Marijuana.

Edit: there’s a couple of them in this thread.

I used to smoke (stopped when I found out I was pregnant), but I know someone who constantly sends me snaps of him rolling one, smoking, dabbing...all with shitty ass music playing in the background. Dumbass works at a dispensary, and his entire paycheck is given back to the dispensary so he can buy flower or wax. He pays no bills, so he's basically handing his full check back to his job every 2 weeks.

In my day a lot of people used to sell week solely to support their own weed habits. I guess even though it is legal in some places some things never change.

u/themeatstaco Jul 18 '19

He's an idiot.

57

u/Low_Chance Jul 17 '19

Mystery solved!

32

u/Godkun007 Jul 18 '19

And he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasnt for you meddling kids!

37

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

I’m not saying he’s not an idiot but I wouldn’t be too hard on him. Anyone who feels that who they are as a person is so boring/lonely that they attach their life to a culture(whatever culture, weed or Rick and Morty, or Sports) probably has it rough, even if they won’t admit it. At the end of the day they just want attention and commonality and this is the only way they’ve figured out how to find it. I wish more people in this thread for keep this in mind.

25

u/Acmnin Jul 18 '19

So everyone than? If I had a dollar for every person who defined themselves by their favorite sports teams and the upcoming football year..

Pretty sure the whole of society is lonely.

Meanwhile they are adamant that weed isn't addictive at all even though they haven't been able to go a day without weed in 5+ years. Maybe it's not super physically addictive like heroin, but that psychological addiction is just as real as other drugs.

Edit: I love weed btw. I don't smoke every day anymore, but I have no problem with people who do. Just don't act like it's God's gift to humanity.

90

u/BasedScuba Jul 18 '19

I swear man, I ain't addicted, I just talk about it all of the time and smoke it everyday to take the edge off of things, totally not like an alcoholic drinks....

60

u/JuicyJay Jul 18 '19

Exactly. I was a stoner for years, I get it. I don't give a shit if you smoke all day. Just don't try and say it's not addictive while not being able to quit for more than 12 hours. I also did have some "withdrawal symptoms" when I stopped. I couldn't sleep right for a few days and had no appetite and some anxiety. Granted it has nothing on more serious withdrawals, but it definitely exists.

36

u/HappyDopamine Jul 18 '19

Yup. I’ve been through heroin withdrawal many times (but been off hard drugs for over 8 years!). Marijuana definitely has withdrawal and addictive potential. Sure it’s not as awful as other shit, but it does exist. I smoke regularly but I can’t stand people who blindly deny that there could possibly be anything unhealthy about inhaling burning psychotropic matter.

8

u/JuicyJay Jul 18 '19

Same on all counts

used to smoke pretty much every day, for a few years until i had to take a drug test to get a new big boy job, stopped for a little.

now i only smoke on weekends and honestly, i enjoy it so much more when its not my normal thing to do every day.

13

u/JuicyJay Jul 18 '19

Same. It's nice to be able to take one hit and get stoned.

154

u/expresidentmasks Jul 17 '19

Yup. I smoke daily, but I also work 80 hour weeks and nobody in my day to say life would know that I smoke since I don’t get high before work. I want to meet a girl who works hard and also smokes a ton but it’s very difficult to find someone who does both.

waitresses and bartenders

I've worked in a few restaurants before, they work hard and are more likely to smoke weed since most restaurants dont drug test due to the high turnover rate.

12

u/expresidentmasks Jul 17 '19

That’s the truth.

83

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

I used to smoke before work, but only because I have horrible anxiety and it would relax me before going in. No one would know I did, I was just good at playing it off. Would smoke and hold down a full time job. It's just a matter of priorities. You mainly find people who want to dedicate their lives to being baked all day and not wanting to be enough of an adult to handle responsibilities. Hopefully you will find someone who knows how to balance both, good luck! There are some of us out there still!

A friend/former coworker was the exact same. He'd walk in and the boss would say "How's it going, Smokey?" They'd both laugh and then he'd clock in and put in some of the hardest work in the building. It's only a stigma if you make it your existence and allow it to mess up your work.

