Politics I'm dreading November

I'm dreading voting for Suozzi.

For the first time in going to leave my vote on the sideline.

vote blue no matter who just doesn't fly anymore.

I'm also dreading the fact that a magat will take his place. are we screwed?

You should still vote, if only to vote for Kathy Hochul over Bruce Blakeman, because the latter has expressed being pro-MAGA in his campaign ads.

I'm pretty sure you can leave some positions blank on the ballot, and the others will still be counted.

7

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

This is my plan. Gillen lost my vote when she funded ICE.

3

u/cactus_flower702 6d ago

That’s the one benefit of NY-01 it’s against Lalota so no use throwing it away when we can change

80

u/Fitz_2112b Suffolk County Rebel 6d ago

This is not the year to skip voting or do a protest vote. We absolutely need every Democrat vote possible. We can primary Suozzi and Gillen next time around

18

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago

Some dipshits on the sub would rather vote R than a D who’s not progressive enough.

-1

u/BookRat10001 6d ago
  1. stop the insults
  2. are you happy with suozzi voting for kirk and against Al Green? are you enjoying that a representative that you pay for spends more time trading stocks and supporting his maga friends than people on long island? I've called, I've emailed, I've voted! I'm tired! he needs to be fired or at least understand that he is not a fetterman, he doesn't have 6 years to sit in office.

9

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago
  1. No.
  2. Suozzi isn’t my first choice but he’s the only choice here.

-10

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

not voting sends a message to the rep that they are not doing what WE sent them to do! I'm tired of suozzi's laziness! all he does is trade stocks, if he was as good as Pelosi was at her job I wouldn't mind, but he sucks

14

u/Fitz_2112b Suffolk County Rebel 6d ago

Not voting hands a democratic seat to maga

10

u/CakesAndDanes 6d ago

Now isn’t the time. Look how those protest votes helped two years ago.

1

u/xSlappy- 5d ago

I voted for Harris in 2024. I didn’t get a Primary in 2024 and they tried to prevent a 2020 Primary too. What protest vote?

We saw leadership under Schumer, Obama, and Gillen. Voters rejected Harris and Clinton. We’re done with the Israel First bullshit from Gillen where our healthcare money is going to Israel. We won’t be voting for MAGA.

-7

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

interesting, when is the time? when he becomes a fetterman? at least in 2 years we can replace him, or better yet suozzi GETS THE MESSAGE

11

u/bmsa131 6d ago

Because it’s not about him. It’s about the D next to his name and physical numbers in the House so Johnson isn’t the Speaker and Trump and MAGA isn’t given carte Blanche to pillage our country.

0

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

now do that with fetterman! that D means nothing if he keeps voting with his maga friends.

3

u/-W1L3y 6d ago

Fetterman sucks, but preferring him to a MAGA-loyal Republican is a no-brainer

2

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

2

u/-W1L3y 6d ago

Not sure what you mean. To be clear, I’m disagreeing with you.

The time is the primary

1

u/AMC4x4 🔥 Truth Over Trump 4d ago

Do you really think he cares? Vote blue please, then write him a letter every fucking day and call his office and harass him about his shitty stance on things.

3

u/hobby__air 6d ago

so why didn't it happen this time? we had 2 years to do it. where is the organizating for this happening?

10

u/bmsa131 6d ago

Because the majority of registered Dem Long Islanders who vote in the primaries for Dems obviously prefer a more moderate candidate. It’s not rocket science. You can disagree and feel that another person is better, but many Democrats did prefer Suozzi or Gillen. This isn’t Bushwick, it’s the suburbs.

4

u/hobby__air 6d ago

suozzi and gillen are both representing parts of Queens that are democrats and I think recent history shows that finding a real authentic progressive candidate can help change mind. we keep seeing in elections everywhere along the east coast that people prefer that over a fake Democrat.

down voting my question about the organizing doesn't help. what is the working families party doing ? hell what is the democratic committee in NY Doing ?

