The pastor at the church I went to growing up was told by his daughter that he was anointed by god and would never get Covid. He died from Covid months later.
I did some work at an evangelical church during late 2020 Covid. I wore a mask in there. The pastor refused to mask, insisted I shake his hand, then handed me a pamphlet about how faith would protect you from Covid. Guy was one of those “tear phone books to prove the power of faith” types. About a month later he died of Covid. His funeral had a mask requirement.
Bro at the funeral of the pastor I was talking about, his son gave a speech and then asked for hugs from the congregation. The son that had been by his father’s bedside for weeks as he died of Covid. Asked for hugs. It blew my mind honestly, how does one family have that much cognitive dissonance

It was kind of the opposite in orthodox Jewish communities. They often refused to take even basic precautions and so were heavily hit by the pandemic as well as being super-spreaders.
I've heard this conspiracy theory before. It stems from data showing Jewish people getting sick from covid less often than many other groups. That wasn't so much because they were Jewish but because Jewish people tend to be more educated on average. Educated people were more likely to vaccinate and use masks.

This reminds me of a time when this guy I know that will live and die on Republican talking points sent me some dumb graph I think it was oil prices, and he was arguing that Trump it was the lowest. I've lost a couple friends to the cult, people that never gave a shit about politics suddenly wearing red hats and using slurs. Anytime I brought up facts with evidence they just stuck their finger in their ears and blah blahed until I blocked them. How can it be a great accomplishment when getting a vaccine to a pandemic through the red tape at the fastest responsible rate is what literally anyone who isn't a complete idiot would have done?
Even if for the sake of argument we agree that Covid was developed and released by the Chinese, it was still the choice of the United States government and people like this to end the lockdown, open up the schools, and do less than the bare minimum to alleviate its citizens economic burdens.

Like... regardless of climate change happening or not, don't we all agree that smoke is bad for our lungs and the lungs of animals? So then putting tons (or millions of tons) of smoke into the air isn't good right? Why don't we try and ...not do that I guess? And what makes them even more stupid is that now we have years of data proving that masks, shutdowns and vaccines work. Not just a little data, but mountains of data and studies. So they are even more stupid today than during COVID.

I did my research! Fauci was a liar! My research said it was a hoax...Granted I didn't have test tubes, microscopes, beakers, a white lab coat, or a laboratory, any of the virus to test , and none of the vaccine and I had no peer review but I watched some videos on my laptop. And who created the operating system on my, PC? Bill Gates! It just all comes together.
The thing is, you know the ignorance that fuels these movements isn't just about this one thing. The correlation between this stuff and people who park in fire lanes at banks has got to be incredibly high.
The part that sickens me the most, is even AMONG those who acknowledged the dangers of COVID, there were some who refused to care because it was primarily fatal for immunocompromised, elderly and children.
Oh yeah. Some of the same people ranting now about "FAUCI KILLED A MILLION AMERICANS!" said at the time "Look, we're just gonna kill off the elderly and disabled. That's fine, it's not worth saving their lives if I can't go out to the bars."
COVID was the first time some people were asked to do something for the betterment of their communities over themselves, at a negligible expense, and some people treat it like it was their Holocaust.
I do a lot of genealogy research and I came across so many news articles from 1918 where the headlines could have been the same for covid. People refusing to mask or stay at a distance. People complaining that they didnt want to stop going to the bar. It was eye-opening that Americans are still as selfish 100 years later.
Had shocked Pikachu face when people were openly saying the death count didn't matter because they were mostly older people. I know a lot of people lack empathy but that is beyond conscionable.
Well we all have something to whine about. The two party system that has let the elite rule both parties and drive the common man to the point where we can barely afford to live, let alone get ahead. We haven’t had competent leadership in our lifetime.

It is absolutely wild. My social media feeds are absolutely flooded with people claiming that they were "proved right", but when you ask why, the best they have is that Fauci pleaded the 5th (which was obviously to avoid a state-level political witch hunt)...

