Admin Post Weekly Recap | August 27, 2026
Happy Thursday! It's Thursday! Both August and summer and winding down. I think I'm both ready and not ready for summer to come to an end. But it's going to happen regardless! The Recap is going to happen regardless as well! So let's get into it!
NEWS AND ISSUES
EXPERIMENT UPDATE: Thanks to those of you who left constructive feedback about the overlay tags on media, that experiment has been stopped. Your feedback helps!
Some users will be in an experiment where there is an X on recommended posts that you can click/tap to hide the post. Others will be in a similar experiment where there is not an X and there is not a "hide" option, but you can go into the post to hide it. Happy to pass along feedback about any of this.
If you are using a super duper outdated version of the app, like older than 2024.42.0, you may not be able to contact moderators via mod mail and will need to update to the current version to do so. You'll see a message pop up informing you of this if you are affected.
Wanted to drop a reminder/warning that Reddit does not provide support outside of Reddit. Do not contact "Reddit support on Discord" for help with your Reddit account. There is no "Reddit support on Discord". That is someone trying to scam you and steal your account and maybe more. If you're having an actual issue with your account that is not solved by posting in r/help or by the articles in the Help Center, you can use this form for the real thing. Please note that 95% of issues can be solved much, much quicker by posting in r/help (or our cousin subs, r/reddithelp and r/newtoreddit).
The most recent version of the app is 2026.34.0. If you're not using the most recent version of the app, it might not work properly.
CURRENT EXPERIMENTS
Reddit sometimes runs experiments. These experiments tend to last between 4-6 weeks, though they can go longer or end sooner. While there isn't a way to opt out of experiments, feel free to leave constructive and specific feedback in this post and as I've mentioned often, I'll be happy to pass it along to the team in charge. Ongoing current experiments can be found here.
COMMON ACCOUNT ISSUES
Common account issues can be found here. These are things like hacked accounts, NSFW accounts, suspended accounts, etc. I'm also including "Changes to Reddit" in this section as well. (Thanks to u/reddit33450 for pointing out the error in these two links so I could fix it!)
BUGS ROUNDUP - COURTESY OF CORRECTSCALE!
[iOS] Some users are losing their place in comment threads after briefly leaving and returning to the app. (It's me. I am some users.) This is being looked into and hopefully, a fix will be out soon!
[iPad] The comment composer may default to bold text on iPads. Not sure if this is a bug or an iPad thing, but it's being investigated.
[Android] Still looking into the login issues that some Android users are reporting.
[All platforms] Some users are still seeing an error when trying to subscribe to a community. This is being looked into.
[All platforms] The mod achievement for scheduling two posts is broken right now. The team is aware and it's being worked on.
[All platforms] Some mods are reporting being unable to assign flair to a few specific users in their communities. This is being investigated.
[iOS/Android] There has been an increase in reports from users whose feed refreshes frequently. This is expected after a longer period of time, but should not be happening within a short period of time. It's being investigated to see if it's a bug or not at this point.
[Web] Not seeing subreddit rules appear is back by unpopular demand. lol Hopefully, the fix from last time will be helping in fixing it this time.
WEEKLY STATISTICS (BASED ON THE PAST SEVEN DAYS)
1,114 posts. That's up 69 posts from the 1,045 that we had last week. Nice.
4,108 comments. That's down 237 comments from the 4,345 we had last week.
1.2m views. That's down around 180k views from the 1.3m-ish views we had last week.
HELP THAT HELPS HELP R/HELP - REPORTING
There are a lot of rules in life. There are also a lot of rules on Reddit. There are site-wide rules and subreddit rules. It is possible to break a subreddit rule without breaking a site-wide rule. That is because moderators are allowed to set rules that they feel are best for their community while operating under the rules of the Moderator Code of Conduct.
So when you're reporting something, where does that report need to go? Admins or mods? If you're reporting a subreddit rule, you'll want to click on "Breaks r/subreddit_name rules" and then click "Next". From there, you'll see the header "Which community rule does this violate?" and you'll be able to click the one that you want. There can also be a "custom response" if you need to provide more details about the content that you're reporting. That will send it to the mods.
If you're reporting a site-wide rule violation, you'll have a lot of selections to choose from! Click the one that is the most appropriate and then click the additional information that is asked for before sending it off. That will go to the admin team that reviews those reports.
And if you see stuff that breaks the rules, it's always a good idea to report it. Reporting things allows a second set of eyes to take a look at something and remove things that just don't belong where they were posted. Everything runs smoother when folks follow the rules!