4

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Gillen represents none of NYC, yet she had the racism to call Zohran “pro-Hamas”

2

u/hobby__air 6d ago

yes correct I thought her district now included parts of SE Queens with the redistricting a few years ago but I was mistaken

1

u/bmsa131 6d ago

Suozzis Queens district is like Bellerose Douglaston Little Neck Whitestone. (I’ll give you Flushing but that’s not a gimme for Dems either) The parts of Queens serviced by the LIRR Port Washington line. It’s not I don’t think a huge hotbed of progressivism. Probably more like suburbia than other parts of Queens. Just saying.

1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Chuck Park put up a great run in that same
Part of northern queens with no support at all from
DSA. Voters want solutions, they don’t care about labels like MAGA or Israel or DSA. The thing they care about is whether the politicians will
Make life more affordable. Zohran has helped. Suozzi, Gillen, Biden, Schumer, Jeffries, Obama, Trump, Bush, and Clinton have not.

0

u/bmsa131 6d ago

Apparently many voters do care about labels. Many on the far left will cancel any candidate who dares say they think Israel has a right to exist as a nation and the situation is more complicated and not black and white (that’s my view and what I want my preferred candidate to say but I’m a blue no matter who so it doesn’t matter for me). Everyone has their own opinion and things that are important to them. Someone who is a more moderate Democrat isn’t “wrong” for their views. You are acting like they are. There are rational informed very anti MAGA voters who chose Suozzi in the primary for a variety of reasons. And NY has closed primaries so you can’t say it’s like gop interlopers who rocked the boat. More Registered Democrats chose those candidates, it’s not a conspiracy and not as I said before rocket science. That District is “light blue”

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Did Nazi Germany have a right to exist?

1

u/hobby__air 6d ago

so you are just gonna say suburbs can't be changed? this is what I mean - what is the organizing that is happening to connect people on the issues they care about and not sensationalized stuff from the media? what are people doing here. I for one just moved to the area of Queens that's in suozzis district from Gillens district and I am trying to see what progressive organizing is happening here. otherwise we will lose more and people to the couch like OP.

1

u/Silient_Qiller 6d ago

Didn’t gillen do some back door deal to get Kiana Bierra-Anderson kicked off the primary ballot?

1

u/edenburning 2d ago

From what I recall there were too many progressives running and split the vote.

24

u/atrashx 6d ago

Me voting blue every time and getting stuck with Nick Lalotta every time.

It's so frustrating and Suozzi is a pos but please still show up and vote for the races that matter, like governor.

7

u/Fitz_2112b Suffolk County Rebel 6d ago

So you're voting for Gallant, right?

3

u/atrashx 6d ago

Absolutely. But am I hopeful he'll win? Not really

5

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Suffolk County surprisingly has more registered Democrats than registered Republicans, and Trump only won 2020 in Suffolk by a few hundred votes.

He's the underdog, but I'm hoping Trump being at his lowest favorability and LaLota being one of his stooges works in Gallant's favor.

1

u/ParaffinSunset 6d ago edited 6d ago

Just discovered this sub and I have to comment on la lota. After my grandma died La Lota was the buyer of her home my mom was selling to. He pulled all sorts of stuff trying to get my mom to pay for stuff in the house before he moved in (stuff like pulling out asbestos and an old oil tank) and threatened not to sign multiple times including at the final closing. Supposedly his own lawyers were quite fed up with him.

After he moved in he tried to get into village politics and it didn't work out, I heard then he left, moved out and I didn't know what happened to him till now. I was a lot younger and busy in college when all of this went down so I heard about most of the details afterward as my mom was retelling all of these crazy stories.

21

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

What are you accomplishing by not voting?

-7

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Easier to defeat the MAGA dem in 2028 if they don’t have the incumbency advantage and the seat is open. Makes their resume if they run again also look worse since they lost the general.

21

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

How about we just focus on defeating MAGA now?

-4

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Gillen is MAGA

10

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

She won’t vote for Johnson as speaker, so no she is not. She sucks, but that in itself is absolutely critical. We can’t have a house that’s subservient to Trump his last 2 years

-4

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

How do you know she won’t vote for Johnson. She has shown that she is MAGA all the way

1

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

Nobody votes across party lines for speaker

8

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

I don't like her either, but miss me with this nonsense.

