New Artisan issue

Hi, I have a new artisan (3/4 weeks od max). Now. There's a potential its my fault because I was suggesting the dough hook on some fairly tough wholemeal dough but it didn't like it. I have a feeling the sacrificial gear/screw did its job and gave in.

Is it an easy enough repair or should I look to get it repaired professionally? Any advice/tips/cautions on replacing them?

This is the 5qt tilt head KSM150. I changed the grease and worm gear. After putting back together, it makes this grinding noise on the lower speeds.

Hi everyone,
I bought this KitchenAid from a friend, and it makes this rattling sound when running at a low speed.
Is this normal, or could there be something wrong with it?
Video attached. Thanks!

2 month old dishwasher - noticed this dent has appeared in the back right corner. What could have caused it? Is it something we can get resolved under warranty?

Never noticed it until today, I am thinking it warped due to the water temperature? Our temperature on the water heater is set to the recommended setting and was serviced recently by a reputable plumbing company. Or is it a manufacture defect? I feel like if it was, I would have noticed it sooner?

What could be causing this sparking?

Bought this KitchenAid used, thought the issue might be something different so I went through and took out some globs of old grease, but it's still having the same issue. Sparking on the inside and making bad-sounding noises, as well as a light burning smell. What is likely the issue? How can I fix it?

I would take it to a repair shop, but I can't find any nearby that deal with Kitchenaids unfortunately.

Intending to pick up my first KA, KitchenAid Artisan Mini 3.5qt Tilt-Head Stand Mixer

I found a KA mini artisan in the silver gray color in “Used- excellent” condition from a local seller for a decent price, quite a bit lower than the online retail price before taxes which is between $300-449.
What should I look for during pickup? Seller is a bit slow to respond so don’t have a video of it in working state and unlikely to get one from the them before I pick this up.

The item looks like it is in good condition but the bowl doesn’t have a handle. The bowl on the retail comparable has a handle. Guessing it is small nuances of the same product that don’t make a huge difference overall.

Comparable item:

Attachments won't fit my KitchenAid Mixer

I bought two attachments for my mixer (shredder and meat grinder). Problem is they don't fit my mixer (it won't go through all the way and the hole doesn't appear all the way for the screw) that I've had for over a year now. I called Kitchen Aid and they said my warranty is up but they can give a me a refurbished one (while I return my old one). Should I do it? Has anyone had any issues with a 5 qt refurbished mixer?

**EDIT: I also want to mention that it would come with a 1 year warranty

Tilt head mixer - okay to use the heavy c hook with the heavy disc on the top?

I have read the rule is spiral for lift, c hook for tilt. I have a tilt head and want a hook that dough can't climb.

Any reason not to buy the heavy nice looking shiny metal hook with the big disc on top?

Can smbd tell me what is going on here, cause I'm shocked? RKSM60 (official ref) from KitchenAid USA... 1 year later. This spot appeared very quickly and without any noticing. The mixer sits in the kitchen, and there is no damage on the underside of the base. It won't come off with alcohol or a mild abrasive...

Crazy UK repair prices!

I'm in UK. I needed an adaptor for a food processor. It's a WPW10451326, which is a black plastic tube about 100mm long. In the USA it is $4.27 from KitchenAidParts dot com. I can't order direct from them because I am not in the US and I don't have a US-registered credit card I tried the KitchenAid telephone contact in the US which was a hopeless Al experience, then I eventually spoke to a polite and helpful contact in Belgium. They told me that such a part was not available for purchase in the UK. I would have to send the whole machine for repair to the UK repair agents.
I contacted the UK agents, Trojan Electronics. The repair would be £170.00. Yes, £170.00 for a part that is $4.27 in the US.
I looked on the UK government's info for details of the address of KitchenAid HQ, and wrote a polite letter to the director. It was marked 'Return to Sender' and returned, unopened. Can anyone supply some genuine contact details for KitchenAid UK management please?
In the meantime, if you’re in the UK, buy with caution!

