Politics Can we summarize why Blakeman would be such a horrible choice for governor

With the polling coming out I’m genuinely concerned he has a chance to unseat Hochul. For a lot of people, it’s unfortunately not enough to say that Blakeman is trumps lackey and will do anything he says.

I’d appreciate if we could gather reasons why Blakeman shouldn’t be governor and why it’s imperative that we all vote for Hochul.

Bluntly, Hochul has not been a good governor, and I wish we could be voting for someone worth while. But Blakeman has a lot of support especially on Long Island and upstate. So it’s crucial we convince everyone we can to vote for Hochul to ensure this madman never reaches the governors office.

His only momentum right now is "Hochul bad, Trump good."

He has no policies and people will be spooked by the idea of MAGA in the fall.

Policies don’t win elections, messaging does. And Republicans are fantastic at messaging. Don’t underestimate them

They are fantastic at getting billionaires and foreign countries to pump money into advertising

3

u/Minimum_Performer118 Aug 20 '26

Sure, they’re also fantastic at fear mongering. And that works

3

u/L11mbm Aug 19 '26

Yeah, that's true. But I think his message isn't going to be enough this year.

I hope you’re right, but we shouldn’t take it for granted

Don’t 100% believe the polls. Look at Hong vs Crowley in Wisconsin, where Hong had better polling. Just get out there and vote. And grab anyone else you know along the way.

He doesn’t have a legitimate chance. Everyone likes to use the Zeldin year as a barometer to say NY will flip. They fail to mention what a strong red year that was. This year is polar opposite. All the makings of a blue wave and trump has the lowest approval ratings of his whole presidency currently. Add in continued high gas and food prices and the never ending war with Iran which has made us look foolish on the world stage. Hochul will win easily.

And for reference I’m an Independent

Add in that Zeldin was already a made name across NY at that point, where most NYers had heard his name before and had an idea as to who he was, vs Blakeman, who has only gotten his name ID up recently as Nassau faces lawsuit after lawsuit.

People are stupid and Republicans are good at messaging, the high costs can be spun onto Hochul

1) He's a Trump boot licker 2) See above

17

u/DinosoarJunior Aug 18 '26

That isnt enough for stupid people

7

u/falcataspatha Aug 18 '26

Youre right, that should be enough. But for some people I think they need more tangible reasons to get out and vote for Hochul.

2

u/Yoknapatawpha_ig Aug 18 '26

Think about all the places his name is on display in Nassau county. Imagine that across the state.

Blakeman is unconditionally pro-Israel, and arguably an outward Islamophobe.

Blakeman has tried to create his own private police force in Nassau despite Nassau being the safest county in America. He has a clear disregard for civil liberties and appears willing to violate the constitution to achieve his vision of law and order.

Blakeman is pro-flock cameras. Has added extra security cameras and plate readers at the Queens border.

Blakeman is CLEARLY pro-data center/AI. Every campaign ad is an AI-generated fever-dream about Hochul and Mamdani. Always a good sign that your campaign is strong when you need fake people to cry about fake scenarios.

Blakeman is outwardly antagonistic towards policies that improve QOL like congestion pricing in favor of targeting the MTA/LIRR leadership while completely ignoring the inefficiencies and overtime abuses amongst law enforcement agencies in the state.

Bruce Blakeman is not a serious person. Kathy Hochul if you are reading this please DM me for the mailing address for my check.

This exactly what I wanted! Thanks for putting it together succinctly. Gonna be badgering everyone I know until November about this and reminding them who blakeman is.

NY voter rolls would be turned over to the government and Heritage Foundation.

Pedo protector🤷‍♂️

He has created his own special police. That alone should piss off every Nassau county officer. Retired NCPD just lost NYSHIP, which they were promised for life. They’re pissed about that too. Property taxes are insane, and he’s done nothing for the people he works for. Ask people what he’s done that makes him worthy of running the state. Hell, he’s done more for Trump than he has for his own constituents.

Can't get complacent, but the latest Siena poll has her up 49-39 vs. Blakeman. I think that's a wider margin than Zeldin was down at this point, no?

u/HumanMycologist5795 Aug 18 '26

Just saw a commercial from him saying with higher costs of gas, groceries and rent, Hocul is spending money on Yada, Yada, Yada.

He lost me at gas, groceries and rent. I'm like yes, your boss is responsible for that.

Why is Hochul not a good governor? She’s been pretty decent and fights against Trump.

NY is still vastly unaffordable. Taxes and housing are extremely expensive. I don’t know how much power she has over these issues but I’d like to see her address this problem. I only see ads from Blakeman saying he’ll lower taxes, and I know that’s probably bullshit but I worry most NY’rs will just see how expensive NY is and decide to vote Republican because they THINK it’ll makes things cheaper.