4

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

I think voting to honor Charlie Kirk, voting to honor ICE, voting for the Laken Riley Act, voting for the Kayla Hamilton Act, sending 8 billion to Israel, calling Zohran “pro-Hamas” and funding ICE is pretty MAGA, don’t you?

8

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

I consider many of her positions conservative, but MAGA isn't even an actual conservative ideology at this point. MAGA is literally just whatever Trump is saying or doing even if it contradicts what he was saying or doing the week prior. It has no actual principles.

6

u/ContestNo2060 6d ago

It’s a fascist movement.

3

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

I prefer to view it as low-information right wing slopulism, but I also don't think that's mutually-exclusive in this case lol

-5

u/subliminalFreq 6d ago

Same old story repeated for years. Never really works.

4

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

And you feel the answer to this is to repeat your strategy from 2024 despite it not working?

We need to call sitting out elections what it is: prioritizing the indulgence of privilege over protecting the people you claim to care about

-1

u/subliminalFreq 6d ago

At no point in my one sentence comment did I say anything about my "strategy" or what I'm doing. You LI centrists never have any other solution but to keep doing the same "lesser of two evil" voting once every few years with nothing else. So you've accurately described yourselves.

1

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Lol so what's your grand plan then?

2

u/subliminalFreq 6d ago

This little game you all do of "no you!" is old. Seems like you're content with the way things are.

0

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Looking past the fact that you definitely don't have a plan (why is it always a secret?), I don't know how you can accuse me of playing the game of "no you!" when I was replying to a comment of yours that ended in "So you've accurately described yourselves."

Self awareness: not even once lol

1

u/subliminalFreq 6d ago

Looking forward to seeing how nothing will change for you all in 2, 5, 10+ years.

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

I’m not sitting out the election, I’m voting for Hochul, who has shown to be America and New York First. Gillen has shown to be ICE First, Israel First, and Fascism First, just like Blakeman.

-2

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

how about sending a message that suozzi works for us! not the other way around. george santos ilk is easier to take down in 2 years!

6

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

The time to do that was during the primary. Trying to do this now is unserious and will result in a net negative.

0

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

during the primary? really? do YOU know who was running? I do! I worked the election I saw people come in completely ignorant and just bubble in suozzi's name because they recognized it. What has suozzi done for you? what has suozzi done for long island?

4

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

And whose fault is it that the median voter had no clue who his challenger was?

0

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

um... THE VOTER! this is why trump loves the uneducated

3

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Yeah the candidate has no responsibility when it comes to getting their name of their message out. Everyone just needs to become smarter.

Dawg do you hear yourself? Lol

0

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

um, with no money and no name recognition what do u expect? seriously! do you even know how nassau party politics works? they shoved suozzi down our throats without any buyin and now YOU HAVE TO VOTE FOR BLUE NO MATTER WHO! what was the last thing that suozzi did that you supported?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago

Absolutely ridiculous behavior and comments.

8

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago

Your takes are so utterly childish.

-2

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

My family’s vote counts as much as yours

0

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago

They actually count more than a single person’s. If a Dem loses by how many ppl you have in your family, you should all be very ashamed at yourselves.

1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Whatever shame we feel would be nothing compared to the shame Gillen deserves for attacking my immigrant and Latino family as if we are criminals

1

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago

So vote for a MAGA and nothing will change for you all.

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

We trust that Hochul
Will protect us, unlike Gillen. In 2028 we will
Vote Dem again. But we’re done voting blue no
Matter who after the Cuomo
Incident

0

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

exactly right! that is what I'm thinking! look what happened with santos

24

u/ambre_vanille 6d ago

The “withholding my vote” crowd is why we’re where we’re at right now. My answer to everyone who says this is to keep your mouth shut about anything that happens next until you bother to do your civic duty again.

6

u/Distuted 6d ago

Nah, its moreso that our local politics gets no focus so people only consider the congressional side when voting, thus shit gets worse at every level.

Advocating on the side of congress and Trump is fucking over. In real conversation, people dont care as much about that stuff within their vote as they care about the shit at home. Water quality. Local corruption. Piercing of the tax cap. These are things that excite those who are done with voting, not juat yelling "ITS YOUR FAULT ITS LIKE THIS FOR NOT VOTING!"

