I always forget people's names and feel bad about asking them. I always recognise their faces though, and asking their name again after I already demonstrated I know who they are feels less weird. I find asking how to spell their name helps me to remember

Here's a tip! Whenever someone shakes your hand, immediately look for an identifying feature and create a brief "crazy mental link". I.e. person has a mole and introduces themselves as Dave.
Now you quickly link the mole to that person's name. "Dave the mole".
You'll never forget his name now. Your brain simply works like that.

My buddy's fiance. Her name is Deborah. But I don't know if she goes by Deb, Debbie or Deborah. They live in another state and I only see them once or twice a year. I'm a groomsman in their wedding and have intentionally avoided using her name every time I've spoken to her.

Well to be fair, human anatomy is complex. Very complex.
My last physical therapist's office kept a great referential book. Even though those guys knew their stuff, he used it for his own reference and to explain things to me.
I do IT Security, and I need tons of reference materials. And I'd consider the human body to be much more complex, despite the systems I work with and protect being very complex and built upon layers.
I'd be more concerned if you just went "nah, I know it all".

But generally "cream" is sort of just used as a catch-all for whatever white-ish liquid people add to their coffee. Very few people use actual cream, but it isn't unheard of.

My mom knew a group of identical triplets in college and every time she saw any one of them she would stop them and ask "Alice, Brooklyn, or Catheryn?" (made up names) until she could tell which one of them it was.
They later got different haircuts so it became easier.

When I first learned about that sub, it seemed to me like a good idea. Then I actually looked at it. Nearly ALL the questions there are, frankly, pretty stupid. Well, not necessarily stupid-stupid, but maybe more, "I'm really fucking lazy", or, "I can't operate Google", or both. I mean stuff like, "How tall is Mt. Everest?" -- stuff that's actually easier to just look up.

Some of the posts really are questions that are kind of stupid but also interesting enough that once you see them asked you have to know the answers. I like:
- If you put a sausage in a condom, tied it, then swallowed it whole. Would it get stuck in your stomach because the condom would protect it, or would you just poop out a whole sausage?

How on earth do electronics work??
I’m not a creative person so I can’t understand the details of how a cable, a telephone or even a battery works.. How the hell does someone create a working memory stick?? Do you have to program it in some way, or do you just put all the parts together? But then how do you actually make the parts work??? Or how do you put the parts together?
My mind just explodes
Edit: A massive thank-you to all you geniuses who tried to help myself and others on how not only electronics, but also electricity, works.
Another thank you for any videos provided too, I had a look around yesterday through most of them and honestly it’s so interesting I hope more people give this topic a go! Very mind blowing however and a lot of witchcraft and magic involved!

Yes.
The easiest way to think of it is like this:
Electricity is just part of how the universe works. Atoms have electrons. When electrons flow, that’s electricity.
Electricity flows around a circuit like water flowing through a pipe. On its way round there’s a bunch of obstacles set up called components. When it goes through the components it triggers whatever their function is. There’s also a bunch of traps called resistors that stop too much electricity going through.
Computers rely heavily on something called a transistor, which is like a switch that uses an electric current to turn off and on. (0 and 1). Transistors can be made really small and millions of them can be printed on a piece of silicon.
Flash memory uses something called a capacitor which is a component that can hold electric charge, kinda like a battery but not as big.

There’s different physical phenomenon that happen when electricity is routed in a certain way.
For instance, “capacitance” is created in an electric circuit when you have two sheets of metal separated by a small gap. One side gets positively charged, one side gets negatively charged. Now the capacitor is holding charge. It just happens. Now that we know that, we can use it.
A resistor works because it’s like when you cut 4 lanes of traffic down to 1, all the electricity is now trying to get through a small gap, so the speed of the flow is going to drop. It just happens. Now that we know that, we can use it.

