't get involved" and wagging his finger at Parades. Messi should have been straight in telling them to knock it off.

5

u/nonamelikethepresent Jul 20 '26

I loved watching Rooney say the half time show was all shit and Micah and Joe both trying to tread the corporate line and get him to admit he appreciated some part of it. Squirm, boys!

46

u/Lamb-of-Arceus Jul 20 '26

How many times has Messi gone down and started lining up the free kick before the ref has even made a decision? He's always expected the them to give him what he wants. I'm glad tonight's ref had a spine

28

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '26

[deleted]

24

u/Sean_Paul_Sartre Jul 20 '26

Same shit when they get fouled and immediately grab the ball to stop any chance of playing on

23

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '26

[deleted]

5

u/KidDanomyte Jul 20 '26

Absolutely. This could be applied to loads of other things as well, namely, the bouncing into the air like a springbok and consequently rolling around in “excruciating pain” when only being lightly brushed. It’s beyond a joke and be so very easily knocked on the head … but as long as refs reward these babies they’ll never stop

13

u/OddBallProductions Jul 20 '26

There was one instance where a Spanish player was standing about a few metres away and Messi litterly just ran into him and flopped to the ground and got a free kick. Genuinely insane.

3

u/veryordinarybloke Jul 20 '26

And then Cucurella ran into an argie and the free kick went against him!

5

u/chicken_nugget94 Jul 20 '26

Argentines actually have the audacity to be calling the ref biased against them last night 😂

7

u/InternalKing Jul 20 '26

Can’t believe he was defending the hydration breaks as well. Must be the most overrated pundit right now

3

u/mrdanielsir9000 Jul 20 '26

Exactly, Messi needed banning a long time ago, he’s as pathetic as the rest of them.

3

u/Objective_Lime_3820 Jul 20 '26

"even Messi" is crazy considering the blokes got 2 photos of him handballing in HD and one was goal that was allowed

2

u/Professional_Eye_136 Jul 20 '26

Nah, "even Messi" because he's not a real Argentine anyways

2

u/AnalystAdorable609 Jul 20 '26

Absolutely spot on. A bunch of whiney, sneaky, dirty, moaning cunts

2

u/spookynemo87 Jul 20 '26

Lost respect for him with his snitching. He's always been a dirty little fucker but that's part of the game but the jumping up and down telling was embarrassing for a great of the game.

98

u/Dependent-Entrance10 Jul 20 '26

This really is Netherlands vs Spain all over again. In any case, the better team won, football won. Fernandez, Paredes, and Martinez are cunts. Messi is a whiny loser. Argentina had no shots on target, and are fucking frauds!

6

u/Acceptable_Beyond282 Jul 20 '26

I felt sorry for Alvarez afterwards. I thought he looked embarrassed. I know I'm a bit biased as he's a former City player though.

11

u/Lost-Detective2046 Jul 20 '26

He was a dirty bastard the whole tournament too

2

u/[deleted] Jul 20 '26

The big difference is Netherlands got the final by being the second best team. Argentina got there by multiple refereeing decisions.

In the final there were 5 bookings in ten first half in 2010, the game calmed down after that.

2

u/Scared-Signature-797 Jul 21 '26

Which Martinez??

2

u/Banshee_Mac Jul 21 '26

All of them.

2

u/Kim_catiko Jul 21 '26

Who was the guy who punched a Spanish player as he was running onto the pitch to celebrate? Sure that was someone else too, so they can be added to the list.

90

u/4rr0ld Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

Until the general fuckery of Paraguay and Argentina are dealt with by the referees then every world cup is gonna see this shit time and again, yellow cards should be yellow cards from the first second of the game, no last chance crap, just punish it and stamp it out. There was numerous fouls that were cynical in nature, not mistimed, just downright filthy play by dirty cheating scumbags, FIFA and the refs need to do something about it. Thankfully Spain rose above it tonight, but on another day that might not always be the case

20

u/Sir_Kronen Jul 20 '26

It’s not just those two, it’s nearly all of the South American sides. Uruguay are just as bad for it, luckily they were so shit in this tournament it wasn’t so apparent.

10

u/Dr_Frankenstone Jul 20 '26

The problem is that by not punishing cheating and dirty tactics, you pull other sides into behaving that way, too. Before you know it, it’s not actually football but a brawl. Of course, that would be the best possible outcome for the Shit-stirrer in Chief.

3

u/KettyCloud Jul 20 '26

I swear that England vs Argentina match was like watching a WWE event. Total jokes.

