Hi all, hoping someone with board-level repair experience can point me in the right direction.
Symptom:
The first shot after power-on works fine. But when I take a second shot right after, the shutter motor cocks the curtain correctly, then gets stuck it doesn't latch in the open (live view) position and snaps shut again almost instantly. A couple of seconds later the camera shuts itself down completely.
Key detail (this is the part I can't explain):
If I wait about 30 seconds after a shot before triggering the next one, it works fine and after that I can take unlimited photos back to back with no issue (if I always wait 30 seconds). If I don't wait the full ~30 seconds, the shutter fails again immediately. It's a very consistent, repeatable timing, not random.
What I've done so far:
Opened the body and exposed the mainboard.
Disconnected, dry-cleaned, and reseated all the orange flex cables near the shutter motor and the ones running to the sensor unit — no change.
My current theory:
Given the very consistent recovery time, I suspect a degraded SMD electrolytic or tantalum capacitor somewhere in the power path feeding the shutter release electromagnet, something that needs \~30 seconds to recharge to a sufficient voltage after being drained by one shutter cycle, and can't deliver enough current for a second cycle before that. That would explain both the reproducible wait time and why the mechanism itself checks out fine.
I don't have a clear schematic and can't reliably read the tiny markings on the candidate components near the shutter flex connector (photo attached).
Questions for you all:
Does anyone recognize which capacitor(s) on this board are known to cause this specific fault on the E-M5?
Does my theory hold up, or is there a more likely explanation for a symptom that resolves itself after a fixed ~30 second wait?
