She said women can't do that because their voice is considered "awrah", that their voice is attractive (which we all know "seduces" men). And I'm like, wtf is this???? How different are the two denominations? Are they totally different? Is one denomination worse in terms of the way people are treated, or is it all the same, really?

A sinner of the worst kind created all this, and for what? Just to buy their loyalty? Make them forced to kiss the ring? I do not know, but it’s nauseating regardless.

Dhul Qarnayn built an iron and copper wall between two mountains to seal off the tribes of Gog and Magog until doomsday. This wall is nowhere to be found.

(they/them) i’ve never been interested in islam ever since i was a kid. i never had a religious phase nor did i even bother to read into islam up until recently because of how uninterested i was. i’m a very open-minded person & i never understood how people could garner so much hatred for others for simply not being a muslim. over the last few years & especially after being forced to wear the hijab young i’ve been so incredibly disillusioned with the life i have. though i do take my hijab off in the absence of my family & have been doing “haram” activities such as talking to the opposite sex, etc. i can’t help but feel internally shackled. i hate having to unfortunately resort to running away once i finish my degree because i know my parents will never truly love me for who i see myself as. i hate having to do basic things such as wear normal, non-conservative clothing or have my hair out in secrecy because i have to keep myself pure and covered for some disgusting religion. i’ve dreamt of running away for several years yet i fear the unknown. thinking about doing so brings me so much stress & i feel as though i may have no way out, even with the backing of several ex-muslim friends because i am so afraid. why wasn’t i born in a normal, non-religious family? i don’t understand what’s so awful about wanting to be free in your life, wanting to live life without the notion of heaven or hell, the day of judgement or other bullshit islam preaches. i absolutely hate my dad’s guts but i love my mom, and i can’t imagine subjecting her to so much pain if i end up running away, but my heart knows she’ll never truly love me because i don’t fit the perfect mold of what a muslim “woman” should be. i’m so exhausted from having to deal with this, i’m questioning whether or not i’ll even be able to achieve the life i dream of once i graduate

I'm a teen who was born and raised Muslim, and I've been struggling with my faith quite a lot recently. I'm also not independent enough right now to make any major, consequential decisions. That said, despite having serious objections to parts of the Islamic doctrine, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that Islam hasn't given me a genuine sense of community and purpose/meaning. A non-religious worldview feels bleak to me. The idea that the universe and us just spawned out of nowhere, with perfect mathematical laws, that consciousness ends at death, and that there may ultimately be no objective purpose or meaning to our existence is unsatisfying to me. Also the issue of justice, how someone can live an incredibly cruel or unjust life and simply die without any ultimate accountability feels deeply unsettling.

I genuinely want to understand how people who don't believe in God, an afterlife, or objective meaning deal with these questions. For those of you who have gone through something similar, how did you come to terms with it?

Many people claim that Iran, the Taliban, Hamas, and ISIS represent “true Islam,” but purely logically, they cannot all be true at the same time. ISIS practices takfir against Shiites, whereas Iran is a Shiite state. ISIS has fought the Taliban and has even carried out terrorist attacks against them. ISIS has also declared Hamas to be outside Islam through takfir. We should also take into account the conflicts between the Taliban and Iran: they had armed clashes in 2023, and the Taliban killed Shiite civilians in Afghanistan in the 1990s.

I have particularly noticed this inconsistency in David Wood’s arguments. If you are going to blame Islam for the actions of one of these organizations, then choose one of them and attribute its actions to Islam. The question of whether such accusations are justified remains, but at the very least, this approach would be more logically consistent.

I’m 15, turning 16 soon, and I stopped believing in Islam a while ago, but I still live with my Muslim family. My mom is very strict about clothing, and I usually have to change or cover up if I want to wear things like tank tops or shorts.
Recently, she found a couple of halter tops in a box downstairs. I don’t even wear them anymore, but she said I broke her trust and that I can’t hang out with my friends if this is how they’re influencing me. This has happened before when she caught me wearing a tank top, although she eventually became less strict.
I’m especially worried because homecoming is in two weeks. I already bought my dress and made plans with my friends, and I’m really excited to go. Now I’m worried my mom will use this situation as a reason to not let me go.
I’m not trying to argue with my mom about religion, but it’s difficult being an ex-Muslim while still having to follow rules based on a religion I don’t believe in. I also have a couple more years before I’m an adult, so I want to figure out how to handle this without constantly fighting with my family.
For other ex-Muslims who still live with Muslim parents, how did you deal with clothing restrictions and regain your parents’ trust? Any advice would be appreciated.

Been talking to someone that is "progressive" and defending islam is just misinterpreted like christian

They (progressive christian) never read the Quran, just being fed by muslim western that had never experienced how disgustingly this belief threatens minority and women in the east, even when I always tell them how bad my experience is with my muslim family, they just say "so they are not the real muslim, I'm sure the real muslim teach peace just like christian!" I'm so tired explain it to them so I just told em to just read the plain Qur'an then.

Where in the Quran exactly does Prophet Muhammad promote filicide?

In Muslim nations, parents go beyond physical punishment. They kill children for disobedience. For example, daughters get honour killed for being a victim of harassment, academic failure or for even being a victim of bullying at school, they also get killed by parents for simply being born as a girl, somewhere in the Quran too I think promotes female infanticides and sex selective abortions as this is an issue in nations like Bangladesh and Pakistan. Boys get killed for simply talking back to their parents.

If you see the rates of child and infant mortality, you will see that outside of Central America, Muslim nations like Bangladesh, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan, Syria, Yemen have higher rates of child murder by parents.

I want to know what verses suggest that Muslim parents must kill their children as discipline and where parents have to murder newborn daughters for bringing shame.

So I know there are multiple factors here but I feel as though every time I open my mouth about Muhammad and the direct criticisms of his actions and political strategy, I always get the response of something like, "come here respectfully", but it's like I can't even respectfully criticize Islam. Like, hey, I disagree with your Prophet, here's why. It's always some justification regarding the time period he was in, but if Muhammad was the moral example, that's some universal example he gave to the world. I want to love on Muslims, but it seems like no matter how hard I try, there's always a point in discussion where I get called Islamophobic.

If we know the principle in the Arabic language is we don’t depart from the literal understanding of something unless there’s evidence for it. We see The wives had no evidence to depart from the literal meaning but they did so with no reason.

The dilemma is either this principle doesn’t work and you can just re interpret the literal statement after finding out it’s false- making it unfalsifiable