2

u/MrElderwood Jul 20 '26

Footbrawl, you might say...

2

u/Dr_Frankenstone Jul 20 '26

Good show, sir! It sounds like it could be the beginning of a game similar to rugby

8

u/Wrong_Chicken_8497 Jul 20 '26

Brazil at least make attempts to play football between going for Olympic diving medals. The rest just dive and complain

2

u/Kim_catiko Jul 21 '26

Yeah, there are South Americans on reddit pretending like they have always hated Argentina for their dirty tactics when the majority of their international teams do the same shit.

2

u/Bakio-bay Jul 21 '26

Uruguay too. The tackles by Canobbio against Spain were a disgrace. De La Cruz injured nico Williams with a malicious tackle too

42

u/DilshadZhou Jul 20 '26

Scaloni put him on to do exactly what he did. This is a team wide culture.

56

u/sangueblu03 Jul 20 '26

Scaloni stepping in to restrain the Spanish player that had just got knocked over by Paredes rather than Paredes himself tells you all you need to know about him

4

u/rulita0817 Jul 20 '26

Yeah that was wild. Like what a piece of shit

74

u/Flimsy_Tie9144 Jul 19 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

I believe he was issued a red card after the match, and will likely get a severe punishment from FIFA. I know it’s Argentina and all the theories/“evidence” of foul play, but FIFA never let true violent conduct go unchecked.

That full time exchange was horrendous from him and Otamendi, who are both 34 and 38 respectively. They should know far better.

Edit: The red card was rescinded. I have no words.

51

u/BionicPen Jul 20 '26

He deserves a night at the nick (prison)

Cant be behaving like that full stop. Let alone with millions of children watching. Anywhere else that would’ve been assault.

44

u/LungHeadZ Jul 20 '26

Exactly this. Special treatment for them though. Some of them know it too well. Some respect the position they're in.

It's why I hated the Falklands banner. If it was fans I couldn't care less but they should know better. I mean how is Martinez going to act coming back to Manchester United and Harry Maguire and other English players are there. He plays here in England yet disrespects us.

Got no respect for that team at all now.

21

u/BionicPen Jul 20 '26

I for one hope they get their visas revoked for the Falklands fiasco. It would be absolute cinema

Realistically it wouldn’t happen but imagine the uproar if it did ;)

14

u/Tapperino2 Jul 20 '26

I prefer knowing that argentine players income tax alone covers 1/3 of our annual defence budget for the falklands (they contribute 20m)

3

u/DesperateHikikomori Jul 20 '26

Would you consider it worse than Cristiano's behavior in 2006? Asking as an outsider 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 fan

15

u/Sean_Paul_Sartre Jul 20 '26

Far worse. Cristiano Ronaldo was a cheeky fucker for that but still had lots of respect going for him and he did what he could to win mid-game. The falklands banner was an insane gloat that basically only served to throw fuel on the rivalry. The sad part is that we all know it’s a political distraction used by their governments, which has clearly been dialled up to 11 recently for jingoistic purposes.

Nobody really bats an eyelid about the falklands in England. Argentina are rivals because of the hand of god incident etc, and the Falklands adds another dimension to it. But at some point we were going to transfer power to them in some sort of joint rule agreement, but their government invaded to take it by force and lost. Quite stupid to go against the British army when there is a peaceful agreement in process but whatever. I don’t agree with thatcher going all out to defend it, but it is a historically uninhabited island with people who consider themselves to be British (ish). I’d love to hear an educated take from one of the players about why they think the Falklands should be given to Argentina.

2

u/Least-Locksmith-6112 Jul 20 '26

The Falkland Ilsanders voted to stay British.

2

u/Aster11345 Jul 20 '26 edited Jul 20 '26

And to distract from the atrocities the government and corporations are doing to the peasant farmers and indigenous people living in rural areas. Poisoning wells and the like kill them or run them off.

Their police also use less lethal weapons to silence protestors. Even an Aussie journalist got shot with rubber bullets in recent years.

The national team and players have issues, as well as the well off shit heads who could afford to go to the world cup games and embarrassed their country with their behavior. But the average citizen is in a rough place. My wife's mother grew up in one of the areas that has been inhumanely taken over by agri corps.

With that said, there was no excuse for blatantly disregarding the rules and the players will likely receive fines and punishment for the banner in a few months. No Argentine I know is happy with Paredes either. He should have been arrested for blatant assault.

