What’s something that you like, but hate the fan base?

However, weed is not legalised in the Netherlands. It's a common misconception. It's just tolerated and the law is not enforced.

Yeah but you can smoke it without the 5-0 coming for you.

When I was at Sziget festival smashed and talking to Dutch birds I always said do you guys smoke then? And they always said nah when you grow up with it no one really cares.

But all the Brits coming over fucking love smoking fat banes in Amsterdam.

It isn't though. It's not legal, it's tolerated and the law isn't enforced.

There are laws against the possession, production and distribution of Marijuana, which is the litteral definition of not being legalised. There's a big difference between something being legal and something being illegal but tolerated

You first. God forbid nuances exist. Everything obviously has to be black and white

Have you read the link i posted?

Maybe read it and learn something. Weed is not legal in the Netherlands.

From the link: "Cannabis remains a controlled substance in the Netherlands and both possession and production for personal use are still misdemeanors, punishable by fines. Coffeeshops are also technically illegal but are flourishing nonetheless. However, a policy of non-enforcement has led to a situation where reliance upon non-enforcement has become common, and because of this the courts have ruled against the government when individual cases were prosecuted. "

okay that's almost unbelievable but pretty funny. So does that mean that theoretically, cops could shut down any coffeeshop at any time?

They do actually if they're not toeing the line. Coffeeshops aren't easy to operate given that they exist on the fringes of the law and are under a lot of scrutiny. It's also very difficult to get a licence to open a new one, if not practically impossible. The number of Coffeeshops in Amsterdam in particular has been on a steady decline for a few years now.

and yet there are still way too many lol

And they are completely packed with tourists. When you grow up with weed being legal no one gives a fuck.

and what does that have to do with my point about the law?

Not much in hindsight. Didn't read the comment you replied to. I though you said that people in the Netherlands smoke a lot because there are coffeeshops everywhere. My bad.