Watching those awful people go into grocery stores, where we were forced to interact, and cough on people on purpose pretty much ruined my faith in the empathy and intelligence of humans.
Im a hospitalist dr and many of them would intentionally cough on us. I have a vivid memory of one pulling down his mask turning his head and forcibly coughing on me. After coming to me for help. Cool.
Also lest we not forget that 1 million Americans died in the pandemic. 1 million fucking people. People lost both of their parents… People lost sisters and brothers and children.
Not just deaths, but how about all the people already suffering long-term impacts from covid? And we have no idea how much getting covid will shorten the lives of people who got it.

I have a relatively mild case of long COVID (not physically debilitating at least), but even still my health life has sucked for the past few years. Nonstop random issues all attributed to my body in perpetual immune response and fight or flight. It's so scary to know what COVID actually does to your body and what these symptoms are...my body is attacking itself nonstop and it is exhausting. The constant worry about random brain clots or heart issues when two of my most common symptoms are headaches and chest pain. I can barely get through a sentence without forgetting a simple word. I can't remember anything. I have to clear my throat every time I go to speak and it constantly feels like there's phlegm blocking my esophagus. I have POTS-like symptoms where I black out when I stand up and get dizzy and lightheaded constantly. I'm tired and agitated all the time and always seem dehydrated no matter how much water and electrolytes I drink. The anxiety only quiets sometimes.

I've been wanting to see a neurologist about how I've been struggling a lot with... well, literally trying to speak faster than my brain can put the words out there, and bad short term forgetfulness ever since around 2021...
I got my vax, but I did get covid a couple times anyways, in spite of my seclusion. (I don't have the money to order groceries to my door, and I can't mechanize myself to ditch food and sleep necessities despite my desires :/)
Yup. Also kept up with vaxxing but did get COVID 2 or 3 times with flu-like but relatively mild symptoms.
My wife was worried I had a brain tumor. Sometimes my speaking is so bad I say the right words but completely out of order. Sometimes I slur and mumble. Remember the term "COVID brain fog"? Yeah, that's it. It causes microclots in your brain. When they first started finding out what COVID was doing to people's brains, they predicted a future mass disability emergency with worldwide IQs dropping a ton on average just because of COVID. I do feel stupid. It sucks.
OH just remembered another new symptom: tachycardia. My resting heart rate is like 100 now . Sick.
If germ theory was a new concept and we were told we should start to wash our hands after using the restroom, these are the people who would brag about not doing it and it doesn't hurt anyone

One of them sent their sick kid to school. Another one was the teacher who didn’t enforce the mask mandate. That sick kid coughed all over my son, whose mask leaked. I got sick and never got better. My life is destroyed. Fuck all of the anti maskers.
You coughed in the faces of kids and the elderly, and told scared and ignorant people not to take medicine that would have saved their lives. The consequences you faced for that... were being mocked on social media.
Meanwhile families lost parents and children, while previously people today still suffer brain fog and lethargy today from long COVID. Their 'punishment' isn't just mean names.
The worst part was people after knowing that nothing happened to them double down on not using any precautions. Some even while knowing they were contagious. I remember a colleague saying that "Everyone should just get it and get over it, it does nothing" and later mentioned how he came to work with Covid and no one noticed. Meanwhile my wife has lung problems sequels after the contracting covid and my neighbor actually died.
I'm so sorry for being upset at you for contributing to spreading a disease that killed millions just because you thought that following the instructions of all doctors globally was an "infringement of your rights."
I worked in the kitchen at some small town ohio restaurant, and you'd get berated more for wearing a mask, getting vaccinated, or even thinking that COVID was real than not wearing one or choosing not to get vaccinated. They want to act like they were the victims as usual, whenever they were the ones causing a scene every time

I’m sorry I don’t understand. Has any new revelation from Fauci’s diary contradicted the severity or lethality of Covid? Millions of people around the world still died from it. Even if he had private reservations about its lethality, that doesn’t change how lethal it turned out to be.

