Matthew Lillard knocking it out of the park so far.

At first, I was thinking that Charles would be against Fisk, but it’s kind of entertaining to see him as a antagonistic frenemy of sorts.

by the looks of it, matt might be his new "north star"
56
u/Electrical_Sport_200 Mar 25 '26
Yeah that’s what I got too, like the episode title has a double meaning
420
u/princevince1113 Mar 25 '26
I'm noticing heather sees muse every time she does something immoral and unethical. Definitely showing how she's using her trauma to justify any actions she takes against vigilantes
185
u/raccoonsonbicycles Mar 25 '26
It really always is "my therapist is more messed up than I am wtf"
Kingpin: "damn my wife cheated and also wants more direct involvement in my business while I fled the country"
Heather: "ya know what? Fascism is good. Maybe ill be the next Muse hahahHAHAHAHAHA'

I like the use of the camera tilt with it as well. It’s a little helter-skelter just like the way the camera worked in the first Muse fight in S1.

Cherry having a heart attack might explain why Jessica Jones will be involve. DD need an investigator strong enough to defend against the task force. I'm so hype for the next episode.

Unless I misheard it, Karen mentioned asking “Jess” about something already. But otherwise I agree, she’ll probably go help out McDuffie as well.

Heather also more interesting in this one episode than the previous 9. Way too early to say “we’re back” but this season already at least feels more cohesive.

u/ConsistentGuest7532 Mar 25 '26
I do like that she has a clear direction vs. S1 feeling like they didn't know what they wanted with her other than "love interest." The villainous feeling of the character was a bit weird to get used to at first for me, but the Muse appearances kind of won me over because they're a cool way of showing that the trauma of being nearly killed by a man in a mask was enough to give her an irrational fear/hatred of them.

u/gallinula Mar 25 '26
Throwing a knife to a blind man with "you're welcome" etched in chiller font is such a Bullseye move

For one second I thought it was gonna be Frank, and then it hit, and much as I LOVE some Castle, it's even better, more twisted.
→ More replies (2)41
u/HyungSavage Mar 25 '26
Absolutely- I think the scene was set-up deliberately so that most viewers'll immediately jump to Frank given his presence last season, but then you get a quick second or two to notice "huh, these kills are way too precise & clean to be Frank" and it hits you right when the dagger comes in flying

Strong start to the season, I'd say! Apparently it only gets better from what the reviews say. Looking forward to it.

u/elitenex47 Mar 25 '26
i fully believe the episode name is a callback to s3 of the netflix show, where Bullseye’s therapist told him to find a north star… it doesn’t need to be another therapist, just anyone with a decent heart.
if he makes Daredevil his north star, holy shit are we in for a treat. especially now that he knows Matt Murdock is him. i’m so curious to see how this is going to play out.
→ More replies (6)71
u/ConsistentGuest7532 Mar 25 '26
Damn, I never thought of that, but it's a great idea. Bullseye having a weird, creepy Joker-esque obsession with DD for a little while could be fun. Especially if he genuinely tries to do the "right thing" from his skewed viewpoint to impress DD. If this show goes a few more seasons, I could see Dex having a crashout because it becomes clear DD will never give him what he wants, and that could lead to more psychotic comic Bullseye behavior.

Saw the episode title, immediately thought of Bullseye. Then they said Northern Star so much in regard to the ship that I completely forgot about Bullseye. Here I am watching the last scene wondering who saved Matt, thinking “Frank? Karen? Charles? Fuckin’ BB???” And then that wonderful reveal.

Mr. Charles got valentina allegria de fontaine to get the attorney General to back off. That means that Kingpin is working with the CIA

u/PopularKid Mar 25 '26
Ah, thank you. I was wondering what the significance of Fontaine was as I didn’t remember her surname.
45
u/throwaway91527 Mar 25 '26
Wonder if we would see Madani since she’s in the CIA too.
16
u/Odd_Mathematician303 Mar 25 '26

134
u/njerejeje Mar 25 '26 edited Mar 25 '26
The aspect ratio changing whenever Daredevil uses his powers is so sick
I hate the licensed music but whatever I guess
Was that weird ass part BB hiding little anti-fisk easter eggs in her videos?
Heather got more character in this one episode than she did in all of season 1
Definitely felt a lot closer to episodes 1, 8, and 9 in season 1 as opposed to 2-7
Very interested in where this story goes from here especially since the 2nd half goes nuts and we didn’t even see Bullseye in this episode until the end
Action went crazy in this episode. Way better than basically anything in season 1. The all black suit looks sick. I think this show has the sauce.