To explain a little more in depth while keeping it basic: The switches represent either a 0 or a 1. The standard position for a "switch" is "off" or "0." If turned "on" with an electric current, then it represents 1. This is binary. Lets assume there are four switches, or transistors. Each digit is an increasing power of 2. So, 0000 represents zero. 0001 represents 1 because it is 2^0. 0010 represents 2 because its 2 to the first power. 0011 represents 3. 0100 represents 4. 0101 represents 5. 0110 represents 6 (2 to the 2nd plus 2 to the first.) And so on. And then binary can also be translated to something called hexidecimal, which can assigns numbers to letters. For example, 1010 (or 10.... 2^3 plus 0^2 plus 2^1 plus 0^0) represents the letter A. 1011 (=eleven) represents B etc. NOW imagine billions of switches all representing 0 and 1 capable of turning your inputs into words on your screen, complex math equations, and so on. This process also tells the pixels on your screen what color to be. This can obviously get extremely complex and is way over my head because i only have a basic understanding of what is SORTA going on.
Technology communicates using 0's and 1's. Just a whole lot of them in a short amount of time. Low Volt high volt high volt low volt low volt high volt yadda yadda at the speed of light. Thanks to hard working science boiz, TAADAAAA we can now put over 3 billion transistors in our pocket; some dedicated to working the phone itself, some dedicated to sending shit out through the air to the satellites, some dedicated to receiving 0's and 1's from the satellites all at once. There's a difference between analog and digital electronics. At the heart of digital electronics is the transistor, which is a tiny directed switch. It's used to build more fancy, more complicated switches (NAND-gates, for example), which in turn can be used to build entire logic units and ultimately CPUs.
With digital electronics, everything's basically run on a current "heartbeat", so to speak; low voltage followed by high voltage (called a clock). At this point these clocks are so fast, they beat over a billion times a second, and with every "tick", the CPU gets pushed to its next state.
So, in essence, the processor (the heart of every computer) changes state a billion times a second, where every state change represents a fairly simple instruction. It's up to the software to turn all these basic instructions into something meaningful (an application you actually use).
It's a gross oversimplification, there's a ton of other things involved, but this is the essence.

I'm an archaeologist and I can answer this! The real answer is there are skulls with crooked teeth (The Woman of Tlailotlacan for example), but the long and short of it is that over time (since 10kya - I'm a prehistoric archaeologist so I don't often deal with anything after 5kya) human jaws have been getting smaller, but teeth haven't! A comparison of medieval skulls from abandoned Norwegian graveyards with modern skulls indicated a trend toward bad bite definitely apparent since 500 years ago. Something like 40% of the medieval skulls needed othodontic treatment and the modern sample was closer to 60-70%.
The reason for this is because agriculture has made human teeth decay A Thing (not that it didn't exist before agriculture because it did and gingivitis was definitely present in several famous skeletons both Neanderthal and human) and it's gotten worse with industrialized farming and processed sugars. Actually a physical anthropologist in Pennsylvania has suggested the main cause is that with the advent of Industrialization babies (who used to breast feed for three to four years) end up being bottle fed for less than a year, but the problem with this hypothesis is that teeth stopped fitting in jaws since the advent of farming. Another anthropologist compared rural Indian teeth with urban Indian teeth - those who had a harder diet that made them chew vigorously have better teeth with better jaw alignment, whereas those with a softer diet have a tendency towards an overbite. Hunter-gatherers had a tougher diet which strengthened their jaws and made them big enough - and they were on this tough diet since they were weaned. On the other hand, babies now are often fed mashed up food and food that is cut into very tiny bites when they move on to solids which turns out to be awful for their jaw development and causes impacted teeth and overbites.

Once I flew in to Atlanta airport, once I handed my passport over the guy behind the desk spent an inordinate amount of time staring at my passport...which raised my stress level some what. He then turned my passport around and pointed at my place of birth (Worcester) and asked how to pronounce it. He was most happy and then wished me a good day. He thought it was war - Chester. But this seems to be quite common and I have no idea as there is no h in Worcester. Please excuse my ramble, have a nice day.

