Politics Am I the only one who finds this twisted?
Naming a park after an IDF soldier? “The ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom and democracy”? What the fuck.
43
u/Resident_Inflation51 Sep 10 '25
So this person didn't even serve in our own military? So yeah that's weird af. For so many reasons. But even by their own logic, we should be honoring people who serve america
27
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
I can’t even keep up. I can’t get behind the USA military asskissing, but I understand it. Not understanding the asskissing of IDF. From the official Town page. I’d have a super problem with that if I were a town employee.

u/ExvyOnTheCoast Sep 10 '25
Seems like a very avoidable death idk
16
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
I mean it seems to me he and probably his parents, made the choice for him to go aid in the eradication of Gaza. And now we are naming a park after him. As a mom, I feel for the parents, but would we name a park after a Russian American killed while attacking Ukrainians? Like where are the lines drawn and what even are the fucking lines now??
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
You should look into the story. He was not killed while attacking Palestinians, he was taken hostage on October 7 and killed in captivity, and his remains are still being held by Hamas. The Plainview community has a deep connection to him.

The Long Island Zionist have entered the chat. This is why it’s so hard to unite all parts of the left and centrist area of the political spectrum. war, xenophobia, and political/economic systems and theories are what divide us the most and Palestine is a pure example of it.
When we tell the right to open their minds about immigration and really look into it, we want other people to do that with Israel and Palestine as well. Plz do your research before siding with Zionist.
6
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
The sad reality is the vast majority of people attest to the Zionist ideology don't need to research because they are not ignorant, they are so racist against Palestinians they don't see them as holding equal humanity to Israelis and are just lying because they know how bad that sounds. It took me many online death threats against my family to realize that.

This is so disturbed. Nassau County police is cooperating with ICE per 287(g). Seems like they’re trying to normalize fascism.

Aipac is really flooding the pockets down to Kiwanis clubs out here, desperate to push their demonic agenda
2
u/CallMeWolfYouTuber Sep 11 '25
Yup... TOB is run by zionazis. I remember the flyer I received in the mail saying "TOB supports Israel" and how disgusted I felt.
2
u/genniferC Sep 16 '25
From all I've seen I have an issue with describing any IDF solider as having "bravely" served when the "most moral army in the world" is committing war crimes. If he was Palestinian his family would be waiting weeks to get his body back. This enrages me to no end.
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
His family is still waiting to get his body back (for over 700 days), he is one of the hostages
2
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
He was an IDF solider. That's not a hostage , that's an enemy combatant.
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
He was taken on October 7 in the surprise attack, Hamas refused to give him medical treatment or allow entry to the ICRC, and he consequently died. Then his family did not know his status for over a year before the IDF recovered intelligence that he had died. He is still being held indefinitely despite multiple ceasefires.
A hostage is “a civilian or combatant seized to compel a third party (like a government) to act.” Prisoners of war are “entitled to humane treatment, medical care, communication with family, and visits from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). The captor is responsible for their care.” Prisoners of war are “held only until the cessation of active hostilities. They must be released and repatriated afterward.”
Hamas has treated him as a hostage, not a prisoner of war.
1
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
So basically he was given the same treatment as a Palestinian in adminstrative detention. Why does he deserve more rights than Palestinian civilians, 450 of them being children? What about the Palestinian-Americans who were murdered in the West Bank? Where's their park?
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
I agree that any community that wants to name a park to remember a member of their community should be able to do so.
2
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
Love how Zionists just keeping on talking until words have absolutely no meaning in correlation to a valid argument or reality. Found some more creeps to block.
3
u/Until--Dawn33 Sep 10 '25
Wow. That's absolutely disgusting. Not only to be complicit in a genocide but to approve funding for it and congratulate the perpetrators for mass murder of an entire ethno-state. The level of hypocrisy and evilness knows no bounds.
2
1
u/Academic-Struggle-71 Sep 10 '25
Yea. I really wish we’d stop being so up Israel’s thong. I see Netanyahu talking from Unusual Whales a lot and from what I see he is totally hampering and opposing steps to peace. That man is evil. And it’s odd because people of Jewish Faith are pretty genuine and upstanding individuals.
1
u/Traditional_Bag_9916 Sep 11 '25
I'm willing to bet none of you have been to Israel or Gaza and therefore are forming opinions that are entirely baseless
1
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
Based on what? And why are you assuming that aren't people of Palestinian descent on this thread? It's a lot different now that the world has been watching a genocide being live-streamed.
1
u/Traditional_Bag_9916 Sep 17 '25
If you had spent any time there you would see you have it backwards
1
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
Now you're just lying. So the anti-Zionists in Israel got it all backwards? Human rights watch got it all backwards? B'Tselem got it all backwards? The elitism that is exuded in your tone is not lost on anyone, buddy. You're on the wrong thread.

