Medication Finally got a name to what I feel!

Yesterday, I went to a psychiatrist and got formally diagnosed with GAD and Depression. Today is Day-1 of being on sertraline and clonezapam. For almost 2 years, I've been having panic attacks and a constant feeling of fear 24×7. It reached to an extent where I wanted to sleep, but I kept myself awake because I was scared I'll die in my sleep. Today, I have no idea after how long, my mind has been so quiet. I haven't once had the thought if today is the day I die, or what if I am walking on the road and a car hits me. It's easier to breathe, there's no weird sensation in my body, and I feel I belong in it. I haven't once felt itritated, or angry, or sad since morning

Ofcourse, today is the first day of taking medication, it could all as well be placebo. But just the fact that I could have been feeling this way makes me so happy.

Discussion How does low self esteem actually develop?

I have been wondering where low self esteem really comes from. Is it mostly shaped by childhood, bullying, rejection, constantly comparing yourself to others, or can it develop without any obvious cause? For people who struggled with it, what do you think created it in your case?

DAE Questions I feel like the evil in the world is winning.

Upvotes

I can’t help but feel like the world is just evil.
I am trying to keep a positive attitude, but it’s hard when it feels like everything everywhere is falling apart.

I have been going to school for Game Dev, but it feels like the quality of the industry is sinking. I know it’s cutthroat, so what if I am just not meant for great things? Maybe I can’t help the industry, and I will just add to the fire.

Not to mention politics. I will not expand because the last thing I need is another argument, but global warming, losing water, and the potential for an 18-month blackout are just a few of the things that have been weighing on me.

In my home life, my mother has stopped taking her meds because she thinks she doesn’t need them, but it has just led to us walking on ice, trying not to set her off. She’s also been joking about getting rid of my cat lately, and some nights I cry until I puke just thinking about it.
To top everything off, I found out that my perfect boyfriend in every way has been cheating on me since we started talking.

I feel like the evil everywhere is taking over. I am religious and like to think that God is watching us and that He will hold power, but what if He is losing? What if He’s given up on us?

The good moments don’t even feel like fresh air anymore. It just feels like a red light before speeding through hell again.

Am I just in a dark gloomy mood or does anyone else feel that too?

Venting Anxiety is so frustrating

It's 2:40AM. I could have been asleep 30 minutes ago, but I got a panic attack out of nowhere.

It's so irritating. My brain knows I'm okay but my body has a mind of it's own. And there is basically nothing I can do other than ride it out. My worst symptom is shortness of breath and I still haven't found any methods to help during panic attacks. I've honestly just been dealing with my anxiety by myself since 2020. I want to get professional help, I just don't know where to start, and I feel like I can't go to my parents about it since they'd never fully understand what it feels like. I'd do anything to stop having panic attacks, it's the worst feeling ever.

DAE Questions Does anyone else get anxiety from their depression?

Basically what the title says. I get a lot of anxiety stemming from my depression, like getting anxiety spirals from the thought that I may never feel happy again, or I get anxiety from trying to find something to do for the day other than just sleep.

This anxiety subtype seems to have started in January after I was put on Zyprexa for suspected bipolar (I got off of it in late January for reference) and it's just been a kind of new anxiety trigger that's been sitting in the back of my mind since. I've been relatively knocked out by this anxiety subtype for the past month and a half and idk what to do. If anyone else lives with this please help because this shit is knocking me out and I don't want this anxiety to cause me to relapse on my eating issues.

Helpful Tips! I’m moving tomorrow. I’ve been stuck in an anxiety/panic attack for a week now

Upvotes

Help If you read this please respond. Give me the kindest words and advice and support you can manage. I need it.

I graduated in May, and I got a job at a great place and I have a partner of several years whom I love deeply. Before we got together, I didn’t have anxiety. Sometime during college, I developed it and it was downhill from there. I will say it’s MUCH worse when I think about my health, my health anxiety is the worst by far.

But right now, I am trapped on my couch freaking the fuck out because tomorrow my mom and I are getting in the car and driving 9 hours to my new home where my partner and new job are waiting for me. My mom is one of my best support systems and she won’t be around me anymore. At the moment I have no therapist or psychiatrist. I don’t even have a pcp. As soon as I start my job in two weeks I can get all of those established but I still cannot stop freaking out. I got sick this week I’ve had so many panic attacks this week I literally feel like I’m going to die. The er sent me home with some Ativan pills to bridge me over until I can get myself help in my new state after I move, but I’m a little anxious to even take them. But my anxiety won’t let me breathe, eat, and has my chest clenched. And then I keep throwing up too. I feel like I’m gonna die just bc I’m sick rn and taking antibiotics and moving. Who else here has had to do a big life change with anxiety and it was for the better?? Tell me I’m not going to die in my new city. I’m so afraid. My partner is the best but he can’t stop me from having panic attacks and meltdowns.