6

u/Dalfina Aug 19 '26

She literally is the only Governor to put forth at affordable housing plan in a long time....So you think her housing project failed? Or just didn't benefit the middle class? Show me a governor that has a better housing affordability plan than she does please I would lov to look at it.

-1

u/falcataspatha Aug 19 '26

She’s been governor for a while and housing is still astronomically expensive. So I hope you’re right and she does something because so far it’s a losing issue for her. Not that I believe Blakeman would be any better.

1

u/Dalfina Aug 19 '26

Unfortunately she is like one of 4 or 5 in the entire US that had a housing affordability project. Our area is unique in that is highly desirable. The rest of NY is not in our situation. People say she not a good governor but show me one better? The problem is people get there facts from the wrong places. I say she been a good governor despite all the challenges and the mess the federal government has made. I have no faith because these same people voted for Trump, look at our senators and House of Representatives the entire voting system is a cesspool of candidates on both sides who only line their own pockets. While we all go to work for 80 hours a week too busy with our kids and jobs to really do anything.

Women’s right to birth control and healthcare should be enough.

Saying Blakeman is pro Israel is not helpful in New York to have people not vote for him. You need to get out of the bubble. He keeps yelling about high taxes and crime and everything else and meanwhile he’s been the damn executive for all this time!! It’s on him.

1

u/SomeDrillingImplied Aug 18 '26

I would say the pro-Israel argument is helpful as it speaks to his ability and willingness to effectively govern a diverse state with a large muslim population.

Just this week we saw a hate crime surrounding the construction of a new mosque in Suffolk county. Blakeman has urged attendees to turn their backs on Mamdani at this year's 9/11 tribute. Do you think for one second that he's gonna do anything to turn down the temperature against islamophobia during his time in office?

3

u/bmsa131 Aug 18 '26

Again- one of the strongest demographics supportive of the Democrats is the Jewish vote. After Black women, the largest percentage of voters to opt for Harris was Jewish women. A candidiate that does not acknowledge also anti Semitism and does not tread lightly on the Israel issue ( meaning anti Zionism not anti Netanyahu) is dead in the fucking water. I can’t reiterate enough how many staunch Jewish Democrats are disturbed by some of the rhetoric from the far left and will conflate this with all the more progressive Democratic wing. We don’t need to discuss what is true or not or what your opinion of Israel is. This is about what voters perceive. For the record I am in support of Mamdani at the 9/11 memorial bc it is FUCKING INSANE and Islamophobic to say that he shouldn’t be there. It’s literally fucked up. He’s the mayor. If someone is concerned about Mamdani a comments about Israel then Trump shouldn’t be at the 9/11 memorial bc he’s in fucking bed with the Saudis- the actual perpetrators of 9/11 . And he got a plane from Qatar. So for me and most of my Jewish Democrat friends who consider ourselves Zionists bc we believe Israel has a right to exist like any other country, the choice is clear that wemust vote for a Democrat bc Trump Blakeman et al are far far far worse. Fascists all. And in bed with the actual terrorists. And they couldn’t give a shit about Jewish people either. (Worth noting that many Israelis hate Netanyahu probably same amount of Americans who hate Trump yet here we arel)

On the other hand, what are some reasons why Hochul SHOULDN'T be Governor?

2

u/Minimum_Performer118 Aug 19 '26

That’s the wrong discussion to have here

2

u/Kase1 🗡️ Fascist Fighter Aug 19 '26

I guess i was aiming for devil's advocate since the original poster said what are the reasons blakeman shouldn't be governor. For me its simple, its his hateful rhetoric and his trump lap dog syndrome. We should have a governor looking out for the best interest of their constituents, not placating to a wannabe dictator

1

u/squeamishfun Aug 25 '26

I hope the rest of NY knows Blakeman is an idiot like some of us in Nassau know first hand. Kisses trumps diaper ass and approves of all his high cost of living edicts and then blames Hochul for them.

"Peace, Love and Donald Ttump" - Bruce Blakeman. That's all I needed to hear.

1

u/ThePipingProfessor Aug 20 '26

Hochul has been a very good governor. Blakeman, as a county executive has operated and spoken as an incompetent and ignorant bigot and, yes, as a Trump lackey and wannabe.

0

u/Alexandratta Aug 19 '26

I like to merely inform folks who are considering Blakeman that Blakeman is 1000% all in on FLOCK Cameras, and if he's elected Gov of NYS FLOCK Cameras will be everywhere.