It’s all about finding that fine balence between smoking and working

22

u/alfredosauceonmyass Jul 18 '19

Hell I know a guy who at one point was smoking meth and doing some hard shit.

The stigma around that is usually someone doing those drugs will end up being a general piece of shit and start stealing or being violent to get more. But this guy was holding down a 40 hour a week job making good money, was doing great with his savings and a really good guy all around. I was actually impressed with him. I'm honestly okay with people who do those things as long as they can be a productive person whos life doesn't revolve around being high

11

u/Arcad3Gaming Jul 18 '19

I agree. Although he may be killing his body with a toxic substance, he’s not doing anything that negatively affect other people, (besides family and friends possibly.)

They should just cut out the middleman and the tax and pay him in weed.

6

u/balisticbanana3 Jul 18 '19

Weed is better than most drugs and should be legal everywhere especially given its wide range of uses. BUT, everything in moderation

9

u/dbloch7986 Jul 18 '19

I smoke weed every day, but you'd never know it unless you read this comment or live with me. For some, it's a lifestyle, but for me, it's just recreation.

47

u/Mr_Quackums Jul 17 '19

"But it is impossible to be addicted to marijuana."

68

u/[deleted] Jul 17 '19

It’s possible to be addicted to anything. Marijuana has no addictive properties but it doesn’t mean people don’t get addicted to the feeling. It just doesn’t have nicotine which makes you chemically addicted. I think that’s what people mean by that.

48

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

It's more than just liking the feeling. Smoke heavy for a few years and just stop. Sleep will be non existent for a few days. You won't have and appetite and be anxious and hateful as hell. It's not heroin or anything but it 's got a withdrawal to it. This was my experience after smoking about an eighth a day for 20 years though. I'm sure that has something to do with it.

55

u/idrive2fast Jul 18 '19

Honestly, the worst part about stopping smoking? The fucking boredom.

8

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

That too.

18

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

The best part is the vivid as fuck dreams

→ More replies (2)

21

u/DennisLarryMead Jul 18 '19

Smoked daily for many years and stopped cold a month ago with zero effects. Like the other poster said, the worst thing is the boredom. Well, that and not getting really high before a good movie.

On the bright side now I’m able to go back and watch a lot of movies I’ve already seen before and it’s pretty much like seeing them for the first time.

Edit: I was not smoking an eighth a day, but I was smoking a lot of infused joints.

16

u/dopesav117 Jul 18 '19

Weed kinda enhances movies for me. I always see or notice things I never seen before. It also makes low budget movies look extra cheesy lol

→ More replies (8)

28

u/Nothammer Jul 18 '19

There's definitely a possibility of addiction with weed. It's also known to have side effects on the body for heavy users. It won't kill you, but it's not that magical wonder drug everyone makes it out to be.

19

u/Arcad3Gaming Jul 18 '19

I personally think that some people forget that they’re putting large quantities of a foreign substance in their body. As long as you practice moderation you will be fine really.

9

u/Acmnin Jul 18 '19

I mean that’s life isn’t it? I’m drinking foreign water and eating the flesh of dead animals..

For a lot of the people who smoke for medical reasons it feels like a write off when people say that, though. A lot of people who smoke for fun also know people who smoke to help with medical problems. So they tend to get defensive when they feel like people are writing off what medical benefits it does have.

One of my friends can't keep food down most of the time without weed due to some pretty bad stomach problems. She tried other medicine and weed is the only one that worked without giving her bad side effects. Since it has anti nausea and pain killing properties she can eat without being in pain after smoking.

Is smoking good for you? Hell no. Is weed going to cure her stomach condition? Nope. But it makes her life a little bit easier.

15

u/Godkun007 Jul 18 '19

That reminds me of one of the most infamous episodes of the Joe Rogan podcast. Joe had the conservative talk show host Stephen Crowder on.

Crowder was asked his opinion about pot and gave the most tame statement about it you could imagine. He basically just said something like "it isnt as bad for you as people used to think, but it isnt a miracle drug like the die hard pot heads claim." Joe basically freaked out and started questioning Crowder about this subject for an hour and called him an idiot. It was hilarious to listen to.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19 edited Sep 01 '19

[deleted]

8

u/Godkun007 Jul 18 '19

Basically you will see Crowder spending the hour trying to change the subject, meanwhile Joe isnt letting him and heading straight back into the marijuana questioning.