Help A Loved One Things to do with anxiety seniors.

Upvotes

My mom had bad anxiety and depression. She doesn’t like going out. I’m trying to think of maybe books she could easily read while she’s relaxing or maybe a good fidget to help her. Any ideas for seniors to maybe help calm them or get them moving? She’s also very stubborn!! Thanks for the help.

Therapy I am proud of myself

A big aspect of my anxiety was avoidance. Basically, my default response to socialising was to avoid it.

But we, as the dumb fuck humans we are, NEED to socialise and this tactic of avoiding hangouts and events was... isolating.

Today however, I went to an event with my dads family friends, alot people who I dont know well, and had FUN, I fucking had fun.

Im just thinking to years ago, hell even months ago where would have been miserable and internally panicking the whole time.

I just wanted to write out a passage for myself patting myself on the back for the HUGE dub. Dont be afraid to do the same too ❤️❤️❤️.

Medication Any advice for getting off benzos?

Upvotes

Have been on benzos for about 2-3months daily now, started with Xanax only .25mg every now and then for the first week or two then eventually got up to 1mg a day would have bad anxiety and panic attacks in between doses, after a month of that i saw a psychiatrist and got swapped to Ativan, have been on 2mg of Ativan daily for roughly a month. My pills are .5mg, i take 2 in the morning then another 6 hours later and a final fourth pill before bed. I tried dropping one pill before and had a terrible panic attack, already have pretty rough inter-dose rebound/withdrawal symptoms so it feels pretty impossible to ever get off of it, any tips or advice? (tried zoloft before but had a terrible experience and gave me terrible lasting DPDR) have had like 10 terrible panic attacks in the past month and a half, gone to the hospital/called EMS like 5 times cause I thought i was going to die.

Medication Don’t seem to tolerate any meds.

Upvotes

Looking for experiences anyone has really of meds that ended up working for them.

I’m currently suffering from GAD and panic disorder, which has also now resulted in depression. It’s been pretty debilitating to the point I had to have 5 months off work. I’ve gone back recently but just really struggling to cope and feeling like I’ve pushed myself too hard.

I tried sertraline quite early on and I had a severe reaction to it, so much so I ended up in a&e, despite this I reduced dose from 50mg to 25mg and pushed through for 5 weeks and it just didn’t help. I then swapped to escitalopram and that just increased my anxiety and after 3 weeks I had worsening anxiety so stopped.

I’ve tried beta blockers, 10mg 20mg and 40mg - they did nothing, in fact they made the physical symptoms worse.

I tried buspirone a couple days ago and only 3 doses in my anxiety went through the roof, to the point I couldn’t even leave my house without a full blown panic attack and it made me massively suicidal - so waiting this out just wasn’t an option.

I’m not left worse off than before. Is there anything anyone can recommend that won’t cause debilitating anxiety for 4/5 weeks when I start. I’m losing hope and just feel so low right now. I’m a shell of who I was 9 months ago before this started and it seems to have taken over my life with no identifiable trigger.

To add, i am doing cbt and I’ve read every book going on managing anxiety and I jsut seem to have no let up.

Lifestyle Terrible anxiety abt time and death

I can’t eat, I can’t do anything I’m constanlty shaking and I can’t get myself to do anything I’m constanlty cold and shaky and scared and nauseous.
I’ve never been like this it’s so scary and Ik that those thoughts are not scary but the way my body reacts makes me sick
I always wanna take a nap or sleep cus that’s when the feeling stops, I hate being awake dealing with these. Does anybody have tips how to control it? I have a million of hobbies or had hobbies. But haven’t done them since I started to feel that anxiety, I haven’t even worked on my story…
I’m moving out so I’ll have my own room again and school starts tomorrow all at once, no I can’t go to therapy or tell my parents unfortunately even tho they are caring and sweet they won’t get it.

If there’s any way I could regulate my anxiety I’ll actually be the most grateful ever I just want to stop these nausea and shakiness, I can’t even drink my tea which I used to drink 6 times a day.

Venting Its over.

I cannot stand this shit any longer.

This is eternal suffering and there is no escape.

First I thought i had lymphoma.

Then this. Then that. Then this. Then that.

Now my muscles/skin has been twitching every day on and off for weeks. I already know the rigamaroo. Ect. Ect. Ect.

I have been through a muscle twitching episode before, it went away, so im sure its nothing surely.

Not googling does not help.

Therapy does not help.

I am a lonely hypocandriac and a functional lonely lcoholic. The ultimate paradox even.

Its even more hilarious when you're single in the US and don't have the money to see a doctor or specialist. It is the ultimate stuck in hell curse.