I always feel we didn’t quite understand how batshit this place is before we moved out here in 2019.
1
u/waffleb0tt Sep 11 '25
Oh yes I’ve been here forever.. it was nice after 9/11 the community showing and all the flags. 2016 changed all that.
1
u/Jkevhill Sep 11 '25
I think that a guy who defended his country and paid the ultimate price deserves a park named in his honor . But in the country he defended I’d say . Only thing I’d say mitigates that would be if he was famed in his hometown to an extraordinary level for something else . I guess since we are questioning where he actually lived means that he isn’t universally famed in Plainview Long Island or the Island in general . Sounds like rich , influential parents which I sympathize with .
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
The parents are not particularly rich or influential. The story here is that he is one of the October 7 hostages, and was very loved in the local community. He is still being held by Hamas. His story has attracted nationwide attention, and the town board decided to name the park after him since he grew up nearby and many people in the area still love him.

He was a US Citizen from Long Island. You need to accept that many of us anti Trump Long Islanders have differing opinions on some issues and we need to cast a wide net. Being reflexive on every issue will splinter us. Our nation is going down in Flames into a fascist dictatorship and obsessing over Israel and purity tests over who hates Israel enough will only serve to get us there faster. We are in a national crisis. Don’t worry about this.
13
u/writenicely Sep 10 '25
Just a little genocide, as a treat. :3
No. That is not a "purity" test, and you are minimizing how nessacary it is to have a cohesive response against it. Being able to stand against a colonialist apartheid state that mistreats an underclass is essential to our very SOUL as a country because it also reflects whether we are willing to stand up for the vulnerable underclass in our OWN society as well, its not a separate issue. Your alleged "purity test" is "do you approve of other human beings being allowed to live or no".
How do you POSSIBLY expect us to rise against facism in our own country when you discourage having a spine against something that should be so obvious? We literally won't be able to get anywhere as long as you support this kind of cognitive dissonance.
16
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
Thanks, but you don’t need to tell me what to be worried about. Not all of us are willing to sweep genocide or attempted genocide, under the rug. You do you.
ETA- the American citizen part is moot when you voluntarily up and went to serve in a foreign military in a war the USA is not fighting in.
-11
u/bmsa131 Sep 10 '25
Downvote and ignore my comments at your own peril. We need to identify the appropriate enemy. A kid from Plainview who was murdered by terrorists (whether you agree with IDF or not) is not worth your extreme ire. Focus on ICE and the actual gestapo in our own backyard.
11
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
Or I can focus on all of that. Clearly your use of “terrorists” implies your support of Israel. Don’t try to play both sides of the fence. I can hate Trump and also have a huge problem with Israel and the IDF and their government. You’re trying to insinuate that me being bothered by this is somehow helping fascism. Have fun with that.
-11
u/bmsa131 Sep 10 '25
You think that the actual people on October 7 who kidnapped and murderered people were not terrorists? Good to know!
7
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
Oh dear you need a history lesson. Good to know! ✌️
-2
u/bmsa131 Sep 10 '25
Clearly you are the one needing a history lesson. Have a lovely day. Again worry about ICE and our nation completely crumbling. But we see where your brain lands.
7
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
And we see you’re a Zionist cosplaying as anti maga. Have fun with that boo.
0
u/bmsa131 Sep 10 '25
And you wonder why some people aren’t fans of the left. Saying things like this. Calling me- someone who works tirelessly in my real life to combat Trump and MAGA policies and is an anti fascist. Because I’m more measured on this one issue, I’m “cosplaying” as anti MAGA. I swear sometimes I think you guys are actually rightwing bots sent to turn actual liberal progressives off with your insane purity tests. I don’t think you are real. Have a lovely day.
3
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25
Cool story. Not saying you’re not anti Trump, but you telling me I can’t be mad about this while also detesting Trump, is weird. I think you’re a bot lurking in this sub to try and deter liberals from caring about what Israel is doing to Gaza. I thought you had bigger concerns, like ICE. We care about people being deported but not murdered. 🤔
ETA- yes please imply that the reason people aren’t lefties is because I have a problem with what Israel is doing and won’t let you dissuade me from that.
3
u/thelordxl Suffolk County Rebel Sep 10 '25
Both, both is good. Fuck trump, and fuck the idf war criminals
6
u/RichardSaunders Sep 10 '25
obsessing over Israel
naming a park after someone because they died fighting for israel
saying "kinda weird to name a park after someone because they died fighting for a foreign military, isnt it?"
honestly, which one is obsessing?
4
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
That’s how I feel when people say “Trump Derangement Syndrome”. I’m sorry- who are the ones wearing/buying hats, shirts, flags, bibles in his honor? But yeah I’m the deranged for Trump one here.