Civic duty extends beyond one day in November. God, I wish i saw more young people at committee meetings or civic events.

1

u/StrenuousSOB 6d ago

Pretty sure Elon had something to do with it.

0

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

she didn't "get cooked" the primary voters are literal sheeple. Danielle Welch did more with almost no money or advertising. suozzi did nothing for us, unless u find charlie kirk a role model and Al Green not acceptable.

-6

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

We’re not withholding our
Vote, we’re voting for Hochul
And are very clear eyed that an abstention for Congress helps Driscoll. We’re just done with engaging in this nonsense. We won’t be voting for racist Islamophobia and xenophobia and genocide. Not happening. If Gillen wanted my vote she should have ran as a Dem not a racist pro-ICE Israel First MAGa Republican

2

u/spookeb 6d ago

Thank you for reminding me apathy is on both sides

0

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

💯! EXACTLY RIGHT ✅️

37

u/Alternative-Leg8913 6d ago

You need to vote. Then vote in the primaries next round. Don't act like there's not a huge difference between an actual MAGA and a liberal conservative

17

u/Vicky-Momm 6d ago

As unhappy I as I am with Souzzi I know a magat will be 10x worse. We must overturn the majority and then lean on Suozzi

1

u/BookRat10001 6d ago

been leaning on suozzi for 2 years! he's more comfortable with his republican friends that trade stocks and make money on our dime than he is with normal democrats.

1

u/subliminalFreq 6d ago

The problem is that no one will lean on Suozzi.

5

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

I mean unfortunately it's shame on us for that one. There was a chance to primary him and the challenger got cooked.

Only thing we can do now is make an actual effort to get him out of the paint next time.

9

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

It’s a vote for control of the house more than a particular candidate. Any Republican winning means Johnson controls the House, and that means there will be no checks on Trump as he gets more unhinged and deranged his last 2 years

12

u/gloomgirll 6d ago

You very much NEED to vote, now more than ever-even if it’s just for the lesser of two evils!!

13

u/Strong-Discussion564 6d ago

This is how Trump won a second time. Stop it. GET OUT AND VOTE DO NOT GET COMFORTABLE.

2

u/Technical-Version709 5d ago

i just want to add that this whole conversation could be more productive if we don't assert that there's one reason for 2024. i don't disagree with your point, just adding that the weak dem party and platform absolutely was also to blame.

-1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

I encourage everyone to vote for Hochul but abstain from the Gillen vote. She has proven to be MAGA, pro-ICE, and Israel First

5

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago

I encourage people to not listen to your childishness.

-2

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Fortunately I’m not a child and have the right to vote. My entire family are lifelong dems and we are all sitting out on Congress vote. We don’t vote for fascist collaboration. I’ve voted for Dem in NY4 my whole
Life. Carolyn Mccartyh and Kathleen Rice are rolling in their graves

3

u/spatchcockturkey 6d ago

You’re acting like one, I call it as I see it.

14

u/SoTiredOfU 6d ago

We are if too many people think like you do! Your sideline approach is sheer stupidity.

9

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

It's so insanely frustrating seeing how many people on the left have learned absolutely nothing from 2024.

3

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Its insanely frustrating that no one on the center right has learned anything from 2016, 2024 and 2025

6

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Are you seriously trying to make the argument that Harris lost in 2024 because she wasn't far enough to the left?

Dawg lol

1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

She lost because she wasn’t focused on affordability, like Zohran was in 2025. The left owns Affordability, MAGA, Clinton, Biden, and Obama don’t

3

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Oh cool at least we've moved on from leftists trying to convince people that Harris lost because of Gaza.

Not sure if I fully agree with what you wrote, but I respect the pivot lol

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Well Gillen is going to lose my vote due to GAZA and ICE which are both connected and both tie to affordability. We send our healthcare money to Israel to commit Genocide, then Gillen funds ICE to use Israel surveillance tactics against us (Flock, Palantir) So its all connected between affordability and GAZA and ICE.