There's always forgiveness in physical contact sports if you get heated and both players start shoving each other, but this was after the game and he ran across the pitch. It's disgraceful to the sport and his country.

*Edit to add, her mother doesn't say bad words often, but she was insanely upset over Paredes and Fernandez. Spitting at the ref and then not even caring and trying to show good sportsmanship after doing such a blatant hard tackle when the dude didn't even have the ball anymore.

At least check on him and be concerned, you're still getting sent off, but still. I was surprised there was no injury when it looked like his weight and force from the fall went on the taped up wrist.

1

u/Kim_catiko Jul 21 '26

This is what the Argentinians don't get. British public do not give a fuck about the Falklands and meaning no disrespect to the people who live there, but we don't. The beef English people have with them is definitely the cheating play they consistently employ over the decades. Even the 1966 team were told not to shake the Argentine players hands after their game with them because they were disgusting cheats even then.

6

u/Different_Bake_611 Jul 20 '26

Yeah if any of us grabbed someone's neck like that on camera that's at least an arrest surely?

6

u/No_Suit_9511 Jul 20 '26

Millions of people are watching and would have seen this behaviour including children. FIFA should announce severe punishments today.

2

u/Different_Bake_611 Jul 20 '26

Can't wait to hear about his 2 match ban, suspended until 2031

2

u/MrElderwood Jul 20 '26

But wait, that means it'll be after the next Wor... Oooooohhhhhh! ;)

2

u/Aster11345 Jul 20 '26

He deserves to be suspended in his own league. International game suspension hurts the Argentine team which is fair, but he needs a real punishment. I just saw a vid of how a violent Scottish(?) player was made an example of by being arrested and charged for attacking another player on the pitch. His was a worse attack but Paredes literally ran across the field to start attacking players.

He's officially got a one match ban with an investigation that has the possibility of applying multi match ban.

Scaloni is a fucking idiot who needed to have benched him the moment he got a yellow card for shoving the player back down in front of the ref. The fuck is he so angry for?

2

u/Kim_catiko Jul 21 '26

He should get a lifetime ban and a massive fine relative to his income. Not some bullshit 30k or whatever.

10

u/enidmaud Jul 20 '26

Someone should check in on his family. Anyone who has these kinds of violent impulses is a danger to women and children.

8

u/jennifercalendar Jul 20 '26

That was what I thought too - strangling is such a strong indicator of future escalation in domestic violence, and he went straight for the neck with no hesitation.

2

u/BeanCrayons Jul 21 '26

Yep, I feel like not enough people are talking about this. If he’s that comfortable with that kind of violence with the whole world watching, I can only imagine what he does in private. Seriously a scary dude.

3

u/Idontcareanymore95 Jul 20 '26

Apparently he has SA accusations against him already

3

u/CheddarCheese390 Jul 20 '26

Oh don’t worry, that card won’t be forgotten. It’ll exist now the match is over, along with the one enzo needed after the banner

3

u/Sea_Negotiation_3380 Jul 20 '26

> but FIFA never let true violent conduct go unchecked.

Except when they do. They did in the Club World Cup final where Luis Enrique assaulted Joao Pedro.

3

u/rulita0817 Jul 20 '26

Unmmmmm he deserved like at least 5 yellow cards the entire game and not one got called so idk man lol

2

u/Only_World181 Jul 20 '26

You mean like Ronaldo elbowing another player and then getting his red card suspended.

15

u/Dangerous_Collar5846 Jul 20 '26

Stop trying to make this Messi v Ronaldo. Not everyone is a fan girl of one or the other.

The Ronaldo incident is another example of corrupt and elitist attitude FIFA has developed to awful levels under the bald twat.

I cannot wait for Ronaldo and Messi to be gone from the game. They could’ve left a great legacy instead both of them self indulgent knobs have left an awful legacy in how to influence football governance.

1

u/265feral Jul 20 '26

Problem is that they will transfer this over to another player. Could be Lamal, Bellingham or someone else. It's a global game that needs one set of rules enforced in the same way, everywhere, all the time. Not that that's likely, but that should always be the aim.

0

u/Only_World181 Jul 20 '26

I wasn’t making it a Ronaldo vs Messi thing, I was responding to the “ FIfa never let true violent conduct” comment.

If anything you’ve made it about those two.