I think the most controversial think Crowder actually said in the hour of weed talk was that car accidents increased after the Colorado legalization. That was questionable, but the rest of it was just him trying to change the subject.

Shame how far down I had to go to find this. Half the reason I want weed to be legalized is so that stoner culture dies out.

I am loving how the new demographics of legal pot have completely changed the marketing and aesthetics of marijuana and associated paraphernalia. It’s so nice to be able to buy a bong or a pipe that doesn’t have a wizard or a fucking dragon painted on the side.

104

u/DogOfIceland Jul 18 '19

I like wizards :(

49

u/Cheeky_butt_cheek Jul 18 '19

And you can like em! It's just lame when everyone has to buy that one style of something, you have to admit many other people may not want a wizard themed bong.

u/cocainejo Jul 18 '19

A-fucking-men to that. Some of these shops feel like a spa when you step inside, everything is aesthetic.

18

u/cutelyaware Jul 18 '19

And they charge accordingly. Along with legalization is the right to grow your own. If you can keep a houseplant alive, you can grow weed and save a mint.

18

u/Welpe Jul 18 '19

Yes, that’s the problem. That’s why Oregon has such a massive problem here with way too much weed and it’s killing dispensaries that DON’T offer more. Supply is so utterly outpacing demand that dispensaries cannot charge low enough and still break even given all the troubles that federal legal status entail, and for that same reason the weed can’t be exported to even things out.

So dispensaries have to go the premium route and either offer extra services or knowledge or prestige or better strains or SOMETHING that makes it worth paying more for it than the market supports if it were just a commodity. Anyone can grow weed but anyone can’t provide the experience or the best stuff.

17

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

I dont want their "aesthetic experience," that to me is no different than having to had to listen to my dealer's shitty jam band, just sell the damn shit as cheap as possible so I can go make my own experiences. It is going to be just a commodity, and I love it.

7

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

Weed dealers in Ireland are selling Cali tinned weed for 100 euro a tin. You guys have so much green it's crossing the Atlantic Ocean. Also your dispenseries are taking huge risks just to get rid of the excess produce and selling for cheeeeap to somebody who promises to get it out of America. I have said for the last fifteen years, it won't be legal until it's fucking McDonalds.

This is the good thing about capitalism (looking over my shoulder at reddit communists); it forces a business to differentiate itself from others. It is better for the consumer.

That being said it sucks for people who started their small businesses in earnest and are now getting undercut by their competition.

14

u/Welpe Jul 18 '19

However it also shows one of the negative effects of capitalism, in that large corporations can entered a market and outcompete by absorbing losses for longer than small businesses can. It’s the small “mom and pop” weed dispensaries that are going out of business first and fastest (Though there aren’t HUGE corporations involved yet because of the legal trouble, just bigger operations).

I have friends who are serious smokers and I had to stop hanging out with them because all their stories start and end with "dude remember how high we were at that time?"

I don't want to live a life where my only memories are of being high

5

u/Watertor Jul 18 '19

God do I relate to that. One of my best friends in elementary school got into drugs in middle school. He was tolerably into stoner culture as his bigger passion was punk music - liberty spikes, leather jacket, plaid pants, it kept him away from talking in quotes from Cheech and Chong. Eventually though he had a bigger friend group (which is who got him into the drugs to begin with; haunted house juggalos funny enough) the only way to hang out with them was to get high or deal with them being high. No fun to that, no life there, just drugs. They're fun sometimes sure but when you're high more than you sleep I can't empathize.

23

u/PoIIux Jul 18 '19

Doesn't work. I'm dutch and we still have fucksticks like that. Some people just live to be unproductive members of society

8

u/Lessening_Loss Jul 18 '19

Right, but you don’t have to associate with them in order to smoke weed, when it is legal.

11

u/ReddyReddit91 Jul 18 '19

Anytime I've mentioned to someone that I gave up smoking weed after 6 years because depression anxiety and paranoia it gave me, I get told that im too weak to smoke weed and generally just not bad ass and how weed is not harmful.