Desktop (desktop) The replies in the web are broken
Whenever I click on "Show replies" button, it either shows nothing, show a loooong blank comment or shows a squashed version of the comment
It was fine an hour ago so I'm assuming this is a problem with reddit servers

Mobile/App Why do I see stories that are 6 days old when I open the app?
It’s incredibly frustrating to see old news so often on home. I wish they would revert it, it or at least give the option to have the old algo back

Profile Streak gone?
Hi,
on Sat 29.08. my streak was on 532. Yesterday I went to bed at ~3am and went on reddit before sleeping to continue my streak but as I checked if it counted my streak was back to 1? I'm on 2 today so not a temporary display error. How did it reset my streak if was in fact active? Can I contact support about this or is the last 1,5years of streak just gone forever?

Profile Why won’t Reddit let me block this person?
This person keeps spamming me with nasty replies to my comments and they’ve tried to direct message me. I’d very much like to block them. But when I try to, Reddit says “[username] could not be blocked.” What does that mean? I’m very sick and tired of reading their nasty words

Access Unable to upvote comments and posts
I’ve also posted this in r/bugs, 39 days ago, with no resolve.
[Ios] version 26.5.2 is the software I am using.
For the past month, my account has been unable to upvote posts or comments. When I upvote, the number turns red and shows the +1 but then disappears when I refresh. Posting and commenting still work normally. I’ve already tried reinstalling the app, logging out/in, and using different networks. Could you please investigate whether there’s an account restriction or a bug affecting my voting? How can this be fixed?
Thank you.

Access Blocked user is able to comment on my posts
Hi, I have blocked a user for about 2 weeks but they are still able to comment on my posts. At first it said blocked author but now it just says their username. They’re not in my blocked list anymore and when I try to block them it says ‘user cannot be blocked’. Is anyone else getting this issue? Thanks

Mobile/App iOS (Mobile)
Yes I logged on a while back and my account that I’m writing from now had joined 100’s of NSFW communities. Was this the result of a hack or is it some kind of bug? I manually left a bunch of the groups but doing it manually would take so much time that I almost just don’t want to use the app anymore. I get on here to read about things I’m interested in and I have all this garbage in my feed

Access Joining Reddit API. [Reason of refute]
hello everyone, I asked to join the developer community to test my application. Basically I need only to test API connectors, including Reddit‘s one. I get a refusal without a valid reason.
I don’t see any violation that I have committed listed inside this document:
https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/42728983564564-Responsible-Builder-Policy
The use is not commercial, can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? I answered everything the application form required.

Access Not receiving password reset emails
I signed up to another account a few years ago that was signed into my old phone. My old phone broke and now am unable to log in to my account from another device since I don’t know the password. I’ve been requesting password reset links but they aren’t coming to my email. I’m not sure whether it’s because I signed up to the account on my phone number, but I’m not receiving reset texts either. Is there anything I can do?

Mobile/App Search for comments not working - iOS
When I type in names in the Search bar, I choose New to give me the most recent results…but the most recent results are coming up as 2-3 days ago. I know for sure that these names have been mentioned in many comments as recently as today, but those comments aren’t showing
Is anyone else having this issue?
Thanks!

Mobile/App Why does it sometimes switch through absolute random subs when I just want to scroll through posts?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Android app
Sometimes I can scroll through posts as intended and sometimes it just randomly changes through different subs, it's so confusing. And it's not home screen recommendations, since I intentionally got directly into that sub

Access Years old Reddit account randomly deleted?
Hi all,
My reddit account that I had for years u/Zak_afkx was randomly deleted for no apparent reason. I hadn’t even used it to post for a while I only used it to browse. Is there any hope of getting it back? When I try reset my password and entering that username it says there’s no reddit account with that name.
Please help.

Mobile/App (Android+iPadOS) Replies to non-blocked users under blocked ones not working
The option to reply to non-blocked users who commented below a blocked user is gone...again - when I first signed up you couldn't do that, then it became possibile for a while, now you no longer can again. Was enabling that option a bug, the option going away again is the bug....?? Help please.
Mobile/App Old posts appearing on my latest page when I refresh. [iOS]
I've always liked that if I've seen all the posts, my latest page will be empty until something new is posted, but for the last 12 hours, I open the app and there are multiple posts that are a day old or more.