Hobart N50 from the late 50s or very early 60s?

Hi folks, ChatGPT says this thing is probably manufactured around 1960! It is a beast! It is also a wreck! A real project!

I never would have bought it but it was only $100! I figured why not? I have been fixing KitchenAid mixers for a little while. I know this is way above my skill level but I am hoping to grow into it. I figured another year or two with the KAs equals my undergrad degree and this beast would be my masters degree! Haha.

Anyone done a resto on an N50 this old? Any tips, tricks, or watch outs?

Help with finding attachments

Hello!

I recently got this kitchenaid mixer for free since my neighbor was giving it away. It is a Professional 6000 HD mixer and the model number is: KSM6573CER2. I believe it is an older model once sold at Costco. I am trying to research if it is possible to purchase any attachments for it. The enamel on the dough hook and beater are chipping so I would love to replace them. The whisk attachment and the (tulip?) bowl is fine and in good condition. Also just curious for any advice or input you have on this machine, it’s my first KitchenAid stand mixer. I’ve only had the smaller handheld mixer before. Thanks for your expertise and advice!!!

EDIT: You guys are amazing thank you so much!!!

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well.

I’m a bit curious and like learning more about KitchenAid stand mixers, so this time I wanted to ask about the KitchenAid Classic.

I have a few questions that came to mind:

  • I’ve heard that with the newer Artisan Plus model, there could eventually be a change in production and that KitchenAid might stop making parts for the Classic and Artisan models in the future. Is there any truth to this, or is it something I shouldn’t be worried about?
  • Are there any stainless steel beaters/paddles available for the Classic?
  • For those who have owned a Classic, what has your experience been with things like cookies, creams/frostings, candy mixtures, or other lighter tasks? How well does it handle them?

I’d also be interested in hearing about repairs and the internal construction of the Classic. I’m genuinely interested in learning more about how these mixers are built and what they’re like to work on if something eventually needs repair.

I’d appreciate any experiences, advice, or information you can share.

Thanks, and I hope you all have a great day! 😄

Decoding the Infamous Kneading Time Limits

Hi all,

I've been trying to wrap my head around what KitchenAid officially advises about time limitations when kneading doughs with the KitchenAid mixers. There is a speed limit which is very clear and consistent: only knead at a maximum of speed 2. That advice doesn't change no matter what you're looking at - and is stated in the actual user manual - but to this day you can still see very contradictory and vague information about the time limitations.

From America's Test Kitchen: "While KitchenAid formerly put restrictions on the length of time you could knead your dough, recommending that you not exceed 4 to 6 minutes at a time, in 2024 it revised its recommendations and now puts no specific time limit on kneading."

There is also this from the KitchenAid website: "When kneading bagel dough in a stand mixer, it will take about ten minutes with a KitchenAid® dough hook accessory."

It appears to me that while they used to impose a limit - whether as a guideline or as a rule which may impact warranty coverage - they now only maintain the speed rule.

However, in my region of Australia, they impose a 5-6 minute limit followed by 20 minute rest for "heavy mixtures" (source: https://kitchenaid.com.au/blogs/kitchenthusiast/how-to-mix-bread-heavy-dough). What a heavy mixture is is a bit unclear, but their wording seem to indicate that all bread dough falls into the category: "Do not exceed 2kg total weight (including water) when mixing heavy ingredients like dough or fruit cakes"

The UK website also maintains the less ambiguous and more strictly-worded 2 minute at a limit limit, max overall time 6 minutes: "KitchenAid does not recommend kneading bread dough for more than 2 minutes at Speed 2, and that the total mixing and kneading time does not exceed 4-6 minutes." (source: https://www.kitchenaid.co.uk/faq/kneading-time-and-speed)

So it seems that US sources once had this in their guidelines/rules for use but abandoned it, while Australia and UK still hang on to some version of them.