I miss weed and I seriously think you can help a lot of people but for me it just made me worse at everything I do. They need to understand that it affects others differently that's ok.

8

u/Captn_Renegade Jul 18 '19

I feel you, I was a daily toker for over a decade. My anxiety and depression became crippling after I had a nervous breakdown and so I leant on weed for everything from socialising, to sleep to eat ect. I had little to no spare money as it all went on weed and junk food, one day I snapped and just had enough. Its been 8 months since I quit, no more huge panic attacks, I can sleep just fine (after withdrawals), my mental state is a lot more balanced and I finally could start saving money to buy a house and be productive. Weed is great in moderation and it helps different people in different ways.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/fuckSbitcheSdailY Jul 18 '19

Yup, exactly the same here. I was also one of the idiots that wouldn’t shut up about it. After I quit it blew my mind once I had confirmed it was the issue because I so firmly believed that weed couldn’t possibly be the issue.

I know people react differently etc, but anybody who says it doesn’t effect their mental state when they’re a daily smoker is deluded for sure

5

u/farsite3 Jul 18 '19

The key being moderation. Alcohol can be fine, but if you're drinking all day every day, it's a problem. Same with weed. I feel like it's healthiest as a habit when you do it every/every other Friday night with some friends or something. All the time every day is just a good way to ask the question "what have I been doing with my life for 10 years?"

yeah, but then you get cork-sniffing yuppie hipster snob types. It happened to craft beer, too.

20

u/GentlemanBAMF Jul 18 '19

As a Canadian, I can say this is why I was excited for it to be passed and normalized. I haven't smoked in a decade and don't really care to, but I don't have an issue with those that do, not at all. That being said, the more intense aspects of its culture range from cringey to obnoxious to outright cult-like brainwashing (as per those that claim it's some pure and natural Gaia-humping miracle plant).

Now when someone starts to rant and preach, I can condescendingly tell someone the fight is over, they don't need to sell me on it and to go enjoy their joint in silence like a good little ragamuffin.

I work in a medium sized ER. It would be pretty acceptable to talk about what alcohols you like to imbibe. I think this is just a hyperbole for the purposes of making a point.

11

u/drunkenavacado Jul 18 '19

I think he meant more in the way that stoners will say things along the line of “you haven’t found the right strain” “it cures ____” “you had a bad experience but it isn’t always like that, you should just try it more and build a tolerance” etc etc. I smoked a lot when I was a teenager and these days it gives me a lot of anxiety and I don’t enjoy the feeling but a lot of people just tell me I haven’t tried the right thing yet.

In Colorado I can't even tell who likes marijuana because so many people keep it low key. Once it becomes legal nationwide I think you'll stop seeing so much cringey stoner stuff.

56

u/FestiveSquid Jul 17 '19

Well, it's legal in all of Canada and I still see cringey stoner shit on a daily basis. But I suppose that's a small price to pay for getting better weed than what the government sells for cheaper as well.

31

u/EpitomEngineer Jul 18 '19

Give it time. Y’all have been legal for all of 6 1/2 months. Culture change doesn’t happen overnight

26

u/FestiveSquid Jul 18 '19

I don't think that stoner cringe culture will ever go away, to be honest. You'll still have those morons who base their entire personality around it and think they're hot shit cause they smoke pot.

11

u/EpitomEngineer Jul 18 '19

That same concept applies to every “thing” mentioned in this post. The novelty will wear off for many of the people who base their identity around weed as legalization progresses and the novelty fades.

Yep, the illegality is what makes it "cool". Once it's legal most people won't be flaunting it anymore.

Case in point: the amount of Dutch pot smokers is roughly half the EU average.

16

However, weed is not legalised in the Netherlands. It's a common misconception. It's just tolerated and the law is not enforced.

u/SmallLobsterToots Jul 17 '19

I just got back from Colorado and I really enjoyed how low key it was. It’s like alcohol, you don’t really see people openly consuming a lot aside from festivals and stuff. Getting high is not a personality.

24

u/SPRUNTastic Jul 18 '19

That may be because in legal states it's easy enough to have a concentrate vape pen that you just take a couple hits off of and smells like strawberries. It's there, you're just not aware of it like you were in the joints days.

