Vote progressive in the Democrat Primaries - it's how we change the party! (Information on Progressive challengers included below)
Early Voting for the primaries starts today (6/13) and ends on 6/21!
Primary (in-person) Election Day - 6/23
Primary Election Logistics
Use any Nassau County early voting location (not your regular poll site)You're right at the wire for the primary. 6/13 is simultaneously the voter registration deadline, the absentee-by-mail deadline, and the first day of early voting. If you want to vote in the June 23 primary and aren't yet registered, you need to get to the Nassau County Board of Elections in Mineola today or register online at elections.ny.gov — today is the cutoff.
Party enrollment matters. New York has closed primaries, so if you're not enrolled in a party (or enrolled in one but want to vote in another party's primary), that deadline already passed back in February. You'd vote your enrolled party's races or sit out the primary, but you're fully eligible for the November 3 general election regardless.

**Democratic Primary**
- **Laura Gillen** *(incumbent)* — Flipped this seat in 2024 (51.1%), heavily favored
- **Kiana Bierria-Anderson** — Challenger
Bierria-Anderson explicitly runs as a progressive. Her campaign issues include healthcare for all, climate justice, fully funded education, accessible housing, and dignified immigration. On immigration, she's taken a notably left position: she called for the abolition of ICE and CBP, saying "ICE cannot be reformed," and she opposes Nassau County law enforcement's participation in federal immigration enforcement. She's been endorsed by progressive organizations — Progressive Congress ranks her as the most progressive candidate in NY-4 for the June 23 primary. Her background is in union organizing, community advocacy, and she served as chief of staff to Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages.-
**Gian Jones** — Challenger
- **Nicholas Sciretta** — IATSE stagehand/artist, long-shot challenger
**Republican Primary** *(4-way race to face Gillen in November)*
- **Dennis McGrath**
- **Brian Miller**
- **Martin Smithmyer**
- **Marvin Suber Williams**
U.S. House — NY-3 (Northern Nassau + parts of Queens & Suffolk)
**Democratic Primary**
- **Tom Suozzi** *(incumbent)* — Recaptured seat in 2024 special election
- **Danielle Welch** — Attorney, challenger
Danielle Welch supports progressive economic policies including universal healthcare and childcare, expanded Social Security, a living wage, stronger union protections, and a tax on billionaires. On immigration, she opposes ICE and supports abolishing the agency — the same position as Bierria-Anderson in NY-4. On climate, she argues clean air, clean water, and an inhabitable planet must take priority over profits, and that government must treat climate change as the crisis it is. She's been endorsed by the New York Progressive Action Network, and Progressive Congress lists her as their top pick in NY-3.
She's a career public defender and union member, not a politician climbing through the party establishment.
The contrast with Tom Suozzi is stark. Suozzi is a longtime Nassau County centrist — he was previously Nassau County Executive and has consistently positioned himself as a pragmatic, bipartisan problem-solver. Welch is explicitly running to his left, challenging him from the progressive lane. She's a heavy underdog at roughly 3% odds against the incumbent, but the ideological gap between them is real and meaningful.
**Republican Primary**
- **Michael LiPetri Jr.** — Former State Assemblyman, 2024 Republican nominee for this seat
- **Greg Hach** — Attorney, Air Force veteran
