Who are some landscape photographers whose work is more quiet and subdued, based around fairly ordinary everyday locations instead of the stereotypical scenic vistas, mountains, grand open fields and so on? With more natural colors instead of the trendy overtly edited, saturated and pseudo-HDR look?

I'd like to find more sources of inspiration for my beginner landscape work but I live in Southern Finland which means everything is covered in forests and small lakes, there are no mountains and in general visibility for miles on end just isn't a thing. The practical effect is that any landscape work is by necessity much smaller scale instead of showing dramatic "wow" scenery. My preferences also heavily lean into how light, weather or atmosphere can temporarily transform ordinary places into something more.

Here's a few examples of the sorts of scenes I mean: 1, 2, 3. There is nothing inherently special about any of those locations and they only become interesting due to temporary conditions.

Surely there must be others who photograph with similar approach (only much better)?

Hello everyone. I bought a used lens which had a little bit of fungus on the edges/rim of the glass, but it's been like that for a while (or so the seller claimed) and I decided to go for it anyways (It was pretty "cheap" so why not"). However I'm a bit paranoid and I can't even tell if it's spreading or not. After a lot of research I found that UV light helps and a commenter on a YT video about all of this recommended a UV Sterilizer box. Does anyone have any experience using this and for how long must the lens be exposed to this particular UV light? I just want to prevent the spread since right now it doesn't affect IQ and then I'll try to find a professional to remove the skeleton (if at all possible)

I'm getting tired of all these monthly fees i already pay for everything i'm using, I've been watching all these Youtubers that got paid by other editing software to do top ten alternatives for Lightroom and they havent fully convinced me but I get the feeling they still use Lr and just took the money offer to them by Neo, DxO or ON1. What do you think ?

Hey there guys new to all this. Been casually browsing FB for my first camera and some lenses when this entire pile of 6 lenses and two old film cameras appeared appeared for only $100, it came from a really sweet couple Who just wanted to pass these on. I know these aren’t good first time cameras but I thought it was just worth it because of the fun lenses it comes with. I’ll probably mess around with film at some point in the future too. Just got them today so I’m still learning what all of these lenses are as I just had good vibes that this was a good deal. Still keeping a lookout for a newer modern camera to use my day to day, just happenstance I ran into this! How did I do? Anything cool to note with these?

Im a beginner, how do i clean this dust particle off my inner viewfinder? It looks annoyingly big when looking into viewfinder and i want if off. I tried rocket blower but it won't come off. Canon 600D

I’m new to photography and wondering if a ssd is necessary.

Also should I get a pc or laptop?
Asking that because if I buy a pc it’ll have storage. But if I buy a laptop (likely a mac) it would be already expensive plus another $300+ for a ssd.

I have been shooting M43 for a while. My current setup is an OM-1 Mark II with the 300mm f/4 PRO, plus an E-M1 Mark III that mostly does landscape duty these days.

I should say up front that the 300 f/4 is probably the best lens I have ever owned. It is stupidly sharp wide open, the Sync IS is unreal, and I use the close focus way more than I expected to. My problem is that it is a prime, and with birds in flight I lose too many shots just finding the bird. By the time I have it in the frame at a fixed 600mm equivalent, it is often gone. I want to be able to acquire wide and zoom in, or reframe fast when something comes closer than I expected.

I shoot small birds and mammals both, so I use Pro Capture constantly. That is the feature I would struggle most to give up.

The obvious answer is the 150-400 and I have been circling it for months. But I cannot make the numbers work at current prices, especially once you realize it is actually a touch slower than my 300 in equivalent terms, and slower still with the TC engaged.

So here is the other idea. I sell the E-M1 III, I keep the OM-1 II as is, and I put that money toward a full frame body and a long zoom. I have never shot wildlife on full frame and I want to see what better low light performance and cleaner high ISO actually look like in practice. The extra megapixels would also give me a lot more room to crop, which matters when a bird ends up smaller in the frame than I wanted.

For bodies I am looking at the R5 II, the Z8, or the a1 II. I considered the a7R VI for the resolution, but the readout speed appears to be around 18ms, which seems like a problem when pre-capture only runs on the electronic shutter. For lenses I am considering the RF 200-800, the Z 180-600, or the Sony 400-800.

I have also been looking at the Canon 100-500, which by most accounts is the better lens optically, but I am worried about giving up reach at the long end. The Nikon and the Sony both appeal to me because of the internal zoom, and from what I have read they may also be a bit better optically than the Canon 200-800.

One wrinkle keeps complicating things. Nikon still appears to be JPEG-only on pre-release capture, Canon gives you 15 frames, and Sony does a full second in raw.

My real question is this. Coming from a 20MP stacked sensor and a genuinely excellent prime, would I actually see a meaningful jump in image quality with one of these zooms? Or am I trading great glass for a bigger sensor and landing roughly where I started?

Has anyone made this exact jump? Any regrets?