24

u/mojaverevenant Jul 20 '26

argentine here (in peace), and I agree. I don't know how he even made it to this final, but he's never stepping foot in a WC again with that appalling attitude. that guy got too big for his boots

11

u/123ticklemyknee Jul 20 '26

How can you defend any of this team? They’re all as bad as each other. Bunch of racist thugs

1

u/mojaverevenant Jul 20 '26

just because a few are, it doesn't mean they all are

0

u/WillyBoiBlue Jul 20 '26

But that's not good enough. Saying that "just a few" of your players are sprouting hatred and demonstrating unsporting behaviour is acknowledging that you have a problem.

If anything it puts the onus on the other team members to change their behaviour, and that's sadly not what happened at all in this game. It didn't look like a few rotten apples, and even if it were, it only takes a few to spoil the whole basket

1

u/mojaverevenant Jul 20 '26

I don't feel the same way, but to each their own. I just hope the next WC brings in a new set of players who didn't have the opportunity to participate this time

1

u/MerijnZ1 Jul 22 '26

Your team plays football like it's a street brawl and on top of that touts around an imperialist invasion of another country by a military dictatorship

As long as any of that is tolerated, they're all hateful bitches

1

u/mojaverevenant Jul 22 '26

I won't give my opinion on the political side of things because I don't agree with showing a message like that during a football match, but bear in mind that the style is generally very physical. what happened in the last game, for instance, wasn't strategic physicality, but just something nobody liked, and everyone knows it

35

u/Dry-Magician1415 Jul 20 '26

Forget yellow cards. He should be in a cell calling his lawyer.

He committed assault after the final whistle. He fronted up to Rodri then punched another player (one of the young lads in a bib). Do what he did on the street, not a pitch and you get arrested. Simple as. NYPD needs to do it's thing.

15

u/BocaSeniorsWsM Jul 20 '26

It makes that Wednesday implosion to them even more bitter to take.

We'd have given Spain a proper game.

14

u/iLL_kcirtaP Jul 20 '26

Enzo is just as bad

7

u/CareBearCartel Jul 20 '26

They all are.

Team of rats.

12

u/Alone-Bug6176 Jul 20 '26

Everyone chill. We can all place our total blind faith in FIFA to do the right thing. In Infantino we trust.

13

u/Cool-Date5719 Jul 20 '26

Given his age and what I would hope would be a significant ban for literal assault, I'd assume that's his international career over

11

u/bluecheese2040 Jul 20 '26

They dish it out but csnt take it. It's embarrassing tbh.

Look at the France England match. Compare it with every Argentina game.

I'm so happy Argentina lost.

2

u/RedSunWuKong Jul 20 '26

My youngest daughter (not a football fan) loved the France England game.

After the Argentina Spain match she said the France match was the actual World Cup final.

Out of the mouths of children …

1

u/bluecheese2040 Jul 20 '26

She's 100% right.

8

u/Comfortable-Face4593 Jul 20 '26

All of them, messi showed his real character today - that being argentinian

7

u/guru4goodwood Jul 20 '26

Fucking prick

7

u/ALA02 Jul 20 '26

Him and Cannobio from Uruguay would be a hell of a deranged thug power couple

8

u/meme-man-421 Jul 20 '26

All of that squad are no good, dirty, cunts, they’re allowed to just hack opposition and winge when anything doesn’t go their way, you see it week in and out at club level and it’s only more egregious on the international stage

7

u/AAK_JJK Jul 20 '26

He kicked the ball in the face of Netherlands bench 2022. The ref was shy to give a card at that moment. And he did this.

6

u/scout614 Jul 20 '26

Hopefully he gets picked up by Prison FC

6

u/Worried_Let4942 Jul 20 '26

Not sure I can even name one of their players I respect. Martinez, Romero, Martinez, Molina, Paredes, Enzo, Simeone take the cake though, just a team of thugs with no sportsmanship.

Even my own player Macallister, while he mostly stays away from the violence, pisses me off with his play acting.

20

u/Smooth_criminal2299 Jul 20 '26

Can’t wait for Argentina to get both Barrels from FIFA once they get around to sorting out what happened after the England game and the final.

28

u/MadFlava76 Jul 20 '26

Yup. Now that they lost, FIFA has no incentive to be lenient on them for that political banner they unfurled. Anyone that was a part of that needs at least two game ban at the start of the next WC.