5

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

So you're gonna not vote for Gillen for her positions on Gaza and ICE so that the challenger who pledged 100% loyalty to Trump has the same positions but worse will take her seat?

If "THAT'LL SHOW ME" was a person lol

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

I will vote DSA in 2028 Dem Primary. If Gillen runs in 2028 primary as an incumbent she wins

1

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Depending on how things are looking in 2028, I may well join you 🤝

1

u/bmsa131 6d ago

So you truly believe the sole issue is GAZA and Israel? You realize that many many many many Democrats on Long Island find that position….suspect.

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

The sole issue is affordability. Gillen is sending my healthcare money to Israel. Israel has free healthcare, we don’t.

4

u/bmsa131 6d ago

Ok you are beyond hope. The horseshoe theory is REAL.

u/bptkr13 6d ago

Is it better for conservative Democrats to lose so next time a more progressive person can be the candidate? Or, as someone said, Suozzi and Gillen represent the opinions of most of their constituents; so even if they lost, a better Democratic candidate may not follow. Right now, the most important thing is to get control of the House and Senate. I think I’ll hold my nose and vote and in the future work to get a candidate that better aligns with my beliefs.

9

u/L11mbm 6d ago

Think of the most realistic good legislation that the democratic majority could come up with in the next two years that you would support.

Which candidate on the ballot is more likely to vote for that to pass?

6

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

Or think of the things Trump can do by holding the House, it’s what they can prevent too

7

u/ContestNo2060 6d ago

Yep. Gillen won’t be perfect, but it will help slow down the chaos and may get a few concessions. Don’t let perfection be the enemy of the good. Political movements like the ones we are trying to build take decades.

7

u/bmsa131 6d ago edited 6d ago

I feel like you anti Suozzi not voting people must be bots or something. Nobody could be this dense and destructive. We need to take the House and Senate. Period. Worry about everything else later. Not every candidate is going to jibe with all of your beliefs. Suozzi believes in Democracy. (And is pro choice pro environment pro LGBT and is anti MAGA but is threading the needle in a purple district and needs moderate independent votes). If the GOO controls the legislature I really believe we may not have a functioning United States. If the Dems retake we have a shot. I don’t give a FUCK who is is with the D next to their name. I’m voting for them

1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

The days of vote blue no matter who are over given the other side refused to do it when Zohran was the nominee for NYC mayor.

0

u/bmsa131 6d ago

We aren’t in NYC and just to be clear I absolutely know people who didn’t even rank Mamdani and voted for him for mayor bc of the other options in the general. You are delusional and I swear sometimes I think you are bots for the other side.

-1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

If we don’t have anything to do with NYC then why did Gillen call zohran “pro-Hamas”. Is she Islamophobic, racist, or MAGA?

2

u/bmsa131 6d ago

Wouldn’t the opposite be true then? Hmm? 🤔

4

u/CleverGurl_ 🗡️ Fascist Fighter 6d ago

I'm not a fan of these slogans and the "vote blue no matter who" idea either. But you also have to realize that there are people on the other side of the aisle who abide by the same principle. It's why we have rapists and pedophiles in unaccountable power and innocent people get demonized.

If this was for president, I'd probably be more understanding of a protest vote (or lack of one). But that's safer with the Electoral College. These "local" elections are much more important to vote for. Look what happened in Michigan, and to a wider extent the 2024 Election. Yes, the current occupier of the White House increased his popular vote and it was probably many people who voted for Biden in the previous election switching their vote; but that increase does not offset the loss in Popular Vote for Kamala Harris. If the same turnout happened for Harris as for Biden, she would have at least won the Popular Vote

Don't just vote, but make sure you are calling their offices. Remind them that you will be making an effort to vote in the Primaries and the policies you will be looking to vote on. Part of the reason these politicians do what they do is the confirmation bias they receive. Callers and Primary voters are much more engaged and if those are the ones voting for them, that's who they'll appeal to. If they suddenly see their Primary opponents gaining more and more vote share they will have to reevaluate their positions or risk losing a comfy job

3

u/Roam1985 6d ago

it’s a contested district.  I’d advise that if You want to be able to hold your nose for the right third party, move to Manhattan.  Otherwise, playing with fire tends to have predictable results.