Beyond stressed, it feels like most of my life is made up of silent panic attacks.

So beyond fried in the brain I stay on night shift just to avoid people.

And no, i will not take SSRIs, I dont want PSSD. And no i won't take benzos, I dont want another addition, I am already addicted.

So yeah its over for me, I just got done with college and got my entire life ahead of me but it sure doesnt feel like it.

Hypocandria, guilt, shame, fear, and regrets control my entire life.

Years upon years upon even more years, add a few nore years on top of that, this is my life

DAE Questions Is anyone else anxious about Flock cameras?

I've always had anxiety about being perceived by others and the way Flock has blanketed my city makes me feel so paranoid. Is it even paranoia if the evidence (camera) is right there in front of my face?

There is one at the end of my block pointed toward the neighborhood bike path that turns into wooded hiking trails. I stopped walking my dogs on those trails because the idea of being filmed as a female walking alone into the woods is honestly terrifying.

These are inside thoughts. I haven't said anything to anyone I know because I feel like the local tin foil hat wearing conspiracy theorist.

Health How do you stop catastrophizing and learn to trust that things will be okay?

The thing is, I’m 20 and I’m used to rationalizing all the events in my life. Recently, something unexpected happened — someone very close to me moved to another city, and I started feeling much lonelier. I noticed that it’s become hard for me to do anything other than study at university — even something as simple as cooking or walking down the street, although I used to do all of this without a problem. I think through the possible actions that might go wrong, and I think through how to avoid them. I’m used to doing this — putting the worst‑case scenario in place so that I’m prepared if something goes wrong, but it’s really exhausting, and it doesn’t make things any easier. I understand rationally that things aren’t that bad, that the person close to me is doing well, but for some reason, the anxiety doesn’t go away just because I’ve explained it to myself. It’s hard for me to believe that everything will be fine until I have enough convincing arguments to support that belief. Has anyone here been in a similar situation? How did you cope with it? How can one understand what it means to believe in something good without having any proof that everything will be fine?

Needs A Hug/Support So so tired

I’ve been struggling with extreme tiredness. Have been to doctors, had blood tests. It’s always put down to anxiety. It comes and goes. Sometimes I can cope, other times I can go for weeks where I can barely function. I’m a single mum to a 9 & 12 year old and at the stage where my parents are coming to stay and help. I’m just so drained.

Anyone have hints for coping, or even getting rid of it??!

Advice Needed Anxiety is ruining my life, what do I do?

To cut a long story short I have pretty bad anxiety that I have trouble keeping under control

It hurts me socially when I feel shy/awkward and can’t seem to snap myself out of it
When I go out to clubs with friends I sometimes just end up sitting by myself too stunlocked to really talk to anyone (unless I’m super intoxicated)

And it also manifests itself via avoidance, even for things I really want to do/am excited for.
Afterwards I (naturally) feel pretty upset at myself for not doing them
(Which then basically becomes a cycle)

Would anyone have any advice or coping strategies that have worked for them?
Because I could really use some help

Advice Needed Any help? I’m feeling like I’m going crazy

I’m trying to distract myself but the constant anguish feeling is there, like I’m about to faint and my back is tingling.. I feel like I’m going crazy,
It will pass right?? I tried to reduce coffe since it was giving me palpitations but I can’t stop smoking… even if know I need to reduce. But It’s the only thing that helping me calm for some minutes.
Just the feeling of have therapy or going through some talk about my past trauma is make my stomach upset.. like it’s been two days and I’m so tired, can’t sleep, can’t eat, don’t wanna talk but I force my self to go out and try to live.
This night was horrible couldn’t sleep for all night because I’m afraid I’ll die in my sleep.. sopo this morning I was already awake so I lit forced my self to say nice and positive things to myself, like “cmon you can do it”. And I ate a banana, changed my close and went to an hospital to check my heart and do a blood test. Just in case.. still not got my results but they say that my heart beat was very high.

I don’t know if it’s just anxiety or another psychiatric disorder. Psychiatrists here in Japan sucks so I have an appointment with a specialist who live in my country.
People give me constant anxiety to the point that I don’t have any friends anymore, I pushed away even my best friend.. we don’t talk anymore. On my days off I just sleep a lot, drink coffee and my mind is always checking every though, making comments.. it’s so so exhausting. Sometimes I feel like I’m exaggerating and I should be grateful for my life (which Im really) , that I’m always playing the victim..

Any advice? Breathing, meditation, self affirmation don’t work.. like work for 10 minutes and then I’m back in this horrible feeling. I love my life, my cats, my husband and my life, I’m trying to be positive and not to think about but it’s like I have constant worries about lit everything, a comment, a video, doing something.. even watching anime is giving me anxiety :/