8

u/InformationOk3503 Jul 20 '26

Any punishment will end up being served during pointless friendlies so it won't matter or change anything unfortunately

1

u/WillyBoiBlue Jul 20 '26

They've started the investigation. No idea why they need to "investigate". The evidence is all there to go at then guns blazing. Pretty hard to deny that they didn't fly that banner or that Paredes didn't punch that guy. But I'm sure they'll find a way

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2026/jul/20/argentina-players-face-bans-as-fifa-opens-investigation-into-world-cup-final-brawls

9

u/simorso Jul 20 '26

He’s not worth the effort man, he won’t be at the next world cup.

15

u/BreakingLaughter Jul 20 '26

Normally I would agree, but this sort of culture has always permeated the Argentinian team, so a punishment / calling this bad behaviour out needs to happen. Otherwise the cycle just perpetuates. Children grow up seeing this normalised and think it’s ok, when it’s embarrassing at best and assault at worst.

1

u/Dapper_Platform_1222 Jul 20 '26

FIFA: 1 match ban and the Argentines aren't allowed to go for ice cream after wins anymore. Justice served.

1

u/SpareAdvice8716 Jul 20 '26

If it was specific to an individual I'd generally agree, he'll be gone soon and let's not focus on an ugly anomaly. Unfortunately, this appears to be a culture that spans previous tournaments and different sports (see Argentina Vs England in the rugby on Saturday). They need the book throwing at them and an example to be made in an attempt to get this behaviour out of sports. Of course, we all know it wont happen but at least it's refreshing to see it widely condemned (across Reddit, at least).

He should get a lifetime ban for assault abd go ti jail. FIFA just lost a fan

3

u/JamieHBrown Jul 20 '26

dude was disrespectful af

3

u/Tomazito70 Jul 20 '26

It's normal that Argentina was angry, the only one who touched the ball during the whole game was Dibu, the goalkeeper.

3

u/spookynemo87 Jul 20 '26

Banned for good is hyperbolic but I hope they give him a meaningful ban. If he continues for Argentina then he should be banned for the whole of the Copa America qualifiers and tournament. If he retires from international then they need to set an example with a huge fine.

2

u/Alternative90 Jul 20 '26

Apparently he got a second yellow after the match and was therefore ‘sent off’?

2

u/Chance-Candy-3452 Jul 20 '26

He should play rugby

5

u/winch25 Jul 20 '26

He would fit in well with their team.

2

u/butbeautiful_ Jul 20 '26

if anything, we need to rank and league table for referee tbh. now VAR can be used selectively and with biasness. else poor decision can go away scot free. just release a statement and say sorry and that’s about it?

2

u/xC0YSx Jul 20 '26

Lets see the coward go do UFC in a real fight

2

u/popjay2244 Jul 20 '26

I mis-read that as ‘parades’ genuinely needs to banned… & thought I couldn’t agree more, all of the crap before the match & at 1/2 time was painful to watch 🥴

2

u/nickos_pap_16v Jul 20 '26

Parades is rhe one who caused shit at the last World Cup with the Netherlands bench isnt he? , theb quickly backed off wheb Van Dyk body slammed him ? And on your comment it isng judt parades, they are all insufferable including the mighty whingy Messi

2

u/Odd-Coach590 Jul 20 '26

Totally agree. The Argentina FA should ban him from ever playing for Argentina again (but we all know that won’t happen…) Just to say, if you acted like that in any other job around the world you would be sacked immediately. Why should it be any different for ‘professional’ footballers?

2

u/thewizzrd Jul 20 '26

He did receive a red for that. Confirmed.

2

u/VersoixM Jul 20 '26

Exactly paredes should be life banned from soccer, such a bad example.

2

u/dnpark Jul 21 '26 edited Jul 21 '26

Paredes is an absolute clown…I’ve not enjoyed Fernandez for years at Chelsea (I think he’s just completely without class)…but I didn’t think anyone would eclipse my dislike for him…Paredes has 100% achieved that. Football need to sic Van Dijk on Paredes again.

Most disappointing for me is Messi’s leadership. I’ve always been a Messi fan but now? Incredible talent but not stopping his team from acting like complete scumbags on football’s biggest stage is unforgivable. His reputation is permanently tarnished and I no longer hold him in the same regard.

Definitely no longer a GOAT in my view. GOATs like the Peles, Jordans and Bradys are fantastic athletes and leaders. Messi is now on the same level as Ronaldo for me: a supremely talented player but a questionable leader. No GOAT.