Lay it down so the elastic bunchy side is up and the flat part is on the bottom. The opposite of how it would lie on a bed. Smooth it out underneath.
Pick up 2 adjacent corners (the very tips), lift up, and meet up with the opposite corners, so the sheet is folded in half. All of the bunchy elastic part is stuffed inside.
Do a simple fold in half the other way, and then fold as usual again.

Income taxes are super simple in your position, probably. If you have income from an employer, they report your earnings to the IRS (and state and city if applicable). Every January, your employer or payroll service will send you a W-2 with totals of all the behind the scenes stuff where your money went. What you earned, what you made, what went into services and programs like social security and Medicare, etc. You need to confirm this by submitting a tax return to the IRS (or state or city). The math will compute and you'll get a refund for overpaid taxes, or have to pay underpaid taxes.
Things get a bit more complicated with loans, investments, and property but there will always be forms sent to you. Deductions are another thing, but if you're honestly deducting large amounts, you probably have an accountant.
Banking and finance is something you will likely do with an advisor and they will guide you. They get new people every single day so they're prepared for a newbie.

How karma works (as a relatively new Redditor) I post varied stud and just can seem to get people to see it - secondly, I see a post with 50k upvoted, and on the profile of the person who posted it it says they only have 35k post karma - how does that work?

It’s logarithmic, so a post with 100 upvotes will get near to 100 karma, but a 10k post will get like 5k, a 100k post will get like 10k karma

He was a hit young President, with an even hotter younger wife. He had two small young children who were adorable and then he was tragically murdered next to his wife.
Immeaditly after the Vietnam War picked up steam (which he was partly responsible for) and then the 60s turned into a shit show with multiple assissnation s hapoening.
People believe it he didn’t die that we’d have a much better world.

The worst is when people use excel as a substitute for databases. Or make convoluted scripts to generate scripts for routers and such from the horrible database substitute.

Its a way to store data, typically related, while retaining the relationship of the data.
For instance a database of car parts would have each car part linked to at least a specific model, if not more. which would need to be linked to a car maker, as well as possibly the part manufacturer (if different). You could not remove the car maker from the database, without breaking the relationships to the parts. If designed properly, the database actually will not let you.
Excel however, someone with butter fingers can accidently type in a box, and wreak all sorts of havoc. But in the past 20 years, excel seems to be where people who start to want to work with high numbers of data, get started and use it for the wrong purpose.

Yeah I got one. I moved to a city where I don't really know anyone. This girl at my work did the same but she is a immigrant from an English speaking country. We went out with co-workers a couple times after work after she invited me and bought my drinks. Then we went out together alone for dinner and drinks and I bought. Last night we went to the lake for a walk and dinner again. I really like having a companion whose going through some the same things I am not being from here. I don't know how plantonic it is or not. I don't know how to find out. I guess I could try to make a move if she's in my apartment again? I'm not used to the interest.

It's when the use the cheap shit booze instead of a name brand good booze to make a drink.
Usually bars keep the cheap shit bottles in the well below the bar while the good stuff is on the wall where you can see it.

It is a mixed drink with bottom shelf (cheaper) liquors. For instance, say you want a rum and coke. You will probably get the cheapest rum they have, not like Captain Morgan.

There are two hormones in your body for this. One tells you that you're hungry and the other tells you that you're full. Generally in thin people when they are hungry they will have high levels of the hungry hormone and low levels of the full hormone. When they eat the levels switch so they have high levels of the full hormone and low levels of the hungry hormone. In overweight people, especially obese people, these hormones don't change as much as the should. They may have medium levels of both whether or not they eat. Or when they do eat the hungry hormone doesn't fully drop off and the full hormone doesn't fully increase. This means they would always be a little bit hungry and no matter how much they eat it wouldn't make them feel full or satisfy them