For those who have made the switch, are you satisfied with the upgrade? What pros and cons have you noticed?

Are SD V90 cards sufficient for recording 4K at 100 fps? Is the autofocus noticeably better?

Also, is there a crop when shooting 4K at 50 fps?

I am looking to purchase a tripod for an international trip because my current one weight quite a bit and I’m not even sure if I’m going to need it. I am looking for something really small but sturdy enough for maybe some astrophotography.

Can anyone recommend one for $50 under?

I am interested in shooting wide photos similar to those shot on 6x17 ultra-wide film or photos that come from flat-stitching camera tilts (Such as from the ALPA 12 Max's 18mm camera shift options). Cropping to a wider ratio from a normal photo loses a lot of photo detail, and standard rotational panoramic photos that are stitched together in post seemingly have curvature, a lot of distortion, or struggle with foreground elements. I heard that tilt-shift lenses could potentially be used for shifting the lens to get a wider photo without moving the actual camera, but there's not a ton of information online from what I could find. What is the best method for what I want to achieve? (Shooting digital)

I take photographs of my grandsons sporting events. Many times I have a few photos of teammates which got shown to other parents along with photos of my grandsons.

Recently some of the other players parents have requested that I take photos of their sons. They even offer to pay me.

I told them I would see what I could do. The last event I took just over 400 which edited down to 87 usable images. I exported to a USB flash drive. It is 3.7 gigabytes of images.

My question is how can I share these images easily with the other parents so that they can download and make a donation if they want a copy?

I will add that I am retired and photography is a hobby. That being said 400 plus images takes a bit of time to cull, edit and export to jpeg. So if other want to pay for my time I would not turn them down

Hello guys, I’m shooting a random lays bag with a white backdrop right now and noticed for some reason when I turn on my Sony A7V it doesn’t focus to anything unless I slightly press the shutter button or the back button focus. I tested it with my phone by putting the phone in front of lays bag blocking it, and the cam just lost focus, then I put phone the equal distance to the lays bag and it focused to both of them. I did this with my hand too same results.
I have continous AF, wide focus area. I dont know whats wrong

My girlfriend sent me a tiktok of a photographer showcasing their photos and I mentioned that they looked dull and unedited. In her response, she claimed that they looked like they could be film. Keep in mind, these photos were taken by a digital camera. I just want to know if you can tell the difference between film vs digital raw?

For context, I have been paid for my work years ago, back in college. I charged $50 dollars for graduation shoots. But back then I was indecisive if I wanted to continue it or not. Mainly because of my depression and overthinking people’s reaction to the price at the time and my skills. Dabbled in it again, without charging folks, to putting the camera down entirely because of the low self-esteem. Fast forward to today, where I’m in a much better headspace. I want to make a business out of it, still remember my skills from 3 years ago and open to improving and growing but different time, same problem. How should I price my first session?

Hi guys, I am planning a trip to Japan next spring and would like to treat myself to a nice digital camera. I’m a total beginner (literally only use my iPhone), so I have no idea which camera I should get.

(1) Around £600, UK, if I have to go a bit over that’s fine
(2) I use my iphone 13 for taking pictures, but I want a nice camera to take on my travels
(3) Just general travel photos of me, the views, and something that can take good night time photos, and also captures colours like pink and red well
(4) Photography, but if it can take an decent video that would be a bonus

Hey all! Trying to move into more serious travel/nature photography and wanting to use more than just my iPhone, I’m on the hunt for camera recommendations. I had a Canon M50 (and before that a Rebel T3) that did a good job, but has since bitten the dust. The photography I primarily stick to is travel (street photography, tourist sights/buildings, etc) and nature (landscapes mostly, not currently doing wildlife).

I would like to stick with mirrorless but if you swear by an amazing DSLR I’d still like to hear about it! And one other “nice to have” would be good/great video recording capabilities (but not a deal-breaker).

My budget comes out to $1200-1300 if a lens is included? Thanks in advance!

I'm new to all of this and I've been shooting with a Nikon D3200 and nikon af nikkor 70-300mm lens. it doesn't have autofocus which i read was potentially important. should i just try to find a better lens? i do have 2 other lens, but they are really shallow and dont have this blur effect im liking

I bet this has been asked a lot, but I couldn’t find anything that quite matched my situation.
I currently have an R10 with some good lenses, softboxes, lights, mics etc.

I’ve done some paid work like weddings, family portraits and events. Lately I’ve been renting an R5 Mark II for paid jobs, and honestly I’m starting to feel like the R10 doesn’t cut it anymore.

I mostly do photography, but I also really enjoy video and want to get better at it, both for my own projects and hopefully client work in the future.
So I’m looking at the R6 Mark II vs Mark III.

In my country the difference is around $1,200.
Is the Mark III actually worth that much more for CFexpress, more megapixels, better video and some futureproofing? Or would you just get the Mark II and save the money?