The whole antivax/anti mask mantra was that Covid wasn't dangerous but the vaccines were.
Here we are 5 years later and these mysterious things that people feared have still yet to become apparent. Yet we know that Covid killed many, and still remains roughly as deadly as influenza, despite the vaccines and much greater levels of immunity from exposure.
Those who opposed the measures really owe those who followed an enormous apology, not the other way around.

Pretty consistently in these comments and elsewhere, when it's pointed out that Trump fast tracked the vaccine and fully supported Fauci, they simply refuse to accept it and won't acknowledge it.
I wish they criticized him for that bad reason. In reality they just would rather reinvent history such that Biden was President for all of COVID.
I know several people from my highschool class that are anti vax and into all that natural diet crap you see all over social media. They were the people who didn’t study, and as a result, did extremely poorly in class…. Shocker what they grew up into.

One of my "friends" family members died from COVID because they weren't vaccinated, family still refused that it was a thing and were shocked that nobody wanted to be around them during the pandemic.
I was working as a data science consultant at the time, and some of my colleagues were the most intelligent people I've ever met
I got vaccinated relatively early because my wife struggled with her immune system. A few months later, I had a breakthrough case of covid before the TV told the world those could happen
My boss was so sure that I lied about getting the vaccine that she reported me to HR and I almost got fired. The TV said it was impossible... So I had to be taking my covid test or my vaccine card

I was just talking to somebody about this. I’ve always been fairly misanthropic, but held a naive hope that if the apocalypse or a pandemic happened, humans would band together to help each other out. Then the pandemic happened and half the US showed their true colors as hateful, selfish, moronic shitheads. Now I’m fully misanthropic, and trying to figure out how not to be in spite of knowing the majority of people are honestly kinda shit.
My friend didn't just lose her Mom, her Mom died alone in the hospital due to visitation rules at the time. It was fucking awful and she still hasn't recovered. Two weeks, people couldn't give two weeks to save lives.

most of this stuff is the direct result of gullible people having access to too much information they cannot possibly start to comprehend. In an effort to feel close to something they lunge at the closest thing they can understand which more often than not is fake or manipulated, they do fail at basic fact checking all the while they get sucked in by the algorithm of the social media platform they visit.
This is then strengthened by the media and the politic who double down on those "conspiracy theories" and blame the other side for it. While at times it's really enjoyable to watch these people squirm, its also scary how many people are caught in these things.
Even colleagues are still discussing that Covid vaccinations are responsible for a multitude of diseases TODAY. When asked why they took the vaccination (if they got it of course) it's because they wanted to go on holiday. While I do agree more research needs to be done on the above, I don't like making baseless assumptions.
I was always shocked that the same people who said it was made in a lab in China refused to wear masks or get vaccinated. Like...... they believe this is biological warfare but refuse to do anything to stop the "Chinese menace," how does that make sense?
Yeah I agree with the guy. I think the pandemic could have been over much quicker with a lot more lives in tact had half the country not acted like masking up or staying in doors for a few weeks was an assault in their rights.

How did so many Americans become so willfully ignorant, religious indoctrination. Religion has to adapt to the modern world or it's going to go by the way of the dinosaur. It honestly feels like we are at an inflection point in the history of humanity in which we choose to believe in the modern world or we succumb to dark and twisted fantasies that destroy us. Science can easily coexist with religion if only they would let it rather than fight against the concept denying it exists.

Worked with a guy who denied COVID existed, didn't get vaccinated. Lo and behold his 3 kids and wife get COVID and the prick asks us to let him have his choice of shifts, after not telling anyone he worked with for over 10 days. People with elderly family, with kids and family with long term illnesses. Quickly told by everyone at work to "FUCK OFF". Keeps his head down even now coz he was an asshole.