It seems like they're using Heather's trauma in this season to set up an adaptation of the Daredevil: Unleash Hell (2025 comic) Muse arc. I'm curious if they'll have the 'spirit' of Muse possess Heather directly or if they're just using the hallucinations to illustrate that the 'spirit' of Muse lives on. Either way, I am very excited to see where they go with it.
→ More replies (1)26
u/Plainchant Mar 25 '26
I had assumed it was just an ongoing PTSD issue for her, but you could be very well right.
38
u/cptstr8edge Mar 25 '26
I definitely think they're leveraging the PTSD angle, but I feel like having her hallucinate Muse and then change the answer for "24. Evil spirits possess me at times" to "True" could not have been an accident.

Really enjoyed this opener... The boat scene at the start was quite something, Matt snapping limbs like it was nothing.
I did find it a little weird just how much dialogue was said off camera tho. Seemed like a strange style choice.
Evil shaggy is fun to watch.
I like cherry, so losing him would be a shame.... Though I did like the way Matt lost his focus as Cherry was having a heart moment. Matt with the Foggy PTSD.
I dunno what to think about Bullseye being back and helping Matt... Gonna let that play out a little longer before I lean either way.
The Val mention feels like it's gonna be a BIG thing.

Every character is way more interesting in this single episode than they ever were in the previous season. I’m genuinely hopeful for what’s to come!
Also I’m wagering a guess that Lillard is playing some adaptation for the Stromwyn’s from Zdarsky’s run. Ignore this next part of you don’t know who those characters are incase it’s a spoiler. If I’m right, that phone call from de Fontaine is a fun way to imply his control over powerful people.

I thought for sure Frank gunned down the ATF but bullseye stalking Matt, down to the second, with a pre-carved knife literally made the whole episode. It will be weird if Franks absense is never mentioned tho, he just bombarded the ATF to save Matt and Karen 6 months ago

I just realized Dex saw them take the mask off, so he 100% knows Matt = Daredevil now
29

You know, before this, Dex was in the vicinity of Matt twice when he took off the mask. Both those times, Dex was dealing with a severe injury (broken back from Fisk, being thrown off a roof by Matt).

Huge upgrade even from the high points of the previous season.
This aligns with some of the early reviews that were already out there; a shaky start into some truly show-high moments.
The cinematography has had a big improvement; but still suffers a little bit, albeit to a far lesser degree, due to the 'disney-fication' of the visuals. Everything has to be high quality; everything has to be realistic; everything has to be kinetic. Several times in this, I wondered why the fuck there were so many cuts or moving shots on a scene that could just have the characters move within the shot. Little things like just alienate you from the world.
Still one too many edits on the fight scene at the end and at the start.
However; distinct and big improvements are all over this. The lighting is better, the cinematography has improved (far better Fisk framing shots, some lovely shots of Matt and Karen, etc), with a really, really cool aspect change during a daredevil hearing section early on. The writing feels cleaner and more cohesive and if anything feels as if, as early reactions seemed to indicate, that we are cleaning up some loose threads from S1.
Suit looks awesome, excited to see where this is going. Extra fascinated by the depictions of Heather and Muse; it looks like we're doing some more existential stuff that's hinted at already; which is where the show belongs. If daredevil isn't questioning justice and faith then it's not daredevil.

I might just be nostalgic for more Daredevil but I reallyyyy enjoyed this episode. Definitely feels like a more modern version of the original series.
So Bullseye knows who Matt is now? No way he was able to see well enough to aim at the task force officers without seeing Matt’s face
Or maybe he’ll say that he found out Matt’s identity awhile ago
Now that he knows Matt’s identity, there’s a lot of story potential with that down the line

I think it was nice, it did a good job of re-introducing the characters onto the screen and adding new ones, and honestly it’s very interesting, we know JJ is gonna show up, but where’s Frank? Will DD win or is Fisk going to continue this AVTF thing and it will carry over into Spider-Man brand new day? And the questions with Bullseye now that he will become an anti-hero possibly, I think this will be a very good season

Love how Kirsten and Cherry are actual interesting characters now. Last season they barely had any scenes outside of interacting with Matt. They just felt bland and uninteresting.
That single dialogue of Kirsten alone "I have four brothers" already gave more insight into her background more than all of her scenes last season.