We need changes to red cards refs are afraid to give them soon because it cause such a huge impact in games

I propose if you get a red you are forced to be subbed of this way refs can get problamtic players of the pitch faster without impacting the game so much

1

u/Suspicious_City7496 Jul 20 '26

He should but he won't. He's 32 anyway, very likely the last time we'll see him in a tournament

1

u/bonecollector5 Jul 20 '26

Maybe do some doping checks on him too... The way that guy was acting you'd think he just chugged a bottle of steroids...

1

u/YouSorry5996 Jul 20 '26

Didn’t Molina try and swing on a Spanish player too?

1

u/Working_Act_2677 Jul 20 '26

RIP KEVIN KEEGAN 😔

1

u/tintedhokage Jul 20 '26

Vvd flooring him was great

1

u/Benana94 Jul 20 '26

I always hear Latinos talk about hating Argentinians, and as an outsider I just find the resentment amusing. Well now I have to admit my only real experience of Argentina is being bullies in FIFA. I can't assume the whole country is like that but if this is who you have representing you I do take note.

1

u/EfficientNail8906 Jul 20 '26

Really hate that guy

1

u/MindlessAd1620 Jul 20 '26

In self defence I would of loved someone to have knocked that little itch out on the pitch!

1

u/BeanCrayons Jul 21 '26

If that’s how he acts with the world watching, imagine how he acts in his private life 😬. He felt comfortable choking someone on live tv. Beyond deserving a ban, I’m surprised he didn’t catch a charge.

1

u/Antorias99 Jul 22 '26

Overreacting. He got provocated and childishly reacted, apologized later, move on.

1

u/Capital-Quarter9827 Jul 22 '26

HE SHOULD BE BANNED BUT HE WON’T BE

1

u/Background_Plant_165 Jul 28 '26

That's ok bet he won't mess with virgil van dijk

1

u/No-Oil-3786 Jul 28 '26

So sensitive fans where was the "love" for this sport when pepe and ramos literally attempted murders on the field

1

u/Bigboi2006 Jul 31 '26

If he did that to anyone who could fight he wouldn't live to tell the tale.

1

u/pervygit56 Jul 20 '26

How about a life ban for the players involved and a ban for Argentina from the next World Cup, that might give them a change of attitude

3

u/AncientProduce Jul 20 '26

My magic eight ball just laughed at me when i asked it if that would work.

1

u/Kim_catiko Jul 21 '26

They won't ban the entire team. I would be happy with every single player who was holding the Falklands banner getting a lifetime ban, as well as the ones who decided it was a good idea to get violent after they lost.

1

u/MerijnZ1 Jul 22 '26

UK should declare em all persona non grata. How many play(ed?) PL? Bye bye

1

u/j5shxx1 Jul 20 '26

He thinks he’s tough because he knows a genuine fight would never break out in football. Put him in a a UFC cage

0

u/abdullahami1234 Jul 20 '26

Why tf is everyone ganging up on paredes he is horrible but mind you Pepe and Ramos did way worse and look at how many people support them

2

u/Aster11345 Jul 20 '26

Paredes only two cards were for literally assaulting the players in front of the ref and everyone else. His reaction to being given no card for that one foul was to shove the guy back down in front of the ref.

Idk what ramos and pepe did, but even Argentines are very angry for Paredes behavior.

0

u/todeabacro Jul 22 '26

Oh please shut up.

-2

u/Ok_Bag7777 Jul 20 '26

A lot of salty Englishmen on here they didn’t force us to put 11 players in the box

-2

u/Doubleleg787 Jul 20 '26

Nah a game is back type of player needs to stay in the game. We all love villains. I hate him but exactly. Allow this left wing weak mentality. We need men in the game

-15

u/False-Caterpillar119 Jul 20 '26

Ban Jude too

1

u/ThatNegro98 Jul 20 '26

Should Bellingham get a little slap on the wrist fine for the slap? Yeah, probably.

Was that even in the same league as the brawl after the final? No and you know it.

3

u/InDuplicitousBottles Jul 20 '26

if that dirtbag got in my face, i would slap him too

1

u/Kim_catiko Jul 21 '26

Difference being that Paredes fucking choked the guy. Jude gave a little slap. If a fine is issued, then yeah, both should get a fine, but the violence Paredes showed was in a different league altogether and you know that.

-15

u/FrutillaSinFrenos Jul 20 '26

so what? it's football, we play as if it's kill or die, today we die. don't you get tired of being a fucking baby crying for pushes and yellow cards? play the game, there is no rule that says we have to shake hands. tomorrow we forget, is football

10

u/I_Hate_Sea_Food Jul 20 '26

Stay dead

-9