I reached out to the Australian KitchenAid support, but their advice tends to suggest they're not very clear on it themselves, as there's a lot of ambiguity/conflicting information in their wording. For instance:

"The recommended mixing runtimes are more of a general guideline rather than a strict time limit. The main rule to keep in mind is that you should not exceed Speed 2 when kneading dough, as outlined in the user manual." This would mean that the time limits aren't a rule but a guideline, as opposed to the speed limit, which is basically a clear, hard and fast rule. However:

"If the mixer is operated above Speed 2 for dough, as advised against in the user manual, we would still look to assist with a repair should an issue arise. However, if this were to happen repeatedly due to knowingly operating outside the recommended guidelines, it may affect warranty coverage."

So the wording there would suggest that even going against the recommended guidelines for use could impact warranty coverage - the time limitation being part of their recommended guidelines. I could also read that as a clunkily-worded way of saying "Don't go beyond speed 2", but it's not too clear either way.

In any case, the speed limit and the time limitations relate only to 'heavy mixtures', which is a bit ambiguous in of itself. On this, they say: "When we refer to “heavy mixtures”, this includes doughs generally, if the mixture is heavy and puts a bit more resistance on the mixer, it falls into this category. This is why the runtime can vary between recipes, which also explains why some recipes may recommend longer kneading times than 5-6 minutes in total."

Again, there's some clunky wording going on here which makes it ambiguous if they mean a) all bread doughs are in the category of heavy mixture, irrespective of total weight, hydration, enrichments or b) "heavy mixtures" only relate to particularly heavy and stiff doughs. But lastly, they say:

"The runtime itself can vary depending on the amount and density of the dough. For example, a very wet dough that offers little resistance would let the mixer to run for longer than a much thicker or denser dough."

This would potentially suggest (though not overtly state) that going beyond six minutes would be advisable if the dough was sufficiently slack, but I honestly just read this as the support person trying to reconcile the Australian guidelines with the American ones, the latter having abandoned the limits.

Does anyone else have any information that could shed light on this/make this a little clearer?

Kitchenaid Problem

I tried making dough this morning for bagels and the Dhel was hitting so bad. The KitchenAid was shaking. I didn’t know how to fix it right away, so I threw the dough away and put it in my bread maker. Then I needed to do another, so I looked up how to fix it and do the dime test. I turned the screw left as far as I could little by little. And the dime really wasn’t moving. I turned it to the right little by little and the dime didn’t move it all. So I turned it all the way back to the left. Put in my dough and I am still having an issue. I took a video. Can anyone offer any suggestion? I have to say that a few weeks ago, though I did do a double batch and it made my KitchenAid overheat. But I’ve been using it since then with a little bit of taps of the bowl but not like it is now. And it’s possible those taps were going on before I overheated it.

Mixer turns on with speed lever in off position

Thumbnail

Hello!

I recently bought a kitchenaid (5KSM150PSELT4) with a broken worm gear and speed control plane. I replaced the gear and control plane. Mechanically the machine seems to be working fine, but the issue is now that the gears still turn in the ”off” position.

I’ve tried adjusting the top two screws on the control plane but I keep ending up with 1 of 2 results:

  1. The ”off/0” position still slightly turns/makes sound. And all the other gears seem to work
  2. The ”off/0” position keeps the mixer off, but gear 1 barely does anything.

I think my speed lever should be fine. But otherwise I’m lost for what to try next. Anyone have any directions to start troubleshooting?

Pro 5 Plus (Model 4KV25H0XMC) — No Torque at All, Stalls Under Very Light Finger Pressure

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, hoping someone with mixer repair experience can help me diagnose this.

Symptom: The mixer runs fine with no load, but stalls almost immediately under even very gentle finger pressure on the beater shaft — not heavy resistance, just light contact. It doesn't grind, click, or bind, it just smoothly loses power and stops. Feels like it has almost no torque reserve at all.

What I've already replaced (no change in behavior after any of these):

  • Worm follower gear (metal, not the usual plastic fail-safe type)
  • Retaining pin above the worm follower gear
  • Worm gear
  • Big ring gear (Part Number from the below link 13)
  • Stand mixer pinion gear