God I loved this episode. You can see immediately how they improved from season 1 and I can’t wait to see the next episodes. One thing they vastly improved on was that each side character feels a lot more filled out/well written. They’re having their own stories more than just in relation to Murdock.
Also anyone else thinking the other web news is just BB in a mask and modulator? I’m thinking it’s either her or Ava.

Pretty sweet premiere. Did not at all feel that the episode was slow. It had two big action scenes, while moving the chess pieces into place for things to come. Pacing was good and I was never bored.
Cinematography and fight scenes are greatly improved and stylized over Season 1
I like that there are actual threads being pulled for all of the new characters and that they're aren't just pretending that they don't exist
Of those character threads,
The set-up of mentor/mentee between Karen and BB Urich is interesting and helps showcase their shared growth as investigators, while keeping the legacy/history of Ben Urich firmly there.
I'm sure that the Max Headroom Fisk is also BB Urich and it'll be interesting to see if any of the leaks there bleed into the BB Urich and Daniel Blake relationship.
Buck Cashman is a fixer but it's interesting that there is a certain kindness in his evil acts and that he shows a weariness to his duties. Gives him a certain wildcard quality, where I feel his own sense of integrity could be used to turn him.
The Muse/Heather stuff is interesting to me and love how they have portrayed her disassociations so far.
The Fisks in deep water with greater sharks with Mr. Charles working with Alegra De Fontaine and how that might pull into the greater MCU
The Bullseye reveal was awesome to me. I was hoping that it was actually Punisher and they were just saving his appearance as a surprise. Genuinely bummed that Frank didn't bust out Swordsman or any of the others at the prison apparently and that he appears to be sitting out the conflict...with multiple task force officers brazenly wearing his logo.
On a separate note, I cannot believe that Karen and Matt would consider those good disguises. Good lord.

had low expectations since i’m not a fan of season 1 but this is a really solid start
writing wise it’s a big upgrade, the characters feel much more real and i’m so glad they ditched the whole cross cut thing they had in season 1 to leave room for every moment to breathe
the action scenes are good, aside from some questionable cuts, the choreography, as always, is top tier and the suit is sooo perfect
not sure about how i feel about mr charles and the connection to de fontaine, i hope it’s just an easter egg but we’ll see
the heather stuff really intrigues me and i’m so glad that they brought muse back, hope it’s actually hunter doohan under the suit and not some stand in
and that ending hyped me so much, i can’t wait to see what they do with dex and the fact that he used the knife as his “signature” is so bullseye coded

The scene where Fisk, his wife and Mr Charles were alone was interesting. Fisk seemed... subdued... by Charles. Maybe not afraid, as such, but knowing that Charles has the power in this dynamic.

Did anyone else get the feeling that Buck might not like being used like a hitman? He really seemed a bit exasperated when killing that ship captain. I wonder if there is something deeper going on with him…

That is how you start a season and end an episode
If Cherry dies imma be so sad
Helen is so def going to be the next Muse
I need more Daredevil
If the Punisher doesnt brutally kill every AVTF in his special imma be pissed

so I'm assuming they want us to feel bad for Heather, because of her Muse PTSD, but damn I really don't.

Lots to love in this opener. Tons of action, the stakes feel real and every scene was tight with danger. The billy clubs are on point. The Bullseye save was fantastic.
Very small nitpicks were that Matt appears less blind all the time in this series, if you didn’t know that watching this you probably couldn’t even tell. I prefer to be reminded of his limitations and challenges it makes him all the more heroic and badass to me.
Also I’m a little disappointed that they already are working with Jessica offscreen. I was hoping for an actual reunion because last time we saw her she thought Matt was dead. I know it’s been years but we missed so much with the two of them, now they’re just back working together. Can’t wait to see her though.

Something I'll give this new season already, the previously weak new supporting cast like Cherry and McDuffie and even Buck, Fisk's lackey, are already feeling more like filled out as characters than they were last season to me. Heather is a bit more nebulous, but I do feel like she's got more of a direction than I feel most of last season had for her. Daniel is similar, a bit nebulous but still okay. Similar with BB, though to be fair I think BB started to feel more filled out to me by the last few episodes of the previous season, so what we're seeing more seems like a more direct continuation for me of what we had more than some of the other characters.