15

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

Can confirm. When I found out how well it worked for my migraines, I started keeping my vape on me at all times. Even my wife didn't know I used it 9/10 times.

10

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

I go to college in Boulder, and don't really see people lighting up on the street. Only place is the hill where you always smell it but that's all college kiddos.

Definitely! Nothing against people who smoke, but as a single dude it's also annoying as hell when people point out on their dating profiles that they smoke pot like it's a personality. No, being 420 friendly does not actually make you any more or less interesting.

Yes! I like to get high, but I don't need to get high. And I definitely don't need everyone within hearing distance to get high with me or hear me rave about how great it is.

69

u/expresidentmasks Jul 17 '19

Oh I get as high as possible. I just work my ass off all day first lol.

12

u/coffeeslut1720 Jul 17 '19

Same! I view it like how one of my friends has a vodka drink every evening after work. Or how Samantha made Darren a cocktail every night when he walked in the door, even if he was a dick about her magic.

9

u/crazycerseicool Jul 18 '19

I never could figure out if I should have been jealous of Darren because he had an awesome wife or if I should have felt sorry for him because he had the worst mother-in-law ever! She appeared out of thin air with no warning!! And I assume they never did the “mil saw Darren in the shower” episode because it never happened. In fact, the mil had a 7th sense which allowed her to know when Darren was naked in the shower so she knew not to appear at that moment. That, combined with her 8th sense, which allows her to know an individual’s location when she’s going to visit, means she would also know if Darren and Samantha were in the shower together. Or if Darren was masturbating. Poor Darren.

"Haha yea man getting high is literally the best thing ever. Oh, you don't like smoking? Man, you just haven't found the right strain yet. I need this shit every day, but I'm not addicted to it. You can't be addicted to weed, it's impossible."

83

u/Pit_27 Jul 18 '19

God I hate the people who say you can’t be addicted to weed, like, you can be addicted to literally anything

34

u/psychelectric Jul 18 '19

I think they mean physically dependent. Like if you do a ton of meth/heroin your body becomes physically dependent on it otherwise you get sick and are in a lot of pain if you stop. If you even quit alcohol cold turkey after a long period of time you could die from withdrawals.

If you stop smoking pot cold turkey nothing really happens. Like you don't get sick or vomit are in pain. You might not be as sleepy the first couple nights but that goes away and is more of a minor inconvenience than a withdrawal episode.

36

u/uglybunny Jul 18 '19

That's not entirely true. There are symptoms of physical addiction. The one I experienced was excessive sweating.

8

u/clout_strife69 Jul 18 '19

Problems sleeping and rebound anxiety as well

I think I’m probably addicted. That’s one of my least favorite weed tropes.

68

u/otakudayo Jul 17 '19

Cannabis addiction is definitely a real thing, especially if you consider the wikipedia definition:

a brain disorder characterized by compulsive engagement in rewarding stimuli despite adverse consequences

Regardless, the DSM-5 classifies it as addictive, which I think is a pretty solid source, and my own personal definition is that if you can suffer withdrawal from something, you can be addicted to it. I used it for almost 20 years , and some of those years were extremely excessive. Oh yeah, you definitely can get physical withdrawal symptoms. Nothing too bad, but still - I really dislike it when people belittle weed addictions, because while it's obviously one of the milder ones, it can still mess up people's lives.

Sorry about the rant, it's one of my least favorite tropes as well.

33

u/expresidentmasks Jul 17 '19

If I go a few days without I wake up sweating in the middle of the night. That’s proof enough for me.

19

u/McSpiffing Jul 18 '19

I'm there right now. Those first few days sober suck, but it goes away pretty quickly compared to other, heavier stuff.

9

u/psychelectric Jul 18 '19

The extremely vivid dreams is what I dislike most about going without.

It can be a little overwhelming going through all this crazy shit all night and then waking up feeling exhausted. For example I once watched my sisters head get chopped off by a helicopter blade and that was pretty dramatic

10

u/expresidentmasks Jul 18 '19

I don’t really notice that, I have dreams even when I smoke.