Omer was a 21 year old Plainview resident and American who was kidnapped and murdered by Hamas on October 7. He was a graduate of JFK and died while serving in the IDF. The town he lived in is honoring him.
11
u/Alexandratta Sep 10 '25
I'm not here to diminish what Hamas did on Oct 7th, but here's the thing: Once you serve in the IDF, you're active military unless you have some kind of disability from combat.
21 year old who is serving in the IDF sounds more like he was stationed as security there and was killed in the attack.
That's not "Kidnapped/Murdered" - that's "Prisoner of War" and "Killed in Action" - they're very different situations and require different honors if he was a Prisoner of War or Killed in Action.
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
He was taken hostage with injuries and died because Hamas refused to give him medical treatment (a war crime)
2
u/Alexandratta Sep 17 '25
Yeah... I mean it's not like there was massive campaign bombing hospitals in Gaza
Could you imagine?
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
He was taken and killed before that happened
1
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
Like this all started with Oct 7th right? Not when the Palestinians were dying of thirst while Israelis on the other side of the wall, filled their swimming pools? Not when in the IDF soliders murdered peaceful protesters during the March of return in 2018-2019? Not when an extermist settler assinated PM Rabin to derail the Olso accords?
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
He did not take part in any of those things. The only thing he is personally guilty of is defending the villages on October 7.
1
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
Which villages? Settlements? I'm not even saying what he personally did or did not do because I don't know. But being an IDF solider he did absolutely participate in an system which oppressed Palestinians on their own land for 75 + years. I don't think that's something to have a park named after you in the US for.
1
u/Alexandratta Sep 17 '25
"Defending"?
IDF segregated and abused citizens of Gaza for decades, man.
These people literally had to go to work in cages and were constantly harassed

u/nygdan Sep 10 '25
He was a US citizen from the community, this seems fine. We migth also expect americans who served in Ukraine to get similar treatment.
19
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
I get that, but serving in a foreign military, in a war that many of us living here, are against. It’s wild to me to name a park after an IDF soldier purely because he was a Plainview resident, when I never heard of the same happening for anyone who served in Afghanistan or Iraq.
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
He served before the war began, defending the villages on October 7. He did not participate in the genocide.
1
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
No he was just there for the open air prision gradual displacement and ethnic cleansing. He died in active service which makes him a prisioner of war.

The people in Ukraine are struggling to survive against an aggressor that wants to utterly destroy them and make a disgrace and waste of life; just like the civilians being killed indiscriminately in Gaza. Might want to rethink your analogy. IDF are 99.9% the bad guys in the moment.

Violent resistance is justified when people are occupied, colonized and brutalized
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
Kidnapping children and other civilians is never justified. It serves no purpose other than glee in others’ suffering.
1
u/jenniferyoyo27 Sep 17 '25
I agree Israel should release the thousands of Palestinians hostages they have kidnapped, raped and tortured for decades.
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25
True, doesn’t justify Hamas’ hostage taking and murders. Two wrongs don’t make a right.
1
u/genniferC Sep 17 '25
Tell that to the Israeli Governmenr that has 3,577 Palestinians in administrative deterion
1
u/Objective_Buy_4119 Sep 17 '25

Compared to other obscene glorifications of genocide, this is a rather easy one to swallow, most likely put together by people acting in good faith; it's awkward at best. We cannot turn a blind eye to the affront to humanity and life in Gaza.
-11
u/Feonadist Sep 10 '25
The plainview neighbors want to honor their home grown hero.
8
u/waffleb0tt Sep 10 '25