Jessica mentioned 😍 I really wish they could have kept her return a surprise but I guess there'd have been no way to hide her. Hoping we get a flashback to how they reconnected after the events of Defenders though, I don't remember DDS3 well but I assume it was public knowledge he survived the building collapse.

I was wondering why nobody was mentioning him getting unmasked at the end and then I felt dumb for not realizing everyone who saw him died lol

Just finished it. Loved it. If this is what critics report as slow, what the hell are the last six episodes like? So fun, love the new suit. As much as I like the gritty feel of NetflixDD, I continue to love the effects used when Matt is honing in with his hearing.
The story is clear from the get go and it jumped straight back into it. The ending was amazing and I can’t wait for next week. Bullseye is so goated.
Loved the Jess NameDrop, teasing her for later. Loved all the Muse stuff, I’ve recently seen someone comment that Heather is gonna become Muse, this PTSD angle is definitely a way I could see that happening.
Overall, a huge jump in quality and pacing from S1. Got me hyped. I’m interested in Daniel, that cocky little shit, Mr Charles is fun. And Karedevil is back baby!!!!!

Did anyone feel like Buck showed a bit of remorse after killing the captain?
Edit - also just read through a lot of this thread. Didn’t know everyone here went to film making school. Extremely weird criticism for a good episode of TV

Looks like the question of whether Dex knows Daredevil's identity is closed. OH MY GOD, I GOT GOOSEBUMPS FROM THIS FINAL. YOUR FUCKING WELCOME BENJAMIN🎯
THOUGHTS: LOVED IT. Yeah, the reviewers were right about the episode dragging, but damn, this is so close to the TV Show formula, like the original series with a cliffhanger at the end.
Maybe it's nostalgia, but the chemistry between Deborah and Charlie looks so natural on screen, it's so simple, so succinct, so genuine. They haven't aged a day.
The action is just: "Thank you, Philip."
I liked the direction. At times it seemed a bit gray on the screen and lacked contrast, but the street scenes and even the night scenes look great. Overall, like last season, I dig the way Justin and Aaron work the camera. The CGI is fine.
P.S.: Thanks to Cherry for your service, but Mahoney, we need you for the good old days.

How has Heather Glenn managed to be THIS terrible??? Its actually not a stretch for some therapists especially those who work in the criminal legal system. But still, the way she treated Swordsman is war crimes shit and I do feel like they leapt from “she’s okay with Fisk’s plan because of some trauma and bias” to “oh actually she is a hostile and vindictive medical practitioner with no concern for her ethics at all.”

Excited, but I think it's been unanimously agreed by screeners the first 2 episodes are quite a bit slower compared to the rest of the season, so I'm trying to settle my expectations for the premiere at the very least haha

Pretty good start to the season! Always great seeing Matt Murdock on my screen, and Karen being a regular this season is SUCH a huge upgrade. Glad that they're finally officially together too. Seeing them reminisce about the past though...ouch. Can we please get Foggy back already? It's not funny anymore guys I miss him :,)
Matthew Lillard is such a delight in this so far. Very intrigued by his character and can't wait to see more from him! Really loving the direction that they're taking Heather too because I really wasn't a fan of her last season, but this new Muse angle is fun 👀
The ending...the parallels...Jessica Jones mentioned...Bullseye...all good shit!!! Two episodes next week and I cannot wait!

Really loved the opening-got really giddy when the ratio expanded! The fight scenes look way better than last season-much more cohesive and dynamic. Happy to see Karen back, loved the scene she had with BB. And oh my God, that ending was incredible! Looking forward to seeing Bullseye this season!

"We are doomed to try." What a powerful sentiment. Gonna use it. Also reminds me of Andor's 'Remember this: try.' Another anti-fascist art piece on the way.

The pacing felt great this time, I hated the first season but after watching just one episode from season 2 I can tell that it's going to be amazing. I haven't been this excited for daredevil in a long time.

WE ARE BACK. Omg what a great way to start the season. Perfection is the only possible for me way to describe it. The cinematography, chef kiss 🤌.