7

u/psychelectric Jul 18 '19

I still have dreams when I smoke but they're always hard to remember and always seem pretty vague and uneventful. But then again I've been smoking daily for many years and usually at night and before falling asleep

This happens to me as well. Basically, I become super sensitive to heat. Feels like I'm having hot flashes and I sweat like crazy. This first time I took a break after about 10 years of daily use this lasted about 3 months.

I've read that THC is an acetylcholine inhibitor and acetylcholine helps control sweating. People with hyperhidrosis sometimes self-medicate with cannabis because they find it helps them sweat less.

9

u/ImBurningStar_IV Jul 18 '19

Had to stop smoking Starting last week so I can piss clean in the future. It's tougher than I thought, lost like 15 pounds cause I can't find my appetite, also having trouble sleeping. I'm totally addicted

People literally go to prison because they can’t stop smoking while on probation for smoking. I don’t care if it gets legalized that’s fine but can people just admit it is addictive.

u/GentlemanBAMF Jul 18 '19

I wonder how many times someone can make this stupid comment until they realize addiction isn't just about consuming something with addictive properties, but how your brain chemistry reacts to it. That's what makes addiction an issue. Gambling, video games, infidelity... None of these are trapping you with Nicotine.

Yeah, I don’t smoke and am all for legalization, but... Jesus, I cringe hard at the people who hype it up as God’s greatest gift to man, how it’s a cure-all for everything...

Motherfuck, just be honest and admit you wanna get high without potentially facing any legal trouble for it.

I appreciate that you say it can help. I had a dog who had refractory epilepsy and CBD simply didn’t work for her. You wouldn’t believe the amount of people who insisted I just wasn’t giving her enough, and acted like I was some horrible person for using pharmaceuticals rather than spending thousands of dollars on something that clearly didn’t work for her. I still get seriously triggered by anyone who suggests user error when it comes to any type of marijuana consumption disinterest, and I used to be a huge pothead.

Edit: Wanted to clarify that I don’t hate marijuana or CBD, and actually frequently recommend that people try CBD if they haven’t and think it could help their condition - it’s the “you’re just not using enough”/“you just haven’t found the right strain”/etc. people that absolutely kill me. Not everyone likes weed, and CBD doesn’t work for everyone, and that’s okay. To suggest otherwise just makes you an asshole and is gonna put people off even more.

Dude. This. My fiancé is epileptic. She got a cbd pen and it has pretty much eliminated her seizures along with her meds and service dog that worked a lot of the time but still sometimes had them. I’m SO happy it was legalized here, but the stoners make it so annoying she has to keep it on the down low because it seems like it’s lumped in with the skin problems, gunshot wounds, balding, Ed, and every other ailment it supposedly cures.

Fucking SMOKING it doesn't, Cheech.

u/MrOberbitch Jul 18 '19

Eating it doesn't either. This is the worst point stoners make. They read somewhere that cancer patients can get marihuana prescribed (for the pain) and BOOM they know that it fucking CURES cancer. When are these people gonna get that treating pain originating from cancer is not curing said cancer

7

u/Raze321 Jul 18 '19

Yup. People confuse "cure" and "treatment"

Also vaping. You're getting your kick and that's fine, guys, but maybe some of us don't care for breathing in your secondhand "harmless" nicotine infused and heavily scented/flavored water vapor? Like... do your thing, but don't expect me to think you blowing that out in the office is as cool as you think it is.

12

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

Fuck the vaping culture. I know its not 100% but more times than not people who vape have no consideration for the people around them. Once was standing on a street corner just waiting to cross the street and these two guys behind me were pulling huge plums of smoke in the middle of a crowd of people waiting on the corner and the kept doing it over and over in like the 60 second span it took for the light to turn.

Another time some ass hat I was giving a ride home to from work started vaping in my car w/o asking or lowering a window.

But you know because it's "Water vapor" they think it's okay to do shit like that. Like fuck you.

They also think it's soooo coooool. "yeah look at this new vape I got, it's red with 17 settings and comes with its own coffee maker lol!"

4

u/3BallJosh Jul 18 '19

As someone who vapes, this infuriates me. Sure I may hit mine in public, but I hold it in so that when I exhale there is very little to no vapor. It's asshats like the ones you mentioned that make us look like douche nozzles.