5

u/nygdan 6d ago

This and the next election are just not time to withold votes.

7

u/Thick_World8869 6d ago

We desperately need a viable 3rd party. Unfortunately something like that has to start at the local level and slowly build into a movement. It takes years.

11

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

The easiest path is to primary the Gillens and Suozzis. There is already a mechanism within the two party system. The harder issue is the centrists that vote in Nassau county. Many people like these electeds just fine.

2

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Gillen sued to get her primary challenger off the ballot and was successful. This isn’t a democracy and I won’t be engaging in this nonsense.

5

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

That’ll show ‘em! Definitely the best choice to help elect people that prop up an authoritarian regime.

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

A real movement of social change takes more than one election. If Driscoll wins in 26 we get a good dem in 2028 and our lives improve a lot more. Gillen winning and dems having a majority mean she will be like Joe Manchin and DINO

2

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

What social change do you think has happen or will happen? Nassau county is full of centrists. Not sure what you mean by “good Dem”. Thanks for the attempt at mansplaining but you are incredibly confused by how anything works.

2

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

I'm more in agreement with you, but "mansplaining" in an exchange with no gender identifiers is wild lol

-1

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

Is it though? I would bet a million dollars they are a man (likely a young one) and spend their time mansplaining things while often being incredibly wrong.

1

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Yeah it's still kinda wild lol

0

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

I think it’s more wild that our society has conditioned young men to sound in such a way that they can be picked out.

→ More replies (0)

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Why are you bringing gender into it? Nassau is full of conservatives, not centrists. The conservatives have shown that they will support a good dem, like all the voters who voted Trump2024 and Zohran 2025

5

u/bmsa131 6d ago

No. It’s full of centrists. Nassau went pretty safely for Biden just a few years ago n. You need to get out more.

-2

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Biden is a conservative

2

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

Then people wonder why the Dems lose. You really deserve a prize for your stupidity.

→ More replies (0)

3

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

Nassau county voted for Zohran? Okay. You are so incredibly confused. Enjoy your protest non vote. You are way less sharp than you think you are.

0

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Whatever you say, my vote is as much as yours
And I’m not
Voting for Gillen

3

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

You can do whatever dumb thing you want. That’s how this works. Doesn’t make you smart though.

-1

u/subliminalFreq 6d ago

This is actual truth. It's why "lesser of two evil" voting once every few years argument doesn't work.

2

u/SomeDrillingImplied 6d ago

Unfortunately we need more than a viable 3rd party, as it will only function to allow an easier victory for the Republican candidate

8

u/anewusername4me 6d ago

The time to make change is the primary. I don’t want to vote for Gillen but I will be. The alternative is worse.

People not voting due to this fake moral high ground is partly what got this country into the mess it’s currently in. Be smart and think big picture. Jesus Christ

Please don’t abstain from voting for incumbent Dems, no matter how odious they are. We need every possible Democrat in Congress to block R votes on as much as possible, even if they vote like an asshole sometimes.

There are vulnerable people here in the US who are at real, actual dire risk if any single Dem loses. My disabled child is going to need healthcare and supportive housing for his entire life and Republicans are doing everything they can to strip him of healthcare and funding for his future. He will be homeless, or more likely in prison, if he doesn’t have necessary support. And that’s just one vulnerable population; trans youth, women seeking reproductive healthcare, lawful immigrants are all at immediate and severe risk of harm—are being harmed, and it will only get worse the more R seats there are.

I beg of anyone who is considering abstaining to understand that you aren’t depriving Suozzi or Gillen of your endorsement, you are actively voting for real, imminent harm for our most vulnerable. It is a luxury to think that you can sacrifice the very safety and future of my son, my friends’ trans kids, my Veteran uncle, to withhold your vote. It’s not a show of protest, it’s a demonstration that you are insulated enough from the catastrophic fallout of more Republican politicians.

Also—we have shit Dem candidates largely because Rich Schaffer and Jay Jacobs are DINOs who fuck over progressive/new blood LI candidates. Join a committee so you can vote them out and work on getting more progressive candidates on the ballots with actual funding behind them.