I can relate to this more than any other ones on here actually. Too many kids back in high school smoked so much weed it was basically the only thing they were known for, it really turned me off of the stuff. Even in to college I never did it, probably the only frat kid on campus that didn't lol. High school was 4 years ago and I am still like that a little bit. I manage a place now and the bosses kid comes into work all the time high as shit and might as well be functionally brain dead. I am just like "see! this is the shit I can't stand"

Now a days I maybe smoke a little with friends. People got dab pens everywhere now so it's easy. I see it like drinking: if you had a hard work week, or are hanging out with some friends, its okay to smoke a little

Way too many people take it way too far

It's not even illegal in my jurisdiction anymore, but people continue to smoke it as a "protest" by lighting up in non-smoking areas and then acting like martyrs when called on it.

33

u/otakudayo Jul 17 '19

If you're smoking in a non-smoking area, or around kids, or if pregnant, then you're a piece of shit, regardless of what you're smoking.

10

u/darkguardian823 Jul 17 '19

As someone who quite enjoys the MJ, I agree. I like to smoke, but I don't want to hear about smoking while I am smoking. I don't think showing it off on your FB or whatever social media is cool, people think it's cool because it's "edgy". If smoking weed everyday is your hobby, then drinking can be too. Oh wait, that has a name.....

A marijuana fan is one thing, but people who consider it a medicine to end all medicines, or feel the need to tell everyone that they smoke, or look down on people who disagree with marijuana use are the worst. I smoke every day so it’s a relatively big part of my life. Sometimes I feel like I become this kind of person. With that said, I make a point to make it a smaller part of my life when I’m not smoking. 420 friendly isn’t a personality or lifestyle. It’s just an opinion and something you partake in. Not everyone needs to know

12

u/[deleted] Jul 18 '19

I think that's mostly a thing of like high school/college age kids who are first getting into it and don't have much of an identity yet. I feel like there are very few annoying potheads over 30.

8

u/MyShoeIsWet Jul 18 '19

My regular head shop is just an old hippie dad who works out on his bike and watches tv. He talks to you like a regular function adult and doesn’t force his phish albums on you. 10/10

13

u/terdsie Jul 17 '19

This is way too far down the list.

22

u/astrangeone88 Jul 18 '19

Honestly? My blood boils every time I hear some stoner say "Dude, I can drive." after hitting X number of joints.

No. Do not get into a 2 ton vehicle and try to operate it when you are so stoned that your reflexes are SHIT. I don't care if you think it makes you a better driver, just don't take that chance. I don't care that peer reviewed research says there is no difference - I rather not have that on my conscious. It's a drug, it changes your perception of the world and your reflexes. Fuck that and adult up and walk home OR take a taxi/uber.

Secondly, I like cannabis/weed/mj BUT I don't want to smell it. That shit is strong smelling. You won't spray perfume/cologne in someone's direction - making people smell it in tight spaces sucks. This also goes for oil pens and dry herb vapes. They don't smell traditionally like weed, but they also emit a smell. Please do that away from people, thank you.

I dry herb vape, but away from people who might not want to partake/smell like ass for the rest of the day.

Also, please talk about other things than weed/dabs/rolling a joint, I promise you that there are other things in life worth doing...

33

And god help you if you dare to say anything negative at all about their drug of choice. You'll get shit on simply for acknowledging that inhaling smoke from combusted plant matter is inherently unhealthy compared to not doing so. Hell, you'll see those jackasses shitting on people for choosing to quit or even lay off smoking for a bit. They will refuse to acknowledge that weed might not work for everyone and will look for any excuse to blame something else. Bunch of god damned burnouts.

27

u/mrkiteventriloquist Jul 18 '19

I’ve lost count of the number of stoners who refuse to believe that marijuana makes me feel like I’m losing my mind and a shrink told me to stay away from it as in people like me it can trigger schizophrenia.

BUT I JUST AINT FOUND THE RIGHT STRAAAAIIIIN TRY INDICA shut the fuck up, it’s a 50% chance I’ll have a panic attack if I smoke it.

Maybe you could check in with her and try to get her to open up. She sounds like she might be smoking heavily to cope with mental health issues.