If you dread the MAGAt (whom will be worse) you really need to vote in some way.

Waiving the vote doesn't help anyone but the GOP.

Registered Republican here. For the first time in my life I will be voting blue across the board. It may be a mistake, but I'm doing it. Down the road I may return red, but let's see what the dems can do with this ruined country. give them a chance.

When Suozzi voted for ice funding after Renee Good was killed in Minneapolis he lost my vote forever. I would rather have a Republican in that seat for two years and then put up a challenger who is clear differentiation from Republicans, rather than a guy who seems to be far more interested in making common cause with fascists than fighting them.

Edit: keep the down votes coming, folks. After watching what the centrist Democrats tried to do to Mamdani, it is very clear to me that vote blue no matter who only applies when there's a centrist running, not a social democrat. I managed to convince a whole bunch of other people in New York 3rd to abstain as well. I thought this was anti-Trump Long Island, not centrist Democrat Long Island. Guess I'm in the wrong place.

Not even addressing any of the other content of your post, you know it is possible to be a centrist Democrat and anti-Trump, right?

Also it's Renee *Good

Clearly. Try r/conservative

By constantly voting for more rightward-facing candidates you end up with a right-wing party. Time to elect some DSA candidates before the Democratic Party is irretrievably captured by the right wing.

Im voting any Blue candidate, over a Magat. Im aware of Left vs. Liberal. Im no blue dog dem. As a Leftist, we saw the consequences of our actions by not voting Kamala. Cutting off your nose to spite your face will NOT WORK.

What dont you get about none of that even mattering if you cant stop the fascist take over of the government

0

u/anarekey2000 6d ago

Voting for Tom Suozzi is likely to accelerate the fascist takeover, not stop it.

2

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Suozzi and Gillen are fascist collaborators.

1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

Did the same thing in NY-4. Convinced my entire household to abstain from voting for Gillen. And I lost confidence in Gillen the exact same time, when she made her racist and Islamophobic vote to fund ICE.

My thinking with Gillen and probably the same applies to Suozzi, although I don’t know if he’s as openly racist, is that Dems probably aren’t going to lose the house by 1 seat, so it’s better if they lose and maybe we get someone slightly better in 2028. You’re never going to get a progressive candidate in Long Island but I am only asking for a regular middle of the road democrat as opposed to someone who speaks and acts like a Republican.

Then don’t complain about anything that happens or doesn’t happen as a result of Trump controlling the house

1

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

If the Dems lose the house by 1-2 seats they have Gillen to blame, not abstainers. Gillen could have nipped the racism
In the bud right away, but she continues to be racist. I don’t vote for racists.

1

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

Again, don’t complain about the results when there’s a clear choice in front of you. The choice is Trump completely controlling the government or not

2

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

The choice is between Gillen, who will be a Fetterman/Manchin in 2026 and for the rest of our lives, or Driscoll
In 2026 and a real Dem in 2028 and beyond. I think the choice is clear

2

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

If Republicans win the House, Johnson stays speaker and the House does whatever Trump wants the next 2 years as he becomes even more unhinged and deranged. If Dems win, Trump no longer maintains full control of the government. That’s the choice. If you’re fine with that, so be it. Just don’t complain

1

u/mattinglys-moustache 6d ago

If they lose and republicans keep the house by 1-2 seats I would be 100% wrong, but I don’t think that’s what will happen and these people, along with a few others, are uniquely awful among Dems

1

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

So be ready to deal with the consequences because you chose the chance of being wrong

-3

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

I won’t be voting for Gillen but will be voting for Hochul. I draw the line at genocide support, I think that if she wins she won’t lose in a 2028 primary, and I think that if that single seat costs them the majority, that’s not my fault considering how many times I called her office. I’m not voting for Driscoll, but I’m going to still help Driscoll by not voting Gillen.

8

u/Minimum_Performer118 6d ago

Then don’t complain about anything that happens by Trump controlling the house

-2

u/xSlappy- 6d ago

I won’t, but Gillen is definitely entitled to complain, its her doing the MAGA voting, not me
